WARNING!!! Don't read this post if you haven't read the latest chapter:

So, I sort or realized going into it that not killing off Riser would raise some hackles and get some negative comments.  However I've been astonished and somewhat appalled by the amount of vitriol I've seen in several reviews that mentioned it.  I was wondering why everyone was reacting like that.  Is it so 'out of character' or 'appallingly soft-hearted' after what Riser tried, that Harry didn't kill Riser as he set out to?  Especially when you consider that doing so he would have killed Riser in front of his parents, older brother, and younger sister, who loved the asshole?  Am I just wrong here?

the hatred for how I'm treating Akeno is also ongoing.  I would like to know if people still like her character and the way I'm portraying her as well, and the idea of her and Tonks getting together, if only for a short time, which I hinted at in this last chapter.

I am also asking any of you who know anything about the Tuath De Denaan - the Irish pantheon to pm me.  I have some questions I need to figure out going forward, and talking to people who have already researched them or even come from Ireland would be better than just researching what can be found online.

EDIT 1/2 at 4:38:   I have to apologize to all my readers.  I had made changes to the version of the chapter Michael had seen then combined that version with the version that Nad Destroyer, who I use for overall feel and character interpretation.  When I erased several of his comments from the last section, and before that, I erased those changes as well.  I can only plead time and tiredness making me miss that.  Here are the major changes:

"Ravel however bypassed Sirzechs entirely.  She moved directly to Ranma and curtsied deeply, actually going down on one knee as she did. "Please sir, i know my brother has, has acted in a way that brings dishonor on hi and my family, but, but he is my brother!!  Please, punish him yes, but do not kill him like this."

This and the sight of Riser's parents pleading made Harry's ire cool somewhat, and he looked around.  His daughters were there, and while Lily's teeth were bared, Asia's were clamped in front of her, praying.  And if Harry knew his newest daughter she was praying for them both, despite Riser's recent act of insanity. Sighing, Harry shook his head.  "We'll see."  was all he said, before turning away."

"Harry had demanded this fight with the intent of killing Riser quickly and as overwhelmingly as possible. But Ravel's plea and the eyes of his daughter on him weighed heavily on Harry, and now looking at the panicked, fearful expression Riser wore, he couldn't do it."

GAH!!! I think I need to freaking cut off chapters now at, say the 50,000 word mark, regardless of leaving cliffhangers.

I believe that scaring the dumb out of Riser with a sword of Damocles hanging over him definitely fits a matured Harry who is a teacher and a parent. Riser's parents have seen the light and his brother will now have assistance in kicking the stupid out of him, although it would be nice to never see him again as he is a thoroughly unlikable character.

Berix

I was a bit irritated at the sparing of Riser as I read it, but I thought a bit more and like the choice. Might have to reread the chapter, but didn't Riser also kill like 2 other people alongside Yubellena that didn't get revived? If so, everyone is taking that awfully calmly. Also, Teddy/Koneko pairing is my jam now.

Jeffrey Rubin

Regarding Riser: I’ll admit to being surprised that he lived but can understand why he was spared. I do however think the punishment wasn’t enough, losing his peerage and being barred from gaining another seems like a slap on the wrist. Regarding Akeno: At this point in Harry’s romantic life it seems to be a necessity to want to be a mother in some regard. Rias is a prime example with yasaka being another. If you wanted to change Akeno’s character to fit that I think it would take an entire rewrite of nearly every interaction she has with lily. In the end this is your story and I’ll read whichever way you take it

Caerival

I'm not entirely sure where the massive hate for Riser is coming from. Yes he was a dick and even worse than canon, but after what he pulled after the rating game, death would be too quick. The way I see it is that he is due for some major attitude adjustment from his parents and siblings that will make him wish that Harry had finished him off. As for Akeno, her character has grown organically over the course of the story and as it is now she is a poor fit for the harem that Harry seems to have growing around him.

FitzThrawn

I've got no complaints about how to handled the Riser situation. While I think his death would not have been unexpected, your Harry is a teacher, and leaving Riser alive as a broken, shamed but still alive to trot out as needed example of both why not to fuck with Harry and to reinforce why treating your peerage so poorly is a bad idea will be more of a learning experience for the Devils then if he'd just extinguished him. Completely defeated, but able to learn from his staggering, disgusting failure as a King will send a better message than instant death. Two strokes and your out... though if Risers final action had been against Lilly or Rias, well death would have too good for him... In regards to Akeno, I think the track of her and kinky Tonks worked quite well.

Zoma

Bit of a mixed opinion on it. I want Riser dead, but I understand not having what is a basically a foreigner execute him in front of his family. That said, it pissed me off that he could try to kill his peerage, succeed in killing some, and pretty much legally get away with it because they were technically still his peerage at the time. If I bet something, lose the bet, and then attempt to destroy it instead of handing it over, I'm fairly certain it counts as destroying someone else's property. His peerage should have been legally considered under Gremory protection the moment Riser officially lost.

Zoma

Also, I'm fine with how Akeno's character has gone.

schpariel

Yeah, I think leaving Riser alive is pretty out of character. This Harry has killed mooks off for lesser offenses already, and I don't see him as someone who would leave a potential threat alive when they have already killed innocents. It doesn't make sense, this Harry has already seen what the umpteen-chances-at-redemption path looks like and suffered for it. Riser murdering his own peerage in cold blood to deny them an escape is exactly the kind of thing that Harry would kill someone for without a second thought. As for the political aspect, compare the treatment of Riser to the treatment of Diodora, and consider that Diodora is better connected (brother to a Maou) and heir to his house, while Riser is just the third son of an ally of the Gremory family. It just doesn't fit.

