I've seen A LOT of people talking about how they feel like, and have felt, that the Eras Tour has a type of finality to it. Some people think that doing a career spanning retrospective type of tour means that she is getting ready to pack it up, and some people think she is gearing up to say goodbye to her music career and focus on other things like film. She is fast approaching billionaire status first of all, so the world is becoming her oyster. This is also the biggest she has ever been which feels SO INSANE TO SAYYY because back in 1989 I thought it couldn't get anymore insane - but like Rolling Stone said, we are in TAYLORMANIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thinking about it like this, it's definitely easy to see how some people think there's a final nail in the coffin vibe to Eras.

I have also seen some people talking about the massive gap between the end of the American leg and the beginning of the Europe tour, but in my opinion, this has more to do with her wanting to tour stadiums in Summer and also getting a break in between legs. A lot of people seem to think "something is coming" in between the tours, and like it could be, but it seems odd to me she'd slop together another album because she'd no doubt have to add it to the Eras setlist which is already fucking bananas. I think we'll rep Rep, 1989, and debut TV at most during her break, and that's more than enough for me!!!

As for what the Eras Tour actually MEANS in the big picture of her career....it's hard to say, since it's still happening. I've always felt like the re-recordings played a huge part in her decision to do an Eras tour instead of a Midnights tour, because she is in the process of going through her back catalogue and was inspired to create a massive show out of her years of work. I don't know if she necessarily thought of how it would be perceived as a kiss-off of some sort. It's hard to imagine having this successful of a tour and then just bowing clean out. A break, I can imagine.

But that said, I am also feeling like she is in a place where she cannot physically stop herself from making music. She literally couldn't help herself from releasing another version of Midnights with You're Losing Me on it, for example. I think this is a time where she is likely writing a lot of new music and I think there will be a TS11, perhaps not next year, but maybe after the European tour is over, sometime in the fall of 2024. I really don't think it's wishful thinking.

What do you guys think about the Eras Tour being a last hurrah OR just a nod to her past career before she launches into a new phase of her career?!?!

I think the original plan may have been to take a break after Eras back when she was still with Joe, depending on their plans. Given the last few albums were either fictional or based on her past, I wonder what she could have written about next if she was still with Joe. Now that they're over she probably has much more inspiration for songs either about the breakup or future relationships or more self reflection. So I don't think she'll take too much of a step back now even if the original plan after Eras may have been different. Also no way we're not getting 13 albums from her and I think she's going to want to get the AOTY grammy once more so she can have the record for the most. Wait. What if she does the entire soundtrack for her movie and that's the next album???? Literally just had that idea so maybe that wouldn't make sense but that would definitely be a new angle for her songwriting.

Renata Faustina

Both of these things can be true, there’s happiness. Lol.

Leslie

I think, like you said, the Eras tour is just what made sense at this juncture of her career. She had four new albums she hadn't toured yet, plus the re-recordings. I'm not really sure what else she could have done to tour all those projects at once which she clearly wanted to do. I also agree with you that she is physically incapable of not making music, and while she does want to explore other mediums like film etc., I can't see those ever being anything more than a fun detour from her primary focus which will always be music. I mean did we not just all see her going in and out of Electric Lady studios every day for like two weeks? She is not done making music lol. I highly suspect she's spent part of the last week at Long Pond with Aaron. I do think that the Eras tour could be a bookend to one *phase* of her career. I think going forward we might see her release music more sporadically, in less clearly-defined "eras." We might see her tour two or three albums at a time instead of just one, and take longer breaks between tours. We might see her start some kind of side project like Boygenius or Big Red Machine. The world literally is her oyster at the moment and I think she's at a point where she can be REALLY creative and experimental and release music in whatever format she wants whenever she wants. I do think we will get the rest of the re-recordings by the time the Eras tour ends next year. I wouldn't be surprised if 1989 TV comes out during the long break between legs.

