Hey all, so um... it occurred to me that posting the small story poll would be silly.  Both HP choices for it have yet to be updated this month so I'd have to not put in a teaser type summary, or just shout SPOILERS and assume it would work.

The same can be said for one of the patron only poll choices - Bhaalson Remodel.  I'm still debating what to do there with Making Waves being on-hold.  To say that threw off my plans is to put it mildly.

I will need to wait and see how you all take Viconia as a character.  I think I have started to build her character in the correct manner, but we will see.

Magic is done.  I read through the Padme/Harry/Aayla conversation and basically rewrote it, but it will be up at the end of the month.

Anyway, I had a few questions I wanted to pose to you all.

First are a few general ones:

1. Recently I have noticed that I have been getting asked the ol' are you a human CAPTCHA thing when going to fanfic.  Not all the time, but at least a few times daily.  Is anyone else getting that, or is it just me?

2. Further, is everyone still generally happy with Fanfic? I still don't see if I have a pm over there, and we all know there've been issues with seeing new chapters sometimes.

So I have been wondering about jumping ship to AO3 again.  Especially given my little foray into using pictures. Heck I could even put in direct links to music, which could be really good (especially for the next chapter of ATP).  But I am still wondering if it would seem too much like I'm trawling for more patrons.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, one for my ATP fans: It has come to my attention that I I have made several mistakes in the last few chapters.  I have also made mistakes in the past in this fic, and I am not just talking about how I have tried to use comic book time instead of real time.

So, I am wondering if the fic would be better served by me going back and making changes now, or if I should wait until the end and then do it then... when I might lose all enthusiasm for the project LOL.

------------------------- (new separater style folks)-----------------------------

And a few for my Ranma fans.

1.  Horse for the Force.  It lost again.  Now, normally, I would put this down to the whole Ranma/HP divide.  But it has lost to other Ranma fics before.  So should I take up , GDWHOM, instead of Horse for the Force going forward until Magic of the Force is done?

2. What has everyone thought about Climbing Together replacing Making Waves in the patron only poll?  I am debating between following that, or using the idea of the two smaller episode choice I did before with DA and SOH.  SOH would be one of them, and the other would be my old Addventure Homage story.

-------------------------------------------------------

I have a few HP questions, but only a few aren't spoilers at this point.

1. Politics.  in Magic of the Force we have had to see a lot of politics so far, and there is still more in the future.  Is it an interesting or important enough part of the world building that I need to continue to show it (in this case, the creation of the GDL congress, Padme taking part in important Senate meetings) or should I just summarize that stuff and only show the most personally important to the characters?  An example of that would be when Ryloth votes to join the GDL in a few months... and what it might mean...

2. Espionage versus space battles, which aspect of the war of the Sith is the most interesting?  This is more of a 'if I need to crunch the chapter down' kind of question rather than asking as a part of the world building.

Beyond that, I will have more questions after Fate and Magic are updated.  I have also decided to see which is more interesting, King of Champions or Bhaalson Remodel, next month in the Patron Only poll.

As always, thanks for sharing your thoughts with me guys, and please, if you have something you want to talk to me about, concerns, ideas, concepts, feel free to drop me a PM.

Personally, I would prefer AO3 over FFN. As a reader, not writer, I just find it easier to use. AO3 is also MUCH less likely to get stories deleted for what are, in IMO, retarded reasons.

William.B

On the editing of ATP, I would prefer it be finished, then edited. Why? I frequently see authors lose their enthusiasm to finish a story once they start editing it. That said, I'm a reader, so whatever you decide is fine with me. GRIN

Ghostviper

So as far as the FF question goes, I really like the mobile app of the site, which is why I would prefer it if you continued to post there. On the other hand there is the question of why not just post on both sides instead of choosing?

William.B

Both sites... a very good point that I forgot. Thumbs up! Of course it would be more work for our illustrious author, so his opinion might vary from ours... GRIN

Stars90

I personally am very happy with the political situation descriptions in MOF.

Ghostviper

I honestly have no idea how much work this is, as I am just a reader as well. On a related note, does ao3 have an official mobile app or is it browser only?

NerdLord2nd

Politic scenes in Magic Of the Force make for very good world building since one of the driving forces in that story is the fact you created a third side in what was originally a two sided war

Askeller8

AO3 for sure. It's a lot more reader friendly, doesn't have the ad problem ffn does, and you don't have to worry about the captcha.