Aaron Hardin

I am fine with how Raiser was handled, as politically, killing Riser would be foolish, and the way he was left alive fits with Harry’s personality. Akeno is acting similar to how she was in cannon, as she along with most of Rias’s peerage are traumatized in some way, which translates into how she can be a little childish in needing to be the center of attention. She has yet to work through any of the father issues she has, and given her canon proclivities she is acting completely in character. Of course, you have Rias acting out of character compared to canon, but given how shallow her character generally was in cannon that is a good thing.

shashank narayanan

I am fine with how riser was handled. Makes no sense to kill and kick up a storm when , hummiliation and political brownie points can be gained while fulfilling the objectives with a beat down followed by offering mercy.

Netveiwer

I actually loke how you are creating Akeno. She reads more natural now, as long you dont have her getting together with Issie I am fine. Raiser I wish he was cursed someway to ensure he could not become a problem down the road but over all I had no problem with your handling of him.

Novus

It is, I think, only slightly out of character for this version of Harry. I'd call it out of character that little bit because of 1) the way this Harry regards children. Riser attempted to murder two pawns young enough to be children to Harry, right in front of him (after already doing worse to them in the past). 2) He frankly hasn't shown anything resembling restraint when fighting in his we're form. He's a lot more brtual and ruthless than cannon Harry once he actually decides to fight at all. Making him pulling back right at the end seem a bit off.

Novus

...oops, didn't mean to post that yet. I was going to add: I think, however, that this is a case where your readers are reacting badly because of their OWN emotions, not Harry's. They (me too) want Riser very dead because you've so successfully made us hate him. Because you've managed to engage your readers emotions...they are upset that he's getting a second chance he frankly doesn't deserve. Calling it out of character for Harry is just a way to argue for his death.

Dark epyon

The issue with Akeno is she’s trying to find herself and what she wants in life but she’s very conflicted it isn’t really hate on Akeno she’s growing as a character I kinda still see her ending up with Harry or hell maybe she’ll give Tonks a spin she’s just not ready to settle down at this point.

Regarding Riser: I am surprised that Harry spared him. Very surprised. Especially considering that at least one girl died possibly two depending on if Karlamine ends up surviving or not as well (the dialogue is vague and can be taken either way since it's mentioned there's only one death yet implies she's killed along with Siri). Considering how Harry sees Riser, what he knows of the treatment of the women under the man, and your version of Harry's rather 'extreme' reactions towards threats; it was very surprising that he didn't end up following through with finishing Riser off. Fear of Demigod has already been proven to not be sufficient to change people's ways. Harry has direct experience with that from back in England. This didn't strike me a sufficiently in character for him to be honest. I'll be writing up a full review though once I have a chance to go through the entire chapter in complete detail so I can probably be a bit more coherent later on that regard. Akeno: This is one of the parts I mostly skimmed in order to reach the Riser section faster so will comment more later. Tuatha Dé Danann: I have a bit of a familiarity with them due to wiki dives since they feature fairly heavily in some of favorite series so I can try to help if you'd like. I'll send you a note on fanfic. Let me know if you need my email as well.

Slider

Also side note, please don't kill Karlamine when she can finally get free since she was one of the ones that wanted out almost more than Yubelluna! Like I said, the current dialogue is vague enough that she can already have survived just have been badly hurt so Harry doesn't even need to resurrect her like he was basically doing to Yubelluna.

Dark epyon

lol didn’t realize hitting enter would post my comment so that’s why I posted twice and I don’t think Harry would have killed riser for 2 reasons 1 his family was there but I don’t think that would have stayed his hand 2 the main reason though which I find hilarious that people are complaining so loudly about is he would NEVER have killed him in front of Lily and Konou it wouldn’t of happened he would never do that act in front of his daughter’s😉 if he had control of the situation and in the whole situation he had complete control or at least that my take on it

Nobody

I didn't see any problem with the way you handled anything in that chapter. Sparing him in that situation definitely does seem like something Harry would do. No one wants to see a loved one die right in front of them when they are powerless to stop it. Not seeing why you are getting hate about it, unless people are just looking to see Fried Chicken die without regard to the situation it occurs in. Thought the direction you hinted at with regard to Akeno and Tonks was a good one. Seems like they would be good for each other, even if only for a time. I also see no problem with how you are portraying Akeno now. She is one of my favorite pairing options but you handled the whole thing so well that I like it better the way it has turned out.

Karnath

Harry is a father, not killing a stupid, arrogant, and most of all beaten brat in front of his parents strikes me as something he would do.

blandusername

No problems with the chapter, I liked that Harry spared Riser as it showed a more mature appreciation of the situation and the long term consequences that his actions might bring, given the audience. While it might be more personally/viscerally satisfying to execute Riser in hot blood, there is a tendency for all readers to assume the actions that will bring the best outcomes long-term should align with what they want to do in any given moment, which seems to be showing off how awesome and powerful Harry is by killing Riser in front of everyone else. Assuming Riser doesn't change his stripes and show genuine remorse, Harry is capable of quietly handling the situation in a year or two, once he knows the details of devil magic and society, without needing an audience to show off for - better if Riser just disappears quietly one night after publicly pissing off a few other people to add some deniability. As for Akeno, I think how you're writing her feels much more natural now, and I like the way things are shaping up between her and Tonks, who will likely provide a more mature outlook that Akeno can consider for how she conducts and controls herself and her desires.

