Yes, Maverick is very decorated but he tends to follow the beat of his own drum. When Ed Harris's character was talking to him after the crash, he made an emphasis on calling him Captain, someone of Maverick's legend and stature should've made at least Colonel by now.

Iceman "Val" had throat cancer and lost the ability to speak. They used old tapes of Val for the speaking parts. They used a Diddy amount of baby oil, is my guess. So Penny "Jennifer" was the Admiral's daughter they briefly mentioned in the first movie.

Hello Klaire something to note for future movies is that if you watch movies that has sequals can you watch it soon without too much time between those 2 movies because i feel like you forget what happened in the last movie and you're always questioning yourself. I felt this way when you watched Batman dark knight rises i though you forgot some things that happened in the dark knight. This is all up to you though as its your channel and your choice what you watch.

usually i like when theres a death in movies when the stakess are so high to add more emotional weight, but in this it felt different i dont think it needed it and maybe because we spend so much of the movie expecting someone to die, but it really felt like everyone making it back was actually earned

also love phoenix in this, its not made to be some huge deal or ego check on the other guys that she can keep up with mav the best, shes just a really great pilot and thats all there is to it, humble excellence

Bringing up the text is corny...Val had throat cancer....so it was a creative way for the two to interact before the on screen appearance.... Also....the 18 yr old pilots next door was top of their class at Top Gun and the best pilots in the world.... Cant wait to get through the whole movie with you....hilarious

The younger pilots were not 18 years old and untrained. They are all Top Gun graduates. They are the best of the best of active duty pilots. Maverick starts out as a test pilot in the beginning of this movie. That's how he's been able to stay in the Navy for so long, and is still flying. That's why he doesn't want a promotion , because he'd have to give up flying for a desk job. He doesn't care about rank. He just wants to fly!

All of the actors playing pilots that were flying during the movie are actually the actors in the jets! Tom didn't want to do this sequel unless they could shoot it from the jets. He designed a seven camera system to fit in the jets that wouldn't interfere with any function of the plane. The actors had to go through six months of training, and a US Navy Water Emergency Test that they had to pass in order to even step foot in the jets. All of those G-Force faces were 100% real! All of the actors had to operate their own cameras, direct themselves, and fix their own makeup after they puked. Yes, they all puked during every flight. Except for Monica Barbaro, who plays Phoenix! She never got sick... because she's a BADASS!
