Episode 2 here we comeeee

KimSeok2ParkMinjeon⁷99

The way i want a JinYoongi subunit 🙌😭it would be so epic... The part Yoongi said to Tae " I want to go to the restroom,Go to the restrooom for me" always makes me laugh so much 🤣🤣🤣Coolio had serious beef with V🙌😭🤣

ghint

YYAAAAAY

ghint

Day 4 of asking you guys to watch the Tannies on Knowing Bros! It’s hilarious and chaotic, you’re gonna love it

ghint

This ep is just... OMG

Dess🌺

Yall wanna say something without saying it and it’s interesting. That’s all I have to say.🤔 Maybe I’m just being sensitive but the remarks summer are making I’m like…..but I do understand it is 100% cringe Edit: just something I’m feeling, nothing too serious before yall start replying. 🫰🏽

Jodi

Love there bond together

charmaine

I haven’t watched this since I became a fan in 2018, I forgot about jin and yoongi doing “fight the power” as their performance. they really were cringe back then omg 😭

t

oh my gosh I’ve never watched this before and im tearing up at the part where coolio says tae is a disadvantage to namjoon☹️☹️☹️☹️

Mishi

I'm crying why did they make them 2 do THAT song 😭

Mishi

The Show is honestly so 2010s vibe, "old school" and the cringe 😭 is definitely there lmao, but it's fun and I hope they can look past the awkward moments and embrace how it shaped bts today. Or at least that's what i try to do, cause I don't blame them..it's a hard watch 💀😂

Taz

You missed the part at 32:23 when RM said "what about for him?" pointing to V to lower the price just because V is handsome. Then the seller inmediately agreed to sell it from 8.99$ to 5$.

Dess🌺

Yes for sure

JCotiWhite

I have not watched this entire show because of the cringe factor. So I am hanging in now. Lol.

Steph

Just fyi, while filming this show they were also recording their Dark and Wild album in LA. They were working like crazy

Arshdeep kaur

I don't like this show, I mean I know it was important for them in order to be where they are right now, but those remarks on V had me crying. And V being such a good sport just shows how pure and good his heart is. And Coolio did warmed up to him in the end so it was not that he particularly did not like Tae and Even in 2017 he posted that 'TURN UP" clip of Tae and wishing them luck.

Jodi

Loved their relationship with Nate and Tony. Also Tony was the one who came up with chim chim

OT7Bangtan

V once said before, that he'd tell his younger self to straighten up. May not have been about this experience, but he at least admitted that he needed to. He was cutting up. Yall get upset at Coolio for saying what he said about V, but yall fail to realize that even RM himself didn't see what the label saw in V years ago. Whether V was taking things serious, it didn't always show. He was goofing around. The reason why Coolio got upset with him was because V approached Coolio as if he knew him. Speaking in slang to Coolio without even fully knowing this culture, upset him. When Coolio said Hip Hop saved his life, he isn't exaggerating. He had a rough upbringing and music actually was his safe haven. So seeing people not fully understand it and take it lightly, rubbed him the wrong way. There are so many people in this fandom that praise the rapline but they themselves don't even listen to rap music. All this talk about cringe is also justifiable when you talk about some of the members trying to portray a lifestyle they know nothing about. Them being given those songs was a test. Again, you are presenting yourself as a Hip Hop group, whuch for many was cringe because they lacked the knowledge, outside of the rapline. A lot of the cringe come from people not understanding this culture. This is so rated G compared to the life of Western rappers. This show helped them realize that TRYING to be something you are not, isn't Hip Hop.

Steph

Bruh

Sara

yep, chim chim comes from tonyy... thank you for the reaction! And Dante is not seen for the rest, cuz he was not allowed to hit anyone.

OT7Bangtan

I try so hard to not be insensitive, but Lord it's clear who doesn't listen to rap music. They have had worse things happen to them and people really acting like they're being mistreated.

Lomaa

I REALLY FELL BAD FOR TAE , HE WAS SO RUDE WITH HIM🥲

OT7Bangtan

I wanna know if we are thinking the same thing.

Michelle

feel like this was where tae latched on to the idea of presentation/decorating/aesthetics when it comes to his cooking philosophy lol. too bad he kept getting picked on by coolio lol, our poor taetae. least he seemed overall unfazed by it, so innocent lol

Dess🌺

What are you thinking? I just can’t articulate my words correctly😭 so I wanna see if we are on the same wave link and maybe you could word it better 🫶🏽

madz

i fully agree, we get upset whenever someone disrespects bts and their culture so coolio has every right to be annoyed or upset if he feels like theyre disrespecting his. it sucks how hard hes being on V but hip hop isnt gentle, its harsh and thats exactly what hes teaching them

OT7Bangtan

Exactly. And I'm the biggest BTS defender and protector, but I just wish people took time to invest in the very thing BTS loves. And it's such an amazing full circle now seeing how much V music taste has grown. Nam was trying to drill in their heads the importance of diversity in music. V gets it now.