UrpsychoEX

Update: I have reviewed the chapter on Fanfiction and holy crap is it a monster... I'm ambivalent towards Riser dying. I want to go with you in that I think Harry would not want to, basically, execute Riser in front of Kunou, Asia, and Lily. At the same time this is a 'man' who clearly murdered two women for a failure on his part, in keeping his mouth shut, and only through the grace of a pairing decision not a third woman. To be completely honest I am more upset that you killed his Knights than spared Riser and would completely agree with sparing him had you saved them as well as Yubelluna. To be clear I think Harry would have been doing his damnedest to save all three. He is a demi-god in name only. He has the power of a full fledged god of a Pantheon older than Christianity within him and it is only the fact that is body is still somewhat mortal that he has not yet become a full god. As an edit I wish to add that honestly I was surprised that Harry didn't use Imperio to force him to confess what he's done. It would be a show of power to the Devils and at the same time a shock as they saw him bend Riser's soul to his will. and I will also admit you did not state that both Knights are dead but... honestly you wrote it in such a way (including not clarifying afterwards) that I believe them both to be dead with Siri, I think, being a clear kill according to the wording of the sentence. I am perfectly fine with how you've been portraying Akeno. My biggest problem with Highschool DxD was in how EVERY woman that Issei got his hands on became his with no problem. I am fine with multi-pairings and even see them as inevitable in some cases. Some people just have large hearts and don't want to hurt others, nothing wrong with it. Unless you become the next Megamatt you'll never hear a word against you for pairings from me. A couple? Totally cool and acceptable. A trio? More? Same sex? Opposite sex? Interracial or species (i.e. Mass Effect/Star Trek/Star Wars etc)? No problem at all. Back to the point, I find the evolution of Harry and Akeno's relationship a natural and healthy move. Akeno is not ready to be a mother (which is a little presumptive but she IS a teenager) and Harry is not comfortable with her kinks and games. That is NORMAL and HEALTHY to disagree with someone and not force themselves to be with one another. Had you done it another way it might have marred the growth of the two characters as the story goes. The idea of Tonks and Akeno is a bit (very small bit) rushed but they've only flirted a bit and even that isn't outside of their characters in the source material. As to the Tuath De Denaan I'll ask my family and do some research for you. My mother is full Irish and was raised over there with her siblings. I've spent time there and could always ask their opinion on questions you have. They all have various different outlooks on life and I'm sure a few know about the pantheon. I'll get back to you on that if you want to send me questions to research or pass on. I'll be on deployment later in the year and will have quite a bit of free time.

vimesenthusiast

Who else has Harry killed for lesser offenses? You’re also forgetting the whole ‘in front of his family’ part of the equation. If Riser had succeeded in killing the youngsters amongst his peerage or even attempted to attack Harry’s family he would be dead but he didn’t and again, the whole family being there thing. As for the Astaroth comment - it was mentioned in the chapter that the family was busy scrambling to protect itself because some of his dealings with the Khaos brigade had come out- beyond glares and demanding monetary compensation they are in no position to do anything more.

Stephen Perrone

I think Harry just slapping Riser around a bit and then letting him go after he murdered Rias's new people is really out of character. Something new and permanent must be done about it, in front of the devil observers by Harry, or he just comes off as weak, and wishy-washy. Permanently binding Riser's magic, removing his regeneration, just something.

Matthew Hunter

It would have been in character for Harry to kill him if he had done it in the first or second move of the fight. I feel you did it correctly when he realized that he was basically playing with him and decided at that point it would be wrong. That at that point it would be someone who hopelessly out classed Riser torturing him for no real reason/gain. If there had been others in the crowd who had been suggesting that Riser was correct to do what he did, or suggesting finishing off his former peerage, then I could see your Harry killing him as a "OK... who wants to try it next?" However with Riser's parents and siblings present I feel Harry's reaction was spot on. Instant death would have been punishment, slow death after humiliation would have served no point. Plus Harry is smart enough/politically experienced enough at this point in the story to understand the problems that would/could have come up from killing the child of one of the pillar families.

Matthew Hunter

I felt the evolution/ending of Harry and Akeno was spot on. I flowed from who they are as people in your story. Harry made it clear that he is not willing to have a purely physical relationship, and Akeno is not ready for anything but that just yet. Her being willing to flirt with Tonks and vice versa felt right. You established Tonks as looking for fun at the moment very well with her trip to the beach. That seems like a good match for Akeno at the moment. Could it grow from there? Sure! But I fell like they would be doing friends with really hot benefits for a while before that.

schpariel

Heracles and Jeanne and the Tengu from chapter 4 were only guilty of kidnapping and attacking Harry at the time Harry killed Jeanne, while Riser had *actually murdered three people*. I also thought there was a conflict between Harry and either the Himejima or Shinra, but I can't find it right now. I may have mixed them in my head with Freed's mooks. I guess the main complaint I have is that the Riser fight felt too much like Harry was playing around. Every other real fight so far has been a simple, brutal execution. Jeanne - block sword, blow off her head. He outright kills Freed's minions and only leaves Freed alive for interrogation. Diodora, full press attack until he slipped up then stabbed through the heart. Then Riser, he tries Incarcerous, beats him around a bit, falls into the shounen "explain to the enemy why their attack doesn't work" trope, then lets him off with a "go tell your parents how you have been a bad boy" and no other penalty? I mean, I'm obviously in the minority opinion here, but it just doesn't feel right for this Harry to have that mild a reaction to a man who intended to enslave someone he cares for killing three people right in front of him (one of which he cared enough about to revive, and the other two of which were about the same apparent age as his students) with no other consequences. I was very surprised that the fight didn't end with Harry running him through right from the start, that would have felt more in character. Sure, I can see his family being present changing things if he was fully rational, but it doesn't seem to me he would be in the right state of mind to take that into account. I'd previously mentioned the political aspect, but that was more in reaction to some of the other comments about how politically astute letting Riser off the hook was; this Harry doesn't seem particularly political, so I don't see that even entering his mind. How you wrote it isn't bad, and I have no problems with you leaving it that way, but I still maintain that it doesn't feel like the actions of the Harry you have written up until now. It may fit better for the story you are trying to write. I can just see where the negative reaction is coming from, even if you ignore the people who just hate him.

