Continuing with the birthday theme in the TMNT setting, here is another old work of mine featuring April bringing a present for the boys.

I'd say the inking on this one is a bit sloppy (I was experimenting with new techniques again), but overall I think it turned out pretty well.

The only HUGE problem this drawing has (and something I only noticed now) is that I misspelled "Nihon" and wrote "日木" instead of "日本". Mind you, this was a few years after I had spent three and a half years living in Japan and studying the language.

This is not entirely my fault, since the way Japanese is taught to foreigners in Japan is extremely inefficient when it comes to learning kanji, but it still annoys me every time I look at it. Fucking "Nihon"—it's practically the first word you learn when you start studying Japanese. Shameful. T_T

On the bright side, I was able to procure the pencil scan for this one, so we have at least some WIP material this time ^_^.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT ^_^

April bringing a present for the boys is already a fun idea, "birthday" is really a great souce of inspiration for you! What I really like is how much personality you managed to put into the whole composition (as often). It’s not just April bringing a present, every corner of the image feels alive: Splinter with the cake, the boys reacting in different ways, the little background details, the warm sewer lighting, Spiderman hidding, the pizza, the posters (just the 3 eyes rat is missing)… It feels like a full little story frozen in one birthday moment. And honestly, even if you call the inking a bit "sloppy", I think it gives the drawing a lot of charm. It has that loose, energetic old-school cartoon feel that makes the scene more fun and expressive. The pencil scan surviving this time is a nice bonus. These old WIP materials really make the shop updates feel like small archaeological discoveries from the Akabur vault. ^_^ Thanks for sharing it!
