Hello everybody, and welcome to 2021! Hope New Years treated you all well, and that you are staying happy and safe.

So, with that out of the way, I have to confess to some frustration. I wish I could say that I had a lot of Semblance done, and could finish it off no problem, updating that long forgotten story without slowing things down for January. I can’t.  I barely have 2,000 words of it finished bar the in depth outline.

Furthermore, I liked writing up Death’s Avenger. I thought it was fun and would love to continue it. I thought Heroes of the High Seasbefore that was fun. And I enjoyed getting back to GDWHOM. But that’s just it, I like all my stories, and I, being just one guy, do NOThave time for all of them.

It is therefore apparent that something needs to be done. And I think I have kind of stumbled upon a solution. The Homage Episodes, and my idea from back in November about posting smaller chapters. I like giving you all something mid-month, rather than at the end of the month in a large clump, and it is certain that I find smaller episodes easier to plan around my bigger works. So I think that the solution here it to replace the Homage Episodes with smaller, 10,000 -12,000 word Semblancechapters. And then after the story is finished, combining them into chapters and posting them over on fanfic.

NOTE: this doesn’t mean Semblance will become a CHYOA type story. It would just be smaller chapters, two per month.

Similarly, I could do it for Making Waves.  It is the closest Patron only story to completion. I would estimate six more 30-40,000 word chapters, or twelve smaller Episode type chapters. So when it doesn’t win the poll or isn’t a part of it (much more likely) I would keep the story going one month to the next. And after its done, I would add Heroesinto the rotation, and maybe pick up Death’s Avenger for the episode-sized updates.

A small addendum: If this idea goes forward, I would feel obligated to put my votes towards a random HP crossover work in the small story poll. That way my HP only fans would also be getting something every month.

SO tell me what you all think, both by voting, and if you have a larger opinion, with your words!

Honestly, I would say just write whatever comes to you. If you have to force something out it probably won’t be as good as if it were to come naturally. Let the votes influence what you try to produce but if it doesn’t happen just get to it when you can.

Dominic Jones

i voted for the Death Avengers option mainly because i find it far more interesting than semblance, i was a major fan of semblance back in the day but stopped following it after the town defense and the start of the train defense mission. I really enjoy making waves though i'm about 2 chapters behind, and i really enjoy your long chapter style. so I'm not excited by the idea of smaller chapters being added. I was also interested by the heroes of the high seas premise but no where near as much as Death's Avenger.

Masmher

Jeffrey is right just write what comes easy to you. I might prefer the homage storry and deaths avanger but i am not one to be mad if some other storry gets an update so long as I can count on an update of the storrys i read

MagisterdeVita

At the end of the day, do what's best for you. But, if you want to do the whole episodic thing and get through semblance and making waves so that you can get to heroes and avenger quicker, then I'm all for it. I am a firm believer that some new blood material should be implemented going forward. And I am very excited for heroes as well. So whatever route that you need to get there quicker I am all for it!

Titan7

I do like Semblance of Hope. But I really want Heroes of the Sea to continue. Hopefully, the story can be finished and Heroes of the Sea can be added into rotation. If that makes sense. Though hopefully in the future you do more RWBY stories.

Lucien Dauntes

I enjoy all your stories, so I feel bad saying it, but I would prefer Death's Avenger over Semblance. Either way though, thanks for your work. :)

Morde24

I voted for deaths Avenger , because as much as I love Semblance and think the new format you suggested would be sick, Deaths Avenger makes me feel like a kid in a candy store. WoW/HP corssoverers are easily in my top2 categories and I can't wait to see more of what you do with it.

