The format for December will be:

One Medium sized story for fanfic. This poll has already been put up.

One small story for fanfic.  This poll will be posted the same day I announce the winner of November’s small story poll. Whoever wins will not be in the December poll. This in an attempt to start some kind of rotation, rather it is simply so I can get the poll started early.

I will also be sharing two chapters of Making Waves with the public at large.  That will be enough for Fanfic only fans.

Then we will have THREE more stories, at least two of which will be for Patreon.

The first patron only story will be a present to myself as much as it will be for the fans who have voted for this teaser concept since I introduced it: a spoiler chapter for my story concept, Heroes of the High Seas. I want to do this for many reasons, mainly because I want to see if I can actually write a male lead whose primary good point is his mental ability, at least at first, and who has shit for confidence in most situations. That, and because I think the idea of Izuku and the others in One Piece land could be fun. So this will be my present to myself LOL.

The second story will be a straight up clash between Sword, Bow and Horse, and Making Waves. Bhaalson Remodel will not be on here for December since it won in November, and because the next chapter (after the chapter for November) is… well it’s not much of a spoiler to say it will be combat from one side of the chapter to the other. A whole campaign essentially in a single chapter. So that is the kind of chapter I’d want to pair with two other stories that month which have a lot of world building or romance.

The fifth story for December is undecided at the moment and will remain so until I see the results of the November. I want to see if Gods and Devils and Wild Horses wins at last. If it doesn’t, then I will just straight up update it as the fifth story for December. If it wins, then I may switch to a poll about a Ranma-centric concept chapter.  Not an HP one. Sorry HP fans, but most of my Ranma teaser chapter concepts have their first chapters fully outlined, whereas the HP ones do not. That, and you dominated back in October and have a chance of doing the same for November, so December will be time for my Ranma muse to shine.

That said, I have looked at the results thus far of my poll ‘What Are Your Two Favorite Stories?’. With only four days left, FILFy is winning by 14 points over ATP and even ATP getting that close was due to a rally in the past few days from it’s fans.  I have been astonished to see that none of the fanfic Ranma stories have been able thus far to take even second. Stallion of the Line is currently in third, but a distant third having brought in only 103 votes so far.

If you haven’t votes yet, I would urge you to head over, but this does pose a problem for me. I have been singularly unable to control my FILFy muse when I get going, so I don’t see my being able to write a FILFy chapter as anything less than a medium story. Which means that whenever it wins, it cuts into my SW story for that month. On the other hand I love FILFy. Rias and the others are fun to play with, and I love Daddy Potter and his growing collection of daughters LOL.

But, ATP did well enough as well that I am going to start having it be part of the polls going forward. I think I am at the point where I can cut it’s chapters down to say, normal medium story length rather than massive chapter length. But again, this poses problems because if I put it in, I have to put it up against Magic and Horse.

So what would everyone think of, say removing the Patreon only story every other month and replacing it with a second medium story poll? And then making certain the winner for the small story poll when it’s posted is a Ranma fic unless Horse wins that month?

{Note: this is just one idea I came up with to address the fact that FILFy and ATP are so much more popular than my SW stories (pout). If you have another idea, share it with me, and unless it’s ridiculous we’ll see if it can work any better than mine}

I am also giving a shout out for Baldur’s Gate fans. This is a straight up request for anyone who has played Baldur’s Gate to PM me. I want people – at least three or four – to bounce ideas off going forward. This will include but not be limited to: questions about Faerun in general, quests that need to be included, the Gamer aspects. Most importantly it will be about which NPCs to include in the story beyond the ones I’ve already introduced. If you are interested in this kind of discussion, PM me here on Patreon please.

Oh my god... Oh my god! ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!? You're REALLY gonna do the High Seas story?! YEEEESSSSS!!!! Finally! Oh man, I'M SO EXCITED!!!! That is gonna be my best day yet!!

Titan7

High Sea story

JustDK

I don't mind getting rid of some of the patreon only stuff every other month. To be honest, it's such a hassle to read on patreon that I rather just only from ff instead.

vimesenthusiast

you can't download the Word doc? Or is that just as troublesome in some other way? File compatability issue or something?