Annmarie

Idk Tae with his hair like coolio, while making the sandwich always KILLS ME 💀😂

ghint

The fandom really does have a love-hate relationship with this show. Many parts of it make me angry, and others make me cringe hard, but there are also parts, in fact, most of the show, that I genuinely like because they clearly showcase each member's personality and how those traits were being shaped. Seeing Tae in that situation made me furious, but it also made me realize just how mature and resilient he is, never letting anything shake him. Further along, you'll see that Jimin is like that too; he goes through his own tough moments as well (they all do), but he's such a good sport and never lets bad situations keep him down. That's why I think the two of them fit so well together and became each other's rock. I loved seeing Jungkook enjoy himself and have fun with everything (even after the first episode), proving he has always been brave from the very beginning. I loved seeing Hobi step into the natural leadership role he carries within him, even if he isn't BTS's official leader, we constantly see him leading their performance side. I also loved seeing Jin and Yoongi display their distinct personalities and how each knows how to assert himself in those moments, just in very different ways. And I appreciated seeing Namjoon navigate the duality between being the group's leader and just another guy there to learn lessons, knowing when not to intervene because he understands that each member needs to go through it to grow stronger. All in all, between the hate and the love, I end up liking the show more because it does such a great job showing each of their personalities in the making.

akaV⁷✌🏼⊙⊝⊜

26:36 Are we going to skip over V wearing a cast when they got up in the morning? He's wearing it the whole time he leaves his bed and goes over to Nate's bed, saying it's noisy. He still has it when he's sitting on the stool playing video games. Must've been something he was told to wear at night bc once they're dressed and on the couch talking about eating & shopping, he's no longer wearing it. Did we ever get the reason why he had to?

1osaki

this episode makes me laugh because Tae was really playing in Coolio face with the cooking show LOL

OT7Bangtan

I might be reaching. They just feel extremely SHELTERED. Not used to black culture. Unwoke? Sorry if thats not what you were referring too.

OT7Bangtan

Just interesting to me how people who've had their own perceived notions of BTS, get so easily irritated when others do. Love CCW, but I also remember a lot of things they've thought about BTS. I get being protective...NOW.

akaV⁷✌🏼⊙⊝⊜

Idk if I can watch anymore eps lol That lady was flirting when she gave V her personal nbr, not for him to call her if he wants to buy more stuff. Subtitles say "V is popular around older women." And that guy did NOT hit Jin in a playful manner. He says to Jin & Suga, "Y'all don't listen to me." and then hits Jin as if he's being a brat! I know you're concerned with reading all the subtitles, but in doing so, you missed some context imo.

akaV⁷✌🏼⊙⊝⊜

Exactly! She was flirting with him giving her phone nbr. They missed context in the subtitles.

Jessica

I don’t think it was that bad lol they need tough skin the music industry is no joke and look at them nowwwww. They get endless hate and harsh words towards them and they are never phased and it never stops them from pursing new things Side note: RM doing Stevie Wonder had me friedddd

Tay Tay

I can see this too! Definitely feels disconnected from Black culture. I think that’s also shaping some of the reactions they have unconsciously. Like yes, it’s intense, cringe, and extra at certain points but at the same time, they really did need to take things seriously and also realize what true hip hop is.

Chiii<3

Rm was so funny at that part😂🤣🤣

Chiii<3

I agree. They don’t understand black culture clearly and have certain preconceived notions

OT7Bangtan

Preach!!!! Thank you!!! Lord, yes!

Dess🌺

Yesss this is it, thank you

Dess🌺

It’s almost like CCW is uncomfortable by it

Geórgia Cordeiro Dantas

After this episode the rapper Dante who was in Jin and Yoongi's team, disappears from the show with no explanation. So I do think that "hit" on Jin's face was not something the production team agreed with. My theory is that since it was a reality show Dante wanted to play up the "villain" role for the cameras a bit (we know most reality TV has someone "playing" that role) and it went a bit too far for the staff liking. I noticed Summer uncomfortable with that Grown *ss woman hitting on 18 years old Tae (32:49). Same Summer, same. I mean, I don't know if the woman knew he was a teen, but Tae did look very young, so it was very inappropriate. This second episode it's a tough watch for me cause I am Jin and Tae biased. But all 7 went through some very uncomfortable situations. But I am still grateful for all they have learned about hip hop through this show. AHL at least shows how much effort BTS members have put into learning more about African-American culture. They were exausted but still willing to put in the work.

