Hello everybody! As you will have noticed, Sword Bow and Horse is up now. Stallion of the line will be up tomorrow, as will FILFy. Nad Destroyer got it back to me earlier tonight, and I will go through it tomorrow. Stallion is with Hiryo and Tomon, who will hopefully be able to get it back to me sometime tomorrow as well as I would like their opinion on several points within the chapter. Regardless, it will be posted before midnight tomorrow.

Anyway, with the August stuff done or nearly so, it is time to think of the future. And in the pursuit of that, I have some questions to ask you all. This will not be the only post I make, but it will be the one to actually have questions about specific stories

1. With the work on SB&H finished, it should come as no surprise that the first questions are about it.

A. In the last chapter, I tried to use Ranma as a sort of jumpstart to getting Valentina, and through her a lot of other people – mostly OCs- thinking in terms of guns, and steam in the future. This was so that I could introduce steampunk elements later on, a type of story I’ve no yet been able to delve into. So my question is, did it work? Is it interesting enough to follow through? Or do you think it just is too silly, and I should give it up? Just have Tina develop muskets instead.

B. This is a question for a few chapters in the future: how strong should Thenardier be in comparison to Roland and Elen? His style more resembles Roland, and he was able to beat Elen off in canon, but his body wasn’t up to standing up to an arrow to the forehead from Tigre. So I am wondering where he should be in terms of durability? Should I make it that the arrow penetrated due to being shot far faster than any other arrow due to the black bow, or should he be a glass cannon, able to do damage but not take it in turn?

C. Should Ranma go on an anti-slavery crusade in Muozinel in the future? I have other ideas of what he should be doing, but I am wondering if people would like to see him use more espionage and trickery and so forth to try to overthrow an entire society based on slavery? Warning: this is not going to be as easy as in

2. My next two questions are about FilFy Teacher. It should come as no surprise that I try to finish off the Ireland stuff in the next chapter, and after that FILFy will be on a month long hiatus before being one of the small story poll choices. After that will be a aftermath chapter and then a transfer to Egypt and the adventure there (not all in one chapter LOL). My question is about the Egyptian adventure.

A. First, is there have anyone among you who has been there? If so, could I respectfully ask to pick your brain? PM me if so.

B. second, if there are any among you who have studied Egyptian mythology, I will also cheerfully inquire about that from you as well.  Again, PM me so we can talk without spoilers being shared.

C. I would like to introduce a man or boy from the church, an exorcist who won’t leap to conclusions about Asia. Are there any such characters already existing? Beyond that giant bald priest guy whose name I can never remember. I’m not looking for a permanent character, but someone who can start to sooth the troubled waters between Harry and the church, since Irina and Xenovia are not really representatives of that body.

Other questions about FIlfy will be forthcoming after the chapter is posted, due to fear of spoilers.

3. And now a hop over to my other DxD crossover, GDWHOM:

A. This question is about two chapters away from being important, but it’s one I have fought with myself over. My initial thought in this story was to have Sairaorg Bael and Kasumi meet and for the two of them to fall in love. But I am having second thoughts about introducing Bael so soon, simply because he is so much stronger than any of the characters at present. Ranma has more potential, but he can’t use the magic of Jusenkyo very well just yet. So should I keep this pairing and just push it back, or have one of the other male characters (not Ranma, they are bro and sis) show interest in her?

B. I intend to use this story to explore other mythologies a lot – yes the characters will be traveling the world LOL. So after Japan and China’s, what mythology most interests you all?

C. For DxD experts, beyond Sun Wukong, are there any other Chinese mythological figures mentioned in DxD canon? And I’m not talking about weapons, but characters here.

I have several questions about Stallion of the Line, but all of them have a slight spoiling smell about them, so they too will wait for now.

4. Because of that, we will go on to Fate Touched.  There is only one question here. What does everyone think of Tauriel, and pairing her with Harry instead of eventually pairing him with Eowyn? This is a BIG question, since having Harry be in a relationship with an Elf or even just interested in an Elf will change how he spends his time in the intervening years between the events of the Fellowship (or what I will be writing instead LOL) and thus would change a great deal of the, call it the middle of the story I suppose. It would also mean having Harry be pushed towards effective immortality rather than wanting to be more mortal/normal. Further, what will be his impact on Tuariel, not just the reverse? Big topics, all leading back to a single question here people.

That’s all for now folks, hope you all had a fun and safe August. Watch out for the September polls to be posted tomorrow, and happy reading!

Mayday

Regarding Fate Touched, I believe that going with Tauriel would be the better choice. Especially considering how long Harry has been around at this point. She would offer a much better point of reference compared to a regular human no matter how impressive she is in canon

Derek Nelson

Dulio Gesualdo is a character in DxD that you might want to use in FILFY.

Readm

GDWHOM I think you should introduce Sairaorg Bael for 3 reasons. 1. Kasumi deserves the best guy as a partner and Sairaorg Bael is definitely the best guy in DxD. 2. Sairaorg Bael is a martial artist and hes definitely stronger than Ranma. when Ranma sees that it will inspire him to get stronger ad work harder on his physical body. 3. Sairaorg Bael can teach Ranma about Touki which is the secret to elevating the body to fight against anything no matter what power it is using Touki Sairaorg Bael is capable of crushing even the full power attack of the combined holy Durandal Excalibur sword and he is also able to shatter the power of destruction.

