Three things I have adored recently:

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{[[[[[[[[[[[-----]]]]]]]]]]]}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

1. is the world getting worse - Savannah Brown [20:45]

sav stole several thoughts from my heart before I figured out the words to say them

i got to read the script and give some thoughts beforehand, then she mixed copious amounts of jet fuel into the final product that slapped my head in 360 degrees. treatise on hope and truth and the strangeness of being alive

2. I Am Once Again Asking You To Make Your Art Pro-Social [6:16]

I've been doing so much philosophy I haven't been holding down the revivifying art inspiration bastion! Thank goodness JrEg has been over there protecting the realm from myths of perfection and individualism!

& he has been a good new friend to me. What a beautiful meaningful emotional experience making a new friend. Esepcially someone with as much emotional damage as me hehe!

3. Jacob Collier on the Colin and Samir Podcast [2:27:46]

Like everyone who went to jazz school, I have strong feelings about Jacob Collier. Strongly positive! in my case. He's one of these people where subjectively I don't love every song of his, but I completely trust him and I am a longtime committed fan as an artist and thinker. Absolute epitome of On The Side of Art.

His new album is out and I like it a lot!!!

But I'm even more interested in the way he speaks about art and cultivates it in others. He has a beautiful way of thinking and feeling creativity and humanity, emphasizing all the right bits.

He even pierces this Trust vs. Engagement idea that I've been trying to find words for. I love the sections where he speaks on the depersonalizing, dismissive feeling of being called a "genius", his philosophical disagreements with Rick Rubin, and the unstoppable creative engine of not caring if you're "bad" or "special."

!!! I didn't know Jacob Collier was on Colin and Samir and I am so fucking locked in; he came up in my brain a lot in book club this week during the "what is a musical note" sections

Finding out your favorite YouTubers know eachother triggers so much parasocial community feeling I love it (looking forward to the inevitable collaborations 😊)

Look at you, building up the web ring :) Feeling heckin inspired by this space lately, even though I'm definitely behind on a lot of the Content and Activities. I'll catch up eventually - and am very glad to have much to catch up to!

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{[[[[[[[[[[[-----]]]]]]]]]]]}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} < this is very pleasing to look at and idk why

I remember enjoying Jacob Collier most when he was either covering someone else's song, or working closely with another artist to constrain his otherwise unbounded musical potential, will check out the latest album tho!

Such wonderful stuff, thanks so much for sharing! One of my favorite Patreon updates is from Game Maker's Toolkit where he shares a curated list of articles and videos. On the topic of artistic growth, I made a video a while back where compiled my learnings as an art teacher that some folx here might like. (Is it ok to share links of our own relevant work on here? I never know. If no, lemme know and I'll delete) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9qog6Pg-wo

If it makes you feel better about being off the revivifying art soapbox for a bit, your existing work (particularly the art sins video) combined with the recent KTI book club stuff has me getting hi-res scans of my paintings, new and old; and I’m working on creating a space online to act as a little musée de Cheyenne. I haven’t participated in this week’s book club yet because (in the words of Jason Mendoza from The Good Place) “there’s so much thoughts in my brain it’s like my head is full of rocks” but oh boy have I been reading; since finishing kill all normies I binged warbreaker by Brando sando and I’m 4/9 books into the outlander series (notable exchange from book 4: “nothing is lost sassenach, only changed” “that’s the first law of thermodynamics.” “No. That’s faith.” Ahhhhh so good, art is so good at reminding me that the part of me that loves mathematics is the same part of me that loves everything else I love)

I recently did a deep dive into Jacob colliers YouTube shorts after Griffin McElroy mentioned his arrangement of Bridge Over Troubled Waters on the podcast he does with his wife (Wonderful). The audience choirs made me cry. They are so beautiful not just in an auditory-aesthetically way, but in a "humans aren't all bad" way. Choir is one of the few things that always renews, not exactly a faith in humanity, but at least sense of "this is good actually and we made this". It gives me hope in a small way. It makes life feel worth living.
