Just to clarify context for a scene, because the anime skips over it entirely. The scene where Irumyuui tells Vueko she has the "scent of mating with lots of people", Vueko is actually in a relationship with the blue haired girl (her assistant). It's actually a very wholesome and romantic relationship so I'm sad the anime skipped it. But in the manga Irumyuui walks in on them "enjoying each other's company" and presumably they do a lot of that since there isn't much else to do down there, so Vueko gets embarrassed that Irumyuui knows. Her relationship with the blue haired girl is actually relevant later on too

Allweather

Wazukan has a wish egg in his neck that Irumyuui took when she consumed his body and gave the two she had originally plus that one to Faputa. Also they are 100% living inside the body of Irumyuui, they cant leave the village as they have become part of her and cant cross the barrier to the outside without disappearing.

Allweather

Also just to twist the knife, think about why in the village human children are the most valuable thing....

HaruhiDream

Someone already mentioned it but yeah, Vueko was in a relationship with the blue haired girl. That is why Irumyui mentioned her scent. These two episodes really punch you in the gut with emotions.

godUsoland

Haha, yeah. This show can make you FEEL things almost no other show can. Truly rare when a series can do that.

'What change did Belaf undergo to be eating Mitty?" I mean...to be fair to Belaf, Mitty is Immortal, and apparently tastes good. So he wanted an Endless Food supply. Because even as a Hollow, they need to eat. And it's not like he can leave the village, and feeding something his size must take a lot of food. Plus, eating the kids broke him.

AnimeDateNight

but didn't he hate himself for eating Irumuuyi's kids?? Now he's like, "whatevs"?

godUsoland

Vueko: "I just don't want to forget about her." Endless Embrace starts playing: "I still remember you; the time we shared, the love you gave. Though everything has changed, you push me to live on" The Ending Lyrics tie in so perfectly with Episode 8! An Endless Embrace indeed!

Midnight

These are the two episodes I watch back to back whenever I want to feel happy and chipper! (Just kidding I die inside every time! But I also get to see other die inside watching it for the first time so there is some enjoyment in that. Suffering together.... Almost like we are travelling deep into the Abyss on Journey!)

This is why, after reading the manga, the start of season 2 made me so nauseous. Because all the memories of this arc came flooding back in. Thing is, in the manga, we only discover those characters when Vueko told her story. There was crossing narrative like in episode 1, so the shock was way more intense realizing who these characters turned out to be. Also, not everyone living in the village right now is from the original group. Just like Riko, for the 2000 years since Vueko's group got to the abyss, many travelers got to the village and decided to live there, not knowing the full extent of its past. Like Maa and Moogi, for example. Are you guilty when you have no idea what crime you are comiting or who you're hurting ? But yeah, Faputa is like a child that can't go back into her mother's womb, and the people who gave their life to Irumiyui can't go back to the world outside. In a way, she protected her last child, using the 2 eggs she got and the one Wazukyan used on himself, from getting the same fate. Remember what we've been told : Iruburu, the village, means at 50% village, at 40% craddle, and at 10% mother.

Allweather

Also human children are most valuable as they are the one thing irumyuui couldnt have and because the villagers are all "part of her" they inherited some of her wishes/desires.

I don't think that's right and is a bit of wishful thinking on the part of the fandom. For one, the scene where Irumyuui mentions the "scent of mating with lots of people" happens prior to the single panel, I'm emphasizing single panel here since it's the only panel that shows any romantic relationship between the two, where Vueko is getting jiggy with Pakkoyan. I'm pretty sure the romantic feelings were one sided. Vueko's role in the Ganja was to "take care" of people. It's implied this means not only medical care but sexual gratification and thus the whole "scent of mating with lots of people". Who partook in sexual relations other than Pakkoyan isn't clear though. I don't think this was something that was decided for Vueko by the Ganja but something Vueko interpretated as part of "taking care" of people. Seeing what Vueko's childhood was like gives us an idea of how Vueko is so broken down as a person that she only thinks of her worth in terms of sexual gratification for others due to Juroimoh's abuse. This idea is further reinforced by her conversation about beauty with Belaf and how she speaks about her body as well as when she refers to Irumyuui's "supple" body as if to imply that's the only worth a young girl could have. That being said, I don't think Irumyuui's comment would make sense if she was talking about a lesbian relationship considering women can't impregnate each other and she was obsessed with the idea of motherhood. That's why I'm pretty sure for whatever reason Irumyuui understands the scent of heterosexual mating, likely due to her obsession with motherhood and her primitive upbringing. I will say that I'm pretty sure Pakkoyan saw Vueko romantically (she's jealous of the attention Vueko gives to Irumyuui and wishes for a small body like hers and the glances she throws at Vueko kind of make this clear) but the way Vueko never really laments about Pakkoyan the way she does about Irumyuui or even Belaf implies that their relationship isn't that deep. I'm not even sure if Vueko is capable of being in a romantic relationship due to her trauma. I don't think she has any understanding of what a real relationship is which is why she clings so desperately to any relationship she has when she makes one.

Everyone who undergoes a transformation via Irumyuui becomes the embodiment of their desires. I'm not sure what desires Belaf had that made him ultimately act that way towards Mitty but I think that once you become that way you become a slave to those desires and can no longer rationalize beyond them. Perhaps he desired to no longer empathize after the emotional devastation he endured when he was human? I don't know but my theory doesn't necessarily track with some scenes like when he cried upon the arrival of Riko, though I suppose that wasn't empathy but more a response to something "beautiful". That said it is explained by the interference units when describing the Cradle of Desire that adults are "motely" and "complex" and as such are "not suited for it." I think that using Irumyuui, a child, as an intermediary crystalizes the overly complex desires of the adults in a "low resolution" child's interpretation of them so their new bodies reflect that "low resolution" interpretation and these desires are then realized in a way akin to a monkey's paw wish. This is just a theory though. Something else worth noting is that I'm pretty sure the Vueko and the rest of the crew aren't as young as you're imagining them to be. The mangaka tends to draw everyone young looking with the exception of the elderly and some older people. Even Ozen had a chubby faced appearance but her giant status made it more obvious she was older. If you remember Torka, Riko's father, also looked really young. It's also implied that Leader, or Jiruo, is 20-something since he was probably 12-ish when Riko was given to him as a baby and 12 years have passed since then (Riko is 12) which probably means he's 24-ish. The interference units also call the Ganja adults. With all the information it's likely Vueko is 20-something as well in the flash backs. One more thing, the "babies" Irumyuui delivered all have a familiar appearance don't you think? They kind of look like a certain creature residing in a certain helmet. They all appeared "marked" by the bones of her little furry friend, including Faputa. She also delivered them from her stomach. I don't think she had a good conception of what babies looked like or the birthing process.