She could definitely end it all now knowing that she is cemented as a musical icon. There are very, very, very few people that have gotten this kind of success, and would be more than happy to pack it up at the top of their game. But here’s the thing: she is a unique brand of celebrity. She still loves doing what she started doing (writing songs) and, unbelievably, she still loves being in the spotlight. She’s not a Selena Gomez who struggles with the pressures. She’s not an Adele who will take 6 years to release a project. For better or worse, she’s clenching relevancy with a clenched fist for as long as she can. Maybe a part of her thought this would be her last pop girl, big stadium moment while planning the eras tour…but now? Now in the post Ticketmaster-breaking, thousands tailgating outside her stadiums, longest-running #1 song of her career era? The train didn’t slow down, it sped up to a surprising degree. I don’t think she can/wants to jump off it now. She won’t follow the Rihanna route of barely touching music as she reaches a billion dollars. She’ll become someone like Dolly Parton or Paul McCartney, constantly creating well passed their chart topping days (hopefully she will be as generous in her fortune as the former). The question is: how long will her music dominate the world until the younger generations move on? Only time will tell that. The eras tour is undoubtedly a nod to and something inspired by re-recording her past to own it. It’s reignited her fan base, and that re-examined past has helped shape her future. I just look forward to seeing what’s next!

Alison Smith

I can't see her bowing put after all this. She loves it too much - the screaming crowds, the praise, etc. Definitely a break. Maybe focusing on a something else. And coming back. She definitely loves being as massive as she is, even if she also dislikes it at times as well. The world is her oyster, but also, what else would she do if not release music? It's a need.

Sabrina

I don't think she's taking a break at all. The reason Midnights exists and the tour is sort of "retrospective" is because we are in the re-recording era. It's hard to do these mini eras for past albums if she had a completely different full blown era happening right now. Hence why the Midnights era is largely just a retrospective era. The international dates lend themselves perfectly for a typical fall 2024 release date for TS11. I do agree however that Taylor is having a hard time NOT making music, I think she's writing new things all the time. It may all be saved for TS11 or we may get some sprinkles before then, who knows...all that being said the film directing thing still baffles me so this entire timeline could be wrong lmfao

Alex Paslawski

At my show in Deteoit, she said the Eras Tour essentially was because she had put so much new work out it was easier to label it as that, rather than a single album tour. So that leads me to believe it’s just an easy way to market all her new stuff she hadn’t toured with. I feel like we won’t have a massive tour from her for a little after this (rightfully so) but I have no doubt in my mind the music will keep coming. As for what you call the next tour, who knows! But I feel like we’ll have until like 2026-2027 until another tour comes. But this definitely isn’t the end. Girlie seems to love what she does. Hopefully by next time this wave of everybody and their mom wanting to be a swiftie dies down a bit… LOL

Eva Cornell

I was listening to the evermoreology episode of the pod and I was laughing because at the beginning you guys predicted that Taylor was going to enter a quiet period, get married to Joe and maybe have a child. Honestly who knows at this point where her career is headed, she'll never stop making music she can't help herself.

Eden McFadden

I think song writing is truly her greatest love and I think she will always be putting out music. I can see another new album next year, not this year.

Lizzy

My theory is she is directing her film in September/October 2023 between tour dates (it's her one gap). She is clearly trying out directing (sounds like her script has already written). But how could it be goodbye to music? It just doesn't make sense, she's so good at it and she loves it. The Eras tour is so long that I think her plan is for it to coincide with SNTV, 1989TV, and RepTV. She will cap it all off with TSTV. If we know Taylor at all, we know one thing: She is constantly WORKING. She does not stop working. I remember when she was less visible in 2022 and everyone thought she was taking a break and living her life. NO. She wrote a commencement speech, a film script and made an album and several music videos. Never underestimate blondie's generative abilities. All I can hope for is that she keeps taking risks musically.

