447 - EMPTY POST, BUT... (Patreon)
Content
HELLO, and welcome to another Monday post! First of all, thank you for checking in. I know my posts have been somewhat low on content lately, so I really appreciate you showing up despite that. In this post, I’ll be talking about some nonsense that is interesting mostly to nobody but me. But I decided to do that instead of making another literally empty post. (I hate making posts like that.) Closer to the end, I’ll say a few words about the current state of the game, so if you’re only interested in that, feel free to just scroll down and skip my usual ramblings. Honestly, I won’t hold it against you. (Just don’t forget to leave a like and we’re square! XD)
SHOP. First things first, this week’s new gallery item is another Witch Trainer CG. Pretty much the same deal as with the two previous ones: the PSD file and the PNGs ripped from the game. Moving on.
THE GAMES. About three weeks ago, I was perfectly happy playing Trio of Towns, mixed with occasional short sessions of FE: Awakening. Then my buddy Smersh got really obsessed with Rogue Trader and wouldn’t shut up about it. From what he was telling me, it sounded like quite a game. Unfortunately, I’m one of the few men on the planet who isn’t into Warhammer. But the gameplay (about 70% of which was reading) really piqued my interest.
PATHFINDER. After looking into it, I found out that there was another game called Pathfinder: Kingmaker, made by the same studio. This one was set in a (more or less) traditional fantasy setting, and it also had not only romanceable companions but also (apparently) some sort of kingdom management gameplay. After a couple of days of back and forth, I decided to buy it on Steam. And 10 hours later, I uninstalled it.
WHY THOUGH? Out of respect for the people who actually like this game, I will keep this rant short. The backbone of this game is the writing, and it’s not good. Everything is presented in a very blunt manner, without any nuance. The next problem is the characters: everyone feels like a caricature. As for the romanceable girls, they all seem to share the same uber-aggressive personality. Valerie cut her long hair because she is (apparently) unbelievably beautiful, and those pesky men simply wouldn’t leave her alone. Octavia has a literal cuck boyfriend who has saved her life multiple times, but she’s a “free woman” and doesn’t owe anything to anyone, and so on. Also, the art is not good. Look at the Sexy Nymph's face—she is also apparently heavenly beautiful. What about Kanerah? Flirtatious girl with a tail from a very warm region. Look at her outfit. OK, I think you get the idea. I wasted 20 bucks. But at least I know for a fact now that these types of games are not for me. But, one good thing did come out of all of this...
I WANT MY CASTLE! After Pathfinder: Kingmaker failed to deliver, I was left with a heavy feeling of dissatisfaction because I was really looking forward to roleplaying as a ruler and having my own castle. I began looking for a game that could give me that experience. Suikoden V was suggested multiple times, so I decided to give it a try, and I’m so happy I did. For the first three hours, I was literally unable to put down the controller. This is rare for me—I usually play in short sessions. Everything about this game was right up my alley: the story, the presentation, the character design the world...
SO GOOD. I came because I was promised my own castle, but stayed because I simply had no other choice. The story is insanely good: you play as a prince, and you’re in the middle of the kind of fantasy politics that I love so much (when it’s written well). There is so much going on in this game: regular battles, one-on-one duels, naval battles, army battles, traveling, making peace with people, getting betrayed, taking revenge... Man, the first 20 hours of the story were an insane ride. And only then, finally, I got my own castle. Well, anyway, as you can see, I am completely in love with this game, so naturally my opinion is extremely biased. #^_^#
THE WORK. I continue to do that thing where I focus fully on writing and coding and completely ignore the visual part of the game for now. The good thing about this approach is that I’m making a lot of progress. The bad thing is that, for now, I literally have nothing to show off. Well, it is what it is. Eventually, the moment will come when I’ll be working solely on the art assets, and then we’re gonna have some fun Monday posts. And until then, thank you for your patience, bros. I’ll see you all next Monday. Laterz.-Aka-