DuckPond

In the context of the chapter, I believe you handled Riser correctly. Harry demonstrated strength, but allowed Sirchezs to be the final arbiter of his punishment. This is not like many fanfics, where authors will find some BS reason to allow Freed to live so that they can follow canon for the story. As for Akeno, I still think you handled it correctly. A teenager normally would not want to become a step-mother no matter how horny she felt for a guy. You realistically handled that plot arc. I definitely prefer this story over some xovers where every female for some reason falls in love with the MC. Greatly looking forward to the next update of this story. Of the stories that you're currently writing, this is the one I'm enjoying the most.

noman09

Well I was going to have a longer response, but after rereading your message again I'll just say I 100% agree.

Canadian Tick

I didn't feel not killing Riser was out of character - doing so would have had HUGE political repercussions as a human killing off the son of one of the Pillar clans. However, you might have wanted to make Harry's thoughts on the matter more clear. I also can't remember where Lily was during his duel, but he could have not wanted his daughter to watch him kill someone. However, I could see some people thinking it some variation of "Heroes don't murder people" type of thing.

frank schellingerhout

not killing Riser is fine harry in his heart is a kind man and his daughter was there to dont think she would have liked she daddy dead kill someone

Elderlucian

I don't think Harry sparing Riser was out of character but you could have extrapolated why he was doing it beyond it feeling like murder. That was the only part that, looking back, feels ooc. This Harry doesn't feel like the kind of person to shy away from killing just because it's so easy it feels like murder. I'm fine with Akeno's character. So I'm part of the group that picks what to read of yours based on only half of the crossover. For example, I don't read your Ranma stories because of Ranma but the universe he is in like RWBY or Star Wars or Mass Effect. I have actually never seen or read Ranma 1/2 but your writing is so good that doesn't matter. I say this because I have also never seen or read DxD but I love Harry Potter which is why I'm reading FILFy. So I have no canon context for Akeno to understand the hate for her, if that's even where it is coming from. I'm fine with Tonks and Akeno getting together be it for just a short time or even a more permanent relationship. My only concern, and I have said similar to you on FFN, is that to me a crossover with a melding of the worlds like this is rare and that others I have seen like it tend to ignore the Harry Potter characters as options to pair with Harry. Seeing as how Tonks is the only HP character available I would prefer if she joins Harry's harem.

Alex McGregor

While I have not read this chapter for obvious reasons, I'm still displeased with the way you have portrayed Akeno, she's many things Jealous and Shallow like you portrayed her is not one of them, but, you didn't want to keep her as part of the group, as out of character for her as that may be, and your the writer so it's your call I Do think Killing Raiser in the situation you describe, in front of his parents, brother and sister however would have been out of character for Harry, as he's many things but someone who executes people in front of there family is not one of them to me anyway /shrug

Alexander Timm

I don't know what people are complaing about. I like the chapter and how you dealt with Riser and Akeno. While it is nice that you ask for your readers opinion just keep writing it as YOU want it to go that should ensure that your motivation for the Story is kept high and give us the good quality we have come to expect from you.

Durin

Personally I think that both killing Raiser and not killing him would have been in character for Harry as you have written him, in the circumstances you portrayed. If Harry's children had not been in the audience along with Raiser's siblings, who came off rather sympathetically it would have been a different matter.

Rania

I cannot fathom why you are getting hate for Akeno. I felt that was handled quite well and helped to define who she is as a character, giving her a greater understanding of who she is as a person. This makes every further scene involving her more interesting as a result. I think the big issue with your Riser induced hate was in not explaining more of Harry's thoughts when he decided to spare Riser. To me, at the moment Harry noticed Risers fear, that spoke of someone who has never had to face the consequences of their actions. Someone who has coasted through life, never having to think beyond the now. Finally realizing that yes, actions do have consequences, someone willing to end him for those actions, and there is nothing he can do to stop it. Even the moment where he attacked his peerage hinted at that thought process, an incredibly callous and immature "If I can't have my toys then neither can you." The punishment Harry detailed to Riser came across as deceptively soft as well. Kill two, nearly three people and you have to tell your family some embarrassing things? A restriction on who you can invite into your peerage and when you are able to start building it again? Big deal right? But it doesn't take into account the very real fear Riser was feeling, likely for the first time in his life. It doesn't account for the power that was implied Riser felt coming from Harry, enough to make some of the most powerful devils in the world sit up and take notice. The promise that this spectre of death would come back to finish the job if Riser doesn't do exactly as demanded. Personally I felt the chapter was well done. Given your other works you likely already have something planned to show how terrified Riser is of Harry, possibly even in the next chapter. Honestly, my biggest complaint for this chapter was Tonks. Once she reached Japan she started to fade into the background, not helped by deciding to make a huge life altering decision to join a peerage in two short paragraphs. Everything that lead up to Japan was fairly good, but afterwards she just felt half forgotten to me.

Sion

I'm more concerned about Sirzechs not killing him than Harry not doing it. This is one of the Maous basically saying that murdering someone under his protection will cost you a beating. At least I think the match/viewing area rules was enforced by him/the other maous.

Tomon

Heh, I already answered both of the points in my review to some extent as I wanted to finish the review before reading your further question(s). But I think that the issue with Riser comes from the fact that majority of people truly want him dead and suddenly being soft seemed to come out of nowhere given that there just wasn't any time for Harry to cool off. This Harry may be a teacher and a good person, but he is also someone who uses Imperio without any issue regardless of how even devils are terrified about the effect it has on the soul. So while I don't have an issue with Riser living, there was something missing I fear. Either go with a route that "Dead would be too quick for you, you will live, suffer and be forced to learn what poor excuse of being you are and even afterwards won't be allowed to have the current comforts" or by some personal plea to give him chance that would affect Harry enough that he wouldn't go through it. Not just out of blue suddenly recognizing the fact that his family is watching... The end seemed to me a little too much speed up which may be due to the chapter already considerable length :) Akeno. Well as far as I know a lot of people look for stories based on pairings. So some may be literally butthurt that you removed on of the main two as they probably consider it. You know I fought for Akeno to remain with Harry, but it would have to start sooner and with not forcing her into the 100% S&M mistress who needs it and is not able to change or mature enough. I don't even think not being a mother figure is any kind of issue, but she could of course not be jealous about the time Harry spent with his family. But you portrayed Akeno as you see her and our views differ. And this version is just not suitable for Harry you introduced in this tale. So the breakup itself was for me well done and logical conclusion. The only issue I currently have is that she is both perfectly fine with her single status and current situation, but still overly musing about these fact. It should be one or the other I think :)

