So, apparently fanfic has been down for nearly 24 hours and I didn't know it was a site issue until just now. This isn't the first time, and it probably won't be the last. As such, I will be taking time over the next few days away from editing a scene from DA (Don't ask, Tomon spotted a major issue and like the bro he is, sent me an email on it right away) and working on Effect  to work on creating fanfic specific collections and backups here. I will also work - if very slowly - on posting more of my fics to A03.

I will at this point ask for two things:

If anyone has downloaded the full versions of my stories, and if so, would you be willing to upload them so I can get at them? I know for Fate, for example, there are several chapters with edits made after uploading them and I made those changes in the already uploaded version of the file.

And two, please, someone help me figure out how to add colors to my text on A03? If I'm going to upload the rest of Bhaalson there, I want to make it worth it.

That's al for now folks. Have a happy Friday.

FFN isn’t fully down. The website is down but you can access it via the mobile app and download it that way.

Arkos Sloth

There's an FFN mobile app?

HornsOfTheseus

Yes. It’s pretty okay as an app but of course it has no tabs which is kinda mid.

Delphinous

it's real frustrating. i definitely prefer FF.net over AO3 beucase it's easier for me to sort through and find what i'm looking for, but i agree the problems it's having are very annoying. good luck with the uploading, diversification is always a good idea

AO3 can be programmed using html tags. They can be used to arrange text and even colour it through css. If you are planning to only colour certain parts of the text, such as that which has been labelled as a heading or in bold, you can use a tag. I'm actually not too sure how css works on AO3, but for arranging the text, and css, you need basic knowledge of html first. https://www.w3schools.com/html/html_css.asp https://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_style.asp W3Schools can also help you with learning about the other tags, which will let you know how to create things like lists, tables, or inserting images.

Xander1994

Oh thank god I thought I was the only one having problems getting on fanfiction.

Coleman

Yeah. I downloaded the app a few years back for situations like this. At least it proves they have a backup server.

HornsOfTheseus

No the server didn’t actually go down. What happened is their DNS expired (you can think of it as their license to be an accessible website sort of) and they have to buy a new one.

NerdLord2nd

Yup just search app store for fanfiction.net for some reason app is far more stable then the site

JbstormburstADV

Yes, the app is great, and it can preserve stories that get deleted from the site, but getting stuff directly migrated off the device is one thing I desperately wish for.

Bub3loka

I suggest using questionable questioning to be honest. It has a lot of features, and you never need to worry about censoring your words

MGSaintz

The problem with FF.net is that their DNS server isn't pointing to the site properly you can fix this by editing the host file and add 104.18.19.242 www.fanfiction.net

HP-DG-AP-PN-RG-NR

Honestly, the problem is on and off for me for the last day. At work, it wasn't working. At home, it'll work, then not work a couple of times, and then it comes back again no problems.

UHDNRT

It is technically 3rd party but yes, there is a fanfiction.net app (I believe teh devloperis fictionpress)

vimesenthusiast

Yeah, I use it occasionally. Haven't used it for my own fics though LOL.

MacArther

Wait, it's down for others? My link to my profile page (as viewed by guests / outsiders etc) still works. This is as of 12:49PM in TX. FFN, please, fix your s*** on a timely basis or baring that post something to the social media accounts to let people know things are going wrong site wide. EDIT: Correction, the main links between different categories (i.e. movies, books, anime etc) and the subcategories (i.e. Bleach, Star Trek, Tom Clancy, etc) and the sorting / filter work...but clicking on a story line gives the DNS error.

BlainX

That's not one I used before. How is it content wise? I read on FFN, AO3, SB, SV and RR

Bub3loka

It's a forum style similar to SV and SB but the mods are a whole lot more lax. There's an entire section for NSFW and no, it's not all smut but more like, you can write what you want without worry about mods going all woke or Nazi on your ass

Aragorn93

I wasn't aware it was down. I also use the app and don't go to the site anymore.

MacArther

Well, at this point it is fully down for me. Also, the profile I could view is the non-interactive one that random people looking up my name would see. So, I'm pretty sure if I had attempted to change settings it would have been borked there too.

Lilly O'Connor

I do have an archive of your stories from ffnet which I can upload if necessary, although the latest snapshot is from May 17.

Ranma_Leopard

I hear you. I generally use nowadays just to see updates. I usually relied on the email alerts for updates

Karnath

ff.net is back up.

vimesenthusiast

Nice. Thanks for letting me know I will start downloading specific chapters tomorrow
