If you remember the actual solar eclipse is only going to be minutes long, so the invasion has to be quick

And yes the fire benders won't be able to bend at all, just like when the north pole was attacked and the moon disappeared their bending wouldn't work

Ah so to clarify because it was a while ago, the invasion plan was planned the whole time while Aang was still unconscious. Remember in ep 1 they had Hakoda and Bato with them, some of their other allies, and Sokka explained how the plan had changed. All of your questions will be answered of course, and they’re not going into it unplanned. From here on out it’s gonna be intense. I love this back half of the season so much!!