Michael Grover

I feel you did it well on both over all. Even the Tonks part was fine. It fit the character you had set up for her. The Riser thing... I feel you did it well. Sad 2 died but it also to me balanced the scales on others who died in cannon but have lived here. Not saying it needs a 1:1 ratio but have some die who lived before does fit. Riser not being killed is easy to understand since like others pointed out his kids were watching. Now Akeno. I feel you are also doing fine. She has alot of stuff going on in her head. Plus i agree harry would not be into pain play. So keep on track.

Tomon

Want to highlight the Riser summary. Really well written and exactly nailed this problem.

Tomon

Maybe if there was some more explanation on how Harry managed to calm himself, or just saw both his family (especially daughters) and Riser family in the audience which would made him pause enough to decide to spare Riser life?

Tolkair

I felt that you made the correct choice with sparing Riser. Though I believe that how he acted within your story added fuel to the fire on an already hated persona to have them want him killed off

Tersin

The Riser thing doesn't overly bother me. Would I have rather seen him dead? Yes. He seems like a text book example of somebody who's going to keep coming back and trying again for as many chances as you give him. I can however see Harry giving less Riser, and more his family a chance to keep that from happening. Now if Riser shows up trying to kill or kidnap people again (as I have no doubt he will) and Harry spares him, then I start having issues. You give people second chances, but only a second. No third or fourth. Akeno has never been one of my favorite characters, mostly for her personality. She's not the kind of person of person I would want to spend time around even on a page. So how your presenting her doesn't put me off any more than normal. I also don't have an issue with her and Tonks hooking up for a brief time, as long as it is a brief thing. Mostly because as much as Tonks may like a bit of pain, Akeno likes a LOT of it. She gets off on torturing people to death. That seems like it would strike a bit too close to home for Tonks for reasons already pointed out. Also I can't see Tonks making a good sub, which seems to be what Keno really wants. Not so much because Tonks is a Dom but because she's so capriciously independent that I can't see her putting up with somebody controlling her at all for very long. Especially since Akeno doesn't seem to want to limit her control of her partner to just the bedroom.

Curtis

Did not see a problem with the chapter. Thanks again for writing a fun story.

Kevin (Nevu)

So, I don't have an issue per se with it. The problem is that he's written in this story in a way that most would charitably call unredeemable (a murdering rapist who coerces people into slavery, with hints of pedophilia). When a character is left to live in a story, it's usually a sign that they will re-appear in some fashion (I don't get that sense here, but I can understand why people do - it's a common thing in the dxd fandom for Riser to become slightly better later on). The issue is that there's no real room for a redemption arc here, but it does seem to have left the room open for one in the way it's written, and that is something even I would dislike. The other alternative, that he comes back as an antagonist again, would likely also be irritating to people. The mercy does seem a little out of character, but it shouldn't have any effect on the story and it is hard to really know since we don't have the full war story, but when Harry has a falling out with Dumbledore, being too merciful is a really common trope. ps : Patreon's comment system is awful to type comments in.

Man From the Land of Sand

I apologize if I over reacted in my review. I read the version that was up around 10 minutes after it was posted. The edited version makes all the difference.

Just read the chapter, really see no problem how you handled Akeno or Raiser. This Akeno just doesn't mesh well with this Harry so they broke up, nothing wrong with that. As for Raiser... yea I want him dead, but there was children there. They're probably already traumatized by the deaths, I don't think Harry an a right state of mind would kill Raiser right there. On a side note, your rewrite has Ravel begging Ranma instead of Harry. Funny typo.

Razgriz0x

First- I'd go edit that blurb back into the story pronto and re-upload it with a quickness. Second- Having now read that, the mercy towards Riser makes a lot more sense and flows better. I actually like the decision to not kill him. I, like many I'm sure, wanted to see Riser get his comeuppance... in most cases this would be at the cost of his life... however, seeing him have to live with the choices he's made and having his true self revealed to all? That smacks of Justice. While Harry could very well and easily have killed him, living is the only way to make someone suffer. Death is an end, and too good for those like Riser... at least as a punishment. Third- The Akeno hate... more than likely stems from those who wish to see Harry with as many girls as possible... it's just those who are mad that their waifu didn't make the cut and thus are not willing to accept that you are the Lord High Author and that it's you who write this and that their opinion ultimately means little to the story. My advice is ignore the outright, indignant hate and only listen to criticism that shows intelligence and logic. Fourth- Tonks/Akeno is awesome, even if its only short-term... and I'm sure that there are those out there that will soon become mad that Harry doesn't eventually boink Tonks as well... in which case they should just go read Mega matt 09.... bunch o'perverts. Last- I'm hoping (and if it doesn't happen fine) that the restoration/blessing of Yubelluna had the unknown side-effect of restoring her 'maiden' status? Lol... honestly... could you imagine if/when they get together the first time... it would once again be Yunelluna's first-time... Lol. Couldn't help but think of it. Anyway, in all seriousness... loved the length of this and I'm glad you didn't fold in more girls gor Harry to have possible interest in. Rias, Yasaka, Kalawarner and Yubelluna may be enough... unless you want to round it out by throwing in Gabriel too.... representation from all factions? But I highly doubt it'll happen. Keep up the awesome!!!

