It’s really interesting seeing trout and hake’s interactions with petrel and their overall attitudes towards daisys during the thresher chapters. Obviously in the present, hake supports the daisys and trout doesn’t and those are very important aspects of their characters, but it’s something that through these flashbacks, we see has always been the case. Trout has lowkey always held prejudice towards the daisys (just look at the scene where t and h meet petrel for the first time; trout comments on how they smell bad, while hake says it’s not bad, they just smell like flowers.) I bet if hake was hunting, the first thing trout would’ve asked would’ve been “is dad okay” not “is petrel okay.” Hopefully this makes sense, my point is that the writing is fantastic as always and I appreciate how these attitudes are expanded on in the past and serve as preludes and context to how they both turn out as adults
