Okay, folks, as I go through Observanc3’s edits for chapter 50 of ATP (y’all think I’m a wordsmith, hah, I can only do around 19,000 words a day), I have had multiple thoughts on it and about how I want to learn from the experience of writing such a huge freaking story. And I thought to get your opinions on this.

To that end, I am starting this thread regarding two upcoming projects whose length, if not complexity, will probably come close to ATP. The first to mention is my DC/Ranma crossover for obvious reasons,. Bhaalson Remodel will be mentioned as well here.

Death’s Avenger will have its own thread later in the week. I need to go back over my notes and the previous discussions about it so that I don’t repeat myself. I don’t think King of Champions will grow to that size, although I could see it reaching the current size of Magic of the Force. But I have a few questions there too.

This first segment is about my DC/Ranma story. Just to remind people, the pairing at this point is polyamory with Ranma/Cassie/Kara/Kori as the center of a Teen Titans group sponsored more by Wonder Woman than Batman.

{EDITS based on everyone's input will be in BOLD.  I have also created a new tag to connect this thread to the revamped concept for the DC/Ranma cross and the first chapter of it}

1. One thing I think I need to do a better job at is picking and choosing characters to include from such a monstrous number of characters. I… think I’ve done an okay job of the various characters’ personalities but even so, I have been nearly overwhelmed several times by how many there are. This brings me to DC. So beyond the obvious big names on both sides of the distaff (Luthor, Supes, Bats, Jokey, Martian Manhunter, lots o’ aliens), are there any specific characters you would like to see?

I am personally thinking of just tossing the Flash and his entire rogue’s gallery out the window. Same with a large number of Gotham’s ‘Finest’. And not just because that will let me kill several of them who really need their necks snapped.

Are there any other characters you think I shouldn’t even bother with including? Both in terms of enemies and heroes *cough* Elastic Man *cough*.

2. What KIND of enemies should I concentrate on? In the original outline, I had the team of teens traveling the world dealing with low-to-high level enemies while the alien threat of Darkseid served as a long-term foe and mythological enemies like Ares and others serving as mid-bosses. Does this still sound like a good idea? Or should I switch entirely to focusing on magical-type threats rather than run-of-the-mill villains?

3. A few specific characters I am on the fence on:

Batgirl. What version (and I am not talking just physically) should I use? How old should she be? I won’t pair her with Ranma, and am kind of leery about her entirely given she and Bruce had a thing for a while in the comics, and then she and Nightwing did as well, so… heh. Um. Yeah.

The female Martian Manhunter. Never got her story really.

Superboy. Er… let’s just put all of Cadmus here. My initial thought was that Cadmus and other government-sponsored groups would NOT like Ranma, but frankly, I just don’t know if Superboy, unlike Beast Boy (he and Ranma will become best bros) would fit in well with the new team.

Bizarro Superman. What is the point of him again?

Cyborg. I don’t know where this character even came from, so if someone could point me in the way of some comics with his origin story I would appreciate it.

The young girl Deathstroke trained. That origin does not pass the sanity check.

{Essentially folks, if you’ve got a young hero or heroine you think would fit in with the Teen Titans post em, I will look at ‘em and decide if they fit in. I want a team of ten max, but a lot of the slots are already taken - Ranma/WG/SG/Kori, Raven, Beast boy, Batboy… yeah…

4. I have already determined there won’t be anywhere near as much world building in this fic as there is in ATP but I just want to confirm that people will be good with the comedy/romance/action emphasis. Ranma and co are not going to be interested in solving the world’s ills folks.

5. And finally, I would like your opinions on what I can improve on folks. What mistakes – large type mistakes – do you think I should avoid making again?

Now, on to Bhaalson Remodel.

1. Should Harry and Imoen (Tonks without the name LOL) be able to use spells from the Forgotten Realms schools of magic without first changing their class? Or have I done enough in the last chapter to make Blood Mage Spells great once more?

Here everyone seems to be in agreement that they should not be able to use the spells of Forgotten Realms without a class change.  I will have Imoen making this her second priority going forward, while Harry will simply be unable to dual-class at all.  His ability to use Blood Magic will instead stay, and even grow more to do with imagination and will than previous knowledge. This will let their ability to use magic to grow apart and become more singular. The same will be said of Hermione when she shows up.  Thanks go to Braeden1002 for pointing out that Hermione would want to experiment.

2. I have already decided an animal form for Harry, but should Imoen have an animal form as well? Note: this will lock her out of regaining her Metamporph powers. My initial thinking is NO, but I value your opinions.

My initial feeling was supported by everyone here. Tonks/Imoen will be making getting her metamorph powers back a priority.  The question then will be if taking on someone else's forms should let her use some of their abilities that she would not otherwise be able to use...

3. This is an important one for the next chapter rather than overall worldbuilding. It is time to jump back to the Mighty Hermione and her new sidekick Fleur. But I am wondering if I should have the two of them transfer in now, or later.

Now, I would write up adventures of their own elsewhere occurring at the same time Harry’s does, but they would not meet until events near the beginning of the events of Baldur’s Gate 2. That is at least half a year in-fic time in the future.

Or later. They would have adventures in the HP universe for a while and then transfer only as Harry meets their characters. Basically I am just asking which kind of adventure would be most interesting.

Oh, and as an aside, I am ambivalent about the idea of Fleur joining and joining the pairing. I can take it or leave it at this point, although it would be interesting to play around with Fleur… in every meaning of the term.  But who she would be is a distinct question...

Here, everyone's opinions were far more varied.  Some people didn't care, others felt that Fleur and Hermione should jump to Faerun quickly like Braeden1002 and Scott, not realizing that would mean they would be on their own for a while until meeting with Harry and co. A few felt they should stay in HP land for a while, like Alex Crate and lostone2. Novus pointed out that the longer I wait the harder it will be to integrate H and F into the story.

I feel the solution here is to reintroduce the two of them into the fic via small, pointed bits of mixed interaction and world-building.  The world-building will mention what is going on with Voldemort, but only peripherally, while the main thrust will be to describe how the two of them have become such friends and Hermione's ongoing plans to find Harry.  These will be spread over the BG1 chapters, and then, when they arrive in Faerun, the two of them will have one big adventure on their own.

This will, in turn, let the two of them get used to their new lives and how their old ones carry over before meeting with Harry.

4. I am thinking about levels. What level should Harry and company – minus J and K obviously – be before they take on Sarevok, the big baddie of BG? I am thinking of having them need to take on side-quests and leveling up to 11 or twelve before then, but I am wondering about whether or not it would make sense in terms of the characters taking the time out of solving the main plot point to do so.  Basically, the question is: more character interaction/combat and world building in BG or rushing to the events in BG2.

Here once more, the consensus was to let Harry and company to grow stronger.  It will be interesting to see what people think of the direction I take that idea. I want to thank Novus for pointing out that even as Harry and everyone is out in the wilds, word will have begun to spread from Nashkel about the events there. So tensions between Amn and Baldur's Gate will already be decreasing.  This will allow me to slow the main plot down so the party can go on side quests.

And finally, my King of Champions questions:

1. Should Harry tell Pyrrha and Tia (and later Arturia) about his past life? And if so, when in the relationship? I am not asking if they would keep his secret, they would, I am just wondering when would be appropriate.

This was a somewhat mixed bag.  A few said the story shouldn't come out for a while, others did, while Bryan Brown pointed out he had already promised to tell Pyrrha about how he was able to use his Semblance so well instantly. That is a big deal, and means that Pyrrha will be the first one to learn about the whole 'I have dreams of a past life' thing. Beyond that, each retelling will be different. Tia may learn on the heels of learning Harry is not her twin. Arturia will eventually pry the truth out of him as he uses one too large ability in front of her.

2. Do you think Pyrrha is more a romantic type of girl who would wait a long time to have *ahem* or do you think she is more spontaneous and willing to be swept off her feet faster?

Again a mixed bag here, and from reading everyone's opinions, I have decided that while Pyrrha is more spontaneous and willing to push things, she will easily get flustered if things are pushed too far. She will also be very against PDA beyond light touches on the arm or so. And Pyrrha is not going to push things to the lemon side quickly, but could be swept up in events.

3. One of the main mistakes I made in Semblance was breaking away from Beacon and the canon plot too quickly, then being tied down in travel chapters. I liked a lot of that, but you can’t deny it bogged the story down big time. So I am wondering if having Harry travel back to Evig Låga to deal with issues – both Grimm related and not – is a good or bad idea. Would that take away too much from the forward momentum of the story?

Here everyone's opinion was solidly with me on the fact I could not cut away from Beacon too quickly, yet a few also liked the world building i had done with Evig Laga. Working through my answers to everyone, I decided you will continue to see little scenes about that going on via scroll chats, scroll-based meetings and so forth before one peaceful visit over break, and another Grimm-related one.

I don't have an opinion on the rest of it, so I'll answer KoC. 1. Honestly here, I think Harry should go ahead and tell them about his past life. It would help tremendously with being able to act more are he needs to without having to come up with excuses on some of his knowledge. And in that vein, I don't think Harry should wait around too long to reveal it. 2. I think that Pyrrha can have moments of being romantic, but I think that she would be more spontaneous and willing to be swept off her feet much faster than your SoH version. I liked your version of her in the Ranma cross, but I generally think that Pyrrha would be more of a spontaneous type of girl. 3. I quite like the world building you do in your stories, and you've done some fantastic work with the RWBY world in Semblance. But you are right in that I think that you did break off from the cannon plot of RWBY. I still think that you should break off at some point of it in KoC, but maybe wait till later on for it. I also think that there will be a VERY explosive confrontation between Harry and Ozpin. This Harry has dealt with Dumbledore's bullshit for his whole first life, and I doubt that he'll react in any kind of calm manner once he starts sniffing out Ozpin's actual personality type. In that vein, I think that you could have Harry travel to Evig Låga and the new mine, if some kind of major threat to it comes about, but I think avoiding as much travelling montages in the early parts of the story would be better. It would also help to make KoC more it's own thing than somewhat resemble parts of SoH. Anyways, that's my opinion on things for King of Champions.

In regards to DC/Ranma I think you need to limit the cast a bit I’m not a big marvel DC fan so the dual names confuse me a ton with the secondary and tertiary casts. Just a personal complaint still loved ATP. Onto KoC I think that Harry should tell Pyrrha, Tia and Arturia I think there is no reason not to and how else would Harry explain his knowledge? Onto the dual plot line of beacon and Evig laga I think including both would be cool but I’m not a writer and so if you don’t know how to balance it you could just do it as him commanding from afar, maybe?

