MaoMao's father was more than equipped to handle a breach birth as he was also trained as a Western doctor and could have performed a Caesarian if necessary. He was called away to attend the Empress Dowager in the same way we saw the quack doctor being called to attend the Prince instead of the Princess during the face powder incident. He had no choice at all, seeing the Emperor's child would trump seeing the then-Prince's child. I love that he bribed her at the end with cordyceps fungus, which is the same one that destroyed the world in The Last of Us.

**Speculation Below about Jinshi, Anime-only so Could be Wrong** When MaoMao was kidnapped, it was by people in Fengming's family. They were receiving a portion of her wages because they sold her off. She is in no way actually related to them, but anyone related to Fengming is being stripped as punishment for the poisoning so this includes MaoMao since she is "family" Given Jinshi's possible power from last episode (the son of the Emperor is much more important than the brother of the Emperor, as a son of the current emperor would inherit before a brother) he could make the whole thing disappear and keep MaoMao around, but he doesn't think she wants that. I'm anime only but that is how I interpreted it, it seems clear that Jinshi is Ah Duo's son (who was possibly switched with the Empress Dowager's baby, as maybe he was healthier) and then "Ah Duo's baby" died from the honey. That would make Jinshi the son of the current Emperor, disguised as his brother (who is sickly and rarely seen out). MaoMao's father was punished and expelled to keep the secret since he delivered both babies he would know. That's assuming Jinshi's not just a beautiful eunuch, but only eunuchs and members of the Emperor's family are allowed in the rear palace. There's some convoluted political plotting around the rear palace.
