Patreon History Channel: Mother Goddess Parvati (Patreon)
Content
The best thing about this series of posts on art history is that we jump from one corner of the world to another. Crete, then Mexico, then Greece again, Egypt and now India. Here is the Mother Goddess Parvati, a deity associated with fertility. Since India is a large country, it is difficult to find concordant information about the mythology, since in each region the deities change names and even attributes. What does not change is that Parvati is associated with fertility, and one thing that amazed me is that here as in Potnia snakes return, always associated with fertility, in Crete as in India. After all, let's not forget that both civilizations have a common root, precisely, Indo-European. And by the way, one thing that we still carry with us today and demonstrates our Indo-European roots is to set very high body standards even for mother goddesses! In the second image is the statue of Parvati that I used as a reference for the drawing, dating back to 1400 A.D.time lapse video of the drawing process available here: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/j0ux7v03gh1pdaizhtme6/phc-parvati.mp4?rlkey=0snpdjem2f2g4uhg4yzhlg7e6&dl=0