DC: 1. Characters I would like to see: Harley and Ivy, Vandal Savage, Ra’s al Ghul, Mr. Freeze, Lady Shiva, & Medusa. These names are probably big enough to be used anyway, but I figured I would mention them lol. Though I think you did a fantastic job with all the various characters in ATP anyway. 2. I think your main focus would be great, but a few magical enemies here and there would be fun. Maybe some minions from Trigon, or a few enemies from Constantine’s lineup. 3. I would go with a young Cassandra Cain, May be a year younger than Ranma or at his age. Not to pair with him, but I think she would make a good female best friend for him, and someone who can understand his passion for martial arts. I can definitely see the government and Cadmus not liking the main character, especially with his rebel personality and inability to be controlled by them. Superboy would definitely come to conflict, but it could be interesting to read about as long as it doesn’t span the entire day of the story lol. Maybe allowing for some interesting character growth between both of them. But I’m not a big super boy fan either way, so if he disappeared from the story, that wouldn’t bother me. Bizarro superman and female Martian Manhunter are both characters that I don’t have a particular interest in either. Cyborg at least would be good on the electronic side of things but I’m not overly knowledgeable on his character. 4. Perfectly fine with the stated emphasis of the story. 5. Honestly, nothing particularly comes to mind as something I can point to that I considered particularly bad. The story as a whole was highly enjoyable, and I’m sure will continue to be all the way to the near coming end. Bhaalson Remodel: sorry, not particularly knowledgeable about this world. King of Champions: 1. I definitely think he should, and I would probably choose a week or so, or around that time, after maybe their first kiss? That seems like a important milestones that could push him to wanting to share more about himself. 2. Honestly, she’s a character I could see it going either way, but considering her drive to change her life and get free from the confines of her past and family, I would lean more towards a spontaneous decision. 3. I think as long as those trips were used modestly, it wouldn’t take away from the momentum of the story. It would show that he is still connected to his roots, and wants to make sure he stays connected to his family. You would know much better than I add how to do that. My own writing ability is mid-tier best lol. Well, these are my opinions and thoughts on the given questions, hope they can be a modicum of help. Have a great day and have a great week. 😁👍

DC Ranma: 2. Honestly I find most of the magic villains in DC to be rather boring. 3. I can imagine that Ranma and Cassandra Cain could do a lot of bonding over their crappy childhoods dominated by fathers that wanted them to be the best, which would probably have the best impact if they were similar ages. For the other Batgirls, I don't think they would really add much on top of any other DC heroines. Bhaal: 2. I'd rather Imoen go the metamorph route 3. I'd rather Hermione and Fleur show up sooner than later. Keeping track of multiple barely connected storylines isn't very fun. King of Champions: 1. I never really like the change in dynamic that happens when a reincarnated character reveals their past life, but since you've got a change in dynamic coming when it's revealed that Harry's adopted, you might as well stick it there. Otherwise, I'd rather it not happen at all. 2. I feel like the character development Pyrrha has had so far in this story would make her more spontaneous. 3. I'd rather that Harry not have to travel back to Evig Laga unless it can be handled in a few paragraphs.

Brian Ziomkowski

King of Champions If Harry’s past experience is going to have a major part of his current life then yes he needs to tell them. Also if you add something like a patronas, which it would fit really well against grim, you also need to tell them. No matter how much she likes him, Harry is her first boyfriend and she will be hesitant to pull the trigger on that. Finally Harry is the driving force behind the city expansion, he will need to be there. Plus I would like to see how the White fang treats Harry Vs. Schne.

Kariston Draconis

Only going to bother with Ranma/DC here, and I think I can answer a bunch of questions through a single statement: You should go and watch Young Justice. The characters are well written, both heroes and villains, with The Light being probably one of the best written and most fleshed out villainous organizations ever put to screen. Origins for several characters you've mentioned are explored here in various seasons. Plus, you don't have to worry about the world building because it's already been done for you, letting you focus more on the other aspects.

Reiter

KoC 1.- Yeah, I think he should tell them, but not in the context of "we are now in a relationship, so I better come clear with this", I think that Harry having a great time in, let's say a date or something like that, would make him drop his defenses enough to let slip out some stuff that doesn't make too much sense for Tia and/or Pyrrha without context and that trying to explain that, he decides to tell them about his previous life. 2.- I see her as a romantic girl that thinks romance is like in the books and stuff like that, but that when is with Harry, she loses control, get a lot more spontaneous and sassy and later gets all embarrassed about it. Going Normal Teenager in Love with her. 3.- I really like Evig Laga and all the world building, but for now I feel that the situation there is better seen from others POV and in smaller sections of the chapter. A better exploration of Evin Laga could be reserved for a team travel while they enjoy their break, or something like that.

DC/Ranma: Sadly, I'm not familiar enough with the comics to comment here. Bhaalson Remodel: Not following this one. It's not bad, just not for me. I would have preferred a non-video game DnD crossover. I also just don't like classes. King of Champions: 1) I'm in favour of Harry telling them eventually. With Tia and Arturia, probably best to wait until all three of them are together. After a big fight scene where he has to expose more of his repertoire would work. Pyrrha is slightly more complicated. They only just started kind-of dating. Telling someone about your past life seems like a major step, so probably only after they both know where the relationship is going (IE: betrothal). He would certainly tell her before proposing at any rate. 2) I would guess Pyrrha is the slow type, at least the character traits you've shown so far indicate that. One, she doesn't like her fame and wants to be sure that people actually like her for her before forming relationships, and probably with progressing them as well. Two, as soon as she got away from her parents, she changed her uniform to a more conservative version. Finally, she wants to be a normal girl, but being raised a celebrity she probably only has common gender stereotypes to go off of for her age group (Ex: girls should be chaste and shy). Note: A lot of the stuff listed in the above breakdown describes Harry and his opinions too. 3) I would prefer more character development and interaction myself, but keep in mind that they likely used a lot of timeskips between scenes in the series, so Harry might have time to travel back and forth. They do that a lot with shows and books, where days weeks and rarely months can go by between scenes.

When are you going to update magic of the force ??

DC: 1. I would like to see Catwoman, Harley and Ivy from Gotham. Lady Shiva should be fit well. 2. It sounds a very interesting premise and a nice change of pace from ATP. 3. Cassandra Cain seems to me the best option, but I'm not that interested in the Bat-family. The female Martian-Manhunter works well with a female MC (for instance in DianeCastle's DC version). Not so much with Ranma, me thinks. I will be interested in the whole dynamic between Ranma and Superboy... way more that in Ranma-BB as best bros. Both Beatboy and Raven annoys me infinitely tbh (to be fair I have only seen the cartoons series, pretty sure that the comics version are better). He was supposed to be fun. Spoiler: he wasn't. No big loss if he doesn't appear. I like the Artemis character from the Young Justice series. 4. i'm fine with that approach. 5. The biggest issue that I have with ATP is how American is Harry. He seems to have no cultural British background and have instead a notable American bias regarding several key issues. He seems to be a bit OOC in that sense.

Darth Bayes

DC: 1) Flash's rogues: I have the impression that the Flash's rogues gallery is unusually nonviolent/legitimately-funny/well-adjusted, and an encounter with that side of thing could push someone used to the more hardcore side out of their comfort zone in interesting ways, but I have no real opinions or advice beyond that. 2) It might be useful to turn around and approach this from an entirely different direction--how do you want your characters to develop (both in power and in personality) and what kind of enemies or experiences would be useful for having that happen? Is there a conceptual campaign arc you'd like to focus on? E.g. slowly revealing the threat of Apokalips? Focusing on a specific type of enemy could restrict your options, but letting your heroes be proactive (unusual for heroes) about dealing with e.g. magical threats a local hero might not be prepared for is also interesting. For example, the Young Justice show has Apokalips as a major enemy, alongside a pseudo-illuminati of mostly-planner-type world-level villains, and the team proactively fights a pseudo-random array of villains, and investigates labs and unusual deals, linked in that they are employed or aided by one of the two major enemies. 3) There are lots of different versions of the characters. Many soft-reboots like Teen Titans or Young Justice or the movies pick a single backstory, throwing out a lot of other stuff (especially by making them younger), in order to make the world small enough to fit around the main characters. You may want to do this, or may not. One possible concern is getting a spread of talents on the team, e.g. a tech person, a psionics person, a magic person, a super-strength person, an intel person, a money person, etc. Alternatively, you could *not* have one or more areas covered. This could add a notable weakness to the team, presumably forcing them to work around it, and that could be interesting. However, it could also wind up seeming like an idiot ball (why don't you just contact/recruit someone who can X?). Overlapping roles may also cause tension, especially if someone is better in every respect at that role. Supergirl and Superboy could be an example for some versions of the characters. This could be a problem, or could become interesting if you have some idea for how this could force character or skill/power development. On the other hand, some powers are almost _too strong_, magic, telepathy, telekinesis, phasing, and superspeed being common culprits. Plots involving misunderstandings should be impossible with a telepath, as should anyone attempting stealth, anyone without flight should be screwed by being lifted up by telekinesis, and phasing and superspeed also make it easy to scout, trivialize defenses, and/or win without giving the opponent an opportunity to respond. These can all be worked around, but e.g. needing to give every single enemy flight isn't ideal. On a third hand, some people implicitly pull in enemies or backstory that might be interesting, e.g. Miss Martial pulling in Mars (if inhabited), or Rocket pulling in more space stuff, or Artemis pulling in the League of Shadows, or Wonder Girl pulling in Diana's villains, Thermyscera, and greek mythology, and that can be a reason to include or exclude them. Batgirl: What do you want? Oracle could be an intel person and/or a woobie/inspiration to learn/~quest for healing techniques? Batgirl could pull in Gotham rogues? Batgirl could overlap with Batboy/Ranma? Miss Martian: I am most familiar with her from the Young Justice show continuity (which is worth watching), and fanfics based on it (remarkably popular). She doesn't overlap with most power sets, but that's because basically all of her powers are on the problematically-strong-enemy-trivializing side. They're all very interesting powers, though. Pulling in Mars could be interesting, and given some Burning Martians/Guardians connections, potentially more. Also could pull in anti-alien villains and plotlines. Superboy: Again I am most familiar with the Young Justice show continuity version, which has been someone linked to martians and Lex Luthor. Would significantly overlap with Supergirl in powerset/role unless more unusual versions were drawn on. Could bring in Metropolis, cloning, cadmus, and/or angst plotlines? Cyborg: I am most familiar with the Teen Titans 2003 show continuity, which glosses over his origin story, having him simply rebuild himself after a tragic accident. He could fulfill a tech and gear role. He doesn't seem to have many connections to pull in, but could pull in a transhumanism plotline. Potentially interesting interaction with Oracle, though I don't know how much of a true plotline that could lead into. Other young options... Aqualad (Young Justice) is a jack-of-all-trades who knows _about_ magic in general but is pretty specialized, which is a useful combo for explaining but not solving magical problems. Could pull in Atlantis and magical plotlines. Artemis (Young Justice) is a street-level archer with a background connection to the League of Shadows and some other villains. In fanfiction, she's often the first person to jump at means of gaining superpowers (not being bought into the Bat Mythology), which can be a very interesting role/setup. Kid Flash (Young Justice) is a speedster and relative of Barry Allen. Superspeed is non-overlapping but problematically strong, especially combined with tech or gear. May be into science/chemistry, may wind up into Alchemy if the speed force procedure is alchemical. Could bring in Central City or Cosmic Forces plotlines. Red Arrow/Speedy (Young Justice)...exists and has his own role in that show, but it's kind of show-specific. Zatanna is of a similar age (in the Young Justice continuity). Teen Titans 2003 also has some young heroes and villains invented or expanded upon, like Terra. Jinx is a fan favorite, and mostly a villain for the freedom and cash, as far as I can tell. Using young villains who may or may not heel-face turn and/or flip repeatedly can be interesting, though fits better with a fixed location and repeating villains. 4) Up to you, though I personally am a fan of exploring metaphysics and trying to find new and interesting ways to leverage and/or improve powers, though I suspect you'll be doing that anyway. I do think that e.g. publishing videos on how to do ki training on youtube is a really interesting idea (or patenting and licensing Cyborg's tech), but that might fit better with a plotline like Young Justice where some villains claim their motivation is trying to benefit humanity in a way heroes don't.

Matthew Williams

When you say "that girl Slade trained" are you referring to Terra or his daughter Rose? Because, frankly, narratively neither of those pass the vibe check if you're using the comics as a starting off point. Slade isn't really what you would call an A-Plus parent or even a good person, even in continuities where he's more of an antihero. He groomed 13-years old Terra as both an apprentice to kill the Titans and as a lover, and he psychologically manipulated his daughter until Rose thought the best way to gain his approval was to cut out her own eye. That said, Terra and Rose both are really interesting characters with great storylines who have been part of the Titans/Young Justice in the comics. And ones that could provide an interesting arc narratively, as both START as villains or antiheroes that the team/Ranma would need to face. If nothing else, they'd provide good foils as one-off antagonists for character growth for Ranma and the others.