Mimi

I think its same for all culture, unless you grow with or around, it will be new and different. Same with korean culture when I started with it, a lot of stuff felt super cringe especially aegyo culture but now that I’m so much exposed to BTS, kdrama, k movies, it doesn’t make me cringe at all. It also gave me different perspective all around.

ana

bro that video w tae in the pigtails dancing behind coolio always fries me😭😭😭

Chiii<3

Yuppp I mean I’m not surprised, but I’m tired of people picking and choosing which cultures they want to respect and which they turn their nose up to. Especially since BTS themselves have put in the work to understand and properly appreciate black culture

OT7Bangtan

This!! I was surprised they didn't understand that.

Marvelous JJ

Everyone has the right to their opinion. I very much disagree with you. My only comment on this is the following. There is a lot of good ways to educate people on important topics. Bullying teenagers who don't even speak the same language will NEVER be okay with me. I find it very disturbing how people choose to side with Coolio here and attack V like this. V's own reflections on his life do not give people freedom to share clearly negative (sometimes even hate) comments about his younger self, as if they personally knew him. Per our knowledge, the vocal line members did not have personal interest in all the music genres when they joined Big Hit. They were invited to join the group with hip hop focus so they worked hard and learned about music, singing and dancing. Education is great & important, but it should never be degrading or done with anger. EDIT: I should have stayed away from this comment section. Way too triggering.

OT7Bangtan

I appreciate your comment. But bullying and tough love are two different things. Its easy to say he's bullying him, when all we see is what the show is showing us. We saw a fragment of their interaction. We don't know whats being said in between takes. If you don't understand Black culture and you wanna play in the face of someone who isn't just rapping about it, but actually living it...everyday, you need to know that its not gonna be taken lightly. Some people, like Coolio react this way as their only way to prepare him. Not everyone in this industry is gonna coddle you. Do you know how many people publicly diss BTS for being Koreans creating Black music?

Charm313

it says a lot that the guys hardly remember this time, even right after this was released (when I first started following them). I was actually surprised that Joon mentioned it during the LA stop of the current tour. my biggest take away from this, even to this day, is Tae's attitude about life - which he has retained to this day (the laissez faire of it all - though he is more mindful/mature, but the harmless mischief is still there). *spoiler* just a hint - especially the whole "confidence, confidence" part. because I feel that he has carried that with him still.

Nehal Elsamahy

This show is bringing back the kind of anger I thought I managed to work out of my system in therapy.

Steph

Calling him clown and a disadvantage is tough love and not bullying? lol ok And yes we don’t see behind the scenes but we are allowed to react how we react to what is being shown and yall can’t blame ppl for that lol

carlagirl7 .

IF you go back to ep 1, during the "kidnapping" you will see Suga look directly in the camera...It's like he remembered this is all being filmed, just go along with it....

TaeTaeBear ⁷ 💜

Well no he was so rude and disrespectful hip hop is not easy and soft but it also no disrespectful, they met a lot of hip hop teachers in this show but none of them were this rude and disrespectful , this was his choice and the culture, just because you don’t like bubbley people it does not mean they’re not respectful of your culture and add to that that Tae didn’t do anything to offend him and he knew they don’t know the language nor the culture 😤😤😤and btw I’m sure that Tae said he’ll straighten up if he go back was not because he really want to but because of all the hate he got from not fitting in the box be it this show or the people calling him alien

Latkat

Beautifully explained 💜

TaeTaeBear ⁷ 💜

Honestly I find Coolio’s episodes are the most cringy part of this show the rest were fine by me

ghint

I see what you mean, but I also understand where this is coming from. They were introduced to hip-hop mainly through BTS, and that was the case for me as well. I'm not from the US, and I had no ties to hip-hop culture either in my home country or in the States. Honestly, I only became more interested in hip-hop culture because of BTS, which is why it took me longer to truly understand it. I agree we have to face the fact that most of BTS wanted to flaunt a culture they knew almost nothing about, and that's why people were so hard on them. I imagine the reaction was along the lines of: 'What do you mean you call yourself hip-hop when you barely know its history?' At the same time, I see plenty of new artists nowadays who definitely know nothing about hip-hop history and are just using it to make money, yet they don't get that kind of backlash simply because they're Western. So I can't help but wonder if a Western group in that same situation would have received the same treatment. I think they're slowly starting to realize just how clueless they were and how important it is to learn about it. But I also understand it's tough they were just teenagers being put in difficult situations, so I can see why feelings are mixed :/

