Also, I hate to be like this, but there's a minor typo - 'rational' is grammatically incorrect in this instance. Either 'rationale' (i.e. acting with proper support for her decisions) or 'rationality' (i.e. being rational) would fit.

I’ve had my thoughts for a while that Egret deliberately sabotaged the faked assassination and this exchange basically confirms it. It’s why I’ve always struggled to truly blame Sturgeon for Trout’s current state; she never intended for this to happen, and she probably did plan everything down so Trout wouldn’t get hurt as badly as she did, she just didn’t account for Egret to betray her trust.