Bhaalson: 1 - No, they should need to use the the dual class mechanics in Imoen/Tonks case, and Harry would need to choose some unorthodox god to swear his Paladiness to that would open up both divine and arcane spellcasting, otherwise he would only have Blood Mage stuff and the divine spell selection from in world. 2 - Imoen should not have an animal form if it blocks her unlocking her metamorph abilities. In my head cannon she is only staving off some serious body dismorphia issues by focusing on the fact she can get back something that she feels is an intrinsic part of her sense of self (and magic). 3 - I have several ideas for the inserts for Hermione and/or Fleur depending on when you want to insert. If you would like to still slot them into the BG1 setting your bests bets are Safana and Skie who have yet to be introduced. Both are thief skillsets and Safana has a high enough charisma to get a class change to a Sorceror if the two girls get some sort of Character Generation process (such as if you use the multiplayer setting of the game itself to do the insert). If you would like H & F's adventures to enter/investigate the game to be more involved and would like them to enter in BG2 then I have two ideas. The more radical would be to sub them into Jaheira (Hermione) and Viconia (Fleur) during the transition. This would be dependent on how you develop those relationships in BG1. The other option I propose is to put Hermione into Aerie to make that character a viable companion that isn't terribly annoying as well as give her access to divine and arcane magic right from the start. I would use Nalia to insert Fleur, another character that usually gets left by the wayside at some point, at the very least when most players get Imoen back in later BG2. 4 - I'm in favor of them leveling quite a bit (definitely enough to get Imoen and any other dual classers to unlock their first class). If Sarevok can take out Gorion he shouldn't be vulnerable to level eight equivalents no matter how many. So I would suggest the squad gets wrecked (loses permanently some companions new or recent) against Tazok's camp or the Cloakwood mines. They would then be pushed to avoid the final main campaign plotline until they've done the side quests, maybe the EE new material, and definitely the Tales of Sword Coast expansion to get higher levels so they won't get casually crushed by Sarevok and his party. Another advantage to a high level in BG1 is the potential for Imoen/Tonks to escape the Asylum prior to the normal course of events if you so desire.

M B

Bhaalson: 1) I would say yes, but it shouldn't be too easy for them to learn said spells. Though without a cost in Hitpoints, I am not sure how you would go about limiting them. Would they have spell slots? Would it tire them out? I'm not great at balancing things like this, sorry. 2) If it means no metamorph powers, then I would say no. Tonks not being a metamorph is just weird. 3) I think I would prefer them transfering later if transfer time doesn't affect when they meet up with Harry and Co. 4) More character interaction and world-building would be my vote. I am sure playing around a bit with timing and possibly location (where location isn't critical) for the side quests would allow you to make it seem to flow more naturally and not be out of character (i.e. not be them noticablly them taking time to grind up stronger). King of Champions: 1) I definitely think he should tell them, and as for when? At the latest when he realizes things are heading into romantic territory, but I am inclined to say it should be earlier than that. Just not sure when would be a good time, since I am not familiar with Rwby. Maybe something related to training? 3) I think it could be interesting as long as it isn't too often, though there would have to be some reasoning for it being Harry specifically that needs to deal with it, barring it happening when he was back for some other reason (like a summer break, if that is a thing here).

Bryan Brown

DC/Ranma Questions. 1a: DC can be very Clique based when it comes to who interacts with who. Based on the 4 characters I know of on the team I would think we would primarily see Wonder Woman, Superman, and Teen Titian characters due to Wonder Girl, Super Girl, and Starfire's presence. For Rama you already have had him interact with Ra’s al Ghul and the League of Assassins and he would likely attract/seek out martial arts focused characters like Lady Shiva. Past that as they will be traveling, and Rama is a major trouble magnet I would think they would regularly meet whatever small time local characters are in the area. Depending on who else is on the team you may want to include their mentors/archenemies as well. 1b:Don’t Include Kid Flash, Robin, or Batgirl on the team and do not have them travel to Gotham or Central city and you can completely ignore their part of the DC universe. The same goes for anyone else for that matter. A lot of DC characters don’t travel that much unless on a mission from the League or taking a specific job so they can be easily ignored if they do not have a reason to seek the team out. 2. Are they being given missions like in Young Justice or are they wondering around on a Rama style training/wanderlust Journey? If the first, they will get sent after whatever villains their sponsor choses to direct them to. If the second they will probably run across more magical, martial arts, and alien focused threats because that would be what would draw those 4’s attention. Also, if they are going to be a team that live in their base and travels around the world on missions from the Justice League you MIGHT want to use elements from Young Justice. It is an excellent show that did a lot what you seem to be wanting to do but I am not sure how well it mixes with the rest of the DCU. 3a Batgirl: Cassandra Cain would be the Bat girl I could see fitting into a Rama centered story. Or since she runs away from the League of Assassins at the age of 8 and is not seen again until she shows up in Gotham during No Man’s Land as a teen you could have them meet her before she gets involved with the Bat Family. Her background of never knowing her mother and being trained from birth by a martial artist father who wanted to use her for his own purpose would definitely get a response from Rama if he learned of it, especially if she is still preteen. Adopted little sister maybe? 3b Female Martian Manhunter: White(half green?) Martian who fled the civil war on mars and pretends to be a Green Martian as the Whites are militaristic bad guys. Easy to fit in if you want a physic shapeshifting alien that can fly the team around in her bioship as she needs a place to stay/belong with her parents captured/dead at the hands of the US government. 3c Cyborg: Tech heroes need a base/workshop to keep their tools and do repair/upgrades on their equipment. So, is the team is going to be wandering without a home, traveling back and forth to a base, or are they going to have a mobile base? Which Cyborg can act as the mechanic for. 4: Yep. Wander and explore to your hearts extend and leave dealing with world ending threats and International Politics to The Justice League. Bhaalson Remodel Questions 1. They should only be able to use Blood Mage spells without taking a spell casting class. 2. If you plan to let her get her Metamorphic powers back then no she shouldn’t. 3. You could mix the two with a few more adventures in the HP world and then move them to Baldur’s Gate. It might be more interesting that way. However, I would like to see them arrive and do at least 1 adventure before they meet Harry and Tonks, maybe the tutorial to BG2. As for who Fleur would be & end up paired with, I look forward to begin surprised. 4. Is there anything the native characters would ask him to do before the final fight? I could see Harry wanting to help them out before finishing main quest in case he is sent home after finishing it. That is before considering if Harry knows enough about RPGs/is the type of gamer to want to Max Levels before the boss fight? If he is then he probably is looking for an excuse to take side quests anyway. King of Champions questions: 1. He said he would tell Pyrrha about why he could use his semblance so quickly. If he is unwilling to lie to her then he will have to tell her about having past life dreams/memories since he was 5 years old very soon. Tia would be there for that conversation. As for telling them that the reason he has these memories is because he made a deal with death to save the world I would have him hold that back till he talks to Arturia about it in person. Possibly because she realizes he is hiding something and confronts him on it instead of him voluntary revealing it. 2. I think it is a long time since Phyrra had a friend or anyone she was truly close too. So she will likely either go all in fairly quickly or let Harry take the lead due to not really knowing what to do in a relationship and trusting him not to take advantage. 3. Considering he can catch a bullhead flight there whenever his dad, who is trying to get him to take a leadership position in the community, calls him and asks for his help assuming it is not something that can be decided over the phone; Yes this would be something that happens. When in his education his dad would start calling him, how often he would call, if Harry would figure out why his dad is calling him so often, and how Harry would react if he does figure it out gives you a lot of wiggle room to keep it from interrupting the pace of the story or to stop it if it does.

1.) Are there any other characters you think I shouldn’t even bother with including? (Enemies and Heroes) Honestly, it’s over my head to really know which way what is besides the wikia website. XD 2.) What KIND of enemies should I concentrate on? Those that make a fun and interesting story. Yeah, I know too general what you’re aiming at but I can’t narrow it down. 3.) A few specific characters I am on the fence on: -Batgirl: I’m on two sides between ‘New Earth’ one and Batgirl from the ‘Batman: The Animates Series’. -The female Martian Manhunter: Me neither. XD -Bizarro Superman: https://dc.fandom.com/wiki/Earth_29 Earth 29 is opposite Earth 14 in the structure of the Multiverse, and is the closest known universe in it to the Nightmare side of Dream's realm, the "Chaos" aspect of the Sphere of the Gods. Bizarroverse, its damaged laws of physics giving rise to Bizarros such as the Unjustice League of Unamerica and their pointless adventures, as well as Nnar, home of Adam Familiar -Cyborg: https://dc.fandom.com/wiki/Cyborg?so=search#Pre-Crisis Cyborg, also known as Victor Stone, is a superhero who is half man and half machine. His body was destroyed in a tragic accident, but he was saved through experimental technology; most of his body parts have been replaced with cybernetic ones, which grant him access to a large arsenal of high-tech gadgets and weaponry, while also providing life support. Stone struggles with his humanity as a machine, although his enhancements have made him incredibly powerful. He is primarily a member of the Teen Titans in the New Earth continuity, but in the Prime Earth continuity, he is a founding member of the Justice League. Cyborg was created by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez, first appearing in DC Comics Presents #26. (1980) 4.) I just want to confirm that people will be good with the comedy/romance/action emphasis. Yes, I’m totally fine with all of them! 5.) And finally, I would like your opinions on what I can improve on folks. What mistakes – large type mistakes – do you think I should avoid making again? Keep the original names as much as possible, so there aren’t confusions on top of every other changes. For such long-time projects following files need to be shared with the editors, even more so with those that do not just do spelling and grammar: There should be overall used some kind of UML chart ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unified_Modeling_Language ) edit/display tool that makes it the easiest to you and the best to keep track of and display it. (By the end you can share these files too if you want in pdf format.) List/Chart of Timeline/Events (even more so about timetravel if there is any timetravel involved may need a separate timeline chart and changes in said, depending on the type of timetravel Time Travel in Fiction Rundown https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3zTfXvYZ9s ) List/Chart of History (Maybe merged with Timeline/Events) as well which changes were made from the original and need to keep track off. List/Chart of Cast/Relationships, not just in love but as well of state of friend/frenemies/enemy/kill on sight/... (Maybe need some like political spectrum chart or separate each list of relationship/friend/frenemies/enemy/kill on sight/... if separated may need to include from-till or just the later one) List of Cast profile development? I’ll join the bandwagon of Kariston Draconis about Young Justice. XD I think what Bryan Brown wrote about avoiding Gotham and Central City is a wise thing to do.