Ty

If the tour was a goodbye, I feel like she would be fair and do as many major countries as she can. The fact that she’s skipping Canada and the Philippines and so many more makes me feel like maybe it’s not a goodbye. Maybe it’s just to get all the TVs out, she has the surprise song section to get as many songs from her catalog played as she possibly can, so that she can say it’s all played, and can start completely fresh. Granted it might be a year or two but i don’t think too too long

Mr. Watermelon

I think that what's most likely to happen is a long break from touring after the Eras Tour. I believe that in the night of the last show we'll have all rerecordings already done and released I'm thinking two this year (no shows in September) and two in next year (there's a possible one in April). After that i think TS11 will be delivered at the very end of 2024 or the very beginning of 2025 and she won't tour it until TS12 to do the tour for two albums. I think even if she'll start making film it won't stop her to make and release music in the same time. There's also one factor i forgot about which is planning a family which idk if she even wants to settle down right now when she's at her peak (which is really insane tbh). But I think even child won't stop her from making music. At the end of the day i think she's not retiring from music like never and she maybe do a break from touring. And i think Eras Tour is kind of saying goodbye to her last records. What mean is Midnights is like milestone that's like collection of her past work (kind of) so her newer projects could be about something new.

GW

I can see the Eras Tour being a never ending tour that constantly evolves and charges it’s set list. It has new songs from new albums added to it, cities revisited multiple times. All under the eras tour name/umbrella. It won’t stop and she won’t, it’ll just evolve. And ultimately, it’ll become the highest grossing tour ever.

LC

I was listening to a music critic podcast where they mentioned that the idea of an “Eras Tour” is technically nothing new for an act who has been around in this space as long as Taylor, she’s just smart enough and has distinctive enough “eras” to brand the tour this way. I don’t feel any sense of finality around the tour anymore then I would have with someone like Springsteen 17 years into his career.

lychee-martini

I do also sense a kind of finality / victory lap to the context but she also needed a concept for the tour that was accomodating of having so many un-toured albums + the rerecording. Still, she did say (in the Miss Americana documentary) that there was something unsustainable to the permanent reinvention (the era-ing, if you will) and if you look at Midnights, for example, in terms of its inexplicable visual identity in the 1970s -- it feels like a good example of her feeling like she had to 'create an era' when there may not have been a natural place for this in Midnights, the album. So is Eras more of a way to say "i'll continue but it won't be, like, "eras" like in the past where so much distinction was painted for each album?" I've also seen something in one motif that is there not once but twice in the staging of Eras, which is the burning of the Lover house. Now, i think the Lover house as a motif is actually retcon (we Swifties aggrandized it to become a symbol of the eras, and I'm not sure if it was quite that) but at this point, the Lover house has been adopted by Taylor as a symbol of her eras. And she burns it. Twice. That really feels like a symbol to convey something. So, between the fact that the requirement to create enormous distinction between albums feels very unsustainable, and this motif of burning the 'symbol' of her past Eras ... I don't know, i think yes it feels like The Eras Tour will be closing out something.

Sar Sar

Swifties as have a tendency to speculate about Taylor’s allegedly-looming retirement with an hunger that borders on pushing her out the door. She’s so, so young- there are plenty of successful artists that start their musical careers in their 30s. But because she’s been around for 17 years now, it’s like no one can imagine what to do with a woman who maintains this level of success for longer than Taylor already has. As we’ve seen over the last few months, her popularity is only growing! So is Eras a goodbye tour? I don’t think so. I think she’ll be making music and touring in some capacity for the rest of her life. I think she’ll take (well-deserved) breaks, but she’s said over and over that songwriting is her passion. The Eras tour is logistically the only way she could tour post-Covid, when we had 4 albums of material to catch up on. And she gets the bragging rights of doing a greatest hits tour at 33. Who else can say that?

Jordyn

I think she’s made it very clear how much she loves writing and performing her music so I do not think she’s packing it up any time soon. I think it’s possible she’ll be releasing a new album end of 2024, cause I think she will have so much material for it already. I expect 1988 release next year but I don’t think Rep or debut will come out before 2025

Anna Elizabeth Laube

Naw she's just being a boss and owning and cementing her icon status by having an eras tour at age 33. Like, look at me, I'm only 33 and I have ERAS bitches. At this point she and Jack are unstoppable, she will continue to do albums, like I'm sure Willie Nelson is a hero, he has 100 albums not even kidding. I hope she'll keep doing different genres. I'd like another country album, actually Willie style could be very cool.

