A little thought experiment ... what would you pick as a visual depiction, a really iconic image, from each era? Taylor's face is excluded obviously lol. For example: Fearless I would pick the sparkle guitar. Reputation, snake duh. Red probably a maple leaf or a scarf. What would you pick?! – Zack

Ok so this isn’t to do with previous eras BUT I have had a realisation about a possible hint to the theme of the NEXT era I would like to present to the jury of the Taylor nation. I’ve noticed in her recent outfits there has been a gold chain element (see exhibit A and B submitted into evidence, the dress for her squad outing and bag for butterfly outfit. And this is going back a little so may not be admissible, but Toronto film festival dress?) and I got to thinking … this would definitely fit for an album regarding tea about the wax man. It fits with her previous song writing (gold cage hostage to be feelings, joes love was golden) and fits with the idea of being trapped, even if it it’s within something precious / beautiful. Thoughts?

Speak Now, Red, 1989, and Rep are true eras because they had a distinct sound, a distinct style, and distinct aesthetics on their respective tours. Debut and fearless are the same era in my opinion, her style didn’t shift a whole lot from debut into fearless, not to mention debut didn’t have its own headlining tour and she performed most of the debut songs on the fearless tour pretty seamlessly. Folklore and evermore are the same era to me because they are literally sister albums according to Taylor herself and only came out 5 months apart. I would say folklore is more summer and evermore is more winter (thus green trees vs bare trees) but they are both trees nonetheless and two sides of the same coin. Lover got snubbed as an era due to COVID (I still think we’d have a totally different opinion of the album if lover fest was able to happen) and midnights as an “era” is getting overshadowed by the eras tour. I think she leans into calling them “eras” because the fans do, but I don’t necessarily view one album as one era.

I’ll contribute to the eras I experienced as a fan but also I’m gonna go the imagery route rather than specific symbol because it’s the only way my brain works 1989 the seagulls flying in clear blue sky is what I associate with it, it’s how the songs sound to me they all make me put me arms out and up like that. I combine reputation and lover when I listen to them, so I get a very different symbol from them together than they are separately, so I honestly just newsprint and dripping candy skies, for some reason cat eyes. Honestly the tour opener aesthetic is how I see lover and rep, especially because I take out a lot of the childish parts of lover Folklore I associate with just old photographs no idea where I got it from the music doesn’t really sound vintage and she doesn’t really use that motif but It just reminds me of like 1940-50s photographs of strangers. Evermore Same as folklore but with a that sort of amber tinge some old photographs have. Also old stationary and binoculars Midnights A bed floating in a purple sea with a starry sky. This is the image that resonates the most with me when I listen . Now for the ones I didn’t experience first hand Red is only words for me it’s happy free confused and lonely at the same time, that’s it besides the Obvious autumn to winter backdrop.
