So the mirror is reflecting the shape of the ceiling? The ceiling behind her then. He feeds her tea and oranges that don't come all the way from china. And she lets the river answer that she is not his lover anymore. And she wants to travel away And she wants to travel blind Because she has left his perfect body With her mind. Old song.

You switch on your computer in the morning, check what fresh chaos the world has prepared, and nod politely at the absurdity of it all. Tyler brews tea like a man who has seen things. A proper bloke, no irony attached. And Novel? Novel somehow manages to lift my mood before the kettle’s even finished boiling.

"You switch on your computer in the morning, check what fresh chaos the world has prepared, and nod politely at the absurdity of it all." Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Dylan Thomas thinks it would have been better for us if our words had forked some lightening. I woke up this morning realizing that Novel's promise that all sex would be optional was only half kept. Emma did not have a real choice. If she dallied with the harmless charming painter, she can not say no to the nefarious corrupter. If she did not dally with the painter, she has a hard time saying yes. Emma has not been allowed her agency. In other words a woman who actually likes a guy like Victor would not at all like a guy like the painter in the normal run of things. But maybe not; she should have the choice. Tyler has seen things because he makes proper tea? Tyler allows himself to be blown by Samantha and then thinks god will be fooled if he prays. Twice he does that. Twerp. God should have some lightening for guys like him.

For the record — it is possible to play it that way: Emma getting completely carried away during her visit to the painter and, as a result, turning Victor down. She doesn’t have to be a saint all the time. That’s how I played it, and it worked perfectly well. As for Dylan: Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night. I suspect Tyler has only just realised (was he struck by lightning?) the thrill of having had treasure in his hands and treating it so carelessly. Tea certainly won’t fix that — though perhaps… well, who knows. It’s rather interesting, actually, how scenes of mutual uncertainty and awkwardness between husband and wife tend to look the same wherever you go. ;)

She doesn’t have to be a saint all the time. That’s how I played it, and it worked perfectly well." No fair. After fooling around with the painter, my Emma did not have sufficient resistance to say no. It doesn't matter, because I play multiple paths with different choices. In these two paths, Emma starts with the same resistance level before the painter. One can say no to Victor, the other can't. Agency denied again. Ah, you know Dylan too. Good girl. "thrill of having had treasure in his hands and treating it so carelessly." Yes, you are such a fool Tyler. More gentleness with Emma would have served you well too. Making up for it now? Yes Tyler, you did see her after sex with Victor scene and you know what that means don't you? Novel says no break between them until the end of the game, so universal behavior or not, tea is what Tyler does.

Oh, “good girl”, is it? Hardly. If anything, I’m the last person who should be handed a halo. Much like you I’ve spent more hours than I care to admit poking around in… let’s call them questionable games. ;) Strictly for research purposes, of course — purely academic curiosity, nothing at all to do with taste or judgement. ;) And as for the game itself — everything that happens to those poor characters is the direct result of our own choices. That’s the uncomfortable bit, isn’t it? These games tend to reveal far more about us than about their developers, let alone the fictional (if admittedly rather compelling) characters wandering around inside them. BTW: I’m delighted your Emma can apparently swan off to the painter, have her grand moment of artistic abandon, and still muster the backbone to turn Victor down. Good boy. ;)

"BTW: I’m delighted your Emma can apparently swan off to the painter, have her grand moment of artistic abandon, and still muster the backbone to turn Victor down. Good boy. ;)" I thought it was your Emma that was able to do that. That was my complaint. She angled to get the painter in a bed but failed so far. And that attempt is what prevented her from being able to tell Victor no. To be able to do that she needed to not do the painter thing at all. because that left her with not enough resistance to say no. Perhaps my Emma tried extra hard with the painter. I don't take full responsibility if Novel is going to limit my choices. He chooses to deny Emma agency in certain situations. That feels to me like giving humans a computer chip mentality. If they do this, they must do that. There are likelihoods. If Emma likes Victor, she will not like the painter. That would be a real human type decision. If Emma likes the painter, she must like Victor is a computer chip decision. If Emma doesn't care about liking a person, she simply wants sex any old place, that is a broken computer chip decision. It is true that humans do not always exercise their agency, that is a different problem. "poking around in…let’s call them questionable games." No halo for that. But for poking around in poetry...kudos if not halo. Double kudos for understanding it, and not going euuuw. Stinky poetry. Ugh.

Thanks for the kind words. I work with numbers all day, and my guilty pleasure is playing around with words. Bit of an odd mix, I know — but it’s a fascinating rabbit hole to fall into.