Kariston Draconis

CAPTCHA? Nope, haven't had to prove I'm human even once. Might be something only affecting creators? FF vs AO3? As others have pointed out, both is an option, and personally I'd say it's the best option. You can take advantage of AO3's features without alienating your FF only fans. As a reader, I find that FF is alot easier to navigate, but the content rules are alot more relaxed at AO3. Horse vs GDWHOM? Gods, that's probably the toughest question you've ever asked, at least in my opinion, since out of all your unfinished public Ranma stories those two would be my current favourites. Maybe if you switched between them every three months until Magic is done? Just a thought. Climbing vs Waves? Honestly, Climbing would be the one Ranma story I don't really care about, I've never been a fan of the Shampoo pairing.

Delphinous

general questions: not really. it has to authenticate me sometimes, but it hasn't asked me to do a CAPTCHA 2, i prefer fanfic to AO3, mostly because it has much better support for me to search for stories and record and trackt he ones i'm interested in. they also have a crazy 'ask for an invitation' process tog et a membership or login that takes ages, and i've tried to get in over a month ago and still haven't done it, so while i'd say you can certainly use AO3, id prefer if you didn't also leave FF for ATP, if your changes are smoothing our wrinkles and correcting small continuity errors, i'd say go for it now. if you're going to make major changes that would affect the plotline of the story, then maybe hold off, because i've heard about other authors trying to do such, and basically having to end up rewriting nearly everything for Ramna, i don't really care, i prefer Horse of the Force but also like GDWHOM and will be hapy whichever gets updated secondly, i prefer the episode style option for HP 1 i would say that a major part of what makes magic of the force fun for me is the politics and nation building so i would want that to continue. 2 i would say that i prefer space battles over espionage, because i generally find espionage boring to read about, because it's usually a lot of words to read with very little happening then some breakthrough and quick resolution

Clarence Grant

I like fanfiction. I'm very happy with climbing together.

General: 1. Not yet, at least. Lots of cloudflare annoyance though, especially because the redirect page isn't dark mode. 2. Eh, it's ok? Spacebattles/sufficientvelocity could be another option, they allow more formatting than either FF or AO3 afaik. Like colors, fonts, invisitext, tables, and markdown in general. I also like the feedback community, though feel free to ask other authors too. I don't see why trawling for more patrons would be a bad thing? The more patrons you have, the more you make and the less you have to worry about anything other than writing. Ranma: No comment, other than that I like Making Waves. HP: 1+2+General: Personally (selfishly, but I suspect statistically supported) I think you should write for the people who read the story in huge chunks long after they are written, rather than the people reading each chapter as it is written. So making the story interesting, well-flowing, and well-paced is much more important than making every single chapter interesting, well-flowing, and well-paced. 1+2+General: If we are still here, we probably agree with you (e.g. stylistically)--write what you think is more interesting and better for the story, and not only will we probably agree it will probably come out better (decide on a case by case basis). 2. I can't say that I'm good at crunching things down, but...do you really need/want to crunch things down? Both are interesting, the story is interesting, most of my votes/advice seem to boil down to "you're the writer, not me, I trust your judgement" Random recommendation: Never Die Twice, and Void Herald's other work. All are good, and interesting, and quite different. I like Underland.

JustAnotherFan217

Oof that’s a tough call on the Ranma stories, love them both. Personally I think you should alternate. Do HOF and Filfy in one poll, GDWHOM and Magic of the Force in a different month, alternating.

JustAnotherFan217

Honestly, I love all of it. Politics, espionage, big space battles…I think as cliche as it sounds, you should try and find a good balance that lets you focus on all three. Love you stories!

Kalen D

Why not post to both FF and AO3 unless it is too much trouble due to different formatting issues? I used to love FF.net - especially with their app on Google Play allowing me to favorite and download stories. However, I like how much easier it is to download and keep stories locally with AO3. As for Horse vs GDWHOM, I love both and thus would be happy with whichever you choose. In Magic of the Force I'd prefer more of the space battles and world-building politics with less focus on espionage. And I much prefer Bhaalson Remodel over King of Champions.

Kirk Staley

ATP question- come back to it after the end. Have a beta reader double check your fiction. As for ao3, please do! We will like to see fan art!

Logan

Really sad making waves is on hold and I understand the reason why. GDWHOM is great so I would love to start that up in lieu of horse for the force. But I know you wanted to wait on filfy to finish. Could you pick up Sword bow and horse? I vote espionage over space battles and I enjoy the politics but summaries are nice. I use AO3 all the time. I don’t see a reason to not post on both and you should trawl for more Patreons,

Cory Nydam

When comes to FF vs AO3, I don’t really care much. I personally prefer writing on FF, just because it’s what I’m familiar with, but it is definitely showing it’s age. As far as editing ATP goes, I haven’t noticed anything that cripples the story. It’s already such a behemoth, I think finishing it would be best at this point. I’d rather see where the story goes than get quality of life improvements on already released chapters. With MOF, I think the politics are a little to much the focus of the story. They’re interesting, certainly, in a history textbook sort of way, but I would recommend, if it doesn’t serve character development or directly further the main plot, summarize what you can. The whole point of SW politics is that they’re insanely complicated and mired in absurd bureaucracy. You’ll never be able to adequately show that directly without simultaneously bogging down the story, so show how the characters react to it. In terms of combat, I feel the espionage is more engaging than the space battles. Your naval battles tend to get a little lost in the minutiae of tactics and technology. It’s an impressive level of detail, but readers can only experience a battle at the pace of their reading. I read very fast, and I still find the space combat slow and unwieldy compared to the ground fights. Espionage scenes give better suspense and more chances for character development.