Dottie

oh wait... i didn't noticed before.... that dinner photo taken with Coolio at 25:46, the guy with long hair on the left side... was that Steve Aoki??? or no???

domina💜

they sometimes miss things😫

Jade

It was cringe uncomfortable for sure but you absolutely have to have knowledge of hip hop culture/history if you're going to be a hip hop group which is what they were at that time. They did learn valuable lessons from this wild ride!

domina💜

I wishhh army would understand this episode is quite literally 80% satire lmao😹

Angel

a western group in the same situation? honestly if anything it would have been even worst bc ppl over here are expected to know better believe me there are lines that if they're crossed over here ppl know that they're crossing them

bowie is tired

I agree, they can be a bit insensitive towards black culture at times

Geórgia Cordeiro Dantas

Just my 2 cents about this show being "cringey." I don't think people refer to the hip hop part of AHL as being the "cringey" part of it. At least that's not the part I see as cringey. The part I see as cringey are the parts where the production team intentionaly put BTS in embarrassing situations. For exemple, I don't think Coolio came up with the random *ss idea of making BTS go door to door asking random people to watch them perform. Probably the Production team came up with that and asked Coolio to pass it on to them as a "mission". I may be mistaken, but that's not hip hop culture. I never heard of a rapper, or any other kind of singer for that matter, that went door to door offering to perform on people's porches on random neighborhoods in the middle of the day. That's a situation intentionaly created to embarrass BTS. These kinds of situations the production team created are the "cringey" part of AHL for me. Definitely not the parts where they were actualy being taught useful information/skills about African-American culture. Also I do not think some members not knowing Hip Hop culture is cringey. No one is born knowing all things. We have all listened/watched/eaten something from a different culture and thought 'that's cool" without knowing much about it. We all have to start somewhere. So not knowing is not cringey or embarrassing, as long as they are willing to learn.

bowie is tired

I understand why yall feel that way about Coolio, but most of what he said was warranted whether we like it or not. Yes, he was maybe more harsh than he needed to be but hiphop culture is not a joke, its peoples whole lives, which is why he felt the way he did about them goofing around. BUT!! Its already been revealed multiple times that the “military sergeant” act that the mentors put on was played up a bit for the show (which summer kinda mentioned)! The tannies still love and appreciated the mentors (but i still don’t fw Dante tryna hit jin)

bowie is tired

I also hope yall are more mindful of black culture for future episodes, just something ive noticed over the years of yall reacting to bts 😓 no hard feelings im saying this out of love

BabyDoll

He was looking at the camera because they were filming. You saw them giving their feedback on the "kidnap" so obviously they had no knowledge of it.

Hina

AHL is harmless compared to the very few Korean variety shows they were on in the early years. Those I absolutely refuse to rewatch. Not knowing about hiphop isn’t embarrassing, not knowing much about hiphop whilst BEING a hiphop centred group absolutely is embarrassing. For me the hardest part about this timeline is how hard they were struggling to balance filming the show and create their album at the same time. This is the time they always reference about wanting to escape or end things etc etc I can imagine, the workload was acc insane 😭😭 If I didn’t know V at all and I had walked into the room as a black woman and the FIRST thing he says to me is ‘turn up’ - that would have me irritated 😂😂 he definitely irritated coolio lmao but he’s not actually offended, you can tell. He’s receptive to their performance, hes given them tasks to improve their confidence and sharpen their knowledge around their own craft. Sure, things are dramatised for entertainment purposes but I’ve never felt anything other than the kidnapping nonsense and the intensity of their schedule on top of that was harmful to BTS.

amberrr

Thank you!!! You said it perfectly. I have a hate love relationship with this show but this I will stand on. While I do not agree with Coolio and some comments, the way BTS really needed to be made educated on culture is very important. You can’t just come at someone who makes this music, whose music originated in their culture, and act all goofy. You have to be respectful and understand. Asian culture especially oversees tries to very much appropriate black culture without even understanding the depths of this. And this is coming from a blasian where I see both sides.

amberrr

I mean, this show just shows why BTS became so successful. They were very open-minded and took the time to understand the culture. But I do feel very bad for Jin and yoongi, you could tell how much yoongi was trying to keep in his anger.