Oh dear. * Cracks Knuckles and takes a deep breath * Okay. Let’s do this. DC/Ranma story General: Yep. I’ve got something to say before we even get to the questions! Mostly because, taken altogether, several details throughout the questions combined into a VERY confusing whole. You stated that you wanted this to be a Teen Titans like group…sponsored by Wonder Woman? While Young Justice was a sponsored group (and several of your questions/comments seem to be related to Young Justice NOT Teen Titians)…the Teen Titans were not. They were a completely independent team operating (at least initially) without a backer and without Justice League recognition. Eventually, they did get recognized by the League, but were still an independent organization (a global one with several groups in fact). They never took missions from the League like Young Justice did, and never had a League backer/sponsor. Titan Tower was actually paid for by Jump City, if I recall, not by Batman. Who, in fact, actually didn’t approve of the Titans. In point of fact, if you have Raven present…you basically can’t get League interaction with a Titians Team. Raven approached the Justice League themselves for help before the Titans, desperate to get assistance in dealing with Trigon. Unfortunately, Zantana was a complete and utterly ***** and painted Raven with the number of the beast for the League, because of her half-demon status. The League actually outright refused to help her. And her presence on the Titan’s team was a huge chunk of what caused the JL to completely refuse relations with the Titan’s for quite a while. All of that’s a bit of a digression from the point, though. The slight migraine I got reading all the questions was because you seem to be mashing elements from Young Justice and Teen Titans together for this into some sort of unholy Frankenstein monster. Cadmus and Superboy are Young Justice material, for example. As is having a League mentor. Yet much of the other stuff you mention (including who you want on the team, like Raven, Starfire, and Beast Boy) were part of Titans. A lot of their backgrounds would need to be put Heavily under the knife in order to make them all even remotely compatible. Raven’s background would need to be basically completely changed for anyone from the JL to have even a mentor relationship with a team she was on. Beast Boy had lingering issues and distrust from the Doom Patrol. Starfire is a whole other issue (not a bad one, just one that would be complicated by official JL interaction). The Robins involved in the two teams are completely different Robins (both of them unnecessary, annoying, and best left at home). Superboy is pure Young Justice and tied heavily to the Young Justice enemies and plotline. Etc. Etc. Etc. I have a lot of faith in your ability to mash things together. But, if you’re serious about trying to make some sort of alternate DC with bits and pieces of both teams. You’re going to need to do some seriously heavy rework and planning. On a scale that makes ATP look tame and easy to handle. At least as far as the background changes for the story goes. Just something to make sure you think about in full before diving into it, yeah? Now, for the actual questions. 1. One thing I think I need to do a better job at is picking and choosing characters to include from such a monstrous number of characters. Your problem is actually a little more subtle than that, I think. The number of characters you tend to use isn’t, as near as I can tell, your actual problem. Your issue is your inability to leave background characters and events alone. Once you introduce a character, you want to explore all the things with them. Tell us their romantic exploits, show their thoughts, explore their backgrounds, etc. You could have cut the size of ATP by half if you’d just left the background characters in the background. You don’t need, strictly speaking, to cut Flash and his gallery. You just need to not interact with them beyond mentions or casual encounters. This is actually how the original comic and show authors dealt with worlds the size of DC or Marvel. They don’t try to have everyone interact with everyone else. They create neat little bubbles that all exist in the same world, and only do crossovers from one bubble to another as special events. A Teen Titans group doesn’t need to interact with Flash’s Rouge’s Gallery unless one of them crosses over into their jurisdiction/area of influence. And the same is true for every other Rouges Gallery. One of the flaws with ATP is that you basically had Harry take on all of Marvel. In a way not even the MCU tried to do. The sheer scale and the number of ‘bubbles’ he welded together into one overarching plot eventually made the entire thing unwieldly as all hell. 2. …Magic? Why would the group of characters you have already outlined as being members of this group be dealing with magic? Raven’s the only magic user. Supergirl is literally one of the worst people to bring on magic-specific missions. Ranma’s not magic-related either (aside from his curse). Wonder Woman is only sort of magic themed herself. Her powers are magic, but she deals with mundane enemies more often than magic users. Neither the Titans nor Young Justice had a magic focus. They did deal with a few magic arcs and villains. The Big Bad in Titans and one of the major arcs in Young Justice. But both groups dealt with tech/meta villains just as often. If not more often. 3. A few specific characters I am on the fence on: Batgirl: Honestly, you can avoid most of the clusterfuck that is the batgirl/batman/robin screwiness by using any batgirl other than Barbra Gordan. Which, since that version of batgirl doesn’t mesh time-wise with any of the other characters you’re using, it’s kinda…obvious not to use her? If you want to use a Batgirl, I’d suggest maybe Cassandra Cain. She’d probably get along with Ranma remarkably well, without necessarily going in the direction of romance. I think she was a member of Titans East at one point, too, so she’s probably not too far off kilter timeline wise with other characters. The female Martian Manhunter: Ms. Martian? She’s…not really a female Martian Manhunter. Particularly because she’s actually a White Martian simply pretending to be a Green Martian. She’s also kinda Mary Sue-ish, but does bring both a useful power set and her own transportation with her. Superboy/Cadmus: Superboy is a mess. And basically only exists as an element of the Young Justice timeline. Please erase his existence with all due haste. Then erase it a second time just to make sure it sticks. Bizarro Superman: There isn’t one. And he has no reason to be involved with a younger team anyway. Cyborg. …Which version of Cyborg? The Titan’s version doesn’t really have a backstory. He was basically recreated from whole cloth just for Teen Titans, with a simplistic background. Basically just ‘he was in an accident, his dad replaced his injuries with cybernetics.’ The original Cyborg was much older, a founding member of the Justice League, and his background was that he was merged with a Motherbox. Using some variant of that might make sense if you’re going to be using Darkseid as a Big Bad. I will note that, in the Teen Titans, he was basically the only mentally stable team member. And, basically, served as the core glue holding the group together. Raven’s a hardcore loner, Beast Boy’s both kinda an idiot and has lingering issues from the Doom Patrol, Starfire is extremely chaotic (in fun ways), and the Teen Titans Robin is a giant liability that kept running off in emo lone-wanderer fashion and fucking everything up in the process. Seriously. Please have any version of Robin violently eliminated by random lightning strikes before he can ruin your team. ALL of the Robins are unholy messes. All of Them. ALL OF THEM. The young girl Deathstroke trained: ??? Who ??? Do you…mean Terra? That happened during Teen Titans, rather than as part of her backstory. It doesn’t need to happen at all. You know, if your version of this team has enough communication ability to fill a thimble. Possible Members: - Not Robin. Seriously. There is no way any of the Robins would handle Ranma well. Or Wonder Woman. Or Super Girl. Or Wonder Girl. Seriously, all of them are basically incompatible with half your lineup. They are also almost universally useless and detrimental to teamwork. - I’d actually like to suggest Atlee. She’s a Terra, but not the Teen Titans Terra. She’s a very interesting character who is badly underutilized in both the comics and in fanfiction. She appears in the Power Girl (2009) comics as a Sidekick for Power Girl. And appears alongside an older Starfire in the Starfire (2015) comic series. The Starfire (2015) series, which is part of the Prime Earth version of DC I think, is actually something I’d recommend reading to get a handle on Starfire, too. While it features an older, more experienced, version of her…it also gives the best insight of any series into her general mindset. As well as the culture/personalities of Tamarian’s in general. At least, I personally think it does. Starfire 2015 also gives a better understanding of Terra, including some explanation of why there have been multiple Terras, if I remember correctly. 4. Honestly, I think that’s better. ATP was TOO broad and tried to fix too much. Eventually, the whole thing turned a bit painful. 5. Mostly, I covered this already. One additional point I’d like to make, though. I made it (though under a different name at the time), waaaaaayyyy back in ATP. Pregnancies are a terrible idea for stories. When you first did Jean’s pregnancy revelation, I wrote a whole host of reasons that it was a terrible idea and the problems it would cause you as a writer. And, with as much you’ve had to work around it, I think I feel justified in an ‘I told you so’ for that one. There is basically never a time in which, even if it’s logical for it to happen, that it doesn’t cause nightmarish complications -_-. Bhaalson Remodel. 1. Should Harry and Imoen (Tonks without the name LOL) be able to use spells from the Forgotten Realms schools of magic without first changing their class? Honestly? I don’t see any reason not to let them. You did improve Blood Magic a lot, but the HP cost and the fact they can’t use it around witnesses they intend to leave alive still limits its usage pretty heavily. And, canon BG, Imoen would have become a mage anyway. 2. NO! Metamorph ability is so much better and more interesting! Also, kinda part of Tonk’s self-identity… 3. Honestly? The longer you wait for them to transfer in the harder it will be to handle. I didn’t realize you intended to transfer them in at all. The idea doesn’t at all appeal to me, personally. But if you’re set on doing it, better to do it sooner rather than later. I’m always pro Fleur joining virtually any Harry relationship. But then, I’m unquestionably and unrepentantly a pervert. If you are intending for her to replace an existing character…maybe Aerie? They share some similarities (Veela/Avariel) and the original Aerie was kinda annoying. 4. I am thinking about levels. I think, here, the nebulous timeline of events in BG1 works in your favor. There’s nothing keeping you from stretching out the Iron Crisis, particularly as Harry and Co start knocking chinks in the plan. Every time they do, you could argue that they are slowing the headlong rush of events down. Even just solving the situation at the mines that they already did would potentially cool down the political situation. With the mines once again producing untainted ore and solid evidence that someone is tampering with things, one could argue that the political fires would cool for a while, giving Harry and Co more time to work with. And finally, my King of Champions questions: 1.Honestly? No. There’s no real reason for him to bring it up. And one could argue that he’d prefer to leave it in the past. Even if he does tell them, I’d say wait until he does things that he simply can’t explain without explaining magic. 2. …I could honestly see it going either way? I mean, technically she’s in her ‘Teenage Rebel’ phase. On the other hand, her personality isn’t particularly wild… 3. I’d say it’s a matter of ‘how often’ rather than ‘should or should not.’ I think him traveling back (and possibly taking people with him) could be a good addition to the story. But I think the number of times/frequency of it would be better off kept low.

Bhaalson – Just FYI, I have not played BG and do not know the canon plotline 1. I would lean towards no. I like the blood magic for it’s uniqueness. I like that the two of them are capable of something that no one else in that world can do. It’s not necessarily better than the existing magic, just different, with it’s own strengths and weaknesses. Giving them both schools of magic would just give them overpowered natural advantages. My comparison here would be Horse for the Force. You could have given Ranma force precognition, and other standard jedi abilities, but you didn’t, because he has his own skillset. I think that this was a good decision and you should replicate it here. 2. My vote is a strong No here. Imoen already barely qualifies as Tonks, given her new name, appearance, age, and skillset. Giving her back her metamorph ability would go a long way towards fixing that and make her feel like the character that she is supposed to be, rather than an original character. Not that I have a problem with original characters, but if you are going to refer to someone as a canon character, then they have to have SOME resemblance to that character. I also think her metamorph abilities would fit great with her current skillset. 3. I would much rather see Hermione and Fleur have adventures on their own within the game, then back at home. I don’t really care that much about what happens back in the HP world at this point, but I think it could be really interesting to see them on their own in the BG world. As far as pairings, my answer is always going to be to have less people in the pairing rather than more. I don’t think having more people really adds anything to your stories, although it doesn’t necessarily detract if you do it well enough. That said, the larger the pairing, the more difficult it is to do it right, which makes it more likely to detract from the story for no real potential benefit i.e. added risk for no reward. That’s my view anyways and applies to all of your stories, although I’m probably in the minority on that. 4. I don’t know enough about BG to comment on this. I do like character interaction and world building though, especially if you keep adding new characters. King of Champions 1. I don’t see why he wouldn’t at this point, especially once his adopted status comes out. I hate the idea that he would have to lie about his skillset to his closest allies, never mind his romantic partners. This isn’t like Bhaalson Remodel where people might get upset about his real age or the fact that their lives are a game, here there is no reason to keep it a secret, other than to deny knowledge of his abilities to potential enemies, which you yourself stated wasn’t a problem here. If you’re asking about when, I really see no reason to delay it at this point. 3. I don’t think breaking away from Beacon is a problem in and of itself, but Beacon was their home base in semblance. The main cast doesn’t really learn more about what is going on in the world and gain new priorities/missions until they report back to Beacon, so staying away too often did bog the story down. I actually rather like the idea of Evig Laga as their home base/power base in this story, rather than Beacon so I like the idea of them spending more time there.