Askeller8

Sometimes when you open ffn there will be big ad breaks in between every other line making it unreadable

frank schellingerhout

1 get the question sometime's other time's not 2 ATP wait till the project is done and take a breather from it before trying to fix items. 3 would always be fun to see more politics in magic of the force with some spy action from side oc's ?

SliferMK2

Same mood as the rest of the comments' consensus on the matter. I prefer FF.net because it is put together better, has a slick mobile app, is easier to search a story you want and easy to get on contact with an author of you want to chat. Might be best to use both Ao3 and FF.net, I know a good percentage of my friends only read your content t through there. Therefore continuing to post the and not alienating you FF.net audience while also publishing other copies of the ideas on Ao3 is broadening your horizons in terms of places to deliver the story. It also serves as a backup in case some legal or logistical error ends up kneecapping FF.net

Jeffrey Smith

I’m generally happy with ff but I also have an ao3 account. Fixing whatever mistakes you see on atp should be after it’s done. The timing thing has always bothered me. It seems like all this should have happened over 3years or more instead of the 15 months or so it has now.

Jeffrey Smith

3. Separating the 2 SW ficus sounds like a good idea.

Dion

I prefer reading on AO3 and so absolutely wouldn’t mind if you moved to ao3 or started crossposting And for editing ATP I think editing before you finish it is the best idea And for MOF I love the politics

averagejoe32

Personally, I think Ao3 is more convenient at least for web readers. As for replacing Horse for the Force with GDWHOM, I'm not quite sure, though I would lean towards yes. As for Climbing Together vs Making Waves, after doing a quick reread, I think Climbing Together is the more interesting of the two stories. Though I did have a quick question, just how fast are Ranma and Genma traveling as they seem to go from Jusenkyo which is somewhere in Qinghai province so Northwest China to hitting the coast, and the swimming up to Japan quite quickly. To put this in numbers Qinghai is at least 1000 plus miles from the coast, and then even if they they only swim the width of East China Sea that's 360 Nautical Miles in 4 hours, that equals 103.57 miles an hour. A more realistic swim say from Shanghai to Kyushu, adds nearly 200 nautical miles to that distance. Also I know that whole Combat Style Shibari thing was probably, a one off joke, but I'd love to see Ranma run into an actual Hojojutsu practitioner and then have Ranma mention Shibari only for people to stare at him in horror.

Alamar Xandal

Topic 1 1 I'm not getting the capta thing myself 2. I'm good with fanfic and enjoy it's dark mode, but I'm more than willing to try another site provided I can get a link to it Topic 2 1. I'm good for either, but I feel that (unfortunately), Horse for the Force just isn't going to win against Magic of the Force any time even remotely soon, so go ahead and switch it for GDWHOM, maybe that one will have a better chance 2. I would love to see more of Climbing together, that one was really good

zagan

Fanfic: I didn't have any trouble on the site recently. Never any captha but sometimes I got a message that I must wait 5s before charging the pages. ATP: NO, don't touch it. It doesn't matter, going back to edit is always a fool errand. We lost too many writers that tried that. It sapped all their motivation. Horse for the force: No I like that one and I'm not reading GDWHOM (too many setting I didn't know anything about, nothing related to your writting skills) Climbing: Not sure I really like the first chapter but I'm also curious about what will happen in MW. But I like the idea of a small SoH chapter + Adventure. Magic: It's an aspect that I like, I think you can keep it. Magic2: I would prefer more spying, it more original than more fighting.