NerdLord2nd

Vote episodic route for semblance, there is a reason which I believe that your writing style that semblance constantly has such poor showings on the fanfic votes. That is the fact that you likely get very few from anyone coming into it from the rwby side of the crossover. Ranma 1/2 style relationship building does not mesh well with the unfortunately quite toxic at times shipping community that is a large portion of the RWBY fam base. Really do want you to reach an acceptable for you wrap up point on that story cause it is one of the best Fanfiction stories I have ever read

Alejandro Kalansky

I do not think you should stop either Semblance or Homage Episodes even if they came slower

Zolkrath

I agree with the comments that people have already said/written above. Love your stories, and when the teaser came out - I was ecstatic about it because I love the WoW lore and I couldn't wait to see what you could do with it. Which is why I voted for dropping Semblance - because while I enjoy it, I would prefer Death's Avenger. Either way, do whatever is best for you because after all, you are only one person. I hope you had a great new years! And can't wait to read more of your chapters/stories, no matter what they are!

frank schellingerhout

i voted for death story's am an hp story lover never could get into the whole ranma thing

Jeffrey Smith

I would vote to finish Semblance than bring in Death Avenger. But I would also say get rid BG and replace that with DA.

Delphinous

the problem is that i love all your stories and want to see them all done, so i can't say 'drop X to focus on Y' i think it would be great to get smaller mini-chapters of semblance, making waves, and the rest

Dray Houston

I feel you should write whatever brings you happiness rather than force a story out that doesn't interest you as much to cater to your audience. Thankfully you don't have that issue as you don't write anything that doesn't float your boat. That said, I don't have the same interest in RWBY that I once did after the direction the story took and it unfortunately affected my interest in the fandom as well. So while I'll still read Semblence if you're putting it out, I can't say I care all that much one way or another.

Tomon

This post sure ECHOES with me a lot :-D Usual Patreon problems with text? :) Anyway as I often say - do as you wish yourself. You can can my 'votes' towards your preference ;)

Megaslayer321a

So outside of the stuff you do that is related to shows/manga I have never watched and have no interest in I like all your works. My vote is to finish Semblance either in small or large chapters, just so that you can get it done and move onto other things you get more enjoyment out of, assuming of course you don't consider it a chore, my vote for this is also based on my interest in the story. If I'm being perfectly honest I would love for some more Stallion of the Line as the cliffy you left us on is really getting to me. And as someone who plays WoW and grew up playing WC2&3 I would love to see more of Death's Avenger, no matter how much you are going to deviate from the original story.

Narsil

I voted for tiny episode-like blurbs of Semblance until it's done--not because I'm interested in Semblance, I'm not, but because I know how frustrating an unfinished fanfic can be, both as a reader and a writer. You've been pretty good at finishing your stories, I'd like to see that habit continue. And I'm REALLY looking forward to Death's Avenger.

Novus

So, first...the post has issues. You appear to have copy-pasted the text and it's repeating itself. You might want to fix that so the post is more coherent... Now, about the actual question. Frankly, I find Semblance to be the most boring of your works that I actually read. (As you might remember, I only skim FIFLY and i don't read GDWHOM at all). On the other hand, I love the Homage Episodes, and liked both Heroes of the High Seas and Death's Avenger. I would hate to see you drop the Homage episodes in favor of what is, for all intents and purposes, your least popular story. That seems silly. And, as much as you may not enjoy the reminder, it would hardly be the first story you dropped for various reasons. The Effect of a Horse and a Dragon comes to mind. At the end of the day, unless YOU enjoy writing it, I'd say the better option is to simply drop Semblance in favor of what you DO enjoy currently. The worst possible outcome, after all, is for you to burn out by trying to force something you aren't invested in. That way lies infinite stress for you, decreased quality for us (forced writing is never as good), and the chance that you end up driven away from writing at all....

Southmonk

Really looking forward to deaths avenger and some others too, but honestly youre the god here, but alot of commenters i agree with. That you should write what you want to prevent yourself from getting burned out. Thanks for all the great wonderful stories so far!

CementCANOE

I really enjoyed Death's Avenger, and I am looking forward to more. I have also enjoyed the Homage episodes. However, I understand wanting to finish a project, so do whatever is best for you.