AR

3A - having Sairaorg show up "early" could be interesting. He could serve as a new goal for Ranma to meet, and he could pick up some ideas for Ranma to make himself even stronger as well. I'm also curious how that pairing would work... 3B - Egyptian or Mesoamerican come to mind. Roman/Greek and Norse already show up in DxD, of course. Slavic deities could also be interesting, in part because other than Chernobog in Shin Megami Tensei, I've never even seen most of them depicted.

Starazer

4. Have to agree with Tauriel as well. The decades and centuries that Harry will have lived is a pretty large gulf.

Megaslayer321a

3A: I think having Sairaorg show up early could be quite fun it would put Ranma in Ryoga's position, though not as stupid/angry/depressive as Ryoga, forcing Ranma to grow and giving him a truly friendly rivalry along with a male friend. It could also be fun to bring Sairaorg around on Ranma's adventures into other cultures forcing him to grow faster then he would normally as well.

JbstormburstADV

1C - I would be very much a fan of seeing Ranma use his more subtle tendencies to break slavers on their knees. 2C - As suggested by Derek Nelson, Duolio is likely going to be the best bet here, if we're already discounting Vasco Strada. 3A - Like a number of the others, I don't exactly see the issue with Sairaorg involving himself this early; if anything, it gives Ranma a "rival" to compare himself against for the first time since Ryoga fell off the level field.

Kyo Amamoto

to the best of my knowledge wukong is the only chinese legend of note mentioned in dxd.

MJ

For Fate Touched I have to cast my vote for Tauriel for the same reasons others have stated, the number of years he has lived leave him much more relatable to the elves then to humans (except maybe the Númenóreans).

Kariston Draconis

1A: Honestly, steampunk never even occured to me there, and I don't know that it would fit with the world as is. Do they even know that their world is spherical? 1B: Thenardier is a Tank, no if's, and's or but's about it. Tigre shot him in the head from close range, that'd take pretty much anyone who isn't Ranma out, and even Ranma would take some significant damage from that, a fractured skull and concussion for sure. 1C: I'm all for anti-slavery, but if he's doing that as a solo gig, that's gonna take a long time, like at least a book and a half to two books worth of time. 2A: Not one of the placed I've been, sorry. 2B: Actually, I have done some study on many mythologies, Egyptian included. Granted, not alot, but I know some things. 2C: Giant bald priest guy is Vasco Strada. As for a male church character who could start the peace process between Team Potter and the church, the only one I can think of who might fit the bill would be Dulio Gesualdo. 3A: Sairaorg and Kasumi? That would never have even occurred to me, but I already ship it so hard! Plus having someone around who's, at least initially, stronger than him could give him a sense of competition that he didn't even know he was missing ever since Ryoga became a one act wonder. 3B: Other Mythologies? Greek/Roman, Egyptian, Norse, Mayan, and Celtic are all very interesting. 3C: DxD tends to combine Chinese Taoism and Buddhism into one category, but there's a few there: Xuanzang Sanzang, Nezha, Guan Yu, Enma

Teraseneste

Out of all the questions asked, I can really only give an answer to the last one about Fate Touched. In all honesty, I think that Tauriel is a better choice for Harry in the ling run, but I also think that the relationship would be something to stretch out in it's creation. Harry shows in the books that when it comes time for the hunt, he can even drop his relationship and focus on the mission; and in the movie, Tauriel drops everything several times to do her duty. I think that while there could be some attraction between them, both Harry and Tauriel would likely focus on fighting the evils they see before them before anything can actually happen. The only other options for Harry that I would see as fitting would be one of the Dunedain. Either way, any relationship work for Harry would have to be done outside the Hobbit and LOTR story-line as nothing could happen during the events.

Nathanael Hamilton

4 - Fate Touched; I agree with Tauriel being the better choice for Harry.

Woolleymammoth

For Fate Touch, I am all for Tauriel but why are there no fics with Harry and Arwen? I think that would be a better pairing. Harry/tauriel/Arwen. But that’s just my opinion.

Tomon

2B) Study is a strong word but feel free to ask. I have interested in most mythologies and legends, pantheons included. That being said, it's sometimes colored by other works of fiction :) 3A) Battle junkie and Kasumi, who you even gifted with Sacred Gear based on 'peace'? :-D Well, opposites do sometimes attract but I don't really see it :-D On the other hand I don't really see the issue with introducing someone from younger generation who is actually at the moment stronger than Ranma. After all Bael is not antagonistic. 3B) They could of course travel the word, but first I would actually like to see them exploring more of the Shinto pantheon (Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi, Susanoo) and the whole Imperial Court. Or even the Dragon gods of japan (Ryujin and so). We saw several pantheons, but this one seems quite absent :) And there is so much to explore. Btw, I also recommend story 'Son of the Western Sea' by Mac Ceallach. 4) I'm honestly not sure. Tauriel and Harry got kinda down to eath banter and chemistry. But they're also in weird position so far to judge their compatibility. Galadriel on the other hand got the otherwordly sense to her and it also affect the relationship they have so far. In my opinion you could let it develop naturally? See how and where it goes with Tauriel. And there is always the cruel option of another heartbreak - having her die, while they're still developing feeling for each other.