Novus

General Questions: 1. CAPTCHA thing: No, I haven't seen this popping up. However, I have noticed that their ad structure has changed in a SUPER ANNOYING way, dropping ads in the middle of chapter text, which is INCREDIBLY annoying on mobile. 2. No, I'm kinda pissed with Fanficion, net because of the aforementioned ad restructure. I've been using Ao3 more and more recently, even if there are sadly still fewer works there. ATP: Honestly, nothing is hugely wrong with it and I really just want you to be done with it so you can work on other stuff. So...procrastinate for the win! And if it never gets done...oh well! Ranma Questions: 1. GDWHOM is the only one of your fics I've never read. I've tried a couple of times, but between my dislike of DxD for personal reasons, and the fact that Ranma just didn't make the greatest mix with it in my opinion, I've never been able to force myself to read more then the first few chapters. I'd be happier if you spontaneously forgot it existed tomorrow, so my opinion should be clear on this... 2. I'll be honest. I don't like Shampoo. Which makes Climbing Together a hard sell for me. That said, I did actually read it so far and don't hate it. I'd honestly personally vote for you working on nearly anything else, with the exception of GDWHOM. I would cheerfully vote for Climbing Together over that every single time. Just to decrease the odds of GDWHOM winning anything. Harry Questions: 1. Politics are the root of all evil. I understand that they are a part of this particular story and you've done a good job with them. However, I think you've honestly pushed too much of the politics to being central to the story as is, with the result that reading it has turned into something of a grind for the last few updates. A grind which isn't actually progressing the story at anything like a decent rate either, which makes it worse. Contiuning to include critical high points is fine...but for the love of God, Gravity, and Boobs, please tone it down a little. 2. Space battles are fun, but they are best as a seasoning rather than a major feature. They are complex and, if drawn out too much, hard to follow without some sort of visual. I'd go with the sneaky spy time over fleets hammering each other as being more interesting.

Bryan Brown

G2) I don't have an issue with FanFic but if you do and want to switch do so and if anyone implies you are fishing for patrons laugh in thier face. After all there would be nothing wrong if that was what you were doing. R1) I have always like GDWOM better so I would love for it to be back. R2) I Prefer Climbing togther to Making Waves. Of the choices you offered it is the one I would vote for every time. H1)How you have been covering poltics in MofF is great. I do not see the need for any changes. H2)In cannon SW the war is a distraction while the esponiage is the real threat. Has the addition of the GDL changed that? If yes then priortise battles, If no esponiage.

AlexisVA

Well as a mostly audio user I prefer Fanfic.net mobile app that let's me listen to the stories that you have written. Though I know that I'm just the minority there.

Scott

G1: I get the CAPTCHA sometimes, but when I do, I just refresh the page and it goes away. G2: I like the fanfic site and would prefer if you didn’t switch. I will still follow your stuff regardless though. ATP 1: ATP is basically your magnum opus, so If I was in your shoes, I would probably want to fix it. That said, doing so is really for the benefit of new readers, not the ones who have already read through everything. Personally, I don’t mind if you do it, unless it takes an exorbitant amount time and affects future updates. R1: Horse for the Force all the way! I’m a big fan of that fic, whereas GDWHOM is one of the few I don’t follow. I actually like it more than Magic of the force, and almost always vote for it when the two go head-to-head. R2: I’m not interested in Climbing Together or the old Adventure Homage. SOH, DA, or King of Champions would all be fantastic. That’s said, write what you are interested in. As much as I'd like you to focus exclusively on my favorites, I'm more interested in making sure you maintain your enthusiasm for writing so that you don't burn yourself out. I’m going to go on a bit of tangent here so feel free to ignore this. I’ve been a long-time reader of yours, for both HP and Ranma. That said, the actual Ranma anime is something that never interested me, and I still know next to nothing about the characters or world for that show. I still like most of your Ranma fics, but I generally see Ranma as an original character created by you, and in that sense, the stories are great. I’ve always placed crossovers in 1 of 3 categories, all of which you have written: Memory, Character, and Full. Memory crossovers would include things like Stallion of the Line and Wild Wolf. Character Crossovers would include things like ATP and Horse for the Forse, and Full Crossovers would include things like FILFY Teacher. I’m guessing you can figure out the definitions of each of them from that. In general, I find full crossovers to be the least interesting, because to me the whole point of a crossover is that the main character has skills/abilities/knowledge that is unique to them. Not necessarily better, just unique. This does not usually apply in a full crossover, although there are certainly exceptions (FILFY). Anyways, the point is, as someone who is not interested in the Ranma universe, full crossovers for Ranma are very difficult to read and not particularly interesting to me. I don’t know how common that is, but I am certain, that there are more people who have a full knowledge of HP than they do of Ranma. One of the selling points of your Ranma fics (at least for me) has always been how easy most of them are to read, even for someone who doesn’t know anything about the Ranma anime. HP1: I think the politics are important, but it does bog down the story quite a bit. I’m okay with you summarizing it as you described, as long as the important stuff isn’t glossed over. HP2: I would probably go with Espionage if given the choice. I’m usually a huge battle fan, but I have some trouble following space battles, even those as well written as yours.