Tomon

Getting High on the High story here :) Really looking forward to that. Especially as it's going to be quite different from your usual stories so far ;) Also I don't mind the idea at all. My preference for reading is based on the 'platform' is FF > Doc >>> Patreon. So while Doc is making it better for mobile reading I still prefer FF.net both in browser and in mobile app :) PS: 'Daddy Potter' in a story which name contains 'FILFy' is SO VERY misleading :-D

JustDK

I can, but with both Patreon and Word Docs, it just doesn't read or scroll easily. I mostly read on the phone.

Let me sum up my thoughts regarding this situation: Anything that guarantees more Ranma is good. That is all.

Personally I'm a fan of whichever option gets me more Daddy Potter. I came over here from fanfiction because I loved FILFY and really digged this rendition of Harry and the DXD/HPverse world-building has been fricking fantastic.

I think it´s a good way to satisfy the patreons and also yourself with this plan. I can´t wait to read the next chapter of SBH if it wins.

vimesenthusiast

The fact it's the most popular and that I also am enjoying it a lot is why I'm thinking of having this format change. I have simply failed every time I tried to cut a chapter of FILFY down to small story size, so it needs to be with the larger stories. What might eventually happen is having an HP only poll, then having one poll for small stories and a Ranma poll. We'll see. I'd like to see if other people have a better idea to keep FILFy updating without taking away from the other fics.

vimesenthusiast

hmm... do you use the web or their apps? Trying to see if that could help. Or... well, if you enjoy the patreon fics despite this issue we could see about some other way of posting them to you and others with the same issue.

Scott

I actually think that your surprise at the fanfic poll results is a little odd. Harry Potter has a MUCH larger general fan base then ranma, which is more obscure by comparison. This doesn’t really factor in here on patreon as the people who vote here are general fans of yours but it makes a big difference on fanfic because that is open to everyone. Personally I really like your ranma stories, but I hadn’t even heard of it prior to reading wild wolf which I loved but I only gave it a chance because I fell in love with ATP first. I tend to think of ranma as being a very interesting OC created by you.

JustDK

Just through the web. I read on my phone mostly at work or on the go with ff, and only use patreon or the word docs when at home on my computer since it's harder in the phone.

vimesenthusiast

it's surprising because for the longest time my patrons were dominated by Ranma fans. HP fans were much slower to join up here.

Hiryo

Well most likely due too many story to vote for Ranma stories. The Ranma voters have to split up their votes between stories they like and like not (like i know some who do not like One Piece or Fairy Tail due various reasons and thus do not like to read stories about such but that is beside the point.) The point is that Ranma fans have to split their votes too many times and Harry Potter fans usually have a no-brainer vote, as well more Harry Potter fans come over to Patreon, which got me thinking, maybe change my contribution money to even more so I get some of my Ranma fix. XD It doesn't help that compared to FILFY, there is no main nookie story out there to compare to this FILFY one. BTW I'm thankful for the last 'snippet' in the Stallion story. ;) This all, along with waiting to see how the concept stories of Ranma are out there, this makes it even harder on the Ranma side of spoils for choice. On the other hand please finish these nearly finished stories, so these get of the list and are finally under completed!

Hiryo

If you upload the doc to 'see only for yourself google drive' there is no problem with reading this via the phone, alternately there are various different apps which makes it possible to read this via the phone easily too, instead of the build in ones. Besides you can try a different browser compared to the internal one like chrome/firefox/opera to see if it is there easier to browse the docx file. I for one know that reading on patreon (not the doc) on the mobile phone is a hassle, that I am as well totally meh on this side. However, with the doc Format, this is an entire different matter and only depends on which app you read it from.

vimesenthusiast

interesting solutions from Hiryo. Would you mind if I posted those suggestions in a post about reading on this site?

JustDK

I tried all the suggestions from Hiryo. Downloading a reading app and reading it on the phone was definitely easier then anything I tried before. Btw what app do you use for it? However even after trying all that, the method I found most useful for reading on the phone was actually through Patreon. I just opened the Actual Post for example, chapter 14 of Making Waves, then turned off Java Script on the phone and used font enlargement through accessibility and it almost looked just like I was reading on FF.

Hakkira

Well I became a Patreon because of ATP so my vote will always be for more of that though I will check out your other stories despite never being a Ranma fan.