Alex Crate

I don't do Ranma so I'll give it a miss. I'll let the fans of the series and your works be the voices in your head for it and not put my nose were it doesn't belong. Bhaalson Remodel: 1. I kinda like them having their own "class" for their spells and them sticking too it along with their primary classes. Though them learning a cantrip or two really wouldn't be to bad either. 2. I would say no to her having an animal form. One of Tonks' biggest identifiers of her character is her metamorph powers. I'd personally hate to see them go. Though maybe at later levels she could evolve it to be like Mystique and be able to turn into animals as well. You could add drawbacks such as her not having the additional senses and instincts of the animals though. 3. I'm a bit torn on this one. Either path could work and be good, but I think them staying out of the game until it's time to meet Harry and co. would be better. I think many people would get bored with reading their adventures in Faerûn. Even in ATP you didn't have lengthy parts of chapters that weren't Harry-centric but enough to keep the other primary characters relevant. I feel like Hermione and Fleur in Faerûn would be a slight detraction because I just don't know what they could be doing there to contribute to Harry's campaign. But if you do, then bring it on! 4. It's been years since I've played BG, so I don't feel I have anything meaningful to contribute to this question. I'd like to get the BG2 era so that Harry can have his Hermione but I don't wanna miss out on anything else lol. I've always been a completionist in games like these. King of Champions: 1. Yes. I feel like it's a very important step for them. I can see why he never did for so long, there were many reasons. But I think it would be better if he did instead of staying with the lie about his powers and how he knows them so well. As for when, I think it should be after Harry and Pyrrha have sex, which leads into your question 2. I don't know when/if you plan on including Tia/Arturia in the relationship, if you've mentioned it, I must have read to fast, but it would probably be before they were intimate. Would be the last "obstacle" for Tia before she just kidnaps him for awhile lol. 2. I see her as a romantic type but also I see her as one that would easily get caught up in a whirlwind of the new-ness of the relationship and her repressed emotions getting ahead of her... and Harry being pent up from being around his sisters and them having no shame or care about his situation. I feel like them having sex sooner rather than later seems more likely but I also see them slowing down after they get the repression out of their system. Them catching themselves and trying, awkwardly, to have a normal date that doesn't end sans cloths would be amusing to read. Especially if they failed and then felt silly for trying. That would be a good lead into it going into the more romantic aspect. At least that's how I see it. 2. As I've never read the other story, I can't compare. But I feel like it's important to keep some structure of canon to a certain extent. When you feel like it's going to tie you down to much, then break free and run wild. But if you think it can benefit the story to keep those parts, then do it. Which I guess isn't all that helpful of advice, but it's the best I got.

vimesenthusiast

2. I think that a mix would be tough, but doable. Spontaneous and quick to act in certain areas, but not in romance? Something like that. 3. Yeah, the plan is still to break off from canon and Ozpin might well push Harry's RAGE button if he keeps on keeping things to himself. I am just wondering when to do the breaking. I don't want to show Evig Laga entirely from phone call and random OC POVs, but I think that canon plots need to be followed to a certain degree. So traveling is the way to go. Not travel montages, pretty much like I did in chapter 2 - have a conversation, say farewells, arrive. But how long should Harry spend there is the question. Not just in terms of fic-days, but in word count LOL.

vimesenthusiast

Have talked about this before, too different in terms of style, and having two even or uneven leads is hard.

vimesenthusiast

Exactly on the knowledge. Pyrrha is already asking questions. Commanding from afar could work for minor things, laws, maybe even council meetings. But most of that kind of thing I would not want to detail anyway.

vimesenthusiast

KOC - 1. Huh. Interesting idea. But would probably be too much for one scene. 2. Yes in terms of her actions, but not certain in terms of romance - jumping in bed with Harry quickly might be too much or something she would regret if they went through with it. 3. If he travels back it would be for a crisis at this point.

vimesenthusiast

His experience is already shaping his magic ability in this life, as is his leadership skills. I don't think he will need to be there for everything, but yeah, the conflict with WF is going to come up in... i want to say three chapters?

vimesenthusiast

going to break with my plan for the day and ask - are you talking about YJ as it is over on Prime? the really cartoonish one? Or the one from back in the late 90s? AND I ALWAYS WORRY ABOUT WORLD BUILDING. it's one of my things, don't ruin it for me LOL.

vimesenthusiast

I like the idea of it coming up in a date. The problem is that it would mean doing it separately. Then again I was already planning to do that. Tia... his revelations to Tia I might add onto her reaction to his not being her twin (hint, she won't really care all that much, and will in fact be pleased...yes...pleased...) 2. Hmm... getting embarrassed maybe? if it gets too flirty maybe? We'll see about that. The next chapter has some interaction between the two of them. 3. Smaller sections are good - online meetings, talks with his parents, maybe a council meeting where he introduces Pyrrha to the others. A team travel during a break sounds good though, and would serve as a softer introduction than being called home to deal with a Grimm issue.

Iron454

I didn't know you talked about it before, but when you put it that way it makes sense

(I haven't yet read your response to the tactics thread, I will be going back to the tactics thread if Horse or magic wins. I will use it as a way to jumpstart my SW muse) KOC: 1. Maybe not a betrothal for Pyrrha, but i have in mind something similar, a, a Oath one could say. I think Tia would not care at all, while Arturia would be somewhat disbelieving to the resurrection thing. Both of their responses to his not being their blood-brother... would be best described by the phrase 'ara ara'... 2. She didn't change her outfit just because it was less flashy, but because this version is simple better, and she is fighting for the sheer joy of it now and is open about that rather than for the crowd. I think that she would be more than willing to show off a bit in the right circumstances, but i think she would very much prefer to keep things private beyond a certain point. The difference would be between bending over to show Harry her rear a bit. That she would do. But no touches beyond hand and leg, and no kissing in public. Hugging maybe, kissing no. Although i think she could be swept away by emotions - like when dancing or on a date. And you're right, Harry would prefer to be private with his relationship stuff too. 3. I knooooow, but I hate timeskips of more than a week, a few months at the outside. Then again, maybe if i had used them more in ATP, everything wouldn't have felt like it was on comic-time.

vimesenthusiast

What Razgriz 0x said. If horse wins, then next month (september) Magic will be hit with the carry-over effect, so maybe then?

vimesenthusiast

Responding to KOC questions tonight: 1) Since Pyrrha is already in romance territory and is asking questions, she will be the first. to discover things. As for earlier... i don't know. Which revelation is bigger, the whole 'not being your brother' thing, or the 'I was sort of resurrected here with my memories intact' thing. 3) If summer break wasn't a thing it is now LOL.

Reiter

1) The past-life explication doesn't need to come in the date itself (tbh, that could be a mood killer), just the weird stuff that get them confused. hmmmm, the explication could come later, let's say after Pyrrha and Tia compare notes about the weird stuff and decided to go together to ask about it. 2) Niceeeee, I'm really looking forwards to those interactions! I really like the dynamic between the three of them~

vimesenthusiast

Looking only at KOC tonight: 1) Exactly. The question is should Tia be there, or not? I am wondering if I should connect that explanation to a romantic moment or not. definitely in person is the way to go though. At least for that revelation. The parents might try to explain the whole not brother thing over the scrolls LOL. Hmm... not certain if she hasn't already realized he is hiding something that Arturia would be able to this far removed - remember she helped train him and Tia once their Aura was activated. 2. Hmm... I don't know if she would go all in, but once certain events happen and a date is romantic enough she might go further than otherwise could be expected. And I certainly see her as someone who, after a certain point would cede control to Harry LOL. 3. But those flights take more than half a day, so it isn't something he can do at the drop of a hat. As for his father calling him, yeah, Harry knows what to expect. 3.

vimesenthusiast

LOL!! Okay, so when I go through to start outlining the next Journey Gone Astray chapter, I will answer your DC segment first. WOo. I do likes it when my readers give me their opinions. Tonight, though, is just KOC. 1. Hmm... can't say i agree with this one - Tia already has suspicions (not that she cares, just that she finds the speed he learned to use his Semblance weird) and he's already promised to tell Pyrrha about how he was able to do that. So not full explanation, but definately some kind of 'i have memories from a past life' thing. And magic- magic exists here, it's just some of what Harry can do goes beyond what even Oz would know. 2. Not wild, no, but perhaps a bit of an adrenaline junky? certainly a combat junky. 3. He will be traveling back, yeah, and bringing back people. Really, I should have asked if it would be better to do little World Building scenes via scroll chats instead of in-person traveling back to Evig Laga.

vimesenthusiast

KOC today: 3. Nice point! that the cast needs to be at Beacon to learn a lot of things, particularly about Salem. As for SEmblance, that depends on if the stories main point was to have Ranma help deal with her. It wasn't. ON the other hand, there is no question that Harry's powerbase is in Evig Laga. It is the way he is going to really change the world, not just his personal power and abilities.

Braeden1002

I unfortunately have not read either of the other two stories mentioned in this post, so I can really only comment on ‘Bhaalson Remodel’. 1. I think that there is nothing wrong with them learning spells from the Forgotten Realms as it just makes sense all things considered. Yes, Imoen could teach Harry more spells and play them off as being things she has imagined. But that does not make sense as being from Candlekeep they would have had the opportunity to look at magic books and other adventurers. Plus, this could be additional bonding time to deepen relationships between the characters when they are teaching Harry/Imoen. I particularly like it when it comes to Harry and Viconia as she would definitely want to see changes and would reprimand Harry and encourage at the same time. Moreover, if Hermione ends up in the Forgotten Realm as well there is no way that she would not attempt to see what happens and experiment. 2. I am indifferent to the idea and truthfully do not really care one way or the other. But I think it would be more interesting story wise if Imoen were to regain her ability to use her Metamorph powers. 3. I really want to see them come into the world sooner than later. I am for it for two reasons. The first is if Harry and party are at level 11is when they meet up for the beginning of BG2 then besides having to fill in Hermione and Fleur everything that has happened they now have to deal with learning how the rules of world work when there is a greater chance of them being killed. Second, if Hermione and or Fleur stay as magic casters than Harry could be looking to add additional members or Hermione/Fleur have posted a job to a board looking for adventurers to get magical components for them could be how they are introduced. As I unfortunately do not think that Edwin and Dynaheir/Minsc would stay with the group beyond the defeat of Sarevok. What is the paring at the moment? At the moment I am assuming that it is Harry/Vicona/Hermione…? I would be intrigued with Fleur being apart of the relationship and I would like to see her there. But I would not want it to be a forced addition, if you feel that her being added is natural then I am all for it. There is a lot that could be done with her character and which would be interesting to see happen. 4. Personally I want more interaction/combat with world building than rushing to Sarevok and getting to BG2. The thing is there is so much that can be explored but more importantly there is plenty of things that Harry finds more important. Dealing with the persons that attacked his father, helping J&K break their curse, figuring out what Harry’s God would be, etc. Moreover, as they get closer to Sarevok and his operations he would send goons after the group plus someone like this is going to have multiple bolt holes, backup plans, and operations that would need to be dismantled. As someone who plays a lot of D&D and runs different games, I will say that level 11 is a power spike in most cases so you might want to be careful there. Plus, it also depends on how difficult you want to make the final encounter to be when the party finally meets up.

Beleriond

Fair enough, and don't worry about it too much. I know you have a lot of messages to go through, besides your insane update schedule. 1) I was using betrothal as more of a placeholder for permanent relationship. I have GoT and House of the Dragon on my mind. Tia and Asturias reactions are about what I expected, but the question was when to tell them and I stand by that. 2) Well, it is true that she is bold in public. My main objection is that she is used to people trying to get close to her only to use her, so caution in her relationships, whether friendly or romantic, is what I would expect. 3) Maybe rewatch/read the series, and figure out when some time-skips are, like if there are equivalent holidays for halloween and Christmas, or obvious seasonal changes. You could then have Harry going on little adventures back home between episodes. Maybe some of them with Pyrrha and/or Tia, as well as training with Ozpin and Goodwitch.