Kilderon

4. Fate Touched - Tauriel does feel like the better fit, for a multitude of reasons that have already been mentioned here

Icarus

2B - so my partner is a classiest so I can field questions to her or she can even field them on to people. This can be for egypt roman or Greek. But earlier the better with them as I'm only middling with my knowledge on each. Also if you want any small gods to have lived the purge of the angels there was a period in the late roman empire when it swapped religion back to pagan. So some of those could have lived. 2C - could you do Irina's father. Have him come back as an exorcist after talking with his daughter. He maybe feels there is a way forward in cooperation. 4 - I always felt unless he can die with her of old age Harry is better with an elf

Udodelig Urningin

I will always vote to reduce tragedy. And since Eowyn (despite angst) has a good relationship at the end and Tauriel (even if we import her character to the bookverse) does not, I think Tauriel would be a better fit for the out of context person that pops up in universe. Although I agree with teraseneste, both seem very duty orientated and unless you could get them assigned to the same missions there would be long gaps with no interaction (which could be a boon or a bane).

M B

I would definitely be interested to see how a Tuariel romance would go.

Nobody

1a-I would enjoy seeing some steampunk elements. 1b-glass cannon. 3a-Awesome pairing idea. Maybe push it back some or else have Sairaorg help with Ranma's training. 3b-Maybe Aztec or Incan for some trouble.

Delphinous

i can only help with a few of your questions here: 3A. i'm honestly fine with sairaorg bael showing up soon. obviously ranma would love to fight him, but as long as he's basically just visiting and occasionally sparring, not outright living with ranma and co most of the time, then he shouldn't be taking over any major engagements from ramna until he's up to a more comparable level. 3B the mythologies that i'm most interested in seeing that ether aren't in DxD or are so much later in it that i don't know about it are north american natives and african mythologies. 4 i love interspecies pairings, but while there are tons of stories with 'oooh, elves are pretty and i'm attracted' in them, i actually have trouble finding stories where an elf and a human/non-elf actually have meaningful character development and buildup around their relationship. they always either seem to happen offscreen or otherwise already be resolved without us having to see anything of the growth and conflicts it entails. so i'd enjoy harry tauriel much more than harry eowen, although i think i'll enjoy the story regardless

Delphinous

probably because the cannonical romance is arwen/aragorn and since people actually like aragorn most authors leave his romance alone

Scott

Fate Touched - I like the Tauriel pairing better in theory, but its hard to answer that question without understanding how it will change the middle section of the story. I would really like to see some serious vimesenthusiast style world building in middle earth. Having Harry spend time living with the dwarves, or visiting Rhun or Harad, or becoming the lord of a town/city, etc. I'm not sure if he could do those things as easily if he had an elf with him, or if you planned on that at all. I just don't want him to wind up spending all of his time (some is fine) as a guest in the elven lands, because they tend to get stagnant, and I like the more innovative, proactive Harry. I guess my point is that the overall direction of the story is more important than the pairing so its hard to really answer your question.

Hiryo

1) SB&H a) For me the groundwork is done, for at least Valentina. And with the magic on top of it Steampunk would be fun. b) I think that was part due Tigre and part through the bow. I wouldn’t make him a glass cannon, for that his build is for me too much of a ‘Tough Guy.’ c) At least in their country and diplomatic way with their allies. Let’s face it you even said that Ranma versus a whole army that can do formation it’s hard of a stretch in the long term with the numbers too high for a whole land. 3) GDWHOM a) You can introduce him so soon due the whole change you did with the higher ups. Still need a personal reason for it but doable. I however would suggest that he will be recalled due Devil matter of his family to have a too deep an impact and stays in touch with Kasumi. ==> Would leave you a backdoor in case you want Ranma and Co coming to the Devil lands. I agree with justlovereadin about Sairaorg being a good rival for Ranma. ^^ b) For me it would be Egyptian or Aztek/Mayan that would interest me the most. c) Sun Wukong - https://highschooldxd.fandom.com/wiki/Sun_Wukong Yu-Long - https://highschooldxd.fandom.com/wiki/Yu-Long Bull Demon King (Mentioned in the ‘Sun Wukong’ website section) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Journey_to_the_West_characters#Bull_Demon_King,_Princess_Iron_Fan_and_associates Ao Guang (Dragon King of the East Sea) - (Mentioned in Weapon section: https://highschooldxd.fandom.com/wiki/Ruyi_Jingu_Bang) Team Journey to the West (Nezha, Zhu Bajie, Sha Wujing, Yu-Long): Nezha - https://highschooldxd.fandom.com/wiki/Nezha Zhu Bajie (https://highschooldxd.fandom.com/wiki/Other_Characters/Youkais#Zhu_Bajie) Sha Wujing (https://highschooldxd.fandom.com/wiki/Other_Characters/Youkais#Sha_Wujing)

Sisyphus

I like the idea of Tauriel but agree with Scott that living with elves is stagnant. Travels with returns or living together somewhere vibrant is more interesting. I would love to see some American Indian mythos exploration in GDWHOM. Bring on Bael.

