in "about you", which is said to be about taylor, matty sings that they got married in their their heads, so i'm getting matty vibes here. a question about the "golden retriever" line: english is not my first language, but could "tattooed" just mean having a registration number tattooed on your ear or something, as dogs often have? that way, the line would be less literal. also, it would give the impression that taylor is the dog's owner/that the person in the song is kind of "tamed" or domesticated. not sure if that makes any sense? i just love this song. it gives classic 80s movie everybody has seen a million times or something like that. i'm obsessed!

Yesss the vibes of this song are immaculate. I hadn't thought of that in terms of a dog. In the US that's a bit less common, but they do get a line or dot tattooed on them to show they've been fixed. Or maybe tattooed is just referencing a sense of permenance "like a tattooed kiss".

Down Bad truther 🖖 BEST/WEIRDEST song I’ve ever heard. I NEED IT. But Daddy I love Him was my dark horse Matty of it all…..GIRL. I knew it. 🥲 I’ve listened to it more times than I can count at this point, and I’ve broken down (happy/sad/relief tears) every time she goes off at the climax. They said Speak Up now, she said I’m having his baby 🤫 I know we haven’t officially gotten to this point, but I have a note on So High School. So I’m exactly 2 years apart in age from Taylor (also born in Dec), and so we would have been in high school at the same time. Let me tell you, the references are heavy. She literally captured what it felt like to be in high school when we were that age, even down to the music. She references American Pie in the song, and it makes sense. This song could have been on that soundtrack, or any teen rom com at the time; but even before I heard that lyric, my initial impression was ‘oh, this would have been on the Varsity Blues soundtrack.’ I can’t tell you the joyous nostalgia this song brings me.

I just need a safe place to process But Daddy I Love Him. As someone that was raised extremely Christian, got married and divorced young, then re-married the complete and total opposite of what anybody expected (10 years going strong)…I just feel so seen by this song. I literally do not care about the MH angle. This is Love Story grown up and I’m here for it. It’s so layered and nuanced, and I think something so many can relate to.

I agree with most of these interpretations 100,but to me it feels like she really put Joe mostly to rest on the last two or three albums, and this is a cathartic remark on a renaissance of a life. Golden retrievers are like the typical "perfect" dog- super friendly, good with kids, not super loud barkers, etc. I think Taylor is contrasting his appearance (tattoed) with what she seems to think his nature is (sweet, loyal, friendly- like a golden retriever) I am not saying that Matty is those things, but he may act that way around Taylor?

Oh and the end of Clara Bow which clearly referenced Olivia, reminded me of the ending of Lacy by the latter. It felt hopeful, like Taylor was admitting why Olivia bothers her, and complementing her that her future is bright. When Taylor had written imgonnagethimback (I’m sure she wrote hers first) and heard get him back! By Olivia that must’ve been endearing to her in some way. I’m hoping for a reconciliation

Zach what an album and what a reaction. Clara Bow was my pick, loved the ending as it ended “you look like Taylor Swift, you have an edge she never did” … hello? And, I also love the line I think from who’s afraid of little old me (I could be wrong) about they say I’ll sue you if you walk on my lawn, because I’m evil and a beast. Hello? And, I loved how she called out the critics and fair-weather fans and basically said “it’s my life, my choices, and stay out of my personal life”.

So for Clara Bow, did anyone else feel this way. I felt that Taylor was saying fame is horrible, and when she tells Olivia or whoever at the end that the future is dazzling, she is saying it sarcastically, like they will tell you the future is great you’re so much like X famous past legend, but Taylor is saying, yeah, it’s not true, it’s hell on Earth. Kind of warning the new stars.

my instant reaction to this album is overwhelmingly positive. songs such as but daddy i love him and who's afraid of little old me are so well written and executed. the smallest man who ever lived is the most concerned i have been for her in terms of mental health. but will the contents of the songs stand the test of time? most of it does not stand on its own and is only understandable for someone who follows her life. which - unlike what we on here think- not everybody does. without the context of her life a song such as who's afraid of little old me is just not understandable. so i'm a bit worried about that. and on the other hand i think that context-free taylor is dead. there cannot be a context-free taylor because of her stardom and the things happening to hear because of it. this is kind of scary, i think. maybe i'm being overdramatic right now and i have not sat with ttpd for long enough, but it feels like taylor is truly "trapped" in her stardom.

I find is so bizarre that this happened. Sometimes I notice Taylor being inspired by others a little too closely. Her poem during the eras tour is a shade of what LDR has in the beginning and end of her Ride music video. Also her karma music video with ice spice has similar theme and aesthetic to Doja’s music video for kiss me more. I feel like Taylor’s other content is so original, she doesn’t need those mimics. Throw it out.

I just relistened to Zack's Matty recap Zack recently posted and WOW-- I cannot wait for Zack and Madeline to dive into TTPD-- and Madeline's Lizard Review of the album is absolutely mind blowing too. Madeline really nails it when she discusses that Matty is a really good writer, a bad boy, an artist, a musician and many women are passionately attracted to very edgy men (especially another artist ) ...because it is triggering and unleashes parts of ourselves that maybe we rarely feel.... can't wait for more analyses by the snakes!!!!

One more question for you snakes to think about. I really think most of this part 1 is about matty, even the opening track. Even, imo, loml. Momentary (her relationship with Joe was not momentary), go from one kiss to getting married (it took joe 6 yrs), what’s going to stop us from waltzing into old flames (Matty is an old flame), make-love quick schemes (took Joe 6 yrs), loml a million times (Matty love-bombed her). Anyway, imo most of these songs are about Matty, do you think the best way to diss the turkey is to make him think you are writing an entire breakup album about the 6yr relationship but really the turkey got next to nothing, and its all about how heartbroken she is about Matty instead?? lol. I think thats a bigger insult than any tea she could have written about the turkey.