General Questions: 1. CAPTCHA: Personally I havent run into this though I've heard a few others have. 2. I'm happy with whichever option, though if you are planning to use more vid links/ pictures then I would say start looking into a transfer/crosspost since I've found Ao3 to be much better for that. A Third Path: I'd say don't go back and edit yet since given how long a fic it has become I don't see that being anything other than a herculean task that would be better off done in small bits and pieces. Ranma: 1. This kind of ties into my answer for Magic but I'd say leave it since it gives a good alternative when we would rather see the small scale compared to the large lol. 2. I'm torn since I love all the options tbh lol, but I'd say go where your muse feels like for it, if you feel like you want to write small episodes for a while instead go for that, if you like the idea of Shampoo/Ranma and all the possible chaos and martial arts for Climbing go for that. Nothing has to be set in stone lol. Harry: 1. Personally I've enjoyed the politics you included since it helped show the main differences between Horse and Magic; Magic is more about the large Scale and Harry becoming a Major Player/Leader/ Faction whereas Horse is more about Ranma being a one man army/ Special forces operative that can help fix problems but the effect he has on the war and their factions are more collateral than deliberate. He just wants to be able to explore and keep his little group/Family safe while having fun, whereas Harry has the example from Fay of following the Will of the Force and helping as many people on as large a scale as possible. (hope this made sense lol) 2. I think this depends on what is more important for the chapter and their effects later on, if you need to show certain skills of an Admiral or the way a certain battle is handled that will have knock on effects in the future, then that should have priority, whereas if the espionage that is happening will lead to some key discoveries, that should have priority. Other than that, I've personally enjoyed how you've shown the espionage in both fics but you should do what feels best.

Hiryo

General Questions: 1.) So far, I didn’t get the CAPTCHA, but I get the Cloudflare waiting line when I open too many ff.net tabs at once. Maybe if you use the mobile m.fanfiction.net that you do not get the CAPTCHA’s? ==> Maybe try access with VPN or different Browser (Chrom/Edge Chromium). 2.) General FF.net is okayish, better on the Smartphone Android App ‘FanFiction.Net’ in the Google Play Store. Especially their download function and alerts there. On FF.net it’s OK on the mobile website m.fanfiction.net to save files for less adds and the other annoyances but I hate the most that one cannot mark/copy section out of it anymore… (copy to search for ‘x’ or even mark and search option…). I use the regular ff.net website for the smaller old-style 80-something characters per line. 3.) AO3 ==> It would be best if you can post on FF.net AND AO3! Some don’t like to switch to AO3 and some don’t like FF.net, so best this way doing both! ==> No not trawling for more patrons, this is good coverage of the fanfiction outlets to spread them all. On this note, please update for all those interested this site too! ;) https://jusenkyo.fandom.com/wiki/Vimesenthusiast ==> This should help you trawling for more Ranma readers. ^^ XD Pretty please with a cherry on top? 9.9 On that note you could also post on https://www.scribblehub.com/ Rare for me to say anything about Harry Potter, but here goes for ATP. Since you feel the need to change, along with ‘cringing, Plot Hole,’ when thinking back to what you have wrongly written… ==> do the changes NOW. ;) It’ll be always on your mind and I don’t want you to even drop ‘something’ because of that backburner burning! Ranma Questions: 1.) I for one would say interchange ‘A Horse for the Force’ and ‘Magic of the Force’ the few chapters, (as you said it’s not many more,) until ‘A Horse for the Force’ is done! 2.) That’s a really tough question for me, especially me who cannot get enough of your Ranma fanfictions!!!!! …after seriously thinking about this question, and as well thinking about what would be better for you is…. Do not go ‘two smaller episodes,’ why?! ==> Because for you, as you more and more experienced it thus far and so many polls happened that you feel down that this or that story didn’t get picked a lot over quite some time. ==> Due this I vote for ‘Climbing Together,’ even more so, since I was on a binge watching ‘Street Fighter’ trip. XD When Justlovereadin’ comes back please re-enact ‘Making Waves’ again!