Paul McDonnell

I agree with Scott that I like the idea of a Tauriel pairing, but would prefer to see Harry out and about in the world rather than just... sitting about in trees and maybe killing spiders in Mirkwood for the majority of his time.

MinotaurKing

1a. You didn't feel like you were leading into it, but steampunk does sound interesting. 1b. Sounds like a glass cannon to me. 1c. No even with the sneaking stuff he has done so far; I think that overthrowing a whole ass country is too far outside of Ranma's stealth/espionage abilities.

MinotaurKing

2a. Never been there sorry. 2b. I know a lot of random stuff about Egyptian mythology but I am no expert. 2c. not sure you need to blunt his opinion of the church since it feels like Harry his mature/professional enough to work with them anyway; but Dulio and Vasco would be good dudes to use if you feel like it is important.

MinotaurKing

3a. You can introduce Bael(have him check in on his cousin)to give Ranma a new mountain to climb for the art; then have Bael get called back due to the political upheaval caused by the fracas between Rias and her parents. I don't care for the idea of Kasumi/Bael(I just don't like it no real concrete reason), also just don't force a romance for her in general or get stuck on the idea of a het pairing; if it develops naturally see were goes otherwise don't worry about giving her a romance. 3b. Aztec/Mayan, Polynesian, Hindu, Slavic, and Zoroastroan are all pretty interesting mythologies. 3c. I remember Guan Yu, Ao Kuang, and Ne Zha.

Tom smith

3a yea just pushed back. 4 yea elf pairing ftw

Novus

Wanted to actually read Sword, Bow and Horse before I replied. 1A) I love steampunk and hope you do add some in! I'm not AT ALL familiar with the source material of the Vanadis series, but with that caveat, you seem to be doing a decent job so far of drifting that way. 1B) I have no idea on account of having zero clues about the source material. 1C) I'm always on board with anti-slavery campaigns. It's among the most horrible things one human can do to another and I suspect it would bother Ranma a lot. For numerous reasons. 2 & 3 - I don't read your DxD fiction for reasons I've mentioned before. I have, however, been to Egypt before and could answer at least general questions. Obviously, I can't answer anything specific to those stories, due to the aforementioned not reading. 4 - I can't describe how strongly I say YES to HarryxTauriel. Just...Yes. honestly she's a much better fit for him, I think. For all that I like Eowyn, she's...kinda a bit too much Harry's opposite. Harry might have a saving people thing and a willingness to take action...but he's honestly not really an adventurer seeking adventure. You've shown an understanding of that basic character trait throughout your Harry/Whatever stories...and that runs directly counter to Eowyn's thirst for glory/to prove herself. I just can't see them fitting all that well together.

vimesenthusiast

There we go! That guy looks perfect. Although I will be introducing him before he becomes Michael's Joker.

vimesenthusiast

Not certain about Touki - not yet. It would push Ranma's other priority - using his Jusenkyou given magic somehow. But yes, I agree that Sairarorg is stronger than Ranma and the best male character from the DxD originally. What I might do is introduce Sairarorg soon, that way it could be believable that he himself has yet to master Touki. He'll still win, easily, but not as overwhelmingly.

vimesenthusiast

MesoAmerican is an excellent idea. The Incans and thier cities of the dead... Egyptian not so much - will be going into that in FILFy. HMm... on the Slavic deities. Would have to think about how to integrate them.

vimesenthusiast

Not if he spends most of it in the Elven lands. But even so, it could be interesting to write a Harry that is only mature when he is forced to be and is otherwise a manchild regardless of how long he has lived.

vimesenthusiast

Yes on the first, no on the second. If I did that, Sairarog would have to be limited in some fashion or he would steal Ranma's thunder just by being there.

vimesenthusiast

There are no female Numenorean characters, alas. UNless I want to try my hand at a Fem Aragorn LOL. And no, I am not serious about that at all.

vimesenthusiast

1A. Spherical yes. But to my mind the basis of steampunk is a 'mad scientist, everyone can try to become an inventor' type of mindset. That is what Valentina is going to be creating in Osterode. Not so much specific devices, although those will come in time. 1B. When you add in the black bow, heck yes. Even it's normal arrows make ones fired from a composite bow seem slow. But he's so slow, Ranma would be dancing around him like a butterfly. 2A No worries, neither have I. On the other hand, I have been to Barcelona. Sagrada Familia - I am not religious at all, and even if I was, I'm not Christian. But that place is an amazing experience, regardless. 2B. Cool. Will ask you for help when it gets to that point. Right now, I am just wondering about the overall feel of Egypt frankly, specifically, how crowded it is, how loud, and how to play the Islamic angle. - overall stuff, not specifics. 2C. That was it, yeah, I looked him up after you mentioned him. He's definitely going to show up in GDWHOM eventually. Three chapters or so in the future maybe? 3A. I know right?! It occurred to me way back when i started this fic, I just haven't got to it yet. 3B. Mayan is a possibility, along with Incan. Celtic, nah - that's what FILFy is for. Norse is going to show up regardless, as are the Romans - I think in GDWHOM I will go with the Roman versions of those gods. 3C. The problem with all of those is... they are Buddhas, and are in India. Not China. I was thinking of perhaps another male character, or perhaps Ren... LOL. And if you get that connection you win a cookie

vimesenthusiast

Yes, if I go with Tauriel I would stretch their relationship out hugely, with lots of breaks in between. I think it would be a thing of attraction first, then friendship in adversity followed by a loooong period of being apart, then coming together again under unusual circumstances... After all, who says I need Legolas to be the representative of the elves among the Fellowship?

