Lore Deep Dive - Player Character! (Patreon)

The Player. The most important. The enigma!
Designing a player character is sometimes more difficult than any of the others. In Project Cappuccino we were able to get by with a faceless mystery character, but this time, a full design is necessary.
So who are these two characters? They are technically the same, just different body base for players to base themselves off of. As we demoed in the last build, clothing can be fully interchanged between any character that shares the same body base. So hair and clothes will not be limited to the masculine or feminine base.
However, NSFW scenes will take into account what’s in your pants and play out differently. Some NSFW scenes and character interactions may not be available for one and vice versa. This shouldn’t be too much of an issue though because we plan on incorporating a way of changing your character’s gender & appearance at some point in the game.
In the coming weeks, we’re going to be polishing up those rough sketches of them into their final ones. When that’s done, we’ll be able to properly see just what will be limited to the body base that a player decides to use. In general, we’re aiming to go with the mindset of “If you have a hole that matches, it matches.”
But what is their story?
Writing a self insert character means that we have to leave parts of their background as mysteries so it’s easier to put yourself in their shoes. This character was originally found at a young age by old man Tabu. They were alone in the forest and bleeding profusely out of their right arm, almost as if they had been savagely attacked. Without any family or idea about where this kid came from, Tabu decides to take you in and raise you alongside Yuba.
The Player’s arm wound appears to have some kind of magical properties, but you are constantly advised to keep it hidden under bandages due to how superstitious the kingdom is about Geist.
Is the Player a Geist? We can’t confirm that just yet due to how broad the concept of what a Geist is at the moment. Our intention for the arm wound is to have it allow the player to copy other character abilities via some kind of shape shifting. We’ll be working on this mechanic/concept soon as we head into the first battle of the game where Player canonically discovers their ability.
What's next?
The main limitation that we’ll need to cross next is what to do when it comes to animations. Animating has proven to be more difficult than expected, so if we want the player to copy abilities, we’re going to have to get creative.
That’s about all the info we have for the Player at the moment. The next Lore Deep dive will be about Reila and Hisaki, the pirate duo!
Have a great weekend!
