A demon in the bottle story… But gone wrong? (Patreon)

Hey, another tale to tell you, but this time, I am not sure how many of you are aware about this tale, you see, this tale is not that common in my place, but you could say the same for Issun-Boshi, it is actually not that well-known in my place as well, it’s a Japanese folktale after all, anyway, about this Demon in the bottle story… It went like this… A guy found a bottle with a small demon trapped inside, it asked the man to let it go so it can grant him a wish or something like that, when the man did so, the small demon suddenly grew big and turned on him, trying to eat him, but the man just asked the demon if he’s so big, how can he fit in the bottle, the demon shrunk and go back into bottle to show the man, the man sealed the bottle again, oopsie, not so smart demon, aren’t you? The rest is depending on the version you read, some version will have a continue part, like the man got a cool item from the demon when he let it go again as thank, the man just leaving the bottle there… Stuff like that… Okay! Simple stuff aside! Here’s my version of the tale!

In this story, this wolf guy found a small bottle with this shark guy inside, he about to call himself a demon but stopped and said he’s a nice fairy instead… Well, he got two horns, so… But before the shark demon fairy thing can even offer the guy that he’ll grant him a wish, which he never planning to do so, he planned to eat this man as soon as he opened up the bottle, but will he actually be buying that he’s a nice fairy sealed in a bottle, if this man is not buying that and leaving him here, he’s doom! But to his shock, the wolf just opened it there without much question, before the offer to grant a wish even being say, what the hack!? Are you out of your mind!? Didn’t know it will be that easy! …Well, work for me, I guess?

The demon quickly grew into a giant size upon being released, it laughed like a madman, finally, fresh air! Free! Free at last! And since he has been sealed in that dang bottle for like… How long again, 3000 years? You know what happened to you when you waiting that long? You getting hungry! And what can fill your belly other than a foolish mortal who opened the bottle without thinking what will happen to him? Well, you heard me, you little fool, time for me to eat and fill this 3000 years hungry belly! Down to the hatch!!! …Or not?

The whole time, the demon shark was expecting the wolf guy to cry, to try to run, to scream, saying stuff like, you promised to grant me a wish, not like this!!! Or something like that, but this guy just… Smiling, like he was expecting this from the start… Wait, don’t tell me he really looking forward to this? He can’t help but asked the man if he’ll ever going to scream or what? The man however, just told the shark he is granting him a wish here, yup, he wanted to be eaten by a big cute shark demon! Go on! Swallow me whole!

This kind of turned the demon shark away, he decided that he’s too good for putting up with this little freak, instead of eating him like the original plan, he put this little one into the bottle, sealed it up, just like when it happened to him, and then leaving him there while he went out, looking for the better thing to eat… Come to think about it, there’s one version of the demon in the bottle where in the end, unlike normal happy ending versions, the guy who free the demon ended up in a bottle, I think it’s a Japanese anime version but got international release later, people didn’t know it originally from Japan… Oh well, bad ending is not so bad sometimes…