Druid

While I was surprised at Riser not dying, I think under the circumstances it makes sense.Once I read it though I thought something to the effect of, I've never seen a reformed Riser. While I do not think it would be easy, or quick I think it could at least be interesting. The coup de grâce being him meeting a woman, eventually, that can keep him in line, and him having enough time/experience to be good with it. Akeno, and Akeno/Tonks. I rather like what you're doing with Akeno myself, and as for Akeno and Tonks, I'm neither for nor against but it could be interesting for a time. I was going to say I do not understand why people get get angry authors for writing their story the way the want, but that would be a lie upon further reflection. However I'm at a place where I can say I see no value in being abusive about it. If I disagree, I'll state why, but politely. Any other way just isn't worth the time and if someone is being hateful they aren't either.

vimesenthusiast

Not an issue, you were respectful and not bashy although rather emotional. Thank tomon, his specific comment about not seeing the family approach Harry directly was what caused me to cotton on. I just can't leave going through the edited versions of the chapters to the last minute like that, that's all there is to it.

Matt Kent

Personally, I think that the decision to NOT kill Riser was the correct one, especially since it would be in such a public setting with Riser's family watching. The man is a complete asshole, but he is also a devil (thus has darker impulses and instincts that arent necessarily compatible with humanmorality, despite the Gremory disposition towards their underlings) as well as (probably) being raised as a spoiled noble and having no clue how to act around people.

Christophe Kamphaus

A perfect chapter. I liked it a lot. Although I was surprised by Harry sparing Riser, it makes sense with all the children present. Even without this justification, it's your prerogative to take the story into a new direction, so just ignore the flames. I very much like how you have developed the characters of Akeno and Tonks. Those two getting together would not be out-of-character. They might even join Harry's harem a time or two, but they would preferentially gravitate to each other. Thank you for writing this story.

Shance

With the eddited additions it makes much more sense, before it looked out of place simply seemed like harry was blind in anger to others and out of nowhere cooled down. Now there was a space to think, and a real reason to stop.

Braeden1002

I think it you did the right thing concerning Riser and the fights between Rias and Harry. The fight with Rias showed some of his character and everything after just showed how many issues he actually has. Besides, death is an ending and if they wanted Riser to feel despair, anguish, etc, it is better to leave him alive. No one will trust him again, his parents and family will completely change the way that they interact with him. Moreso, how will the greater society treat him after seeing the display of self absorbed entitlement. I also think it would add more depth and maybe bring about changes to that family. After seeing the prowess of Harry I could see them trying to convince him to teach Ravel. I like the way that you are treating Anko. He character in the light novels and anime has always seemed to come off as live in the moment. Maybe as she grows older and matures there may be changes to the way that she thinks and she could find that someone to settle down with. But as previously stated she is looking for that whirlwind romance and to have fun. Pairing her with Tonks who although would help to temper some of her negative habits is someone that just wants to have fun and enjoy themselves. Now it is possible that their relationship could be long just with so many shared interests and I think Tonks will be able to help her temper her SM tendencies and or find a way to let them out in a safe manner.

Doraemax

Harry vs Riser. Typical Harry. And i approved. Though i had hoped being impaled with Fragarach will bound Riser to his oath. Akeno. I think Akeno now needs to grow into her own. In this, Tonks can be a guide, of sort. An older figure who can show her how to grow fully into her own. I think she also needs to further explore all her roots, including her Fallen side. Yubelluna, was not simply blessed. She swore her life to Harry's and i think it will be binding. How that will work with her devil status, though...huhu. Plus, i think the blessing will also change her somewhat, i.e. she can now tapped into some aspect of Harry. Like a Cleric in DnD, i supposed.

Nick Finn

I liked it. Frankly, despite his history, one fundament of Herry Potter being Harry Potter, is he doesnt just kill. He may hurt while ragng, but he wont murder in cold blood. So yes, I full agreed with what happened to Riser. As for Akeno, I agree with her and Harry not getting together, they have physical attraction, but that is all. They have little in common for romance and are better off as friends. As for Tonks? I think that the pair can do as they want, but the relationship wont last. Simply put, Tonks can give Akeno a good solid into into the lifestyle but they wont work as a long term couple. On the other hand, it can be a good method for Akeno to 'grow up' and become more Mature.

vees

I had no problems with how Harry was acting during the chapter or the Riser fight, my only issue with the entire 75,000 word chapter (honestly amazing) was how Koneko was kinda talking like a caveman. I know she’s quiet, but that doesn’t mean she can’t use proper grammar.

Bt

Either could’ve worked with the right narrative. I mean riser had no problem incinerating his peerage and welshing on a bet in front of everyone. On other hand killing a chikd in front of their negligent parents might be more than harry can do . Malfoys (whatever happened to them) would not be equivalent.

R Brown

I was surprised when you didn't kill off Riser, but the way the story played out makes sense. When I envisioned you killing Riser, it was more of a spit-second, heat of the moment type of action. For example, if Harry notice something that made him anticipate Riser's spiteful attack, but didn't think that he could shield/save the target, other than by putting Riser down first. This missing lines do help explain Harry's reasoning. Especially after it was alluded that Harry took a very hardline stance against the DEs. About Akeno... As I have seen in several other comments, these are either people that want to 'feed the harem', or have Akeno as a part of their OTP. Do not let this trouble you. Some uncertain pairing can be good. I think 'playing the field' a little does fit with Akeno's character. Akeno/Tonks could be amusing.

vimesenthusiast

That is a fanon thing I think, where she doesn't use 'I' or really complete sentences at all. It is getting irritating to me too at this point, so I will have Yubelluna, as part of her fitting in section, work on changing that. She still won't talk much though, an that should help keep her in character.

Tomon

It's true that the blessing restored Yubelluna from the waist down, so it would be definitely sweet and meaningful moment, when she would truly left Riser and what she suffered at his hand, at least physically behind :) Nice idea

Cade Carruth

I like how the chapter went. The Tonks/Akeno pairing made more sense than having Akeno in the Harry harem. Rias and Yasaka fit well while Akeno seems more drawn to Issei and/or Tonks (maybe it will be Akeno with a harem rather than Issei).