BonXID

I don't think she's able to stop writing music... it comes to her automatically. But I think she also likes to stretch and do new things, and she's been directing all of her recent videos plus the screenplay she plans to direct. So that's what I see as her next venture. I could see her creating a Broadway musical and directing or co-directing it. It could be a whole new story with original music, and she might even create a small cameo role for herself. But no matter what else she does, I think we'll still get new albums. One time she was on Graham Norton at the same time as Neil Diamond and when Neil said he had 32 studio albums you could see her make a mental note about that. I can't see her stopping without passing that milestone.

Luna Wolf

I'm hoping this is and end of an end of a new beginning. I really don't think she'll stop making music at all. And this type is for the fans that supported her through the tough times and the success of the re-records. I do think she deserves a break and would love that for her but I don't think that's her plan. But I look forward to the new things she has planned in the future for us all.

tyler

i think even if it was meant as a kiss off, (which i don’t believe but let’s just say for arguments sake) she’s in such flux in her life right now & in the midst of big change & she literally writes to cope with that so she is 100% recording new music & she 100% wants us to have it. so there might be a little break but i don’t get the feeling it will be a substantial one.

Ty

If the long setlist with surprise songs is a way to make sure every song in her catalog gets performed at least once, so she can take a break from touring for a few albums and then when she tours again, only play songs from TS11, TS12 and TS13, im kinda down for that

Rachel Lieberman

I got a feeling that she might not do a big stadium tour for a while, not because she's going to quit music but because they're not sustainable for the lifestyle it seems she wants to have in her 30's. I see tons more music coming and yes - a new album in 2024!

KiwiKat

I feel like it maybe was the thought while she was still with Alwyn, that it might have been a compromise the two of them had should she go back on tour and if they wanted marriage or children, that she’d have one last hurrah. Total speculation of course. But I think that changed after the breakup and she realized she loved this more than that relationship and it was simply too much a sacrifice to make. All I can say for myself is, as someone her age, I simply cannot fathom the amount of stamina this takes and we may not see a tour to this size again.

Swiftlennial

Eras Tour is definitely the end of an era. As strategic as Taylor is, she is also an opportunist and will pivot as world events and personal needs arise. Going through the re-recording process and her long-term relationship coming to an end gave us Midnights. I get more the feeling that she is ready to shed the old skin and free herself up to evolve into her next creative expression, musically and otherwise. If anything, Eras Tour seems like a superstar legacy cementing endeavor before she is like, “Okay, I have something new to say and do now that everyone has been thoroughly fed.” And I👏AM👏HERE👏FOR👏IT!

Hila’s safe space

I feel she will not stop until she has 13 albums out. I don’t think she will ever let that go that probably something she wants.

lyrium

im not insane enough to presume what's going on in the girlie's head. she's beyond my comprehension skills. i doubt we're seeing another tour for at least 5 years from now tho

Elizabeth

On the Broken Record podcast, Aaron Dessner said he could not confirm or DENY if he was making more music with Taylor 👀👀👀. I don’t think she knows how to stop making music right now. What other artist has the opportunity to have a career retrospective concert at 32?! I can’t name one. It was too good of an opportunity to pass up. I can’t imagine her stopping now.