Geórgia Cordeiro Dantas

Yeah, they had been recording in the van all day, so of course they knew the van had cameras. That was everyday life for them, nothing unusual. When they got to the dorm they may or may not have realized there were cameras in the dorm, but, guys, the uncomfortable reality is adults kidnapping young foreigners may have cameras in a dorm for entirely different "very bad" reasons. Yeah, dark thought, I know. But sadly this is something that happens in the world. But I am sure Yoongi and maybe a couple of other members had doubts the "kidnapping" was real. But some of the members were really scared for their lives.

Rudy🌸

I love this show but at the same time I get sensitive when coolio scolds v lmaoo, I know it's not that deep but i'm very maternal towards v and Jungkook even though they're 8 years older than me..

Nemo⁷

😭😭😭girl me too. I love taehyung in AHL because of his free spirited personality

min

#felt it was lowkey the same when they first started watching bts im guessing it’s an exposure to different cultures thing but yeah…

CJ

As a non-American, I find it fascinating that some Americans our age aren't all that familiar with Black culture and/or hip hop. CCW has mentioned a few times that they know next to nothing about it, which is completely fine, but I'd have assumed living in Texas would mean at least some exposure. This is not criticism, but an observation. Anyway, I agree some of Coolio's methods came across as pretty harsh, but K-pop has a long track record of being called out for cultural appropriation, so I think that education was important then and still is now. Especially since BTS famously started out as a hip hop group. However, Mnet really milked Black stereotypes on this show, but not surprising how East Asian media adapts and portrays PoC. lol.

Taz

Atually a lot in this episode, they missed things because they talk a lot without pausing, sometimes all of them were talking at the same time. I don't think they paused even once throughout the episode.

𝓔𝓭 ⁷

I tried guys, truly, but I can’t. Ive stopped at 14:32 😭 i will try again in ep 3 🤷‍♀️

Lindy

I agree with Summer, I thought Coolio didn't get along very well with V... but the hip hop industry has a macho culture, of being rough and aggressive. AHL is where many memes were born, and my favorite is the one with "hey how much is this? Excuse me" - very cute. 💜 ⟭⟬ BTS ⟭⟬ 💜

✨

They have always seemed uncomfortable with black culture. We have seen it in earlier reactions (like music with female rapper feats), they just become awkward. I don't know what it is but they seem to not want to speak on or interact with such content (could be a difference in cultures and them not knowing much)

Dess🌺

You peeped it too?!

mimi ྀིྀིྀིྀིྀི

I agree! You can 100% tell how this show impacted them and their careers during and after. The guys were ignorant with a lot of things in the past and this show is one of the reasons that helped them grow. I think the cringe aspect just comes from the fact that the show itself made the members do a lot of awkward stuff (and this was 2014 - every1 thinks back then was a cringe era lol). But the members needed that toughness and did need to be taught a lesson. Some of it was rough to watch when you look at how young some of them were, but it clearly paid off. It's unfortunate that a lot of armys refuse to acknowledge the pros of the show.

smilehoyaaaaaa💜

This is exactly why they should’ve skipped this show. I didn’t understand why people were voting for it so much because given their personality types & what we’ve seen CCW enjoy watching, this was a total miss. The content recommendations gotta be better.

OT7Bangtan

Well said. I totally agree with the cringe comes from the producers desire to put them in different, "unique" scenarios. They indeed needed toughness or else this industry would eat them alive.

Jayden

I thought the same thing. And he had in on right after doing the pushups it seems. I haven’t re watched this since I was baby army so idk if it gets mentioned later on Edit: I googled and it says he had a minor finger injury during their intensive training and activities in LA, but idk and can’t find anything else as of rn

CJ

I know it's a tough pill to swallow for some, but hard agree. If you're borrowing (or being inspired) from a culture the least you could do is be educated on the said culture. If my younger brother at 18 was going around spitting AAVE with not context, I wouldn't mind someone putting him in his place lol. I also think Mnet edited this show in a way to further feed into negative black stereotypes. Anyway, I'm so proud of BTS for how far they've come since then, and this show is just what it is.

