Loving the parallel between Hake and Thresher's fangs being emphasized here. Both are fighters, but Hake chooses to use his ability to protect instead of terrorize.

absolutely! I don't think thresher would even tolerate this from sturgeon in front of other cats like this. But hake (and trout) being minke's kittens does make him a bit more tolerant to them... This is also the other edge of Sturgeon sheltering them from thresher's extreme evil. Hake does not fear thresher either, and that gives him this audacity to speak his mind to him in a moment like this... hope it works out for him...

I do think he has a leg up going with the whole "Why are you risking your life so much for no reason? Don't you want to live?" route instead of showing he only cares for the daisies (which right now I think he obviously has compassion for them but he hasn't made the full split like we see in current times.)

Im gonna guess this is one of the reasons Thresher chose Trout as his successor. Sturgeon hates him and knows truths about the cult, Hake has compassion for Daisies, but Trout so far has only shown loyalty to her dad and believes what he's telling her. She's the one who's most likely to carry on leading the cult in his eyes.