Mattysc42

I prefer ff over ao3 because I like the ff app. I haven’t had any captcha issues but I haven’t tried the website itself. As for the story questions, I enjoy nearly all of your stories about equally, and will happily read whatever you choose to write. =)

Nobody

Don't really have an opinion on which site to focus, I am equally ok with either. Magic and Force have interchanged high votes in the past, so might be easier to focus on whichever is closer to being finished, kind of burn it down till the end. Climbing is really fun to read and I am enjoying the way you are handling the journey, rather than staying in Nerima. King of Champions is more interesting to me personally, I just like the potential for the relationships and how you have indicated some things will go. All of the story ideas you have written are so interesting, it is difficult to pick which one to like more.

vimesenthusiast

That, and as has been pointed out, it's one that is going to stay even once/if the Confederacy has been beaten. That hasn't occurred yet to the Senate as it has to the Congress... when it does...

vimesenthusiast

Okay, i just tried to use fanfic on my phone. I see this issue there, but I don't on the laptop. That is really annoying. good call.

vimesenthusiast

Apparently it is a problem with cloudflare - the admins say they have fixed it so we will see. Truth on the content rules. If I went with both, I would remove the lemons from the stories over on fanfic. I like the idea of switching up. Maybe that coupled with the idea of removing a story if it wins two months in a row? Could work. Huh... okay. I think of the original foursome, Shampoo is my favorite, but I have to admit that's because of how many techniques Ranma learns from the Amazons. I also think that Ranma would be happier with the Amazons - he really isn't the guy to fit in a modern world if you think about it.

vimesenthusiast

seems as if the CAPTCHA thing was hitting writers, and only some of us. Yeah, regardless of anything, I will keep my stories on Fanfic - the mobile app is really nice. And AO3 has the most overblown tag system LOL. That's a vote for the episode style, thanks. I might switch off between GDWHOM and Horse, we'll see how it works. The Concensus on politics seems to keep it. Surprising, but gratifying. As for espionage, I will try to make it interesting when it shows up, LOL.

vimesenthusiast

It is a thought, since I have put FILFy on hold until ATP is finished. would give the DxD fans something to read.

vimesenthusiast

Eh, spacebattles is a bit... no. for the ADDventure revamp it would work, but not so much for full stories. the different fonts is fun, but it would still be massive walls of text. As for cloudflare, yeah, I'm getting attention required stuff even here, on patreon. I suppose my concern about trawling is I don't want to seem as if I'm trying to bring in new fans in order to run roughshod over the Ranma fandom - which is, as has been shown several times, normally second place to HP anyway. Making Waves will be back when Justlovereadin' returns from his naval tour - he's in the navy and is going to be out at see for nine months. 2 on Crunching down. It will become important in the future, but it isn't necessary right now, but when the Congress really starts to build up, then I might be concerned about chapter length, as it will also be at that point where the next really important battles of the war will start up.

vimesenthusiast

alternating while removing any two in a row winner could work, we will see.

vimesenthusiast

yeah downloading is a point in favor of AO3. I think I will do a test run, and see what happens in terms of font and such. I haven't tried to upload to A03 before so I have no idea how much extra work that will be.

vimesenthusiast

I have had several beta readers offer to go through it. All have failed, unable to scale that cliff.

vimesenthusiast

SBH is part of the patreon only rotation. I did want GDWHOM on hold, but since FILFy is on hold instead until after ATP is finished, I can bring it back in.

sandmanwake

I've been getting the CAPTCHA thing also. Personally, I'd like to see more authors also post on A03 as it's friendlier than FF for the fanficfare plugin for calibre. FF has also had other weird issues for months now which makes it annoying to use at times.

Kalen D

The problem is that I do not think Ranma would readily accept being considered a second class citizen that women can order around simply because he is a male in Amazon society. Shampoo attempts to order Ranma around a lot and back in the Amazon village he'd never get away with ignoring her like he does and the disrespect he shows the "old ghoul."

Justin Sully

I'm okay with whatever site is best for you. I don't have the CAPTCHA thing, but i do get the cloudflare thing whenever I open a story. In terms of ATP, I'd suggest leaving fixing errors until a final pass when the story is done, but there's a bias there because it's more to the benefit of new readers lol.

For Fanfiction.net A03 is a great back up, just make sure you post a link here if you start a profile there for us to follow. The Captcha effects us all.

For Ranma just follow Your Rule of Three from awhile back. You know when a story doesn't make it in the polls three times in a rows on the fourth month you don't have a poll for those stories and update the one that didn't make it those months. that way you help all your stories move forward in a semi equal manner.

For Harry Potter, Politics can be boring unless it serious or has some humor to it ( good or Dark humor). For Space Battles over Espionage i think a 1 to 2 ratio is good for what is written. For every Big Space Battle at least two Espionage ops should be should to balance out Carnage with Intrigue, Mystery, and Shadows.

I just delt with the Captcha bullshit myself. Go to settings and clear all caches and browser data manually.

1. I get the CAPTCHA thing sometimes. 2. I vastly prefer Ao3 to FF. I have lerant to live with FF annoyances, but they still annoy me, lol. 3. Having said that, I'm always in favor on having more options, so crossposting to both sites will be my preference. I love both Magic and Horse. They were the thing that attract me to your work and here in the first place. I confess that the first months I was getting a bit angry and jealous of other stories, specially ATP and FILFy. One thing that really increases my enjoyment of both are the different nuances and angles that you have introduced. And I love politics (and Padme) in Magic. Also, I'm saddened that MW is in the back burner. I love that story and I really would like to be finished.

