Here's a video in which I discuss what Walking Simulators are, why they're awesome, and why a lot of people are playing them wrong. I hope you enjoy. By the way, sorry about the long wait, but this took waaaaaaaaay too long to make for some reason. I don't even really know why.

Subtitles have been added, will get adjusted tomorrow. Description and all that will also follow.

Edit from 25.07.24: now with subtitles, description and all that.

How Do You Play A Game Without Gameplay?

"Walking Simulators have no gameplay", people cry. "All you do is walk!" But is that true? Or is there a form of "gameplay" that those people aren't aware of? Yes. ▶Link to my own Walking Sim: https://www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/136944-moving-a-doom-walking-simulator-definitive-edition/ (Requires GZDoom and a copy of DOOM2.WAD. You can also use Freedoom 2, a free alternative to Doom 2. You just need some textures.) ▶Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/GermanPeter ▶Twitter: https://twitter.com/RealGermanPeter ▶Discord: https://discord.gg/WKd9323 ▶Thumbnail by Jestrous https://twitter.com/Jestrous_ ▶Videos: Super Mario 64 - Full Game 100% Walkthrough (All 120 Stars) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssNjE0aBPpY by ModernXP The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild by Spazbo4 https://longplays.org/infusions/longplays/longplays.php?cat_id=78&longplay_id=7798 ♫Music: The Stanley Parable Thanks for walking that Sim. 0:00 Intro 2:12 What Are Walking Simulators? 3:35 The Two Pillars of Storytelling 5:01 Example #1: The Stanley Parable 6:00 Example #2: The Beginner's Guide 6:49 Example #3: What Remains of Edith Finch 7:40 Example #4: Gone Home 8:24 Example #5: Dear Esther 9:36 "Downtime" and Conclusion