vimesenthusiast

that and in the books Arwen has something like like a few paragraphs worth of lines? Let's face it, Tolkien didn't really do female characters very often.

vimesenthusiast

Bael isn't a combat junky like Dohnaseek or Vali. He is a lot more like Ranma - he lives to challenge himself. As for a connection, opposites attract sure, but what is Sairaorg fighting for - recognition, defense of his family and peace. Respectable, no? 3b - Susanoo is going to make an appearance. In fact that will be the first adventure they have away from Kuoh. Amaterasu too, though I don't know if I will make the Sun Goddess a character or just mention her fate. No dragons though, I'll be waiting on those. And yeah, what Chinese characters there are, are all Buddhas and in India. 4. True on the weird position. And its going to get weirder. The trick to letting the romance aspect happen naturally is that there are sooo few canon female characters. Even Tauriel isn't canon - she was created for the movies. I like her, but still. Arwen has Aragorn, Galadriel is more like Harry's Mum and is married, and then there's Eowyn and a few female hobbits. Derth of the ladies indeed.

vimesenthusiast

classiest? - a bit of autocorrect there perhaps? At the moment, my questions are more vague about the impressions of Egypt than anything else - food, is it really as bad as it is often portrayed in movies away from the main tourist areas? How crowded are the towns, cities? And yeah, in GDWHOM I'm going to use the Roman version of the Greek gods.

vimesenthusiast

Yes, Sairarog will only show up briefly, then will show up occasionally here and there mainly to interact with Kasumi. Incan and Mayan are a lock to show up in GDWHOM. 4. Dude, it's me. If i do a romance it will all be shown on screen or as best as I can without being bogged down. In this fic though, romance is not in my top five of priorities, and the way the characters act towards it will reflect this - so expect slow or surprising romance, or both LOL.

vimesenthusiast

LOL thank you for reading the rest of that question instead of the one portion of it LOL. Yes, you will get some world-building, though not Harad - The Haradrim are xenophobic to the extreme. I might go into detail on the various dwarven nations though. And Gondor. It's said in the books that Aragorn served as a captain in Gondor at some point when Faramir and Boromir were young, I could definitely do that with Harry - could be a good way to introduce him and Aragorn to one another. He will however spend quite a bit of time in the Elven lands - first to heal his mind, and then just because he and Galadriel are already close, and will grow closer, with her basically becoming his older sister/Mum figure in a way. That and chief nurse LOL. I suppose the real question should have been, looking at all that: should Tauriel tag along with Harry, or is her character too duty oriented? - that, and would big changes at home... well that would be telling LOL.

vimesenthusiast

1. Magi-tech and steampunk for the win. and Thenardier as a slow-moving turtle of a tank it is. And thank you for noticing the rest of that question about Muozinel (did I spell it right this time? LOL) 3. A. Yeah, that is sort of the way i mean to play it, and it's a route I haven't gone before really - having a rival for Ranma who is SO FAR above him to be both rival and a target to measure himself against. B. Mayan, Incan, Atex are a lock. C. All of those are Buddhas now, and not actually in China. I was talking more about reincarnated people other than Cao-Cao. Perhaps another Ren...

vimesenthusiast

Stagnant is not how I would put it. Unchanging perhaps. Stagnant has negative connotations I don't think is warranted unless you look at the elven lands in terms of how they have shrunk from one Age to another.

vimesenthusiast

Harry might well never return to Mirkwood. He'll be in Galadriel's lands, but how long is a question.

Icarus

Yes was a bit of the dreaded autocorrect. She is an ancient historian. So don't know much about modern Egypt as not somewhere I have been yet. If you do have any questions with roman gods and deities I am happy to ask. She works mainly in republican Rome. So before Julius Caesar. She has colleagues that do other areas tho like the oracle and my personal favourite the portrayal of ancient history in video games

vimesenthusiast

1A. Next stage will be to introduce a think tank, and then have enough characters willing to ask the questions of 'does this work' or 'what happens if i do this'. LOL. Should be fun. 1C. Sad part is it's still with us in a massive portion of the world - except it's not normally about work any longer, but sex and power. It does bother Ranma a lot, but the problem is, in Bosco it was based on an economical thing - the salt mines, and the power of the various slavers. Here, slavery is part of the societal bedrock. Not certain Ranma has the tools to deal with that. Free a lot of slaves, maybe, but really change the society? And slave revolts are like peasant revolts. A whole lot of blood. Look at the Russian Civil war, or the rise of Stalin just as an example. 2&3. That's what I'm after right now. So, to the point: how crowded are the villages and towns? What are the people like, i suppose - i know that's vague, but it kind of has to be.. And what is the food like? Is it as bad as it is often portrayed in movies and TV shows away from the tourist areas? 3. Harry has no thirst for glory no. A thirst to explore, do what is right, yes. As for Harry/Tauriel, Everyone seems to agree that's a good idea, so with a few caveats, I can say it is a lock.

