Good tidings Cerulean Patrons!

As requested, here’s the procreate timelapse of me illustrating Madoc for Holly Blacks Enemies & Lovers! As a bonus, the intro also features me feverishly thumbnailing.

Fun facts: Holly chose this specific thumbnail because she felt— in contrast with the other more aggressive/villainous poses— it made Madocs role feel most ambiguous. (Is he good or evil?)

Madocs Illustration was the very first I completed out of the total 53! It was pretty nerve wracking, as I knew I would need to keep the rest of cards stylistically consistent to whatever I decided here. No pressure. 😀

I made a few notes about my vision for the cards to help keep them cohesive:

Simple shading, low contrast, no intense lighting schemes, warm toned (ended up deviating from this) keep colors mostly muted with small saturated pops on important details.

Overall, I think I did a pretty good job making the cards feel harmonious despite drawing the first and last card about 10 months apart. 🥵
