Announcement Regarding Doku's Health (Patreon)

We don’t like keeping you guys in the dark so we’re here to give you an update on what’s been going on with Doku’s health recently. If you hang out in the Discord server, you’ve probably already seen us talk about this during the past week.
Two weeks ago Doku started having some seriously bad hand pains that kept her from drawing. We assumed it was some carpal tunnel flare ups and let her rest her drawing hand, but as the days went by it didn’t get any better. The index finger on her drawing hand is swollen and has about 30% of it’s normal motion range. We’ve been back and forth between doctors but haven’t been able to get a clear diagnosis just yet, and we’re pending an MRI scan at the moment to try and get to the bottom of it. We’re not sure if this is related to the radiation treatment she had done last month but that possibility is there. Realistically, it’s something caused by overworking/drawing nonstop for too long.
What does this mean for Cappuccino’s development? Well, on Doku’s end, artwork creation is temporarily halted. I’ve been implementing the last few things Doku finished drawing earlier in the month, doing bug fixes and wrapping up everything else I can think of. There is still some work to do, but without new artwork I’ll eventually run out of things. The best I can do is continue to polish and make sure that the rest of the game is at 100% so that I can then just dive in and plug in artwork later.
The main things that are still pending on Doku’s side are about 4 CGs for the story, Cerise’s cut in cams, the sprite reworks and the new Inseminator toy. We did manage to get the other two toys finished before this happened, so there will be new things to see in the upcoming build!
We don’t want to leave development up in the air, so we’ve thought of a few potential workarounds, should Doku's recovery from this take too long:
Rather than drawing by hand, Doku can use the line tool and mouse to draw meanwhile. This will take longer and will look a little different than her usual drawings, but it will be some progress on development instead of none.
Doku can focus on the non art side of our next project or handle other administrative tasks using her good hand instead.
I may be able to put together cappuccino side stories that go into a character’s history but I’ll probably only do this if people are interested and if there really is nothing else to do with the main game. The idea here is to make some content that would be fun for supporters and still flesh out characters using existing portrait art.
Honestly, all that we ask for is some patience and understanding! We’re still going to do our best at everything we try but it’s obvious that we need to pace ourselves better. Thanks for sticking with us through thick and thin.
