as much as i cannot stand gull, she is so, SO well written for character that has extremist religious views. like yeah this is about cats worshipping a crab but people behave like this in real life.. turning on your children/grandchildren/ect because they go against your religious views… it makes gull all the more terrible and frustrating to read, because this behavior is SO REAL

Looks like I was right. Even her own granddaughter isn't safe from Gull's bigotry. And there's not even a hint of regret on her face either. Also, that line "For those who deserve it I do" is so good and so true of religious zealots! They give all the compassion in the world to those few who "earn" it, as if compassion and basic empathy are things a person only deserves if they meet certain criteria. They are oh so loving and kind and righteous up until someone makes one mistake or strays or is hurt. Then, all of a sudden, the person is a traitor or a burden or a "bad influence" on others and needs to be driven away for the "good of all." I hope this drives home to Molly that anyone with a brain and a shred of decency will never have a true place in the Family. It's time for her to be there for her best friend. If nothing else, Hake can hopefully take comfort in being able to visit Ray's body by the willow tree.

When you realize members of your own family hold some very shitty views. Compassion is conditional. I'd be shocked if Mollymawk didn't go to Hake. I suspect a few more members of The Family that like Hake, feel compassion for him, or think what happened was horrible *might* leave as well. Especially if someone like Gull can just whip up a mob and Trout will just agree to it so that she remains safe.