My voting always goes Star Wars, Harry Potter, anything else, so you can see why magic of the force won it for me. I don’t care witch site you use but I have not seen your work on AO3 so the move might be rough. I was trying to wait for magic to be posted but I can’t anymore. Ryloth is a planet that has absolutely nothing but selling slaves, the Jedi have just abandoned a few PLANETS and Harry has a ship that is bigger than anything in the universe. It would take what, two round trips? I know it’s more complicated than that but just something to think about for the future.

Since I mostly read on my mobile phone, I think I never get a captcha on ff, though a inbetween screen is often loaded, that takes a few second to redirect to the chapters.

I use Fanfiction on desktop, mobile and on the app and have very few if any issues with it. I rarely get the captcha thing, but I think that's a location thing that causes it to pop up more often for people. Personally I'd prefer that you stay on Fanfiction, but if you wanna upload to both, that doesn't really affect me. Fanfictions app is superior than anything AO3 has period. Though I feel like you should know, finding crossover fanfictions on AO3 can be a pain in the ass, so I don't know if it would get you a large influx of readers. Also you are limited to the media you can upload with your story on AO3, so I guess be mindful of that. Honestly, I'd love a rewrite of ATP. It's one of my favorite stories but yeah, it has it's flaws. But, I mean, all stories do to everyone. If you feel like you'd be more motivated to do the re-write before completing it, I'd say do that. You've been working on that story for years, I'd hate to see it fall to the wayside. For Magic of the Force, I'd say that occasionally including some of the general politics in the Senate or other places would be nice. Some of that might add a bit of background to what's going on in the greater galaxy. And I think espionage would be more important than space battles when it comes to fighting the sith. It's how they've operated for most of their existence, rarely relying on direct confrontations. But I wouldn't neglect them either. I hope some of this helps, I look forward to more of your HP stories!

Yeah, I’ve looked at the fanfic app, which is really nice. I do know A03 can be a pain. What I might do is try to upload a single chapter of a random work and see what happens. The thing about ATP is that while I had the story outlined, the last arc I had in any detail was the Asgard arc. Which should have happened several chapters ago. the Shi’ar/Galactus arc smacked me upside the head. Jean’s pregnancy smacked me upside the head. The actual timeline – as in how I’ve spread things out – is really bad. And I know I should just remove the idea of the time-lapse runes entirely. Or at least don’t use them until the shipbuilding thing. BUT. But there is a problem. Name one story where someone went back to try and rewrite it, and then was able to actually finish the story. Instead most rewrites end up killing the writer’s muse. So that is a major concern for me. Yeah, I need to include bits of the Senate’s reaction to things. Show Palpatine slowly changing, the laws changing as Padme fights it. Their reaction to the Congress of Stars.

vimesenthusiast

Good that you haven’t seen my work on A03 as I wouldn’t have been the one who put it there, LOL. On Ryloth. Several points. One, it’s senator is a major player in the Senate, and one of Palpy’s supporters. Publicly he is death on slavery. Personally, he has two slaves. Because it’s cultural. Cultural – unfortunately it is. As long as Ryloth has been known, there has been slavery both on and off the planet. The Twi’leks culture is built on it. They don’t have enough industry or materials to build hyperspace nacelles. Slaves and ryl – a spice (drug), that is illegal due to it’s effects. Ryloth COULD NOT exist without slavery. Not until you have something to replace it with. Not without some means to sustain the economy. And you would have to get rid of It’s leadership, down to the clan level. Anyone who profits from slavery isn’t going to want it gone. This includes other senators, planets where slaves are allowed, and the Hutts. (The whole clone wars thing makes no sense – there were no local resources to support a large droid facility, and no real reason for it.) I am not saying the GDL allows slaves – that is going to come up when the Congress of Stars is further along. But the Republic does, they just call them indentured servants. So, yeah it's complicated.

vimesenthusiast

They have interchanged high votes very rarely without my intervention. I like King of Champions too, but I would also like to finish SOH… doesn’t seem to be happening though.

vimesenthusiast

Yeah, the hCaptcha thing is part of cloudflare. Been thinking about getting a VPN, yeah. LOL. I might try that site. AO3, the adventure will see what formatting and stuff looks like on A03. I’ll probably set next Monday aside to work on that. Yeah, but if I do the changes now, I am in danger of losing my forward momentum. Ugh. Have mentioned your point about HftF already LOL. Climbing Together is fun, which makes it a great thing for me to work on that when I’m facing MAJOR combat heavy chapters in other works Heh. And yeah, MW will come back when Justlovereadin’ comes back from duty at sea.

