297 - Embrace Modernity Or Perish. (Patreon)

This is not how I planned to start the Monday Post today, but reality doesn't give a damn about what I want. I logged into my Patreon account and was greeted with a completely new interface. You know that "wonderful" feeling when you return home and notice that somebody threw away all your old fortune replacing it with the new one. Well, that's the feeling I usually get after "updates" like that. 

Several years ago they already did something similar, replacing old interface created by actual web designers who had at least some skills with new minimalistic style. I was complaining then the same way. Little did I know that it was possible to take the things even further. All the borders and buttons are gone now. Writing this post I have to stare at a blank page, no buttons no work area borders. There is no way to create scheduled posts anymore, or if there is I don't see any buttons to make it happen. Also I can't save my text as a draft and return to it later. Everything has been simplified to an extreme. Reminds me of modern architecture, or modern anything really. Movies, games, website interfaces -- everything makes me feel like I am not a part of the target audience anymore. (Whatever, I will always have anime and old games).

As for the new logo. All I can say, it fits this new design ideology perfectly. Other than that I don't want to say anything else. I feel like this is such a low hanging fruit, it would be like making fun of a child with a down syndrome. All I am going to say is we need to enjoy good things while they still last.

To other news. Have nothing to report on personal entertainment front. Didn't watch any movies, haven't started (or beat) any games. But I did receive a care-package from our local hero Mr.Lazare who sent me a crazy amount of stickers free of charge. What am I going to do with them I have no idea. I could try and send out a few as a reward for different subscription tiers, but that would require time an effort and ultimately postpone the release of QT even more. In any case I will be sharing an unboxing video in the EXTRA!! post.

The work. This week was spent on the Harvest Competition event. It will be taking place once a year. It will function like a date event that will allow you to get extra bonding points with the girl of your choosing, and at the same time will play out a bit differently depending on the amount of the gardening experience you have at that point. I will go into some more details in the EXTRA!! post.The plan for this week is to finish up the Harvest Competition event and move on to the Muscle Men Festival. It will function pretty much the same only the game will be taking into account your overall physical shape instead of the gardening experience.  And it will also play out slightly differently depending on who you will decide to invite to accompany you.That is all I have to say for now. Reminds me of the video Jontron made about corporate redesigns with his suggestions of silly examples of where it would end up at the the future. They somehow made it worse than his joke suggestions and that's not even an exaggeration.

Yes, my main problem with these changes is that they never seem to be for the better, but let be positive, the planning go well so thanks for teh update, keep the good job

I'm just as baffled as you are, man. The UI is a mess. And the brand isn't even recognizable anymore, iorange is gone .. t's just... weird. Also, buy a new chair. Lumbar support, great quality... best one you can find. Your back needs you to think about her!

By constantly striving for minimalism and simplicity, we end up with designs that all look the same, with no sense of identity. It could be any other site just by changing the logo. If I'm trying to be positive, I'd say that it's so insipid that it allows the elements published by the creators to stand out better... but that's without mentioning all the functions that have disappeared.

Yeah, not struck on the sudden new change either. I didn't ask for it, I didn't want it, and I don't enjoy it. Unfortunately for the moment we're stuck with it. The same thing happened with Deviantart, they made it more mobile phone friendly and demolished the functionality of it. Sigh. Modern web designers are clowns that just want to cut down on features so they have less work.

Ugh, the new look feels so gross. At least as a viewer I don't have to deal with the putting things into it side, but now that all the upvote hearts are dark automatically I can't see where my replies are anymore! Wishing you the best Leader of the bro's, and good look with the new web environs.

Yeah. To me it feels like they have a team of people who desperately trying to keep their job is necessary, so the constantly try to fix something that is not broken.

Yes, I should have mention that too: it is impossible to recognize the brand now. I did one year of corporate design in my youth and when it comes to designing a company logo this was one of the first things they teach you: it should be easily recognizable. But of course all the common sense has been lost nowadays. As for the chair, thank you for the advise. You are 100% correct of course T_T

Yeah. That would be my #1 requirement for any such improvements: does it actually improve anything or make it harder to do things.

Yeah. But it's not like Patreon is the only site that does it. Year over year this trend affects everything. Everything is simplistic and ugly, without any nuance or decoration. Every time I se cooperate art I get freaking depressed.

To be honest I would be surprised if it was the other way around. This is the trend these days: everything get's uglier and less convenient to use. -_-

Thanks. Yeah, at least my games are not improving in any way XD I still sit on an ancient version of the Ren'Py engine because it does what I need it to do just fine. If one day incompatibility issues arise I will switch to a newer version, but until then I will fight the progress as hard as I can :)

Yes. And I joined Patreon in the very beginning and I still remember the original design, with those little flags they used to attach to the supporter profiles. In the beginning it was a startup, but as soon as they started making good money and hired an army of employees they became just another soulless corporation completely disconected from their customers -_- P.S. Yeah, I am doing thing a bit odd here, I know. One of the reasons for that is that Patreon scolded me in the past for sharing direct links to NSFW material. And sharing links with patrons-only would limit access to many people. Anyway, what you are looking for is here: https://akabur.itch.io
