I'll admit it's mostly for the audience's benefit. For one, I felt it would be creepy/lame if Query was attracting people she wasn't attracted to. Additionally, I wanted the audience to understand why men and masc people weren't flirting with her or under the influence of her whora. Just smooths things out a bit.