Iman

I think she can’t stop making music so I don’t think this is a last hurrah. Plus I think she loves being on top of the world and won’t give that up when it can continue. Plus I believe that TS11 is already in the works Bc of all those studio trips a few weeks ago. As for drops during breaks between tour legs- idk. ESP if it’s true that SNTV was supposed to come out in Sept, I don’t think we’ll get another re-record this year. But I can see any/all(?) of the remaining re-records dropping before the end of the tour. I don’t think we’ll still be waiting for them once all international dates are done. BUT that means maybe not giving each era the same treatment time wise

Lauren Eileen ✨🥀

I definitely don’t think she’s going to stop making music. I could maybe see that argument when she was still with Joe, maybe to have time off to get married and have kids, but now that it’s Joever, I think she is going to throw herself into her work even more so than before. I think the length of the international tour is indicative to that. I mean the girl is GOING for another year doing this massive tour, that is insane to me. I just have a strong feeling she’s only getting started. I feel like she is going to be like Stevie Nicks and make music and tour until the day she dies tbh!! I really see that as her legacy.

Michaela Wagner

I think it’s just a nod! Literally everyone was like “how’s she going to fit it ALL in on a midnights tour???” Hell, we were all saying this when evermore came out I think it’s just bc people are so used to greatest hits tours being done by people who’s careers are essentially over, whereas Taylor is just lucky enough to have people so excited about her back catalogue AND new catalogue at this stage, it’s soooo impressive - not many artists get both!

Jill Marks

This might also be a way to own more of her older music. With Eras she has recordings of material that previously only belonged to Skippy and then the people he sold them to. Now she will have footage that she can use for future productions without ramifications. I’m sure she also realizes that it will drive sales of her re-recordings TV. I have been in awe of her business acumen since “1989.” Total visionary.

girl4433

Blondie was dressing like Princess Diana today! What is going on?

Maja Gunhold

I definitely think she's working on ts11 currently because so much personal stuff has been going on for her that how can she NOT be working and writing. Its strikes me as a slight return to form in that it will be developed over a longer time. I just feel that way because I don't think it would be released until after the eras tour. Also probably after the re recordings but idk. She might do doing a 2 re recordings to 1 album cycle similar to fearless/red/midnight's. Who knows. Im not a karma truther but I'm praying for a orange pop rock album about new found freedom or something idk lol 😂

Ksenia

People saying the Eras tour is some kind of kiss-off don't understand Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift loves being number one, she loves topping the charts, she loves making as much money as possible, she loves being popular, she loves breaking records, she loves winning awards. There is no way Taylor is going to stop, she's just at the beginning of this new phase as an untouchable, uncancelable, supernova popstar. She wants more Album of the Year grammys, she wants an Oscar, she wants an EGOT, she wants a Taylorland like Dollyland, she maybe wants her own version of Tidal as part of her 'artists rights' legacy. Taylor is not slowing down for another 10 years.

Charlotte

I see the Eras Tour as a nod to her past career ; she's not stopping anytime soon and I also think that the Eras Tour was a way for her to also tour for the albums that did not get their time in the spotlight due to the pandemic. But she can't stop won't stop cruising !

Beca Stockman

I think it’s just the most sensible thing to do when a). She has four albums she hasn’t toured, b). People would want to hear past hits anyway and c). She’s actively promoting old albums via her re-recordings. I could see her taking a short break after this tour because it seems exhausting… but I don’t think she’s going anywhere. Especially with how goddamn PLEASED she looks every night on stage!!

8BitBridge

Why would she be stopping in her prime? To act? Please no haha

lavendersnake

Even if it was an ending, I feel like she is remembering how much she loves performing so I can’t see it stopping. If anything I feel like she would do something like loverfest was planned to be with only a couple locations before she would stop altogether

ashton

I don’t think it’s a goodbye at all. Like she can’t stop creating. I think it’s more that 1. She had four albums she hadn’t toured (her owned albums too) 2. The re-recordings are causing her to reflect on her own career a lot and have a lot of people interested in her entire catalogue as an entire experience 3. People have been foaming at the mouth for this multiversal, time travel, multiple Taylor’s at once thing for a long time. Ever since LWYMMD and the Lover House. The concept that they’re each a separate entity with their own themes, iconography, colors, etc. is extremely compelling and lends itself to a show like the Eras Tour. We know how she’s capitalized on the Easter eggs. I think it’s like that. Mostly a marketing scheme.

