Edit: I went back in and blurred the selection region, and got rid of the selection aliasing. It's still present within her coloring, but i want your opinions on this extra step to the method.

Don't want to lose another neckwarmer~

This was an experiment with coloring directly under the sketch.

I sketched at the old sketch res, blew it up to the full res, erased some of the construction lines and then just went to town coloring under it.

It's a little crusty, the whole thing took me like 1.5 hours? it's real fast.

What do you think? this is a possible way to speed up future comic production.

As a smaller image the linework looks fine, albeit a little fuzzy in places, but at full scale the difference in quality between jonah and daisy is kind of jarring. So maybe for comic pages it'd have a better use as they're smaller images overall? But as standalone piece it looks a little out of place, in my personal opinion!

In my opinion, daisy looks good, except for the parts where her body ends and the surrounding environment begins, like the edges. The linework itself is good, but there's some visible artifacting, especially around the gem on her head, as well as between her teeth and the high-detail inside of her mouth. But, it should be noted that I was actively trying to search for flaws and problems, for the sake of critique. Until I started looking closely, the problems didn't stick out to me, and at the smaller size the artifacting isn't visible at all even while looking for it.

The sense of scale is amazing here~

i very much enjoy simple fuzzy lines that are complemented by the colors, and i appove of finding ways to finish work without taking too many hours overworking your wrist. i think this looks great!~ <3

This would be my desktop background if I didn’t have a family who checks my shit XD

I imagine the buddies all get different types of fashion.~

rockninja3 .

the extra step was a big help. What do you do to prep the linework for this?

I really can't blame Daisy for drooling, Jonah looks fantastic in this pose! Ahem >.>; Can't really speak to art processes, though my observations on Daisy: viewed at full resolution the left image is cleaner around her borders while the almost thumbnail size presented by Patreon in the post is quite clean with negligible difference between the two. Considering I don't often view images at full screen resolution, this method seems perfectly fine to me!

It works well with Pelegice because the grey-blues blend with the whites of the aliasing. I think the method will start to fall apart with more vibrant colors and colored critters. Unless, maybe, the sketch background was changed to one matching the critter or intended background ahead of time, before pen even hits paper.

Seeing the results despite some of the quirks, it doe seem worthwhile to see if you can fine tune it. If it works out, big gain, and if it doesn't... well at least you tried!

Personally when I select on “fuzzy” lineart I shrink the selection by 1~2 pixels, because the fuzzy lineart being the semi transparent edge looks better than the hard aliasing, imo. But the blurring method certainly works as well!