Kariston Draconis

Yes the YJ over on Prime, though calling it really cartoonish? I suppose that depends on your definition of cartoonish, though I will admit the first season was lighter in tone than subsequent seasons. Keep in mind though, seasons 1 & 2 were designed to sell toys, further seasons weren't.

lostone2

Bhaalson Remodel. 1. I think that you have done enough to make them great. 2. I don't think that Tonks an animal form, especially if it would lock out her Metamorph abilities. 3. For me later: the idea of further adventures in the HP world sounds more appealing to me. Are you sure that we can't get Fleur & Luna, Fleur & Gabrielle, Fleur & Susan or Fleur & Daphne instead? (I think that you're a Harmony shipper (you have mentioned it at some point), but I have strong feelings about her...) For Fleur, I'm definitely in favor of her joining the pairing. For Hermione, it would be amusing if she was involved with Edwin, lol. 4. I would prefer more worldbuilding in BG, personally. I'm in no rush to advance to the events of BG2. Level 11 or 12 sounds fine.

vimesenthusiast

yeah sorry, it has been a while since it was brought up once more. Um... think back in December, maybe? but yeah, people have asked. But unless I make one an adult and have him impact the other (which is an idea, but one I wouldn't be very happy with since it would make the kid more an OC than anything, and would sideline the adult if the emphasis is on the child) growing up, I can't really see the two of them coexisting 'equally'.

vimesenthusiast

Ah, okay, I was just commenting on the actual animation style which looks very much like the old Powerpuff girls. But if that is the case, I can do that.

vimesenthusiast

Now onto Bhaalson Remodel: 1. This seems a general consensus, yeah. I want to play around with the idea that Imoen becomes a whole new class once she dual classes and has access to both local spells and Blood Magic type spells. Whereas Harry will go more straight imagination/Blood Magic skills in new and interesting ways. 2. Again, yeah, people are up in arms about Metamorph not being on the table. This tells me what I wanted to know, and ALSO that I should push her towards that goal in the short-term rather than anything else. 3. The concept of transferring Hermione was set in stone back in the planning stage... into Aerie. Heh. As for Fleur, her becoming a sort of sidekick to Hermione back in HP world was not something I envisioned, but it makes sense to continue it now. As for who she could be, there is a fan-made character, a Tiefling thief, who is really interesting... I WILL NOT replace characters that Harry has already interacted with the two girls. Sadly, this question hasn't been as helpful as I had hoped yet. Still rereading through people's responses. 4. good point on the fact that they have already begun to cool the political tensions. I will need to comment on that aspect when the group gets back to civilization. And it isn't as if they don't have other goals they could pursue. Thanks!

vimesenthusiast

Bhaalson: 2. Barely qualifies as Tonks? Ouch. Imoen was... well depending on the game or book, she was a wet blanket than a lesbian who fell for a Drow (not Viconia) in the books, or a prankster and joker in the game. I think Tonks' personality - flirty, demanding, combative go-getter with a side order of jokester - has replaced Imoen's entirely. However, I can understand that people think Tonks = metamorph powers. This will become a goal for the group going forward. 3. I have only once gone beyond my four-girls max rule - back in Warrior's Way. There, the world was set up to allow for harems. You could argue that harems also exist in this world, but in the game it is very clear the girls' actual personalities would get in the way. So whether or not Fleur joins the relationship or if a fan-made character named Saerilith joins (love her, but there would be a lot of issues) is a question I will need to think about in the future. HOWEVER, that will not impact Fleur coming along with Hermione into the Forgotten Realms world. I do not want Hermione to be alone in her new life, I don't think she would survive well. So that is one vote to have the two of them transfer quickly, huh? Okay.

vimesenthusiast

BR3 - interesting. You and Scott are at the opposite ends of this spectrum. I think the solution here would be to keep the segments with the girls small and on point - no real world building if I follow them in the HP world, then have them have one large or one small adventure before they run into Harry and the gang.

vimesenthusiast

1. Yeah, I think that Hermione would become a new class here: the Scientist Mage.... now that I've said that, I have a lot of interesting things she could be doing... hmm... But yeah, Imoen will want to experiment with the magic of this world, leading to her dual classing (her priority after getting her metamorph powers back) and Viconia will be a force to push them both, just like Edwin and Dynaheir now that they are together. Harry... I want his connection to remain more primal, more based on imagination than spells - I will tie that into his being a Paladin and unable to dual-class. He will follow a more unique path, based on his Blood Magic, Gamer and Leadership skills. I want them all to be Different!! that will both strengthen the group and make it more interesting. 3. You are correct about Edwin not staying with the group - he's already stated he can't go to Baldur's Gate. Viconia has said the same. Beyond that I won't say. However, the character Hermione takes over is not in the Sword Coast at all. Nor is the one I have chosen for Fleur (keeping them together is a must). It would be several in-fic months before they meet up, if not longer. So I will be keeping their segments small for now, just enough to show they are working on things. As for the pairing, this is up in the air at present. Viconia is a lock, but there will be a largish break in their relationship going forward. In the original game, Jaheira becomes a love interest in BG2... we will see on that. Saerilith is a mod character I absolutely love, but there would be several issues there. Bringing her into the fic is a lock, but romance? We will see. Hermione was a lock as well, and replaces a love interest from the second game - hence why it will be a while before they meet in the Forgotten Realms, but we will see. Fleur becomes a tiefling. I could seriously see her just being a free loving sort of person, not really with Harry but more than willing to join in. 4. Yeah, Harry and co. will take some time to do side-quests and level up for a while. I think they will make that decision near the end of the next chapter.

vimesenthusiast

3. Eh, I was a Harmony fan right up until the fifth book. Then everything went wrong. Hence why I like to correct this gross mistake of all things romance (really, opposites attract is such BS)

Alex Crate

That's a good idea. It lets them come into the world and get a taste of it before meeting up with Harry. It takes a bit of a burden off Harry trying to explain the world (and your fingers for having to type it out) and would probably make the meeting of the two all the sweeter. I read it in another comment too, but Fleur joining the relationship would be interesting but her just joining in every once in a while would be just as fine. But I think the issue with that would be if you had her with anyone else as well... other than maybe Tonks, then people would get upset and start saying that Harry is getting "cucked". I don't know how you would wanna deal with it, but I know it's a concern.

vimesenthusiast

Medusa is an unknown to me. Ra’s has already made an introduction, Lady Shiva I do not think will show. Or if she does, it will be background, as in ow Batman can show up, he is dealing with this. I am really leery about using Cassandra Cain because she came around well after I basically dropped all of DC comics. I think you mean span the entire story instead of day? And no. The only two characters on the Villain side of things that would remain in the background constantly would be the sentient Jusenkyo (the demon will be very unhappy that Ranma both got what he wanted out of going there, and is later cured of his curse) and Darkseid. Bizarro is just one of the many enemies whose creation story makes absolutely no sense to me, and his inclusion here was part of my inner muses cry out to that fact. As for needing someone on good on the electronic side, that’s not needed either. To be perfectly frank, given the number of different super girls there, I was spoiled for choice as to which background story I was going to go with. I’ve already established in chapter 1 that this Kara is the daughter of two scientists, extremely used to high technology, and able to invent technology of a similar nature and ability. On the other hand, other patrons have mentioned that cyborg was one of the sole reasons why the teen Titans were able to act as a unit, given the disparate personalities involved. That kind of calm and influence could be useful.

vimesenthusiast

Harley Quinn is certainly going to show up, and where she does, poison ivy often follows. Catwoman, Ranma will probably meet as something rather than Catwoman, because to be frank, Ranma is not going to be spending much time around Gotham. It is an incredibly depressing place for most outsiders, and while it is going to be the fuel that brings him to America, there’s a lot more of the nation out there to see. Lady Shiva… You’re not the only one to mention her, and going back over my notes, I noticed that I had already responded to this point with something else. Looking between it and my first response to it now, I have to say that yes, I think she will show up at one point or another, mostly to present herself against Ranma, and maybe for some more carnal issues. Whether or not that succeeds, is distinct question that cannot be answered. I’m not much interest in the bat family either. And I literally have no knowledge of Cassandra Cain, she came around well after I dropped DC comics. If I go with the idea of lady Shiva showing up for Ranma, then Cassandra won’t exist. In the initial outline, Cadmus and perforce Superboy would not like Ranma at all. For one thing, he is very open about magic, not just the fists, but because of his curse. For another, is equally open about his abilities, and really care about American law whatsoever. He barely cares about Japanese law, and follows his own code, which is very different than the one Superman Batman or any of the other capes follow. On the one hand, his code is one that the common man would really be able to find, but on the other hand, it is one that governments would like whatsoever. So Superboy will be kind of set up from the very start in a antagonistic role. Beast boy, I honestly have to think that he needs to chill it down. He tries to hard to be funny, to be the life of the party, but I think with Ranma around, that he can be toned down, and then grow as an individual rather than a caricature. Artemis, I just can’t see showing up. Maybe in a cameo, but she doesn’t bring enough to the team to really matter much. Sorry. I know that my Harry tends to have a American accent LOL. Sorry, can’t help it. Although I am interested in the issues you think he is too American on. Besides gun-control obviously. That one, I know he is very much American rather than British on.

vimesenthusiast

I am actually going to go with the idea of throwing out every back story I don’t like. As I have mentioned several times, a third path to the future just became too large, too many characters, too many issues and plot lines that I was keeping up in the air. I’m relatively happy with how it has turned out so far, but I know there have been several large issues despite that. So I will be mixing up quite a few of the original back stories, trying to make them make sense, trying to stick to a single sort of timeline sort of area in the original timeline. As for specific villains, I’m going to refer to my original concept here. I added a new tag called Ranma/DC cross, and it is connected to the first chapter of this work, a journey gone astray, and the DC concept revamped. Look for major enemies and minor tool bags if you wish to know the kind of enemies that Ranma and the rest of the group will fight. The only difference I’ve made there is that I have decided not to use Flash’s rogue gallery. In many ways, this story will be a sort of coming-of-age story. What does Kara want out of life? Does she really wants to be a hero, does she want to be a scientist, does she want to be associated with the name Supergirl all her life? What does Ranma want out of life beyond martial arts? Does he really just want martial arts, stay by his friends, and have fun? (For the most part, that will be just a big yes) the others will all have the same similar questions. I do like the idea of the meeting to have a multitude of talents. Superstrength however, is going to kind of be overtime on the team LOL. I think having a weakness in terms of psionics could be interesting same with the idea of not having a intelligent person. Funny or technology is going to be an issue either.. Ranma will be learning how to use magic, his own fashion shall we say. At first, it will be a little resentful of it, and of the whole Shazam idea, only using it when necessary. But eventually, they’ll realize it’s just another tool in his large toolbox LOL. I actually like the idea of there not being any misunderstandings within the team. I think removing that aspect of drama and angst is a great idea. I’m not interested in keeping the characters as they are, or making them too dark or using those misunderstandings to ramp up the drama. It’s not something I’m interested in, if you want something like that, read Robert Jordan LOL. {I do also note how you mentioned flight being a superpower that is far too often utilized. That’s hilarious, and I really like the point.} Sort of the rationale against using Miss Martian. I really liked the Martian man mid-90s backstory. I thought it was poignant, I thought it was very dark, but like the best of fables should be, dark but with silver lining, and a lesson to teach. The idea that there are still militant group of white Martians out there is not one I want to play with. I really don’t want to go into alternate dimensions and that kind of thing. Cloning I can deal with, alternate dimensions, time travel, god no! Time travel is a big no-no, something I stated for a third path, something that I was going to continue here. Batgirl… No. I’m having trouble talking myself into using either version of the robins, and with the idea that Cassandra Cain isn’t going to be around just yet, there isn’t really a Batgirl who wouldn’t bring an overabundance of baggage along. Trans-humanism plot lines For cyborg? No. Don’t get me wrong, I like how Lois McMaster Bujold handles it in her series, but I don’t trust myself to be able to do so. Aqualad is an interesting one. I could maybe expand on his magical abilities, if the team another magic user beyond Ranma, and what is actually enthusiastic with it to start with. Zatanna I already mentioned in the fic as being part of the Justice league, there nominal expert along with Diana in terms of magical enemies. I’m really not into the whole flip. hidden traitor, betrayal idea. If I use that at all, the only one I would use it with would be Superboy.

vimesenthusiast

Yeah, Slade is one of the enemies on the choppy chop. Maybe having Terra around could be good for a chapter, but not for longer

vimesenthusiast

Hm.. Novus has given me enough of an opinion LOL on Robin and Batgirl. Why kid Flash? Just because you think he wouldn’t want/be allowed to travel? The idea Behind the group will be twofold. One will be to place Kori around similar people from Earth, in order to acclimate herself. The other will be to allow these young people, these up-and-coming heroes to be allowed to train together, grow stronger, and build a more permanent Justice league going forward. I won’t harp on it much, but there will already be clicks forming within the Justice league, and Diana and Superman will be very aware of this. They will be sent on missions occasionally, predominantly because Ranma and the others will bring such a eclectic group of skills to things. I am uncertain about using aliens for the majority of smalltime enemies, but one or two will show up, and Darkseid will be the primary long-term enemy. Notable others will include doomsday, his first appearance will be around I want to say eight months to a year after the event from the planned chapter 3 which will have brought the disparate characters all together for the first time. I like the idea of Cassandra Cain not getting involved with the bat family, however, I literally know nothing about her as a character. She seems to have come around after I dropped DC comics, so I’m not certain how to use her. Furthermore, I don’t see her is bringing anything unique to the team. Ranma is already a martial artist par excellence, who will probably have to take on Batman in chapter 2 for a little while, and prove well above him in terms of skill and strength. So maybe an adopted little sister, but I don’t know about her age. Here, with the female Martian man Hunter, I’m going to stamp a hard no. I think that the idea of having Mars be inhabited is a bit too much, and I really honestly preferred the eighty-two man Hunter 90s version of the Martian manhunter’ background. That he was the last of his race I mean. Furthermore, with kori and her powers of empathy, a telepath really isn’t all that necessary.

