I think the thing with the claws was a bonemarrow extraction from his Mutant claws. Also one thing that bothers me in general in all these movies, what are people doing during these long travel times? Like why not tell Logan during the multiple hour drive that he will die instead of waiting in silence until he leaves the car. So many movies do this.
