DEVLOG - Viznity Games Desktop (Patreon)
Content
Dear patrons,
I have some great news to share with you. I am happy to announce that I am nearing the end of a long development process—one I’ve been working on quietly, often late into the night.
The Viznity Games desktop application will be launching in the coming days. Thanks to this app, Viznity Games will no longer be just a webpage; it will become your daily companion.
Let me tell you a bit about the launcher itself:
- You will be able to manage all Viznity Games titles—downloading, updating, and uninstalling them—from a single location.
- You can log in using your Patreon account and take advantage of Patreon-exclusive benefits.
- I am working on a unified update system covering all games; the games and the launcher will now communicate with each other. (What does this mean? Changes made in the launcher will synchronize when a game starts. For instance, if you log in via the launcher, you won't need to log in again inside the game. Or, if you enable the "Skip Intro" option in the launcher settings, the games will launch by skipping the intro sequence.)
- The launcher automatically checks for its own updates. This means you only need to download it once; it will notify you of new updates and update itself automatically.
- Pages included in the initial version of the app:
a) Home: A quick-launch menu for your games, featuring a large banner and a changelog.
b) Library: A detailed view of your games. It includes information such as installation status, version, release date, tags, the "Play" button, launch settings, file size, and system compatibility details.
c) News: You can view the latest updates here. (Currently, our news is published via Patreon.)
- You will receive a notification whenever there is an unread news item.- When you click on a news item, it displays the content directly within the app instead of redirecting you to a browser. You can also choose to open it in your browser by clicking the "View on Patreon" button.
- You can zoom in on the preview image of the news item to examine it in greater detail.
- KNOWN ISSUE: Posts exclusive to patrons currently appear locked, even if you are logged into your Patreon account. Once our Patreon integration is fully complete—in future updates—posts will automatically unlock directly within the launcher, provided you are logged in and meet the visibility requirements for the post.
d) Downloads: Active and past downloads are displayed here in detail. It notifies you of success or failure (including error messages). - You can cancel an active download from this section.- Includes tabs for All, Active, Completed, and Failed downloads.
e) Supporters: And of course, all of you! A page dedicated to expressing our endless gratitude to our supporters; everyone's names are listed here.
- It is organized into three categories: Active Patrons, Former Patrons, and Followers.
- Our top-supporting patrons are awarded Gold, Silver, or Bronze medals.
- Patrons' avatar images are displayed.
- It is synchronized with the "Supporters" page on our website.
f) Settings: Adjust various launcher settings here. Customize the experience to your liking.
Additional pages:a) App About:- View the application name, version, developer information, and legal details.
b) Error/Action Log:- A page we use to debug errors during app development. It will also help us analyze any errors that occur in the future.
For the curious: the app was built using cutting-edge technology and advanced engineering.
- Priority was given to open-source technologies. The tech stack includes React, Rust, Tailwind CSS, Supabase, and WebView. - It is extremely lightweight and optimized. Its application size and RAM footprint are just a few MB. It is as lightweight as a static website in a browser!- It offers multi-platform support for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
What do you think about the design? And do you plan to use the app once it's released? Please share your honest thoughts in the comments section.
Best regards,
~Viznity
