to answer your question, yes there is a fairly common troupe when it comes to "strong" sibling love in anime. i remember it being common in shows that has the siblings caring or looking out for each other at a young age, when the parents ignore their kids, abandon them or the parents die at a young age. you can also find it in shows where the blood tie between them is at half siblings or step siblings.

To answer your question about the trope of siblings being overly attached to each other in anime / manga, yes that is a common trope. As to why it's a common thing, there are a couple of reasons. Firstly, Japan has a similar psychological phenomenon to the Oedipus complex, but for siblings. For some reason, culturally, it's common for men to look for partners who are similar to their sister and vice versa. Secondly, historically speaking, incest in Japanese culture was common place up until the end of WW2 when the West started making changes. In fact it's still legal in Japan to marry your cousin. So the concept of incest is not as foreign and far removed from modern Japanese culture as it is from Western culture, not enough time ahs passed for the stigma to be there. I mean it's not socially acceptable by any means to have relations with a sibling in Japan now, but there is still that romanticized element that exist in the literature / history. There are so many Japanese folk tales and famous books that revolve around marrying your sister or brother. So yea, definitely a cultural thing that can be off-putting, hope that helps!

Loid could easily kill Desmond without going through Operation Strix if that was all it took for peace, but he needs to get close to him so he can monitor what the East is doing. He might also be able to influence him into changing his goals and being more cooperative with the West.

Yes the trope kinda exists, there are a lot of characters with brother and sister complexes. You could react to the YouTube video called "Sister Leveling" if you want to see a humorous take on it.
