In this episode of Evolution of a Snake, Taylor Swift's Stadium Show, The Eras Tour Tour is thoroughly dissected, appreciated, and critiqued. Zack & Madeline try their best to decipher the mental machinations of the HSIC (Head Snake In Charge) to discover why she chose certain songs and not others. It's a tremendous tour de force that really turns the idea of a 'touring artist' on its head: just how big can a show be? How much stamina, prowess, and power can one pop star have? The Snakes delve into all this and more.

What was the likely-false theory about why she’s not doing debut and Speak Now 👁️👁️

Cardigan

I really wanted to see YOYOK but parts of that song are really sad and I don't know if she would feel comfortable doing it every night. Like I can't imagine her wanting to sing " I starved my body" regularly

Witch

I wish it wasn’t loaded with Spotify this time

Ollie

It struck me when I was about to listen to this that maybe Midnights lacks crazy adlibs and any vocal acrobatics bc she knew she was going to be adding it to the end of a 3hr set… maybe I’m overthinking it but she is a planner

courtney

absolutely agree with you both as the clear omissions from the setlist while also acknowledging and being grateful for the insane 44 song setlist we have received! Interesting to hear what you would swap out and I really do think there's something there about the eras being done in sections is both a serve (see: reputation) but also limiting in the sense we don't get any mashups. One of my hopes was that she would really pull in some themes from across eras and have almost a dialogue between different songs and eras? Anyway, as a UK swiftie I'm hoping that if international dates ever drop that I will stand a chance of hearing a Speak Now song as one of my surprise songs. At least I can sleep peacefully knowing she HAS to do London Boy and we can learn once and for all that it simply does not have to be Louis V up on Bond Street 😌

Great episode!! Loved watching both of your reactions! Definitely grateful and excited for a 44-song/3:15 set but I would’ve loved Teardrops/Our Song and Sparks Fly in the permanent set list…I’m glad we don’t have a ton of mash-ups but I’d take a few if it meant there was time for 2 songs from debut and Speak Now each night. My show is in June and I have similar concerns to Madeline about potential cuts down the line… She must be in amazing shape to be able to do this…me over here getting winded going up the stairs and she’s out there serving for 3+ hours 🥲

omg what a fast turnaround - you guys are incredible! the workday will fly by while i listen to this

bloop

What a fast turnaround, love you guys! I do think she’ll end up relying a lot more on lip syncing/backing tracks as the tour goes on, I just don’t think it’s feasible for her voice to stay healthy if she’s doing the full 3 hours every time, especially once she gets into April and there’s 3 show weekend runs consecutively for weeks. One thing I wonder about is if she’ll bring any surprise guests on further down the line? Maybe one of the surprise songs will be swapped to make room for that? But the tour set-up as is doesn’t really offer much room to have that as an option I feel.

Waiting for the vid, but I just want to say I'm very thankful she didn't do ME! or Epiphany

the briefness of opener MAATHP is strategic if you will. Taylor conceptualised that she had to allow us time to collect ourselves and mentally physically emtionally recover from seeing her. Then SPIRITUALLY prepare for Cruel Summer. Declaring 'we have reached the first bridge of the evening ladies and gentlemen' is unique. Indicative of the supremacy of CS perhaps 🧐 The HSIC knows we've waited 4 years and her delivery of 'let's cross it together; are you ready?; 'GO' speaks to the most primal devout stan swiftie in us all. A moment of worship at the alter; an ascension!!!! Those bombastic frantic drums that kick in at the end of the bridge and the swell is probably the best god damn thing I've ever heard.. this is a religious experience via my airpods and a spotty YouTube video. I don't know how else to equate what I witnessed and heard 🤌🤌🤌

I read “posted 5 hours ago” as “5 hour episode” lmao

I'm just going to say, given the fact the Madeline has the WORST luck with secret songs and songs getting cut in general, it terrifies me that I am going to the same show as her in Seattle. Girl, don't ruin this for us. With love.

Sar Sar

Seattle in July is perfect weather, so don’t worry! Also idk if this will be the same at every stadium, but at Glendale the roof was closed so weather wasn’t a factor

Alexa Blackman

I was at both Arizona nights and have a million videos that I can send if there are any songs you haven’t seen! Also have the in betweens

ruxandra

I'm so incredibly disappointed that I live in Romania and don't have enough money to get a ticket & travel and so I won't get to see the concert. It's just so astonishing, nothing like this has EVER been done before and it's just a once in a lifetime opportunity...

Donna Aldrich

I'm having a shit day and this made it a bit better, thanks for the great content and laughs 💕

Really really hope she switches at least a few songs every city so we can get more variety. I personally think it's super possible, Taylor and her band are incredibly talented-- most of her band has been playing with her for 10+ years at this point plus have helped in the rerecordings and Taylor has noted they learn new songs in as little as a few hours so considering how well versed they are with her catalogue I think it's very very possible. Not to mention this tour clearly has a BUDGET, altering a few things with the set and the versatility of the screen/stage can help create a new vibe. Maybe the songs we've seen with minimal props/production could be subject to change? With all that in mind it's up to whether or not Taylor decides to do this :')))))) praying she's listening to feedback and will interchange some songs ??? Plus that will add elements of surprise to every other city so fans can have that still in their shows (ie Taylor's whole reasoning for including so many guests during 1989 was bc she knew most attendees would already know what to expect and she wanted to keep surprising). At least changes some in lover/midnights/folklore/evermore and maybe even cuts around to include more for fearless and speak now 😩 I NEED Mr. perfectly fine live in full production

Michaela Wagner

I mean… remember when she cut stay stay stay because they were “going to bed too late” And it was like… 18 songs lol

Little Kevin

I live in Portland and the last few summers have had insane heatwaves in July so I am emotionally preparing for it to be 100 degrees that weekend hahaha

Emily Sanders

Ight, I'm redoing the setlist because sorry Taylor this is the ERAS tour not the Midfolklovermore tour... With 44 songs that means each era gets about 4, but I'm only giving Debut 3 for the purpose of it really only needs 3 and I'll give that extra one to Midnights since it's the newest album. I'll give the extra 4 to the 4 newest albums and add a 45th for a surprise song that changes every night. So...in no particular order....Debut: Our Song, Tim McGraw, Teardrops on my Guitar... Fearless: Love Story, You Belong with Me, Fearless, Mr. Perfectly Fine....SPEAK NOW: Enchanted, Sparks Fly, Story of Us, Mine...Red: Holy Ground, WANEGBT, IKYWT, All Too Well 10...1989: Style, Shake it Off, Blank Space, Bad Blood...Reputation songs stay the same they truly are perfect...Lover: I'm counting Cruel Summer and MAATHP as one because she doesn't perform the full length of Miss Americana and Cruel Summer is a shorter song in general, Lover, The Man, Paper Rings, Cornelia Street...folklore: cardigan, betty, august, my tears ricochet, invisible string...evermore: willow, champagne problems, ivy, rwylm, long story short...Midinights: Lavender Haze, Anti Hero, Bejewled, Midnight Rain, YOYOK, and end with Karma😊