Patrick Gloria

Really liked the deaths story, but would rather see semblance finished in "mini" chapters, and then get to see more hp/wow goodness. At the same time I would like to see more of the CYOA homage, so mabey do one semblance and one homage alternating or how ever that would work best for you. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of your work and would be happy however you do it. I know I definitely like the large chapters as they give me something rather dependable to read and enjoy for an hour or so, searching through for stories that I have not read yet that are long enough to last any real amount of time is difficult. Regardless of what you decide I wish you the best in this new year and can not wait for what enjoyment you will bring to me and others in the coming year.

Thomas Edwards

I've really enjoyed your Homage episodes so far, given how few great Foz stories there are nevermind with a strong Henrietta as a main pairing, you managing to get such great quality for what is essentially you taking a break from your large writing, just goes to show how good an author you are lol. Despite that I agree with others that you should use the small mid-month chapters to write what you want and helps you to refresh and feed your muse. If you feel you really want to get a small chapter of semblance out, go for it! If you feel like you have a new episode you just have to get written, great! So long as you are happy with it, then do what you want to do.

Darth Bayes

I liked Death's Avenger a lot (and would love to see more), but one thing really bothered me. Death felt more like a plot device than a character, and if she's going to be recurring I really think you should work out far more precisely her desires and limitations, and then go back and make some edits to that section.

Jacob White

So when I joined in 2017 you had a vote about how you should do the voting for story priority. I still say that you should have a dealers choice story every month. One vote for which patron story to update, one vote for an everyone story that goes on fanfiction, then the last update you choose what you want. If that means we get the same story updated six months in a row cause your muse sticks with it great. Mostly though it would be perfect for all the less popular stories you have when you get the itch to go back to them you won’t have to wait for the votes to choose those.

Wrandral

I honestly love most of your stories but i feel it'd be better to try to focus on those that are almost finished to free yourself up. Maybe try to have a chapter of one of those almost finished stories by default each month without voting influence?

vimesenthusiast

Yeah, but what other stories would suffer for it? That has always been the problem.

Bt

Its not that i dont care its that ive come to like the homeage series more.

vimesenthusiast

Huh. Can I ask why you find Semblance boring? is it the RWBY universe or the fights against the hordes of Grimm - i have to admit that aspect annoys me too, the need to write so much defensive battles against uncounted grunts. I dropped Effect simply because my muse died on me. I still haven't gotten back into ME fanfiction. I might after one or both of my SW crossovers are done, but the universe itself isn't interesting enough to grab my attention. My muse for Semblance is... waning. There just aren't enough stories which include Pyrrha that are still being updated any longer. That's the honest truth. And the direction RWBY went after the second season is just pure crap. It's worse than Bleach. But my muse is still alive, and I have always enjoyed the characters of RWBY so I would like to finish it. I think it will depend on how well the I also have really loved the homage episodes, Henrietta is such a great character - like Padme but without the self-destructive tendencies LOL.

vimesenthusiast

That's a good idea! - alternating. I will see how that works out. This poll is going to continue until I have finished and sent off the next chapter of Remodel.

vimesenthusiast

Don't know if we cou;d call any of them 'almost finished'. Semblance is closest in terms of words to be written and commitment of time, but even it would take at least half a year to finish if i concentrated the small story type on it.

vimesenthusiast

Can I ask why you stopped liking it? Was it the romance switch?

vimesenthusiast

Heroes will be added to the patron only rotation after Making Waves is finished. That is a lock. Whether it will be alone is the question.

vimesenthusiast

LOL. Understood. I too cackle in not-at-all cherubic delight at the world building I can do in that universe.

vimesenthusiast

I have heard about the toxis shipping community before, but I've never dealt with it. I don't know why none of the toxic crowd have noticed my story, but I can only be thankful for it.

vimesenthusiast

So you would be happy with half-and half - two episodes a month, one each of the homage and Semblance?

vimesenthusiast

Not going to happen. I love the characters of BG - Minsc and Jaheira especially - too much for that. I think I would get to that position soon in Death's Avenger, but I'm not there yet.