2026-09-06 06:00 I have no issues with either aspect of the story. As long as you don't play it as Riser gets strong somehow to seek revenge and terrible things and much angst results.

LOL. NO. If Riser shows up he'll be a bit player at best, wiped out quickly by the main chracters.

Seaver IXp

I'm disappointed with Akeno leaving Harry but this Harry is too goody goody person. I'm thinking of Harry getting 'infected' which brings out his more primal persona that he's blocked off. Then Akeno can come back. I like the Tonks/Akeno direction. However, I believe Tonks becoming a devil is too quick and irrational. Which brings me to the part about Lily. What's to stop some devil to forcefully turn her? And I think her becoming one is stupid.

Titan7

I am also disappointed with Akeno Leaving Harry but I live with it. I still think that they could work in a relationship. I do think that Tonks just becoming a devil is a bit too fast but I am willing to see how it goes. I like the idea of Akeno and Tonks having a short relationship (Though wish Akeno was with Harry Harem). Hopefully though you do not turn Lily into a devil or Harry.

SuperiorPosterior

Suddenly, the Angel Decks are created months early, all because Harry accidentally turned a Devil into an Ascended Demon (or something). That'd be somewhat funny. More plausible is her staying a Devil, but becoming something like a Celtic Cleric.

SuperiorPosterior

Akeno leaving Harry makes sense. Their personalities just don't mesh well. I don't think the Tonks/Akeno ship will sail very far, but it'd be an interesting ship to christen, that's for sure. I don't think Lily should become a Devil. Nor should Asia. If anything, Kunou is the only one of the trio who I'd say has an actual reason why becoming a Devil would be beneficial, and even that is mainly because politics rather than an actual need to be a Devil. Kalawarner and Mittelt are fine as they are. I don't think Tonks should have become a Devil quite as fast as she did, but it's not much of a bother overall; her becoming one makes much more sense than most other characters becoming one, though I would find it hilarious if the Patil twins were both Reincarnated, one as a Devil, and the other as an Angel. Riser not being killed is perfectly reasonable, and I'd have been put off if Harry had gone through with killing him, because there's a difference between killing mid-battle and murdering in cold blood, and Harry got uncomfortably close to the latter with Riser, so I'm glad he resisted the urge. I wouldn't mind a bit of a talk between Harry, Ddraig, and Tiamat on the matter, though. Asking the two dragons their opinions on it would make a bit of sense (especially since they're the closest things to wise, impartial elders/teachers/friends he's got at hand.

SentientPileOfTentacles

I write this based on the story you had before any edits. Some comments indicate that you made some changes so i might have missed those. X( The choices you have made regarding Akeno make sense based on the way you have written her. It was organic and while there was interest on both sides, (Harry and Akeno) the chemistry was not there for something long term. In regards to Risor, while I would have loved to see this version's head on a pike, him living makes sense. Harry killing Risor in the arena would have been more of a public execution, not death in heated battle. Harry was initially going for a hot blooded rage kill (which was deserved). However, while it was apparent that he was still pissed he cooled off enough that he thought better of his actions and went for an alternative. The question, "was it a good decision going forward in universe?", is more important. At this point Risor has the potential for redemption, becoming a returning villain (I'm against this one), being a background character with no real impact, just disappearing from the story altogether with a few reference here and there... or maybe becoming comic relief outside the main story, like detailing his stumbling to become a better person. I'm against him becoming a returning villain because I feel the current state of his character is not interesting enough and he would not really do anything to affect the plot in any meaningful way aside from being pathetic and a walking corpse (I feel he would be just killed off in a gruesome manner). Outside what I've already said I don't know what you would do with him at this point. Primarily because he is not developed enough to fit in a role beside powerful 2-bit villain of terrible moral fiber. This can be changed as is your mighty power as the author. That being said on the whole I think you handled the resolution well. As a side note the scene itself feels like it is missing something and for the life of me I don't know what it is. Normally i would not mention this because i think it is unhelpful and could be nothing, but you've asked for opinions so i may as well write it down. Finally for Tonks' decision to become a devil, it felt rushed but not wrong. Tonks does not have anywhere else to go, neither does teddy. So becoming a devil, specifically of Rias' peerage, gives a them a place to go, a certain amount of protection and it allows her to keep an eye on Harry like Hermione requested. Again though, it felt a little rushed and it caught me a little flat footed that she just agreed in what feels like one paragraph. I think that hit the three main points. I love the story and your writing, in all honesty I feel you handled things very well. Keep it up :)

Duncan Evans

I totally agree with your resolution to the Riser situation. Killing him would have been too much, even though he had just killed one of his former peerage. I would have gone further, however. I would have had Harry bring Riser to Ravel, since it was her begging that saved him, and bind him to her as her queen, with stronger versions of the loyalty spells in place, and the restriction that he was never to leave her peerage. That would have effectively been a life sentence for murder, with Harry being merciful and letting him live. Being forced into subservience to a female would have been a poetic punishment for Riser. Tonks becoming a devil was perfect. She got an extended life span to match Harry, gets a significant magical power boost, and gets to help her new friend (especially since Harry can't). It seems rushed at first, but it fits her canon personality well (excitable, impulsive, & loyal). Lastly, Akeno leaving Harry. I could tell that they were doomed as a couple a few chapters ago when Akeno didn't enjoy spending time with Lily. I still think you should pair her with the new Issei, with him as the dominant. While Akeno is a sadist, the manga really shows that she has a strong submissive & masochistic side. She could show her sadistic side in battle, get herself all worked up, and tease Issei unmercifully, until he snaps and uses his new bondage spell on her. And the rest is history. I love the idea of Harry having more than one girl in this, but while Rias and Yasaka fit, Akeno does not. I would like to see them joined by Ingvild Leviathan, as she is a much better fit with Harry than with Issei. Gabriel would also be a great fit if can work her in. They'd have to be married, so Gabriel doesn't Fall, but that could work (Rias would just insist on being first). And last, Ophis, with Harry and the rest of his family teaching her to feel, and to love. Don't take my suggestions as any indication that I dislike how you've written your story. I really enjoy your work and am eagerly looking forward to the end of the month, and your next update.