Kenny

Could not have said it better myself! It always rubs me the wrong way when people treat the way they behaved in the early years as if it was just some edgy, bad boy concept. No, it was them trying to portray themselves in a way that wasn’t true to their personalities or artistry, bc “that’s hip-hop”. That’s the real cringe of it all, the way so many non-black people treat it all as some sort of caricature without any real meaning or shared history, and we should just accept their imitation as light-hearted flattery. Absolutely not. Regardless of how good their music has always been, that’s never been okay. Coolio saw through it right away with the way V approached him, and however sweet and gentle he is at his core didn’t matter, the message did. I also think it’s very clear that Coolio was still endeared by V in a lot of ways, he literally was fighting not to smile half the time, but it’s a crappy reality show. Entertainment was needed, and so was the lesson he was trying to impart on him even if it was sloppy in execution 🤷🏾‍♀️ That being said this show is so wholly cringe a part of me shrivels up and dies every 5 seconds 😭 Still, I’ve always loved it for what it is!

Kenny

100% agree with everything you’ve said here.

Kenny

Louder for the people in the back, honestly…

akaV⁷✌🏼⊙⊝⊜

Thx! You reminded me, he was filmed going to the doctor's. Maybe it was bts/bonus footage.

OT7Bangtan

Girl! Exactly. The problem is people always thinking BTS wants to be coddled like little children. These are grown men. Whether or not they were all adults at that time doesn't give them a pass for THINKING they knew what Black culture was really about. A lot of Black men parent the way Coolio approached V. Some people think its harsh. No, this survival for Black men. They needed a stern kicking. They also fail to even notice that it was cringe for RM to have to deal with the members behavior in front of these other men. They also fail to remember how embarrassed RM was with some of the members exposure to other music. Which I should say, lack of. And for people to call it bullying by Coolio. PLEASE!!! This is crumbs compared to the flack they get from other people in and outside the industry.

OT7Bangtan

Thank you! I couldn't agree more with you as well.

Angie7

I can’t say anything about Coolio that doesn’t end up in four letter words. I don’t care how big of a celebrity you THINK you are, that does not give you the right to degrade and embarrass others. He just repulsed me as a human and that’s the nicest thing I can think of to say about him.

Victorya Rocha

I'll be honest. I can't watch this show without having a break to pause the shame of others. I know that this show, everything about him, at the time was fascinating. but you see a video like this in 2026 even more knowing the history that BTS has now, it's very uncomfortable and embarrassing. I don't agree with part of the things that the boys had to go through, however, we are talking about the Hip hop area, the area where at that time they had fought so hard for space. part of the things that happened to BTS in this show, I would say that it was what shaped them as artists to this day. all the American hatred deposited on their shoulders, in Namjoom's view, made him already know how to work with the North American public. this whole show is a pain in the kidney to watch, but deep down, it was very worth it. it may be that Coolio exaggerated, but you can see that he was shaped that way by the musical culture of hip hop itself. BTS made it clear from the beginning that they WERE NEVER a group set up for hip hop, I have so much relief to know that they managed to make room for other genres in a more fun way and about themselves

Diana Casillas

Tbh I didn’t remember much about this episode but watching it again now I think Coolio’s message/teaching lesson was well received The missions he gave them might seem silly at first, and you might even wonder what going door to door showing off their hip-hop skills has to do with becoming better artists. But in the end, Coolio explained the reasoning behind each mission during every evaluation. One of the most important messages Coolio was trying to teach them was that hip-hop culture is not a game. It is a way of life, and it should be taken as seriously as it deserves to be. And especially if you are planning to draw inspiration from that culture to create your own music, it was clear that BTS still had a lot to learn at that point. The missions were also about presentation and the final product. And I think that was extremely important for BTS, and even for Big Hit, because we know how much care they put into presenting their work to the public. BTS puts a lot of effort into their art. They constantly try to improve and perfect what they create, and what they give ARMY is always something they want to be proud of and that they want to be high quality. And we can still see that today. They sold out their tour, and we bought ARIRANG without even knowing what the album would look like, what songs would be on it, or what concept they would go for in this new era. Why? Because we trust that whatever they present to us will be something worth investing in. We know how much effort and work they put into giving us their best. So I think that through this episode, we can see how the young members of BTS were gradually learning these lessons. They were learning to take more seriously their commitment to the art and music they wanted to create, as well as the image they wanted BTS to represent. I honestly think that, despite the circumstances under which the show happened, it was a program that shaped them and taught them a lot. Looking back, you can see that those seemingly random or even silly missions were actually teaching them lessons that became really important to the artists they would eventually become.

Daniela Knapp

i dont know why i always feel so cringe when i see them knocking on strangers doors ? maybe i only want them stay safe inside my pocket were i can protect them . I know this was a once in a Lifetime opportunity for them to learn and improof but i cant help the way i feel for this

They used to pause before, but A LOT of people complain when reactors pause. So CCW stopped doing that. It's hard to know what the majority prefers. I even saw some other reactors having to put a disclaimer before their reactions saying they were going to pause the video, so they would not get complains. I don't mind CCW not pausing that much since most people do not pause when they are watching something for the first time. This is kind of the "natural" way of watching something. But it can be frustrating when they miss an important context. AHL is especially hard cause there is SO MUCH going on onscreen. Like Mnet puts a lot of random phrases while members are talking making even harder to keep up.