Matthew Williams

I meant more that it'd be really difficult to write him as a villain or anit-hero without going very dark if you plan to incorporate either Rose or Terra as characters for the Titans. Just because their arcs are rather inextricably tied to what Slade does to them. I still think he can be a fantastic antagonist--he's brilliant in both the animated show and the comics and a legit JL-level threat because of his tactical skills, especially when partnered with others--but it'd be a hard sell narratively if you want to keep things light to include both him and either of his two female proteges. I think he could be an interesting foil for Ranma physically; perhaps go the Teen Titans animated show route and have Slade interested in Ranma as a prospective apprentice as he was with Robin. Or, hell, Gemma could get wrapped up with him while going on those black ops missions for the Japanese government and he could twist GENMA into a villain. Both of them do operate under some skewed understanding of an Honor Code. That could be an interesting side plot. Anyways, getting off-track here. Basically, I don't think Slade needs to be or even should be put on the chopping block. He's one of the better written antagonists with a wealth of material to pull from for a reason. It just would be difficult if you actually wanted to make Terra or Rose heroes with Donna, Ranma, and everyone.

Teraseneste

1. When it comes to DC characters everyone has their favorites. I will limit myself to three since you are trying not to have to many. First, Steel; I like the idea of the man who builds himself into a hero and while he doesn’t have much in the way of personal power outside his suit, he has that core of a hero and is about finding the answers to problems in more ways than just raw strength though he still uses plenty of that. Second, Zatanna; I like the magic, and I think she is one of the few that really makes the whole superhero life vs personal life thing work well and can be a good influence. Last, Black Adam; I prefer the versions of him that act as more of an anti-hero and leader of Kandaq than the evil versions. I think that those three could mix well with the characters that are already a part of the story, especially Ranma. When it comes to tossing the Central City and most of the Gotham heroes and rogues, I would just leave that whole set as an off-screen thing and only mention them if it is somehow going to effect the main characters. I’m not really an exclusion kind of guy when it comes to these stories so I can only recommend that if you really don’t like a certain hero or villain then you should just not include them 2. I like the idea of them mostly traveling the world with the intent of dealing with magical threats and winding up dealing with a few low to mid-tier normal bad guys with maybe a passing sort of thing with a couple of big-name villains which is how they keep meeting some of the big-name heroes that come to deal with them. When it comes to Darkseid as the looming big threat, I think that it kind of goes to far because he is a galactic level enemy and rather OP. Unfortunately, I can’t think of anyone else to pick that would work as a long term enemy that would be drawn to their group as something to take care of. 3. Batgirl – The most well known and iconic version of her is the Barbara Gordan version, though I am far more partial Barbara as Oracle and like the Cassandra version of Batgirl before she gets manipulated into going rogue. Female Martian – I was never a big fan and wasn’t really sure of her story myself, so I’m of the opinion to take her or leave her however you like. Superboy – I’m actually in agreement that Superboy and Ranma would not get along unless their first meeting involved them commiserating over their crappy fathers. (I include both Superman and Lex for Superboy, though I’m unsure if he would know that at the time of his introduction considering that he was on the team a while before Luthor made that known.) Bizarro Superman – This is another one that I can take or leave and would only say that he could be used if you are going to make Superman play a large role in that section. Cyborg – I haven’t followed him to much, but I know that his origin is that after an accident, his genius scientist father built him into a cyborg to save his life and ever since he has fought to keep his humanity because the machine parts make up more of him than the organic. Deathstroke trained girl – I agree that the sanity check has failed on that one and it should probably just be ignored. I don’t really have much of a wish to see anyone specific on the team so have fun with that. As a small add on, I like Beast Boy; but not that fop they use in the Teen Titans cartoon, but the one from the comics that uses humor but doesn’t come across as a stupid kid that can’t be serious to save his life. 4. I like the fact that this isn’t going to be a huge world building story as Ranma isn’t really much for that kind of thing and is much more of a make his way through the world and just do what he thinks is right when it is right in front of him. 5. I have not really noticed to much in the way of big mistakes in your works that I have read except that on occasion you have forgotten that you already covered something and your second touch has a slightly different take to it. Good luck. I haven’t actually gotten into the other works you are asking about so I’m not going to try and answer the questions or give opinions.

vimesenthusiast

Okay, so I looked back at my initial Ranma/DC concept as I was wondering why you hadn’t brought up some of these points when I had initially thought up this idea. I had already stated during that concept discussion that I was going to be typing away paring down and make up large portions of various peoples back stories. To whit, I have already done so for Cassie Sandsmark and Donna Troy. I’ve already chosen a back story for Kara although I haven’t gone into it deeply yet. That being said I may have gotten some of my concepts about the backgrounds of the two teams confused by fanfics LOL. I honestly can’t remember where I read it, but Batman got behind the idea of a team to give Robin some leadership experience. If is no basis in canon that I won’t bring it up in the story. Although I will probably use Zatanna as a internal source of antagonism between the Justice league Ranma, and eventually Raven. The reason behind why she would like Ranma is because of his curse, and therefore his connection to a demon, the demon who powers the cursed springs, a demon of chaos. It will not like Ranma at all after a certain point. After all, as already noted in chapter 1, Ranma deliberately got himself cursed here, and even was able to get the curse you wanted. Something that demon will eventually become aware of, and not like at all. Superboy is actually not originally young Justice material. He was introduced in the aftermath of the death of Superman, and that is the era that I am going to be using as a basis here. Primarily, it has to be said, because after what I call the Green Lantern war, where Hal Jordan turned against the rest of the Green Lantern’s, I lost interest in DC comics for a while. And I had never really been a fan of Batman to begin with LOL. So yeah, I will be making a mishmash of things here. I’m not going to be world building with this story nearly as much as you might think. Simply because in this story, Ranma isn’t going to be out to solve all the issues, or build up an empire or anything like that. He’s out to become the best martial artist and fighter he can be and have fun with his friends while doing it. I suppose you could call it a coming-of-age story for a lot of the characters, as they will be around 18 to 20 most of them, and will mature throughout the story somewhat, but for the most part, this story is going to be about romance, fun, comedy, and Ranma the chaotic font having an impact on the DC universe. There will be a lot of violence, for certain, a but I’m going to be only using droplets of Drama to quarts of comedy and romance LOL. You don’t need to worry about me taking on all of DC, as you say I did in marvel, (and you’re right) 2. On the topic of magic, Raven won’t be the only magic user. Again, this goes back to the actual concept I talked about. Ranma will discover that heritage includes a connection to Merlin/Shazam, and will be able to call upon magic, as well as the powerful form of Shazam. You won’t like to do it, but he will eventually realize that magic is just another tool in his bag of tricks. I’m also thinking of adding in Aqualad as he seems to also have some magic abilities. 3. Cassandra Cain seems to be a fan favorite I have to say. The only reason I initially thought about using batgirl at all, was because I was uncertain why she wasn’t part of the original group back when Nightwing was. And then I discovered that Barbara Gordon slept with Bruce. So no. not only am I not going there, but if it ever actually comes up in the story, Ranma is going to rag on it hard, her heart, and Bruce and the entire bat family. As for Miss Martian, I’m not going to go there. I like the original Martian man hunters story, that he was the last survivor of his race. I’m not going to redo it like they did in the original so often. LOL on Superboy. In my original outline, I had Cadmus as being a group to be very much against Ranma and anyone associated with him, because he’s very blunt about magic existing, and very antiauthoritarian, which is a government-sponsored group would not like. Superboy would be there mole inside the organization, but I don’t think he would be sticking around for very long LOL. I mentioned Bizarro specifically, but I suppose I should have simply stated any extra-dimensional characters. I really don’t want to open up that box of worms. I successfully negated the whole time travel business in ATP, and I want to continue that trend here. I like the original cyborg’s back story, although I am not certain I would go with it here. Perhaps I will de-age John Henry Irons? I really like the character, especially in the same timeframe as I am thinking of using, i.e. the age leading up to the death of Superman and directly beyond. Star fire is well she’s going to be the catalyst that eventually gets the core polyamorous group together. Initially, she will be the first one to really understand my friendship is attraction now to Ranma, as Cassie will be feeling torn in two different directions, and Kara will be very much uncertain about her own feelings. A empath can get you over that kind of thing very quickly if she thinks more fun time is in the offing. And since my team will have communication ability to fill a fumble, yes, Tara will probably only show up as a plot point to why Deathstroke has to die. 5. I agree with pregnancies being an idea that needs to be dealt with carefully. I didn’t need to jump through hoops with Jean, but frankly, I don’t think I could’ve gotten out of it, with the whole Phoenix being the avatar of life in rebirth thing. You can tell me I told you so if you wish LOL, although I think that in the end, it has turned out as well as it could have. Not every story needs to be able to run smoothly after all. But don’t worry, I’m not going to go into that idea here, Ranma isn’t Harry Potter, and he isn’t really that into families, certainly not at this point in his life where he isn’t even as at home with the idea as my making waves Ranma is or my horse for the force Ranma is.

-Ranma / DC- Maybe Konatsu could join the team because he swore to serve Ranma instead of Ukyo as this Ranma has had Ninja training and he being more empathetic should have helped him. I would like Cassandra Kain as Ranma's little sister. If Poison Ivy hadn't killed innocent people and the base was located on an island she could be recruited as a gardener and caretaker. Ivy mum? It wouldn't surprise me if she tried to adopt Beast Boy because of her color and the relationship between their powers. Pamela would make a good matron for a metahuman orphanage or with other talents. Perhaps the Lords of Order and Chaos may already be dead because otherwise Ranma would be hunted by both sides. The objectives that the team will focus on could be: local supervillains, American mythological problems, block/rescue during international natural disasters (earthquake, tsunami, tornado, etc.) and global crises.