Regarding Riser, and realizing that this is coming in pretty late since I only just got around to reading the story, I think you made a huge mistake. I've posted this to FF.net too, but don't know how often or even if you read those comments, so here it is: This was a show of absolute weakness on HP's part. Never make a threat and fail to keep it. Furthermore, Riser genuinely deserves to die. He is a pedophile and a rapist. HP could have made a major show of power here by just AKing him. The devils would see that he is capable of inflicting a fate worse than death on them, and done it in such a way that nothing of value was lost. At the same time, the readers could have seen that there is a point where he would take care of business. Instead, we ALL saw that you're writing him as a worthless pussy, who can be swayed by pathetic whining to spare a monster. Aside from making the character less interesting, he's also just invited attacks on himself and his family by showing that kind of weakness in front of everybody right after threatening death. It is notable that this is very much analogous to the way that the wizards let voldemort's followers off after his first incursion, thus inviting the second on themselves. I honestly hope you make multiple of the Kuoh group and others HP cares about die as a direct result of people deciding this means its ok to challenge him because he's too soft to kill anyone for it.

vimesenthusiast

First of all, I'm actually really good at answering reviews or posts here, if I feel the need to do so. In answer to your thoughts here: Harry didn't know Riser was a pedophile. He knew he was an abuser, and abused his peerage, and he was afraid that might be the case, but they didn't have concrete evidence of his abuses of the younger members of his peerage, only of Yubelluna and the Rooks. So while even with what they knew Harry would have felt justified in his own mind ending Riser, as a Devil there wouldn't have been enough there to warrant the death penalty. Harry using the AK. No. I have never had Harry use the AK, and I doubt I will. In this instance, it would have alienated literally every Devil there, including Rias and her peerage. Remember the Unforgivables target the soul, and Devils, Fallen, Youkai, indeed everyone but European Wizards, hold the soul as sacred. Destroying it would be beyond the pale to everyone but the most insanely corrupt - think Old Satan Faction or the group that release 666. Further, what you call pathetic whining (and I'm amused you basically cut and pasted your review here rather than make any attempt to make it seem less like an emotional rant) was from a young girl pleading for her brother. From parents who didn't want their son to be killed. To Harry the family man. Harry isn't a king or general, he isn't a soldier any longer, he is a father and family man first and foremost. He holds family sacred, as sacred as Devils/Angels/etc feel the soul is. Do you know who would have gone through with executing someone like that in front of their family, in Harry's view? Death Eaters. Indeed, that could be said to be one of their favorite activities, killing a loved one while making their family watch. Executing Riser after he had already won the fight, and could force concessions and punishments, would have served no purpose other than to make Harry feel better about himself. Furthermore, you assume that the Devils who watched will only see one thing. That's just stupid. Some of them will walk away with that message true, but not all of them. And those that do, will die. Harry might extend mercy at times, but not when his own family is threatened. If Riser had attacked Lily or the others, even if he hadn't succeeded, he would have died as Diodora did. This Harry has shown that he is more than willing to kill people who threaten his family before. If he has to do it again, so be it. And as for anyone trying to die because of this, ROFL. Riser, when you get down to it, is small peanuts, chump change in the great wing of things. He didn't matter much in the original after his arc ended, he won't matter here. He is simply inconsequential. Only his family will care a lick about him going forward, and he will never have the power to threaten anyone ever again. Anyway, hope this helps put your concerns, no matter how much they felt like attacks rather than well-considered concerns, to rest.

medon

You're right, I got emotional and that was wrong. I apologize for that. I suppose you can also take that as a compliment that your story was engaging enough to get to me like that. My main issue, with a less emotional bent, remains the political consideration here. Harry was there effectively as a political power. The recent arrangement with the Youkai being a strong part of that. Then, he made a strong statement in front of so many, made a threat in public, and then failed to keep it. Plenty of people both in real life and in fiction would consider that an invitation to test his power and his borders. Nobody's going to care about Riser, true, but they'll care about the new political power bloc being built between the Sitri, Gremory, Youkai, and Potters, and I would think him aware enough to notice that.

Majere

I am also kind of sad about akeno leaving harry. I think they might have have an interesting dynamic between them in the future. If her thing with tongs is brief please for love of all don't pair her with Issei

vimesenthusiast

I had asked about a Issei/Akeno pairing and that does seem the consensus: that it wouldn't work for a variety of reasons. As for Tonks/Akeno, that's only a possibility. As for Akeno and Harry breaking up, who ever said it was permanent?

Purpleeater54

Since I'm only just seeing this now and it looks like you are still looking at the response here I'll throw in my opinion on Akeno (and Tonks). I think that while I would have loved to see Akeno with Harry (and the other women) because of the really unique dynamic she brings, I think it's actually better for everyone leaving her out of that pairing. I think her deliberate desire to cause pain clashes terribly with the others. There is a difference between rough, crazy sex like we see with Harry letting loose in this most recent chapter, and S&M type stuff that Akeno seems to be a fan of. That all being said, I really would love Tonks and Akeno exploring a relationship. Tonks' personality seems to mesh really well with Akeno and I could see them making quite the pairing, and a really fun one at that. The amount of teasing of each other that they can do would actually be hilarious to read. I also think the way you wrote Tonks I could almost see her needing to have someone (Akeno) come in and take control in the bedroom. I don't know, I really like the idea of that pairing.
