Noah

I remember stumbling upon this movie as a 16 year old when a movie magazine in Sweden listen death scenes. I don't remember if it were like best executed or best narratively, however the end when Danny calls Maddy one last time felt familiar (even though I had never watched this movie before) and it made me interested. I'm usually very picky when it comes to films that are truly great, but this one ticks so many boxes for me. Action, music, picture, acting, characters and it has a great story that's valuable and has great themes. I really think that it goes under the radar for both internet discourse and content creatirs. The director Edward Zwick has a habit of directing historical war dramas like "The Last Samurai", "Defiance" and "Legends of The Fall". Leo's great and I love the rhodesian accent he adopts but Djimon Honsou delivers an equally great performance and got Oscar nominated aswell. It baffles me that an actor who has starred in Gladiator, Fast & Furious, How to Train Your Dragon and both Marvel and DC, came out a few months ago and said that he still struggles to make a living. Also the place you thought was Australia was actually South Africa. In some versions with subtitles, you'll see that it says Cape Town when you see the helicopter view of the City after the plane lands.

Such a classic. I watched this as a teen and as a naive privileged kid, I thought it was exaggerated till I got into the research. It was like an obsession for weeks afterward and when I got married later in life we agreed to get synthetics in her ring. My wife was onboard immediately and she ALSO cited this movie as an impact on her feelings about gemstones. That is art at its finest if you ask me. Especially since even if it wasn't bringing attention to a real issue, the story stands on its own as fantastic.
