You are in for a treat today. We are back with the FULL reaction to Japanese Songs! We are embarking on a new journey of song reviews and are feeling pumped for this. And you get it a couple days earlier than YouTube!

Some real bangers in this mix of songs. Too hard to name our favorites here. We also need to sharpen up on our Japanese. 😆

lol yeah that’s not yoongi’s voice in the beginning of The Stars. unfortunately a lot of these lyric video YouTube channels don’t do enough research and have a lottttt of mistakes in the lyrics and translations. the person in the beginning is km-markit, a japanese singer who produced the song!

Not sure if you guys have already reacted to it as I have the memory of a goldfish sometimes but if you haven't I highly reccomend reacting to the Let Go live performance, it's amazing, both the vocals and the dance are beautiful, definitely one worth watching for anyone who hasn't.

I heard "Let Go" is the song they wrote when they were about to disband. They were having a hard time, and it wasn't easy. So they were ready to let go, but their love for ARMY remained strong, so they didn't disband. If Jin hadn't said anything, we would never have known. So I'm glad we know the story.

Now you have to watch the live performance of Let Go to see how good the vocal line sing, especially when Jin belts out near the end of the song. The choreo is also very good in a contemporary seductive way so you need to watch your new favorite BTS Japanese song performed live. There's also a short clip of BTS singing Don't Leave Me in acapella during their in between song speech break in concert that you can find on youtube. I have heard the reason Don't Leave Me was never performed live because it is a difficult song to sing live with many harmonic parts and high notes required to sing with intensity.

Sorry to jump in on your comment, but I believe this is just a fan theory that spread. My main reason being - "Let Go" is a beautifully written song and I can see how the lyrics fit with what was going on at that period of time but it wasn't written by any of the members. Maybe it's just my opinion but I would think that this in particular, is a story only Bangtan can tell and therefore they would have a hand in writing the lyrics (as with Outro: Tear) 💜

Not sure if this was in your notes, but Ano Bashode is also known as Like/I like it pt 2 and is a continuation of the song Like from 2 Cool 4 Skool, hence the snippet at the start 😉 The start of Hobi's verse is actually the same in both songs (apart from the language difference)

You'll probably notice this when you see the songs on spotify, but the musical progression of sound/genres and lyrics makes sense when you know which songs were part of which album! They usually release a japanese album during each of their "eras" with, like you said, japanese versions and then 3 original japenese songs. Here's the breakdown of japanese albums: Wake Up (2014) - at the end of the Dark & Wild era: - The Stars - Line Pt 2 (a sort of continuation of "Like" which is the song you hear at the beginning) - Wake Up Youth (2016) - at the end of the The Most Beautiful Moment In Life era: - Good Day - Wishing On A Star - For You Face Yourself (2018) - during the Love Yourself era: - Don't Leave Me - Crystal Snow - Let Go Map of the Soul: 7 - The Journey (2020) - at the end of the Map of the Soul era: - Stay Gold - Lights - Your Eyes Tell And then there's "Film Out" which was in 2021 on their japanese compilation album.

I would like to share funny story about "Don't leave me" this song came out back in 2018 . i wasn't aware about BTS's existence back then but this song was used as outro for so many videos, whatsapp edits here in India . especially that Jimin's part , i used to love that i had it as my callertune for months. I didn't know who was the artist at all till years later in 2020 when i was just discovering BTS discography that i got to know it was their song .

As baby army back in 2019, thats when I became low key obsessed with finding that song 😆💜 Also Let Go - I remember listening to that for the 1st time without the lyrics and instantly feeling so sad and had to relisten to it 3 times... Agreed, Frayed, I think that was just a fan theory that got popular after the speech at MAMA 2018 where Jin mentioned that they had considered disbanding. People were looking back over the year for hints/signs and decided that Let Go must have been one, despite the fact that the members didn't write it. But, much like what later happened with Winter Bear, the fan theory started to be accepted as "fact." I actually think Suga's later reveal about Outro: Tear came as such a shock in part because so many fans had fixated on Let Go, lol.

Summer, I'm sure you're going to fall in love with their Japanese songs because I think they are easier for a non native speaker to copy the lyrics. I'm not sure if it's the language itself or because, when you sing in a different language, your vowel sounds are more pure, but I find the Japanese ballads so easy to sing along with. A lot of times, when we sing in our native tongue, we are less careful with pronunciation so that makes it harder for others to reproduce. Anyway, it's obvious you love to sing along, so Let Go will probably end up being one of your favorite BTS songs.

Lately, it seems like the admin hasn't been providing a clear explanation of the specific meaning of the songs (like in Eight before and Let go now ). Abigail: loved what you said near the beginning because it's actually a known thing in linguistics that Japanese is one of the -- if not the #1 -- languages with the least "information density." In other words, it takes a lot of syllables to convey very little meaning, as you said. And you guys might be interested to read about the similar phonologies of Japanese and Spanish (if you google there's lots of info out there). It may explain why the language appeals to you. Sorry if this was brought up already. I tried reading all the other comments but they stop loading for me after a certain number.

Thank you for this reaction, I think I heard "The Stars" for the first time. All their voices deepened with time, but V's deepening is the most distinct. Let Go is a positive song, but still makes me sad. I also like Good Day, heard it after a long time, and made my mood better. My favourite Japanese ones are still Stay Gold, Crystal Snow, Your Eyes Tell. And Otsukare :D

So, Let Go has been a favorite for many people (and mine too, especially the live) but I also want to point out the beauty and the sadness of the choreo. I say sadness because it always pained me so much by the end of Let Go's live that while all members walked in one direction, JK was the one (alone) who walked the exact opposite way while lingering/looking at their direction before embarking on his own journey and walking away as well.

Until ‘Don’t leave me’ and ‘Let go’ even though I enjoyed the songs I was sad realising how little Jin got to sing in the early days. Sometimes only one line. Then ‘Don’t leave me’ and ‘Let go’ and ‘Crystal snow’ came out and he shone. He really is marvellous in the live versions. I started listening to their songs in late 2017 and at that stage in their songs Jin got few lines. V’s ‘Serendipity’ got me more interested but Jin’s ‘Awake’ got me hooked.and I stayed and became Army. The most underrated singer in BTS and often mentioned so little. His performance one day post discharge was amazing but you did not review it which is a shame. Also has torch walk in Paris for the Olympics was brilliant to watch. I am enjoying his variety show ‘Run Jin’ and his other variety show ‘Half Star Hotel on Lost Island. He is amazing and has not stopped putting out content for Army since his discharge. I know you have so much to review but it was an amazing event to be discharged and it’s a shame that in the last two months since he has returned we have only seen the one video of his VLive post discharge. I must admit I was disappointed. I look forward to his album. ‘Let go’ live is one of my favourite performances with great vocals and a lovely dance. 💜💜💜💜

Don’t Leave Me was the title track made for a Japanese drama series by the same name. It’s why the song is explosive and has a lot of punch. And the stage mix of Let Go is just too good to miss. It was for around the time of their potential disbandment.

My absolute favorite is Your Eyes Tell. There's a run that goes from JK to V to Jin to Jimin that is just breathtaking especially in one of the lives they did. Lights is also great, and I really like Let Go as well. Those are probably my top three although I like others as well.

Let Go is my favorite and the first song I knew by heart. Just FYI, Hobi does the background vocals for 80% of this song. The harmonies on the verses and bridges are actually Hobi and not Jungkook. He also sings the lower octave in the chorus.