Tomon

3A) True with Bael. He loves the challenge. Not necessary the fight himself and he also seems to got his priorities straight :) Still he definitely gonna jump at a good chance to test himself, especially in combat scenario :) Which is very opposite of Kasumi. But otherwise I fully agree. And I didn't say they couldn't work, just that I didn't really see it. And he could work really well with Ranma as an actually FRIENDLY rival. And if he got hots for Kasumi and start to work on himself as well as to court her properly? Why not ;) 3B) Looking forward to it :) And the Buddhism sure mix things up. But the India original pantheon is something quite different and can be handled in very different ways. They can be seen as kinda overpowered if we take some of the concepts into account. 4) Even weirder? :-D What, is Harry the prisoner gonna take her as a hostage to mix things up? :-D Really curious now And female character... I guess there is always Shelob :-P You can pair her with so many males! (you want to get rid of)

Kariston Draconis

Oohh, thinking of bringing Ren-chan back? Haven't seen her since the DvC days. Yeah, she'd certainly fit the setting, and it'd be interesting to see how you bring her into the story this time.

i don't mind a slow or surprise romance, i was just complaining about the lack of stories with good interspecies romance. it seems to me that most authors (who aren't just writing porn without plot) mostly only want their characters with same species pairings, or close enough (things like were's and vamps that were once human, rather than truly being an alien species with different thought processes and cultures/perspectives, which tolkeins races do have) i also had a fun idea or two for other DxD mythologies. 1st, aliens. there are absolutely people who love and/or worship aliens, so who's to say they haven't creates some 'roswell alien' demigod pantheon or something 2nd, there are sapient non human entities within DxD, and not all of them necessarily belong to a pantheon. the best example of this is that the dragons actually had dragon gods, so you might be able to just wholesale make up alternate species deities. you could make the kraken be the god of giant squids, which are one fo the real world species considered to be intelligent enough to maybe be on the cusp of sapience. You could basically import/recreate shadowfax into DxD as the god of horses. some Native North Americans actually worshiped aspects of nature and animals without anthropomorphizing them beyond the ability to talk, so you could have a lot of demigod animals running around 3rd, scientology and other similar religions. maybe you could have a minor computer god pantheon starting to form that exists withint he internet, or in fact is the internet. if there is anything possible more widespread low-key worshiped than money, it is likely the internet, and there are plenty of mythological deities about money

Well if I go with Koneko perhaps as a love interest, then Ren wouldn't be much of a stretch. Or make her another sister figure. We shall see. It's just an idle thought at this point. WIth Kiba the only other male his own age that's going to stick around, I'm wondering if I should add in another male character to the main cast {Ranma, Rias, Saeko, Koneko, Akeno, Kiba, Kasumi, Asia, with Gabriel around occasionally, and Rika and Tajima joining soon} their age, or keep Mousse around and add another girl descended from a Chinese hero. It's up in the air to be sure - not important for at least four, maybe five chapters. - Remember that Issei is part of Sona's peerage, not Rias's.

I'm an avid King's and Generals and Epic History fan myself LOL

1. Yeah, you spelled it there right. ^^ 3. In canon besides Bikou, which I doubt you can use, there were no other mentioned (as far as I know of) besides those I've listed. Best bet would be checking the list https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Journey_to_the_West_characters and see besides Bikou and those I've listed if someone else from there takes your fancy. ;)

Personally, I'd vote for keeping Mousse around, especially if you're going the route of Mousse/Akeno. After all, Shampoo was the only real point of contention between him and Ranma, one-sided though it was. Heck, having someone else with a connection to Jusenkyo might even help Ranma develop his Chaos Magic system. Hmmm... Mousse as a legitimate DxD level powerhouse in his own right, and a loyal member of Team Ranma... As for another girl descended from a Chinese hero, why not combine that with the Ren idea? So instead of being the historical basis for Lu Bu, she's descended from him instead. She's still basically the same character, but with a slightly more modern twist. Cao Cao found her living in the woods with her friends, brought her into the Hero faction, and then Ranma ends up accidentally recruiting her to his side in a single meeting simply by being himself. She's definitely a love interest, she wouldn't really work as a little sister type character unless you make her younger than Koneko and Asia, 13 at the oldest in that case. Speaking of Koneko, well, you already know my thoughts on that side of things.