Taz

I think majority would agree that they have to pause. Those people that don't want the pausing are the minority. It's frustrating to watch when they always talk over the video then missed some things. Sometimes they want to say something but can't or they forget what they were about to say. I want them to pause and talk rather than talking and missing a lot.

Tae

Literally me😭😭

Brit

I can watch this old stuff on my own because I’m desensitized but somehow seeing you all have to witness it for the first time gave me secondhand embarrassment lol

Brit

I can’t watch 🫣

SRK

Coolio passed away in 2022.

Brit

Like Namjoon spoke English BUT NOT ENOUGH TO KNOW WHAT A NATIVE WOULD FIND ULTRA CRINGE IM WINCING LISTENING TO THE ADLIBS NOOOOOOOOOO

Myah Lindsey

Yall acting like they’ve watched this before or something like they’re reacting that’s what they do. Acting like they’re supposed to know everything when you know they don’t just fussing. Calm down

The industry would've eaten them alive immediately. With the hate they're facing now, I can't imagine what it would be like if they didn't educate themselves. I'm not black myself, so I obviously can't speak about the culture fully, but if you look at 2013/2014 BTS compared to them in 2015, it's crazy!! Thank you for being the one of the few sane ones in the comments lol. I think they just need to remember the era this was shot in and WHY it's important.

Lindy

BTS themselves have said that AHL was an intense, difficult, but important experience of learning and cultural immersion in hip-hop. I thought they were very clever when they were separated into groups and tried to interact with the neighborhood, because with the exception of RM they didn't know how to speak English and they expressed themselves very well.

Lizzy's Mom

A lot of people assume that about the US, but in reality there is still a lot of segregation in our country. Most of it has to do with things like red-lining during Jim Crowe, also because of urban vs rural. In Texas, if they didn't live in Houston or Austin, they probably had more interaction with Latinos than black people. In the 80s I attended middle school in a fairly urban suburb of Atlanta and went to a school that was 70% black. My dad changed teaching jobs and we moved about 15 miles further away from Atlanta and there were 5 black kids in my entire 1000+ student school. It's just how the US is. I had almost no exposure to hip hop and I hated rap before BTS (mostly because of the content of commercial rap). It's not about being racist, which some people seem to be implying. It's lack of exposure and being aware enough to know that you should be careful and respectful with culture you don't completely understand.

Lizzy's Mom

I don't know for sure, but I would assume that they had more interaction with Latino culture than black culture and, rather than being "uncomfortable" with it, they are unfamiliar with it. I think maybe we could appreciate that CCW is respectful and aware enough to know that they shouldn't comment on things they don't really understand. To imply that they are racist because they have had less interaction with black culture is not fair. (And maybe that's not what you are implying..) But I guarantee you that you would be more upset if they acted a different way, if you get my meaning. I give them credit for respecting black people and black culture enough to not pretend that they understand it. Just a different perspective from a white woman who believes in diversity and equity and inclusion and knows what she doesn't know.

lm

Excuse meeeeeee i cant with jimin 😭😭😭😭😭

OT7Bangtan

I soooooo agree with you.

Giselle Vargas

maybe i’m too sensitive but am i the only one bothered by them laughing at the boys? like i get they don’t do it with any malice and it’s cause they might feel awkward for them, but i just imagine how out of place they felt, and the boys are trying to actually learn, and it really bothers me that they laugh at Tae and Namjoon’s performing.

