Maomao has been "allowed" to make medicines. By the royal family. That is how she is getting away with making medicines. The Emperor himself finds her useful. And a lot of secrets about the royal family will be revealed in the next 3 episodes.

This episode was good and I agree with you about how hard Lady Lihua must have slapped that woman to have her hand hurt afterwards. The next three episodes are going to be a bit of a rollercoaster of emotions. Not saying anything, but be prepared.

Maomao didn't make any medicine for Lihua when she nursed her back to health. She just altered her diet and stuff to help flush the lead out of her system and get her strong and healthy again. She's made medicine for the doctor at his request, so he has a reason to keep her secret. She does have some important people's favor, including the emperor, but that's not absolute, if someone important enough got pissed at her they could still make trouble for her if they knew she was making medicine.

Lady Lihua by dismissing Shin heads off her execution but not to protect Shin but the humiliation that would have fallen on the family if Shin were executed for trying to kill the Emperor's baby. Instead Shin is sent back to the family disgraced by being dismissed which causes some loss of face by the family and destroys Shin's chances of having any power in the family. The family will shut her in a room and she may never see the light of day again.