So, two caveats first. My information/memories of Egypt are from the time around 2000. I don't know when you've set your stories, so it might not be a perfect match. And second, I mostly stuck to the cites and towns, so villages I can't speak much about. Not, at least, aside from what little I saw when more or less passing through, or about the ones that sprung up around tourist sites, which probably aren't all that accurate a genearl feel. Having said that... So, a couple of generalities first, that might be helpful. The first...Egypt is basically a giant open-air museum. To the point that one of the towns/cities (Luxor) actually has that as it's 'nickname'. However, while Luxor is an extreme example, it's not all that muct more so than a lot of the rest of Egpyt. Bluntly put, there are ruins EVERYWHERE. Every city, every town, even those few villages I passed through? All of them have at least a few ancient walls, statues, pillars, or similar. To the point that even the archologists just don't bother with most of it. In part, this is because of just how very very LONG Egypt was a major power in the ancient world. However, there is another factor here that's important. That being the second general bit...which is a partial answer to one of your questions (regarding crowding). The Nile is everything. Period. The bullshit you see in movies about trekking out into the deep desert to find some ancient location is, in fact, almost entirely bullshit. While there are a few osasis's that make that statment very slightly untrue...the truth is that even in modern times 95% of Egypts population lives on the Nile. And that was even more true in ancient times than now, since they didn't have the capcity to bring in lots of water (not even for work crews to build thing). The Pyrimds, the Valley of Kings, all the major cities and towns, EVERYTHING is on the Nile river. Which leads to something predictable...population density is actually pretty high. Egypt has a population in the 100 million range, and it almost all lives along the Nile. I myself never travelled out the the oasises, so I can't say if it's true out there, but along the Nile cities/towns it was almost always somewhat crowded. Not horribly so in the smaller cities, but more than you'd expect in similarly sized towns in the U.S. or Europe. Small multistory houses, densly packed together, with most of the open areas actually being around ancient sites and such, kept open by rules against destroying them combined with the desire to draw tourists. While the handful of fishing villages and such MIGHT be different (I don't know) virtually all of the populated places I visited were pretty crowded. Food. Yes it's bad. In point of fact, it's actually pretty medicore even in tourist areas. I swear the hamburger I had at a resturant just across the way from a 5-star Hilton hotel HAD to have been antelope or something, not hamburger. Because it sure as heck didn't taste like beef. Inside tourist areas, it's usually all at least edible, and the DRINKS are just fine (a lot of bottled water and common sodas like Sprite and Coke were avialble pretty much everywhere). But it wasn't 'great' even in the nicer tourist places, and the farther you went from them the lower the quality was. Mind you, that Quality comment is important. Strictly speaking, the food isn't actually BAD so much as it's Low Quality. Imagine the loewest quality ground beef you've ever bought in the United State or Europe, then consider that the Highest Quality of meat you'll find outside high-end places catering to tourists. The actual dishes might be strange, but not bad...they just suffer BADLY from poor quality ingrediants. The people...that's a hard one. Technically, most of them tend towards being overly freindly to the point of it being horribly fake, at least when interacting with foreigners. And they badger everyone with 120% energy, making used car salesmen looks plebian and honest in comparison. More on that later, though. When/if you can manage to get past that, they seem to have only two states of esistence. Calm and hospitiable...and utterly...frenetic. That's the best word I can find for the them if you get the engaged with something. At rest they can be very calm, almost zen seeming, and very warm (assuming you're male, women have a more mixed experiance). But the moment they start doing...anything, they tend to turn in very fast talking, gesticulating, very excitable, directions. Not all are that way, of course, but it was startlingly common. The second to last generality I'll cover is this: it surprised me how many of the locals spoke at least broken English. In part, this has to do with it being an ex-colony of the UK. However, one of the local guides I spoke with at length explained there was/is another reason for it, which is most of the reason I mention it at all. According to him, there are actually SO MANY differant dialects of Arabic, that any two speakers of it might actually find it seriously hard to hold a conversation in Arabic with each other. Since Egpyt is sort of a mixing pot of Arabic speakers, drawing in a lot of non-natives from the middle east region due to it's properity, this is actually enough of an issue that a significant chunk of the population actually knows enough English to use it as a sort of trade language. The fact that tourism is such a huge part of their economy also has an influence, since the sterotypical picture of hustlers pawning things on gullible tourists is VERY accurate. They are EVERYWHERE, near EVERY historial site. If you're white, or otherwise forgein, you'll be fending off a constant, never-ending chain of souvineir peddlars. I'll never forget the sheer stupid number of times I got offered whole armloads of stuff in exchange for 'yankee doodle dollars.' And yes, they actually call American currency that. And, at least when I was there, they prefered it over Egyptian pounds. Like, by a lot. The constant stream of badggering is actually bad enough that some shops will put up 'No Badger' signs just to draw in people with the promise of NOT being badggered to death to buy things -_-. Lastly, something else on the subject of money...there is a huge stumbling block for most people visiting Egypt. Pretty much every local guide or experianced traveller will warn you about it. Namely, tipping (or what they call Backsheesh, though I rarely heard the word actually used there). It's actually a cultural thing, big time, and it's expected from not just toruists but locals, and in what we (westerners) would consder WEIRD places. Personally, the weirdist for me was the bathrooms. Most of the public ones have attendants, who you're expected to tip (very small amounts) in order to recieve a few squares of toliet paper from. Weirded me the heck out. But that was only the oddest example. Locals will happily tell you all about the history of a place (which may or may not be accurate) but expect a tip in exchange. Virtually anyone will give you directions, but it's considered common courtesy to tip them if they do. And they always prefer you to be non-obvious about it, simply folding a small bill in your hand and shaking theirs with it. I didn't believe it when I was first told, until I saw it all at work. It's everywhere, for everything. Thankfully, the amounts ARE small. Usually just 1 or 2 Egyptian Pounds (which were worth less than 1/3 a US dollar when I was there, and I think it's actually much worse now). Hmmm....ah. One more thing. Cairo. I have no idea if you intend them to have your characters visit Cario. However, it is a COMPLETELY different animal from the rest of Egypt, so I figured I'd mention that fact. Cairo is...imagine if New York had twice the population densitiy, the city planners had given up and were crying in a corner, a bottle of cheap rotgut in hand, traffic laws were barely suggestions, cops were armed with sub-machine guns and more like soliders than cops, and half the city looked like it would fall apart if you breathed wrong on it. That's Cario. Much like a city such a New York, the people of Cairo tend to be less friendly then those in the smaller cities, and far more...desperate. I felt reasonablly safe in most of Egypt. But far FAR less so in Cario then anywhere else. There's a lot of soliders scattered throughout the town...for good reason. It was the only part of Egypt that I felt genuinely unsafe leaveing the tourist areas. And the sheer sprawling oddness of the place was almost alien. It had it's modern buildings...right next to ones that were clearly built out of ancient sandstone blocks, looted from places like the pyramids. I'm not sure it wasn't an exaggeration, but a local guide there told me that something like a third of the older part of the city had been built out of materials like that, long before the pyramids had become a protected sight. That's...about all I can think of :-).

