The attached images are something I said in the Discord server and some responses to it.  Since few of you use Discord most of you will not have seen the interaction.  I felt like it was important and heartfelt enough to post it here for those of you who still remain.

This month I've taken the largest hit so far concerning pledges.  Everyone is suffering in this economy, and it's worldwide.  I very much appreciate those of you who have gone above and beyond to keep my lights on.  I will lose my insurance at the end of the month if I can't find a new option.  Cost is only one factor in that situation, another, arguably larger, factor is government maleficence.  I'll find a way to get by like I always do, or I won't.  Either way, I've been able to keep going way longer doing this than I ever deserved to.  So whatever happens I thank you for allowing me to live mostly how I wanted for such a long time.

I'm not quitting, or giving up, or anything like that.  I'll keep doing this until they pitch whatever they find left of me into a hole.  It's just going to get rough from here on out until something changes for the better.  In my opinion things are going to get way worse before that happens though.  It always seems like whenever I get a chance to try and turn my life in a good direction something comes along and knocks me back down.  So I guess this is the new thing fulfilling that role.  My guess is that most of you are right here with me, with our asses knocked into the dirt yet again.

So, I'll keep getting up, brushing it off, and bracing for the next hit.  The only way life is gonna put me down is to do it for good and I'm more than ready for that if it tries.  I hope my simple story helps you to do the same, day after day, month after month, year after year.  Being useful is something that's important to me and this has always felt like the thing I was able to do the most good doing.

God willing, we'll all get through the next few turbulent years together.  I hope we do.

Hang in there and thanks for working on the comic all these years its been a source of joy in my life for a while now. Heres hoping things improve soon

Bastiandantilus

Other patrons have been saying Patreon charges are suddenly being refused by their banks. I hope you get a big uptick in pledges once that is all fixed.

hey man your comic is one of those things that helped me through one of the roughest parts of my life. showing it to my wife and talking about it even though she doesn't (and at the time just couldn't, cuz of pain,) read it. showing her that people can, well. be *suffering* and still make *meaningful work and art.* was. really important a few years back. i'm glad you're still around. no surrender and no defeat, just getting back up every time the world knocks you back down, cuz yknow what *fuck* that shit. if the world wants us dead it'll have to kill us itself.

I'm not the most vocal person when it comes to the internet. But I'm here to say I'll support you through and through.

I've been enjoying your comic for many years, and I've been wishing for your health and happiness for as long as I've known they weren't as good as you'd like. I'm pulling for you and I wish you the best.

I have been almost entirely silent in the years I've followed your work. But Between Failures has seen me through escaping abuse, burnout, PTSD recovery, the Gender Question, and so much more. And through a lot of that knowing that you were fighting, reading up on your struggles, gave me a lot of hope. I never much commented because I'm a single voice in many, but you, not just your work but you, have accompanied me growing as a person from Reggie to Jo... Thank you. I intimately know how harsh it can be to fight against the pull of giving up, and how much just tomorrow can weigh. But for what it's worth, you're doing great. Honestly I'd pledge more if I could afford it. If ever I can I will. Currently I'm on a... Fixed income, but I'm trying to give at least a tiny bit.

I'm here; I enjoy your work. I should, I think, find your discord. :)

Jeremy

I'm here, wishing you well, however long it takes to find it.

I’m on a different continent so I’ll never be on Discord, but I’m glad there were people showing you support. I’m glad you’re around, I would be even if I didn’t get anything out of it, but I do, and I have through many years, and I hope to continue for many more to come.

I'm here on the Patreon site looking around because I saw that Patreon's code crapped out this month. (spurious card errors, patrons with their records wiped) I didn't get my usual first of month receipts, and I honestly can't tell from anywhere on my end if any creators got their money. I am still listed as a supporter, but if the code is glitching this badly, it might not remove me for its own failure to chrge me.

Take care of yourself first. I'm a patron for a few reasons, especially the re-readability of BF.

Kryten

I'm in your discord, but due to life getting in the way I haven't been around in quite some time. I understand how hard it's been for you though, and I'll keep on supporting you for as long as I'm able

Karl Gallagher

I'm glad to be supporting you. I hope things improve.

Was this over Patreon moving a ton of their crap to Ireland?

Aeyrgran

After Patreon moved shit over to Ireland my CC threw a fraud alert on the monthly charge and none of my pledges went through. While, of course, I was on vacation with limited signal to actually fix stuff. Got your pledge and a few others to go through again now, but for some other creators it just loads a blank page and for some it throws an "uh-oh, something went wrong!" error which is just as unhelpful... but the whole situation could help to explain the income loss this month, especially if people are running into errors trying to renew for you.

Almost everyone on Patreon that I follow have put out a post about losing followers with patrons posting comments about payment errors. I'm so frustrated that Patreon hasn't sent a mass alert out about it; I have only seen "word of mouth" posts. So many creators got blindsided in August by this.