Alejandro Kalansky

Yes. Or you can alternate; or the almost finished story first to relase more time. It is a waste to drop good stories before they are done

Scott

I think that the most important thing is to write what makes you happy. This may sound altruistic, but trust me its not. I’m a big fan of your work, and I’d like to see it continue for as long as possible, so the last thing I want is for you to burn yourself out writing something when your muse isn’t there just so that you can keep your fans happy. That being said I will admit that the most frustrating thing about you is that you almost never finish your stories. Given that the reason is because you keep on starting new ones, it’s hard to be too upset about it, but it does get pretty annoying after a while. Therefore, my preference would be to have an ongoing arrangement where you pick the story that is closest to completion (whether that be semblance or something else) and publish a mini chapter of that story every month until it is completed while keeping it out the normal polls. This way, the readers will get regular content as the story reaches its climax, and you can actually finish a few of your stories without having a major effect on your normal content. Once you finish 1-2 of them, then you can start up Heroes or Deaths Avenger, or whatever else makes you happy. Also, I would be remiss if I didn’t say that if you do start a new story, I would definitely vote for Deaths Avenger. To be honest, it was very difficult for me not to choose option B above, because I am VERY interested in seeing what you do with that story. I found the outline that you posted for it a few months ago after I read the first chapter, and that combined with what you've already written sounds awesome!

Zoma

I prefer Death's Avenger over Semblance, but it's probably better to finish off something old before getting too invested into something new. I dropped the Homage episodes pretty early on.

Dominic Jones

i can't quite remember, hazy memories say that it may have been the change in story direction? there was a lot going on that I liked but that, plus some of the AN's about where the story was going and the infrequent updates made me lose interest despite the story being in my top 3 when it first started, if/when you finish it I may go back and finish reading though. But again, Death's Avenger caught my complete attention so I would probably vote for it over literally all of your other stories despite loving a lot of them.

Hiryo

Waaaah not finishing Ranma story and getting non-Ranma story instead!

Novus

Hmmm, patreon seems to have deleted my reply T-T. I'll wait a bit and see if it shows back up, since it was a long one. I'll recreate a summarized version later if it doesn't -_-.