I don't have a problem with Harry spending time with the elves, just so long as he doesn't spend ALL of his time there. I love the idea of seeing some character development for Galadriel and the relationship you are talking about. Since Tauriel is movie only, her character was never really that fleshed out which gives you a lot of creative license there. I think her reaction will depend a lot on how things go down with the battle of 5 armies, or your equivalent, and Thranduils response. It's a lot easier to feel dutybound if you respect your leader, but thus far, Thranduil has been acting more like a spoiled child then a leader which doesn't do much to garner respect. I could easily see her traveling to another elven land, either because she wants to see more of the world after the events to come, or because she gets banished for some act of defiance like she did in the movies. However, I think it would take a lot longer for her to travel with Harry for any amount of time and it would depend a lot on what he was doing. Personally, I like the idea of her winding up in Fangorn forest somehow and being inspired like Legolas was. Maybe try to start a small elven community there, although that might be unrealistic given how unchanging elves are. It'd be interesting to see how they interacted with the ents. I like the idea of Harry in Gondor, although it would depend on how you did it. Harry would be important as a magic user which means he would have to deal with Denethor. By the way, I caught that hint about "changes at home". That has to involve the white council in some way, either because of the effects of their attack on Dol Goldur and the resulting change in the darkness for the forest as a whole, or if they take Thranduil to task in some way for neglecting his duties. I guess it could also involve an eventual relationship with the Dwarves at the lonely mountain or the humans at laketown following the battle, although I'm not sure that would qualify as "big changes. Hmmm... Oh well, I suppose I'll find out in due time.

Thank you for all this. It was precisely what I wanted to create the feel of Egypt as Harry and co. head there. I suppose a specific question would be an opinion: what would the reaction to Asia be there, do you think? And how should I play the Muslim aspect...

Novus

You're welcome, I'm glad it was useful! Fair warning...Patreon seems to have cut me off on my first attempt to reply. So if there's two comments, ignore the first (incomplete one) :-(. As to your specific question about Asia...there's two aspects of that. For the first one, timeline matters somewhat, as there was a pretty big upheval in Egpyt circa 2011, that caused some ongoing issues for women's equality there. I mention this not just for Asia, but for the other's traveling with Harry (since, from the bits of FILFY I've read, they are mostly women? I'm afraid I haven't read the other story at all and only skimmed parts of FILFY). Thankfully, because Egypt is tourism heavy, the government has (much like the United Arab Emirates with Dubai), largely come down HARD on attacks on foriegn nationals. However, despite that, women traveling ALONE in Cario specifically are likely to be verbally harassed to some degree. The rest of Egypt is less volatile in that regard, though there might occasionally still be very mild issues. Physical confrontation against foriegn women travelers is unlikely, thankfully (though that's sadly very much not true for locals). The aspect I think you were mostly asking about though would be the relgious bit. Which is...something I can't speak out from personal experiance, as I didn't advertise that I myself am Christian. Strictly speaking, religious freedom is assured by the Egyptian constitution, and Christianity IS the second largest religion in the country. However, that only amounts to around 10%, and the local Christian communities have had...trouble...with the government. Not from the top, so much as from the more local authorities. The trouble with your question about Asia specifically is that...I have no idea how the locals would react to someone openly displaying Christian faith. I also, as a reminder, haven't fully read either of your works and am only losely familar with the source material. If your Asia is wearing the nun outfits I've often seen her pictured it...the reaction might be negative to such a blantant display. Anything short of that, or of attempting to preach to the locals, she'd PROBABLY be fine, since she's a foreginer. They might not be happy with her, exactly, but probably wouldn't caused any real trouble. Of course, that's all based on our world. If Islam is your setting has it's own supernatural power structure...who the heck knows? I'm not even sure how that would WORK, from what little I know about DxD, since both religions technically follow the same God, but violently disagree on a lot of what that means, as well as what else to follow. SInce, as I understand it, one of the factions is DIRECTLY invovled with the church in DxD...how would that even work?
