Still with my family, not able to do much work, exhausted. typing on my phone.

BUT I received a warning from a fan over on fanfic that my Patreon content has been leaked.  And not just a bit, or because someone tried to change it into their native language, but a large chunk of my patreon content, and keeping it in English.  It looks like someone is just copying out a lot of my work and threads.  That means that someone among my patrons is sharing my content.  

I don't ask for much guys.  But some respect for the amount of work I put into this is one of them.  I DO NOT and HAVE NEVER allowed other people to just copy my fucking work.  This is really annoying me.  Whovever is doing this, fucking stop it, you goddamn troll.

Did the fan tell you where they found your content? And if so, have you attempted to get it removed from the other sites it's been uploaded to?

The sentiment is nice, but that would never stand up in court, since writing fanfiction means he legally has no rights to any of it. I do agree that whoever is doing this is an asshole though, it's one thing to write creative fanfiction and another to blatantly plagiarize someone else's work.

That would actually be a rather interesting legal case as Vimesenthusiast does clearly state that he does not own the materials themselves. Vimesenthusiast does however have a legal claim with regards to access on his Patreon account. Membership provides a service in which Vimesenthusiast offers early or exclusive access to works of his own labour. This @$$hole is stealing profits from Vimesenthusiast by giving out what is meant as a subscription service for free.

Hmm, I can see your point, but isn't part of the point of patreon being that it runs on "donations" to avoid this exact kind of legal battle? I mean, technically, making profit by selling fanfiction isn't legal in the first place, right?

But, Vimesenthusiast does provide free access to his fanfiction, at least when it's far enough along. The fan fiction itself wouldn't be the basis of the lawsuit, but rather the early access to it; as well as the other forms of participation.

i'm really sorry to hear that, i know it must be really annoying. i don't understand why people are so desperate from internet clout to do things like blatantly steal others fanfiction or artwork. hope you're able to figure out who it is

lol no problem, i love this kind of shit. my parents always tried to get me into debate clubs and similar, but that would involve talking to people in person and fuck that noise XD

I don't know if this is an option but I know some sites have 'watermarks' on downloaded things that mark them with the downloader's username/email. Anyone know if that's possible via patreon?

Probably, depending on what kind of site it was put on. But he would have to go through the effort of tracking it down and reporting it wherever it's found. Even leaving aside that someone is stealing like this, it would be a significant and constant annoyance.

Sorry to see someone has so little respect for your hard work Vime to just repost things you earn money from. Is there still an option in PDF or Word docs to make something read only without selecting available? I kind of remember from back in college needing to deal with PDF or Docs that would not allow any export of text, or even highlight and copy of text.

Sitrep. So I have done some research into this, the site where my stuff has been reposted is a pirate site. It basically hosts a lot of patreon content not just my own. Primordial vortex, you might ant to look into it too. Unfortunately that means they have. I interest in listening to people like me complaining about it. Nor do I actually know how they are getting anything. It is a full site rip, they take everything from my site and several others. However site rips work, I don’t think it has anything to do with being allowed to access it. At least, I don’t think so. I… honestly doubt there is anything I can do about this guys. Pirating on the internet is too easy and intrenched. But I suppose I can warn other writers and see.

I'm not sure if it is the same site or a successor but I know that at least since 2018 most of the pay-walled content on this webpage has been available by free on the internet. Patreon has to be aware of them since years ago. I'm not sure if other sites like SuscribeStar are similarly affected, but Patreon will always to be the biggest target, as it's the most known. I'm sorry for the stess that you have suffered. I was under the impression that it was something that it was known for almost everyone that is familiar with this site.

There are workarouns about that kind of protection. Also, the text in the posts can be easily copied and pasted. It's how I collect the stories fromthis site in my personal .epubs. Avoiding the conversion with Calibre and the posterior edition with Sigil saves quite a bit of time.

If those work around existed during my college years, copying text that I wanted to cite in papers would have been SO much easier. Also...this whole situation sucks. Vice, any idea if you could bring the pirate site to Patreon's attention and see if they would go after the site?