Alright! I have, in fact, been reading these as you reply. Buy figured I'd wait for you to finish ;-). I'm sure you've got a ton of replies to go over, so I'll try to keep this concise. Though with KoC I'm going to fail a little...and probably with the DC too. So…sorry :-p. KoC 1. I should have expanded on my reasons for not telling them, but by the time I had worked through DC and Bhaalson... Anyway, I understand where you're coming from, and it's your story (obviously). Telling them isn't even a bad thing, strictly speaking. HOWEVER, there is something to be, well, 'aware of,’ I guess. As an author myself, I tend to notice patterns (I'm sure it happens to you, as well), and there's a sort of problematic one that pops up regularly in Isseki novels and 'reborn as/in' fanfiction. That being that, the more the main character uses their past life knowledge or, worse, tells other people about their past life, the more that past life and it's events start to dominate the story. A common example with Harry Potter crosses specifically is that the more he reveals about his past life and all that happened in it, the more his 'traumas' from that life are pulled to the forefront of the story. And the more other characters obsess about reacting to events of his past life, for that matter. They want to strangle the Dursleys, or ask questions about Dumbledore, or offer comfort for his lost friends. Etc. Etc. Etc. Technically, nothing is wrong with that. But it ends up dragging the story away from the world they are actually in, and forcing focus onto things that aren't even relevant anymore, or have no relation to the story you actually want to tell. They become a word-eating rabbit trail that detracts from your actual plot. You sidestepped this (intentionally or not) handily in ATP, Magic of the Force, and Bhaalson by different methods. In Magic of the Force, he was too young to have built up much history. In ATP he'd long ago put most or all of his original world behind him, while he was still in the negative zone, prior to the story start. Bhaalson...again, you got him young. Though your decision to include Hermione at some point is actually a dangerous potential vector for this to still sneak in. I'm not really against them being told, so much as I'm concerned telling them will become a trap that detours you away from your actual goal for the story. But you'll have a better feel than I ever could for that, since you know (or can figure out) how you want to handle it. Again, just a 'to be aware of' sort of thought. 2. Adrenaline junky I can see, but I don't really know how that would translate to romance. If she was Yang flavor of adrenaline junky, it would be obvious. But that's not quite her mold. The more I think on it, the more I feel she'd be more inclined to Romance, but 'non-traditional' romance. No need for candlelight dinners, but still a need for the same sort of romantic encounter, just tailored more for her. A night stargazing rather than a night on a traditional date. Things like that. 3. Honestly, I'd say mix and match. Do the scroll chats for most things, then travel for just one or two major events. Bhaalson Remodel 1. Seems logical. 2. Yay! Seriously, the Metamorph ability is ignored weirdly often even in fics which Tonks is a major part of. The power has so much potential, yet no one ever seems to bother exploring it. Though...something to think on. Just how will the ability to do things like physically altering her musculature affect her Stats? It would be sad to cripple the metamorph ability. But at the same time...it might actually be a little broken-as-hell in the setting? Just something to think about. 3. A Fan-made Tiefling thief? That...wouldn't be Fade would it? She was one of the best mod NPCs I've ever seen. Though I think there were a couple of other mod Tieflings floating around. They are a well liked raced for various reasons. 4. Glad that thought might be helpful! A Journey Gone Astray Okay. So, first...I apparently somehow actually missed the first chapter you wrote of this. No idea how, since your patreon is probably the one I follow more closely than any other. Hence my failure to bring the issues up then ;-). Going back and reading it yesterday cleared up at least some of the confusion. Though you're still looking at a LOT of background surgery to backstories to glue your proposed team together. You’ve made a solid start on that with, as you mentioned, Cassie and Kara. As well as Diana herself. The Batman thing...it's possible there's some version of the Titans where that was true? I'm honestly most familiar with the original Teen Titans cartoon series. Then with a few comics of ONE version of them. I know there have been multiple iterations of the team. But, given the characters you mentioned (Robin, Starfire, Raven, Cyborg, Beast Boy), I assumed you were using the cartoon team. I did a little digging to double check and Batman only appeared once, very briefly, in the original cartoon series. Though he was more present, apparently, in the Go! remake. I HATED the Go! remake, so I don't know that much about it. It handled Cyborg and Beastboy...insultingly, I felt. Either way, my best guess is him being supportive of the Titan’s team isn’t canon. He wasn’t exactly happy about Young Justice, either. I'm afraid you have the advantage of me on Superboy. I only know the Young Justice version of him very well. I know there are other versions, of course, but I'm not very familiar with any of them. I'm honestly more a Marvel person than DC, so I'm a little spottier in my DC coverage. Ergo, I'll take your word for it ;-). 2. That's...an odd choice for Ranma, honestly. But I trust you'll make it work. You've certainly done amazing things with much weirder combinations. And Aqualad might be a good addition if you go the Magic Route. I'm mostly familiar with the Young Justice version of him. But that version was pretty well grounded and a good Team Leader (thank God, since the Young Justice Robin needed someone to sit on him so that he didn't shoot himself in the foot, then everyone else too). And yes, most of his abilities in Young Justice are/were magic based. 3. Yeah, the Barbara Gordon version of Batgirl is kinda a mess. Cassandra though, would probably get along well with pretty much everyone you want to include. 4. Cadmus. Ah. You're using a different version of Cadmus than I was thinking (I was thinking of the Young Justice Version, which wasn't government run). That makes more sense then. 5. Cyborg. His Mother Box backstory only really fits if you're going with Darkseid as the Big Bad. As for John Henry Irons...I think he had a niece named Natasha Irons in one of the series? Though if you're trying to inject male characters to counterbalance all the female cast, that wouldn’t help much ;-). Still, if you do the whole Wonder Woman being a backer thing, a female heavy cast makes sense of a sort. 6. Starfire - Excellent use for her. Particularly given Tamaranean culture. 7. Seriously, look into Atlee. She's only very loosely related to the Tara from the cartoon Teen Titans. Specifically, because 'Terra' is actually a title, not a name. And both were originally genetically-altered representatives of a sub-terraranan species of geokientics on earth. Only something went wonky with the Teen Titans Tara. Atlee only shares the title. And she's an interesting (and fun) character. 8. (actually 5, but I'm making up numbers at this point). You totally did have to jump through hoops with Jean. You literally had to pull a Deus Ex Machina and Depregnantfiy (a word I'm fairly sure doesn't exist) her at one point -_-. That's less jumping through a hoop and more 'pay no attention to the man behind the curtain as he BUILDS a hoop for the character to jump through.' ;-) 9. Random point of order caused by me actually reading the first chapter of Journey Gone Astray. The Wonder Woman vs Superman physical strength thing is actually hotly debated and varies wildly by author. Physical Strength wise she's actually at or beyond Kryptonian levels, though. She got into a slugging match with Power Girl at one point and basically treated her with kid gloves...then utterly smacked her down when PG didn't knock it off. And both she and Superman have accomplished similar feats of strength. WW herself, in at least one timeline, actually admitted she didn't KNOW what her upper limit was...because she'd never actually found something she couldn't lift/move. Not really important. But if you do more scenes between the two of them, possibly a point of interest.

Because if Kid flash is not part of the group there is no reason for the Flash and his rouge gallery to seek them out and you can toss them out the window keeping the number of included characters down. I actually remove my objections to Batgirl and Robin since if Rama has already been to Gotham and interacted with Batman and the Joker before the team is formed then not adding the junior bats to it would do nothing to prevent Rama from gaining the attention of the Gotham Rouges. Casandra would bring no new skills to the group as she could be described as a Rama expy with an even worse father, David Cain one of the top 5 assassins in the world and a member of the League of Assassins. After failing several times to train the ultimate martial artist he isolates Cassandra at birth and trains her to have body language reading abilities that surpass empathy to reach the borders of telepathy and precognition at the cost of being unable to speak or read. The point of including her would be to have Rama interact with a younger version of himself that needs help to get past her training induce mental disability, Cassie to interact with a non-amazon female warrior, and Kori to interact with someone else who is a functional empath. Not to mention since Cassandra's body language reading is her only language could Kori learn it with a kiss? As for her age she runs away from David at 8 and is found by Batman at 17 with no backstory for the missing years being given. So if you include her she can be any age from 9 to 16 and show up anywhere.

Will answer in more depth later - Fade doesn't... look right? There might be another teifling thief mod out there, her portrait is not one I remember. Need to find my old BG mods stuff

Could be Amber too. I think she was a tiefling fighter/thief. Also well written. Or it could be another entirely that I'm not familiar with. Tiefling are a favorite race choice of theives.

Ranma/DC 1. While i think you did a great job in ATP to keep characters interesting and different there was defiantly a lot of characters and it did seem to get in the way of focusing more heavily on the "Main" characters (which might have been different for different readers). Thus i think taking a more focused approach to this new Ranma/DC story makes sense. Personally I think choosing some more down to earth characters like the bat-fam and Green Arrow squad would provide some good grounding against the largely alien/supernatural main pairing. By that same vein I think missing out on the Flash and his more personable style and caring persona would be a mistake. If anyone from the main JL cast should be shoved to the side I would say it should be Lantern and the Hawks. I would include Aquaman and the Atlanteans as well but someone with control over water plus ranma just has too much comedy potential. As far as the continued survival of any particular rogues gallery I don’t think anyone is essential and some people really don’t deserve to survive. At the same time I think that if death becomes too common where ranma is involved he might come into conflict with Bats and Sups but hey that could be fun. Either way I trust you 2. I definitely like the idea of this young justice/teen titans group focusing on “smaller” villains and more personal crimes. I do think the league of assassins would be a good recurring enemy to ranma but SG and Starfire power scale way above them in a straight fight, so that might be less interesting. Otherwise i think darkside and the new gods could be a good looming threat but if raven becomes more prominent Trigon could also fulfill a similar role if ranma vs darkseid is too unbalanced of a fight. 3. Batgirl: the only version I know of is Barbara Gordon and I think having her be the same age as WG and SG could work pretty well. If there are other versions I have no idea about then i’m excited to meet and learn about them. Miss Martian: my only exposure to this character is from the young justice show where she is a white martian who starts out hiding her origins from the team and slowly learns to trust the team with her secrets. Not sure how accurate that is to her comic iterations though so not sure how much of a help that is Superboy: same thing as Miss Martian only exposure is through the young justice show where he is the hothead of the group with “daddy” issues cause sups ignores him for reasons. I think he could be an okay character especially with how prominent SG will probably be so she can have a little brother character who she can help with. Bizarro superman: No idea who this is so i’m just as confused as you Cyborg: Absolutely no idea i vaguely remember him from the original teen titans show but you probably know his personality and story from that better than I do Not sure who you mean by girl trained by deathstroke cause from what i know that could be a couple different characters as far as i know (artemis or cassandra cain) but i’m only aware of their Existence and know very little about their individual arcs Again as I think the Flash should be included I naturally think kid flash (wally west) should be included in your list of characters because his and his mentors shenanigans with Ranma will be awesome Finally I think Aqualad or some other atlantean would be a good serious presence for the team though if the batboy you intend to use is Dick Grayson after the robin years (IE Nightwing) he could also fill that role 4. I personally prefer this outcome for this group. If you had wanted to integrate Ranma into the Justice League itself with bats, sups and WW then i would hope for a more fleshed out world like ATP but since their not operating on that level I actually prefer if they leave the worlds problems to the big boys and focus on smaller things otherwise it might becomes a question of what exactly the Justice League is even doing. 5. My biggest issue with ATP has been a recent trend to gloss over some interactions and events (like with the Corporations/Country or the side teams). However since I think this was caused primarily by the absolutely massive roster of characters built up in ATP. As it seems from this discussion you're making a point to try and keep the roster more manageable with this story. Otherwise keep up the good work and i’m excited to see where this goes Bhalson: 1. I like where the blood mage spells are now and i think for them to gain true access to FR spells they should need too multiclass. I do think it would be okay for them to imitate the effects of certain FR spells with blood magic though so a little bit of both? 2. No I think Imoen’s metamorph power should exclude her from having any other transformative ability 3. I think Hermione and Fleur should stay in the “real” world for now especially since we don’t know for sure which FR characters they will be assuming the identities of.

1. For sure, I fully agree with the idea of making everyone unique and different. As those changes would create different scenarios and situations for everyone and even how they would figure out and work through the different situations. In terms of Harry being a Paladin, what is stopping you from creating a God/Goddess that suits his particular mindset but still conforms to the world realm? The only reason I am asking depending on who he chooses a lot of things would be locked and prevent him from experimenting or going against the grain; which is why I was wondering if there was like a God of change or something along those lines. 3. Why can't Viconia go to Baldur's Gate again? If it is due to her being a drow would Imoen or Harry have enough power that they could adjust her hair and skin colour to be more like a traditional elf. I have sort of wanted to see Harry paired with Jaheria as I always felt that would have been an interesting pairing and there is much that they would both bring to the relationship. However, I don't know how this would develop as the ideas that I have just would make an awkward dynamic. Why did you decide to have Fleur become a tiefling and not an Asamair or a human/elf with lycanthropy (and turn into a bird)? I do not know who Saerilith is but I would say that just let things develop naturally and I am sure that she would eventually just become a part of the group. Though one thing I am curios about, would the adventuring party just become Harry and those that love him? As that sort of seems like the direction things are going or at least has the potential to go that route. I kind of want the group to stay diverse and with Harry/Imoen using the silence spell on tents.