vimesenthusiast

Yeah, that’s what I’m afraid of about rewriting. Actually searched for stories that had (being rewritten) in the summary or title… yeah. Jedi = spying way better than in space combat – there’s too much limitation on Force powers for most Jedi in space.

vimesenthusiast

Seen the ads on mobile now. Yeah that’s sad. I thought the huge images at the bottom of the page were bad. AO3 needs to cut down on it’s tag system, and get better at showing crossovers. We will see how it goes with the formatting stuff when I experiment with it. Ranma questions: 1…. Okay. Wow. 2. Again, huh, okay. Harry questions: 1. The grind will not be there for the next few chapters, but it will come back after a few more military campaigns. 2. Interesting. This seems to be the take a lot of people have, which is strange, I thought it would be the other way around. Still, there I spying and then there is infiltration and sabotage… hehe.

vimesenthusiast

Or just point at the number of works I write per month LOL. R1) sorry, most people think the opposite. R2) Glad you’re happy with this one LOL.

vimesenthusiast

ATP: Among my Harry fics, it could be seen like that, yeah. I could run the chapters through Grammarly, but anything more would take time, and yes, effect future updates. R1) don’t worry, be happy, you have been heard LOL. R2)King of Champions will be part of the patron only rotation next month – it will replace this month’s winner. Death’s Avenger will be back when ATP is done, although I probably won’t have it in the polls when I have Stallion of the Line. Tomon is my primary beta reader for both, and the amount of world building is crazy. I haven’t watched more than combat clips of the original Ranma for years. I can’t stand Akane. When it comes to Ranma, I tend to remove some of the… call it slapstick emotions, I guess? The whole ‘eek emotions’, ‘eeek relationships’, ‘can’t show weakness’ thing. Since all that is a big part of the original, I can see your point. Beyond that, I’m glad you’ve enjoyed my stories. I try to write them so no knowledge of the original beyond the names are necessary to do so. HP1. I can summarize a lot, but there are a few scenes I won’t be able to. I can probably show blurbs – small pop in and out scenes for many of them. But Harry and Aayla, alas will have to deal with them. That’s why in the latest chapter I created more OCs so they can handle the espionage.

vimesenthusiast

Hmm… quality of life improvements, interesting phrase. Yeah, a lot of the mistakes I’d be changing would be like that. Stuff that don’t impact the flow of the plot of the various arcs, but just break your immersion. But I will be going back to the last chapter and rewriting segments of it. There were a continuity issues there, and a few others that, though I thought it came out as funny, were not. Yeah, that seems to be the consensus – don’t go into major details on the Politics side of things. Now that the war has picked up, I will only be showing the politics a few times, and I think the idea of doing so in blurbs – small scenes at the beginning and end of a debate, a single moment while watching a speech – that can work. Whine… but I like tactics… whine. Check the latest chapter and the one space combat I write out. That could be how I go from here on – no tech details, just combat. Espionage… we will see. Let’s just say that while there are great Jedi generals, but they are the exception, not the rule. They can be used in a lot better ways behind enemy lines in various ways.

I think the space battles thing is likely because of what I mentioned. It's hard for most people to hold the details of what's going on in a large space battle in their mind's eye when it gets complex, even with the best writing. I've spent enough time with David Weber's Honor Harrington series to have a good grasp on doing that, but even after numerous reads/listens to a series like that, the larger battles kinda blur for me without a visual reference. And I know I'm better than most at that sort of mental-spacial referencing. If you were making all of this in video game or anime format, I imagine the answer would swing the other way some, since everyone would be able to track what was going on more easily. As it is though...

Hiryo

Killing muse, especially if there are huge changes that go through most chapters afterwards! In that regard the sooner rewrite, the better. :p

General: 1) It is not just you. It used to be fine for me (just had the "cloudflare" thing come up nearly every chapter refresh, but my old PC died and it has been basically constant since. 2) The owner of Fanfic seems to be actively hostile to the people posting stories, and especially the people reading them. I think it would be nice to have your stories on Ao3, but as I understand it there are some formatting concerns you would need to watch out for. Might be misremembering, but it would be good to reach out to someone you know who posts on both to get feedback on the process. ATP fixing: Authors going back to update earlier parts of their big stories is one of the more common ways for said fics to die before they are completed. I don't think you would let that happen, but with how big ATP is it is a concern. Magic of the Force: 1) I think you have struck a good balance keeping the politics interesting enough and not letting it get dragged out too much, so I am happy for more if you want to do so. 2) Don't really have much of an opinion here. Neither are my favorite parts of the story, but they are both enjoyable.
