[Note from the future: Abby DM'd me about a year after this was released, and Abby goes by Aubrey now with They/Them pronouns, and liberal arts college is going well. They say they dont mind the name staying the same on this ep and I was "right about many things". So that's nice.]

It's a little weird to try to pick a "Abby On ____" title for this, bc Abby was pretty all over the place. A high school student in a rather manic state at time of calling, they were bouncing off the walls with passion and urgency and possibility.

We start with me hearing out their feelings about interdisciplinary multi-media artistic educational potentialities, then we veer off into God and abstract inspiration and silly meta observations about how we feel about the call that we are currently on.

Very dynamic entry to this series.

I'm so grateful for this conversation! It was awesome to meet you I have so many things to think about now lol.

ah Abby! Your 'I don't want to stop being provocative like that' is lovely and lovely and lovely. I'm very much up to the gills in (literary) academia, and so not sure if this is the sort of validation/community you're looking for, but I recognized a lot of what you were talking about at the beginning of this cut. This journal's new (and small) but they might be doing a bit of your 'art about write'?

This conversation was so fucking interesting. My professor is making us do a poetry unit right now so I’m gonna try doing art based off the poems and see if I can connect with the work in a different way

This one was so sweet and encouraging I loved it!

Good conversation. The overlap of human expressionisms/mediums is something that deserves way more attention

abby, i really really liked this!! i empathize strongly with your experience of having an overwhelming ambition that's not directly tied to a certain RESPONSE yet & i do wish you all the best with figuring out the actions you wanna follow through on + the ways your art is and will evolve as your focus narrows in. there are a few examples of multimedia art critics and analysts, all tied into philosophy and politics, that have existed in the world as art collectives and organisations in the real world that you might find interesting or helpful to look into! my personal favourite by far is the situationists international: a collection of surrealist french revolutionaries that took apart the idea of capitalism and space by interacting with objects and places through their art. if you've ever heard of "the society of the spectacle," that's from these guys. i'm mentioning it to you because their practice combined traditional painting with music and architecture and longform essays and poetry--artists of all stripe belonged to the SI, which definitely contributed to the fiery collapse they suffered and to which all leftist organisations are ultimately doomed. if you wanna read more, additionally to the SI's own publications/thesis, there's a great ya novel called "the ghost network" about the situationists (which got me into them when i was little!!) and the much more academic overview "the bench beneath the street" (which i finished last month!!), both of which i would recommend :D this got super long lol but really interesting talk!! thank you cj and thank you abby!!