Geórgia Cordeiro Dantas

Hi, I hope you don't mind me giving you my perspective as someone who has the same laughing reaction as CCW. I understand you may not have the same reaction, but a lot of people have a natural instinct to laugh to deal with tense, awkward situations. When we laugh at the Tae and Namjoon performing scenes is not because we don't know Tae and Namjoon are puting in the effort, or that they are talented. It's because the way this show built those scenes was very awkward. Mnet did this intentionaly, they could have given the boys more time to prepare and rehearse, but the production team wanted those scenes to be awkward to get views. For me, when I am watching those scenes, the anxiety and nervous feelings I get when I see the boys in those situations keeps rising and rising. This nervous feelings and anxiety have nowhere to go, so either I let it out or I combust. The way for me to let it out is through nervous laughter. You can see that for CCW is the same. Through out the episode you can notice Summer and Abby protecting their faces with their hands, Daniel rubbing his temples while lowering his head, even Gabriel, who doesn't show emotion easily, has moments he could not look at what was happening on the show. I see myself in all of that. It's nervous energy trying to get out because of the awkwardness. The easiest and most natural way is through nervous laughter. We all know, including CCW, how talented Namjoon and Tae are. Daniel even commented before the cooking performance that Namjoon and Tae could really perform. Abby and Daniel commented how Namjoon and Tae's performance idea was really great. They all said how heartbroken they were for Joon and Tae. So they were rooting and protective of Joon and Tae. We, me included, were not laughing cause Namjoon and Tae performing was laughable. But because we were feeling anxious and nervous because they were so young, cute and adorable, working so hard in a very surreal situation in which they had to improvise performances with little notice and almost no rehearsal time in very embarrassing situations (ex. the door to door thing). CCW even said some of those situations would be their worst nightmare and mentioned several times through the episode how nervous they were for the members to face consequences (Ex. Tae calling Nate noisy, Jin and Yoongi getting no votes, etc.). I don't how long you have been in this patreon, but Summer, for exemple, has mentioned several times through the years how she tends to laugh in inappropriate situations because she gets nervous laughter. TL;DR: Laughter can be a defense mechanism, so I'd say it's important to pay atenttion to other signs, like comments and body language, to know if someone is laughing cause they are "making fun of someone" or because they just don't know how else to handle the situation.

Giselle Vargas

no 100% i get that, which is why i expressed that i understand ccw feels awkward for the boys and that might be why they’re laughing

Gigi S.

Well said!!!

Lea

noo, i dont agree, ur exagerating, common, yall are too much, it was FUNNY lmao, the whole show is funny. If CCW found that funny, let them find that funny. Stop trying to controle their reactions. It wasnt even that serious.

Giselle Vargas

lmao no one is controlling anything. you’re so quick to say to let them have their own reaction, then maybe you should mind your business and let me have my own opinion.

Lea

'' let me have my own opinion'' u say? your words? WELL here was MY opinion about YOUR opinion. Its a comment section. Deal with it

smilehoyaaaaaa💜

I think what OP was saying in their first comment was that they don’t have to say anything but you can tell that they are uncomfortable and/or want to say something but they’re holding back. I didn’t see them calling them racist maybe I missed that comment

Kendall

No shade y’all are acting like they are little kids like I’m so confused when did mocking someone like tae did to be funny equal sympathy and for everyone to act like omg he’s only 21teen, like bts needed this show badly they all said the n word before coming on the show they all made colorist and racist remarks before the show.this show helped them understand hip hop as a culture and just not something cool. Also tae came disrespecting coolio ngl by speaking to him how he viewed black people, very stereotypical.

Kearyce Moore

Exactly how I felt when I watched it for the first time in 2015 even though this came out in 2014, but I appreciated how they started to understand more and more through each episode.

Kearyce Moore

Hey guys, I'm back ( had family loss). Yes this show may have harsh moments, but I'm glad they learned it and appreciated what it's like if you lose everything you work/worked hard for.

Jae Oli

agree to everything! I don’t understand why Coolio was perceived wrongly here. Everything he said is really what hiphop culture and history. His song alone “Gangsters Paradise” says it all…This is why they were there to learn. I hoped we are as open minded as BTS.

mia

they didn’t all say the n word, only namjoon did and apologized for it, for tae his personality was always goofy and unique but i don’t think he was intentionally trying to disrespect coolio, remember that he’s coming from a whole different language and culture and he’s young so he was a mess but he’s good now which is what truly matters

Kendall

Firstly they all did say the n word when they were singing to that skrillex song and for tae it doesn’t matter how he meant it if it was offensive and Ignorant, if I speak stereotypical to East Asians and speak how I think they would like that is offensive no matter what so it’s the same with black people

itsniky_m

You probably already know this but Dante was removed from the show right after this... he was clearly being disrespectful to them and I'm glad the label didn't let that continue. Jin and Suga were visibly upset and trying to hold back, so I'm glad they were protected.

Majestic bunny

I I want to take the time to appreciate Gabe's haircut that fits him so well I love it

Ryuken Fujiwara

19:02 I bet the daughter must be BTS Army by now in 2026 after she met BTS on the show at the time. Her friends probably wouldn't believe her if she told them that she met BTS before BTS became famous or a thing in America and she is like one of the earliest Black American girls who watched BTS performance in person.
