Adam Hošek: Hey Keith, how are you these days? How are you affected by the coronavirus situation? What are the preventive measures in your area? I know about the social distancing etc., but since I'm from Czech Republic in the middle of Europe, I'd like to know how's life these days in California. What's your opinion on how US/local government handles all of this?
To put things in a perspective a bit, our government declared a state of emergency on 12th March. Since then they put more and more restrictions, first closing schools, then limiting both commercial and private events of more than 100, 50 and in the end 10 people. The public pools and other sport venues and in the end closed almost all shops and restaurants except for groceries, pharmacy/drugstore, pet shops, post office and couple others considered as "basic needs". Restaurants can now only sell a take-away through a window. There's a limited time each day from 8-10 am when only the elderly can enter the stores that are still open. It is required everyone covers their nose and mouth with a mask or a scarf. People are basically allowed to go to work, buy groceries etc. and go straight home. It's allowed to go for a walk, but we need to keep distance from each other. It's not like a police office will stop you and ask where are you going, unless you don't cover your face, gather in a group etc.
We have very low numbers of infected and dead. It definitely helped the government declared these restrictions, but in a way it's similar as everywhere else – some people warned about the threat and authorities did nothing. Only when Italy went to hell... Also our prime minister definitely makes all of this his PR (most people here don't like him, he's an opportunist, typical capitalist).
So, how's all of that in the US and how do you think it will change us? I hope you, your friends and family are all safe and healthy.
