Route B: My Best Friend's Girlfriend Chapter 9 (Patreon)

As promised, we will now begin exploring the alternative ending to My Best Friend's Girlfriend. This first post will be all for all patrons and the public, as will the next one. Then, this story will become a patreon exclusive for $5 and more patrons. We're going to start with Chapter 9. Chapter 9, for me, is when the story took it's darker turn and started to escape me. Everything got messy when Maria came back into the picture. The part that left a bad taste in my mouth is that this story is called: "My Best Friend's Girlfriend," but Maria quickly gets sidelined in the story. When Maria comes back, she is a nuisance and then sidelined again. 

I wanted to explore the Sarah and Maria relationship more. They are best friends, after all. I wanted to defend their relationship from the meddling of Reyna. So, I felt that the point where Maria came back into the story was the best place to alter the trajectory of their story. I could save them if I started there. 

Now, to a casual reader, this may not look like there are major changes. I would say that most of the plot stays the same in this chapter. We will get major moves away from the plot in Chapter 10. But in order for the changes in Chapter 10 to make sense, I needed the changes to start here, in Chapter 9. Don't look at the plot for changes; look at the tone. Look at the way Sarah talks about Maria and thinks about Maria. That's the best point of access for where the story is taking a change. I tend to move slow in my plots, I want the character change to feel natural and progressive, so the alternate ending starts off glacially slow.