Novus

Well, since my original comment vanished. Here's the summarized version. No, it's not the RWBY universe that's the issue, at least not entirely, but... 1) The single biggest issue actually is, sort of, the universe. Specifically...that there's no goal. The constantly defensive battles you mentioned are actually just a side effect of this. Unlike all of your other stories, there's no plan, no goal, no end game. Not from the character's perspective (Excluding Ozpin, but they don't KNOW about his shenanigans). They aren't trying to defeat the Grimm, only survive them. They aren't working toward something. There's no One Ring to throw in the fires of mount door, ancient order of evil space wizards to outmaneuver, no ultimate treasure to hunt or government to rebel against. Without a goal...the whole story is basically reactionary. The characters wandering around making no real difference, with no real plan, getting attacked at random. 2) I think you made a major error with Beni. Whose name I properly looked up for the first comment, but couldn't be bothered to a second time. And...that's the problem. It's not that splitting off Ranma's curse was a bad idea. It's been done before successfully. But it seems to have been a bad idea FOR YOU and with this particular story. The new character you created by doing so is completely flat and unmemorable. She doesn't have any real influence on the plot, and doesn't offer much in the way of interaction throughout the story either. Meanwhile, by doing what you did, you removed one of the most useful tools of the Ranma fanfiction toolbox. The Curse acts as conversational lubricant. I went into more detail the first time, but this time...just look at how you use it in A Horse for the Force. It acts as a way to generate instant, unique chemistry been Ranma and Shak-to, and adds flavoring to the encounter between him and Dooku. Then there's the laughing effect in the force, which acts as a tool for you to alter and shift interactions all throughout the story. Whether you've every conciously considered it or not...you make HEAVY use of the curse as a tool to move story elements along and flavor scenes that would otherwise be too close to simply cannon repeats. It's absence in Semblance would have been fine, if you replaced it with a fully-filled-out character in Beni...but you didn't. So you took a unique element out and replaced it with essentially nothing. 3) The RWBY universe is just plain a terrible fit for your writing style. You specialize in 'For Want of a Nail' or 'What if' type of divergences. In fact, you're probably the single best active fanfiction writer for that type of fic. Unfortunately, RWBY doesn't lend itself to that. Where you normally run straight off the rails and cheerfully keep going full steam in most fandoms....in RWBY you seem to be unable to pull that off. You change events, certainly...but despite you doing so, you end up nailed back down to cannon events and scenarios, with things all to often feeling like Cannon + Ranma with nothing really added by Ranma being there. ------------- The homage episodes on the other hand...I've never even SEEN familiar of Zero and you've made me fall in love with Henrietta's character. I think they are much more 'you' and they certainly are far more entertaining :-). As a last note, I'd originally mentioned a fic called Of Forge Fire and Monster Parts, as a recent story I like with the RWBY characters. But, the relevance of the comment didn't really fit with the summarized comment. I just wanted to mention it again anyway, since despite not having Pyrrha (sorry), it's a good example of a fun RWBY cross. Even if it's set in a very odd choice of a crossover world ;-). It's pretty well-written, so you might glance at it if you're looking for something to read. Also, sorry if this comment is poorly edited T-T. I took like forty minutes on the first one but don't have that kinda of time to spare after Patreon killed it T-T.

Chris

Honestly the problem with Semblance is you have so many good stories it's competing with them for votes...and RWBY just isn't as popular a franchise as the others you write in. It's definitely one of my favourites that you write...but you put it up against those stories I like just that little bit more...so the idea of smaller snippet chapters until it gets finished sounds great.

Razgriz0x

My only concern, is that others will think that you end Semblance too early in the canon timeline. I understand that Semblance will most likely end around the Vital Festival, with maybe an epilogue, but others may complain that you didn't finish it/left too many loose ends. Peraonally, I believe the canon went to crap after the vital festival and should be considered one big screw up. But that's just me. Hoping to see Semblance wrapped up this year. Happy New Year!

vimesenthusiast

I agree, as a franchise RWBY has issues. They really missed the forest for the trees, as it were, after the second season. If they had just kept it lighthearted, and kept concentrating on the characters... well, that's the point really. I rather like the characters. Pyrrha, Ruby, and the rest. The world may suck, but i like the characters, just like i enjoy using Saeko from HOTD. As for the smaller snippets, that looks like it's going to be the winner - won't know until i weigh the poll, but we will see. The issue will then be to see if I should use both monthly snippets on it, or it and something else...

vimesenthusiast

Vytal festival isn't even on my radar. Why would it be? That's in Vale, and the story has moved away from that city. Although i agree with you on the festival being the start down the toilet LOL. I think what I might do it end Semblance after Ranma and team JNPR are finished in Mistral. By that point there will have been a lot of revelations, Salem will have lost several of her pieces, and Ranma and Ozpin will have had a 'sincere' discussion between them. At that point, it will seem a natural place to end 'Season 1' of the fic. MAYBE. We will have to see

Razgriz0x

Ah, well either way, seeing this wrapped up will be nice. Hopefully we'll see an end to the canon series too... but I've basically given up hope that it will be a 'good' ending.

Gappler

semblance is really my only dip other than a basic bit of info into RWBY, so id be happy to see it continue in any format.

Arkos Sloth

Smaller story posts is fine. Whatever helps you write, honestly. I'm here to support you. Do whatever makes you comfortable.