Nicole M

i don’t think it’s a goodbye at all. i think she wanted to tour the four albums that haven’t been played live, and amidst the re-recordings it just makes sense to tour all of her music at once. i can see her scaling back on tours after this (aka not performing three hours every night for an 18 month long tour). i think she’ll probably go back to what she did before the pandemic - releasing new music, hopefully touring those albums (on a smaller scale), and working on other projects. however, i do think she is pulling out all the stops on this tour because it’s probably the last tour where she intends to play all her hits on a massive scale (unless she does another greatest hits tour somewhere down the line). i also think she wanted to do a tour this grand in her early thirties because touring is exhausting. taylor is not old by any means but performing the eras tour for 18 months is much easier on 33 year old taylor than it would be on 43 or 53 year old taylor lol

A Mortensen

it's not "good bye" it's "im BAACKK BITCHES!!! try and get rid of me!!!!"

Zoe K

i know it can’t be a kiss off because long live isn’t on the setlist

Lexi

i would be absolutely SHONKED if she didn’t release new music with a year lol

Vrishti Hasija

When she was still with Joe I genuinely thought it was a means to hiatus from touring for a long time because she made us believe she wanted to hide in the basement forever but now that we know she was kept there kidnapped instead of willingly, my whole perspective on tour, genre of future albums, other projects has shifted 180 degrees

KC Hoppe

I think she wanted to figure out a way to do a concert to feature Lover, Folklore, Evermore and Midnights since she didn’t get to tour for any of those releases. The Eras concept was clever. We’ll get new music! And future tours. She loves the fandom and performing. And songs just pour out of her. She can’t help herself.

Lana

I still think the concept of eras was the easiest way to have a cohesive tour for Lover, Folklore, Evermore, and Midnights without it being super chaotic. I don't think this is a settling down. If anything we know Taylor loves being at the top of her game. I think she'll keep making music for us as long as she has fans. Maybe she won't do more stadium tours, but I think she loves sharing her music and giving back to fans

Cristina

She said the more music she makes the happier she is. I agree was just a way to include loverfolkmorenights and also to spruce up the tailors versions. Would actually really love another deep dive tour on a concept album. But I think the eras tour also resets her to be able to do something completely different next time - because she's done all the old albums and singles on this tour. Next one could be something completely different.

Siobhan

I think she was convinced for a long time that her success would start to fade as she got older, so she was preparing for it, especially after her cancellation. She had Joe and she was thinking I’ll just settle down and stop being a pop star. But now it’s becoming more and more clear that’s not the case I think she’s going to keep going, like a mirrorball, for as long as she possibly can.

Mad Esme at the Plaza Athénée

I agree with all of the commenters saying there was a shift in priorities after her recent success. Just look at the plan for Loverfest. A relatively few smaller venue shows, I think only like 4 shows in the US, a smaller tour than Rep, and Rep was only 52 shows worldwide. Around Lover era she was definitely in slowing-down mode, finding a way to balance the normal, quiet life she was creating with Joe while still giving back to the fans in lower-key ways. The combination of quarantine and losing her masters leading to re-recording fanned the flames of creativity within her, which led to skyrocketing success. It was at this moment that she realized she had another shot, another opportunity to be the #1 pop girlie in the world, and Joe's balking was not going to stop her. I wouldn't be surprised if she framed it as a last hurrah of an epic-sized tour to capitalize on her success and bask in the public adoration after 5 years in relative hiding, and then they could have their quiet life on a scale of Lover era. Apparently Joe wasn't willing to wait a year and half for her to jet around the world doing her mirrorball impression, and she realized that if he couldn't accept that side of her, he didn't truly know her as she thought he did. Now that she has no quiet life with her muse to aspire to, I don't know what the future entails, and she may not either. I still think this may be her last tour of this scale, at least for a long time, just because it's not physically or logistically sustainable, and honestly, neither is her current level of success. I just hope she can gracefully coast down like a feather and not in an explosive castle crumbling scenario.
