I've seen multiple people comment that they feel many of the "fans" who snatch up tickets are only going to the eras tour because they're chasing the clout of saying that they went. A popular opinion seems to be that these people are barely fans, and they're taking tickets out of the hands of real fans who perhaps deserve to be there more. It's hard to ignore the way that the Eras Tour has taken over so much of social media; like when I was on Amazon and just searched "eras tour" and found dozens upon dozens upon DOZENSS of things that were CUSTOM MADE just for the purpose of being worn to the eras tour. Temporary tattoos, necklaces, skirts, shirts, custom glitter, on and on. Or how many people are in Tik Tok lives during surprise song o'clock, or how often targeted ads come up that are clearly advertising you something to wear to the eras tour.

I don't think every single person who goes to eras is a die hard fan, but a lot of the times the people I see saying that "clout chasers are going to eras and stealing tickets" are the fans who have been to like 10 eras tour dates. And it's like okay who's really stealing tickets from others? LMFAO!!! I don't necessarily believe that it's 100% clout chasing, although it is clearly a point of pride for people to get to say that they went to the tour, but something that really made me think something different is afoot is the sheer number of MOVIE TICKET sales that she's sold.

Going to the movies is not the same as going to the tour, and everyone knows that. Taylor will not be there. It is not live. It's a recording of the same thing, a lot better than watching on Tik Tok live because of the production value, but relatively the same experience as sitting at home watching it on a stream. It's baffling to me that THIS MANY PEOPLE are bending over backwards to go see the eras tour movie, some of them multiple times, and coming from someone who really almost didn't want to go see it because the experience of it sounds a bit lame, it's hard for me to imagine that this many people are CLOUT CHASING...at the movies????

As for why the eras tour is as huge as it is.......post-covid world is number one. Live music was gone for a good long while, and frankly, anyone who's touring right now is getting their shows completely sold out (even Gracie facking Abrams...lmfao...) because of the desire people have to go see live shows.

Number two is the nostalgia factor. Not everyone is a diehard swiftie, but many many people know and love songs such as YBWM, Love Story, IKYWT, etc etc. If this tour were simply the Midnights tour, I can almost guarantee it would not be the frenzy that the eras tour is.

Number three, the spectacle that she has created by making the show more than 3 hours long. Lots of people just want to know wtf she's doing up there for 3 hours I would think LMFAOO. So many articles have come out raving about it, so really, I think her hard work and dedication and creativity has paid off, and people just want to go because...THEY WANT TO SEE THE SHOW!! Go figure.

Number four, the "going to as many shows as possible" mentality these nutjobs have...like sorry if you're going to see T H E M O V I E more than like, two times, and you've already been to the physical show 4+ times...seek help....SEEK IT NOW........

It's not that I don't think clout has ANYTHING to do with it, because yes, there are some wealthy people out there who buy the box seats and sit in their 3 friendship bracelets and crisp white sundresses in air conditioning politely grooving to the Fearless set, just to say that they went because they could, but no normal sane person is paying the resale ticket prices JUST TO SAY they went to the tour. Really the people who are snatching tickets from others are the girlies going to 11 shows and they know that, though they'll argue it's not their fault, but Ticketmaster's. The reality is that when you go and buy a resale ticket, it means someone else does not get that ticket. When you go and even buy a ticket directly from TM, that means someone else does not get that ticket. Continuing to do this 11 times over is just greedy ............cricket...............crazy we still have to have this conversation........I really think people only bring up clout chasing to deflect away from the fact that they themselves have sucked up so many tickets.

I mean, in total, I'll be seeing 5 eras tour shows. I'm not going to deny it or say that it's fine for me to do it because "I deserve it more" - I really don't deserve it more than anyone else lmfaoigjreojogi I just have the means to do so for the first time in my life. It sucks that some people can't go and I do feel like a fuck going to so many shows....not enough to stop me....isn't it sooo easy to just admit that rather than playing a victim and making up a scapegoat?!?! LMFAO!!!!

I know, not more ticket discourse...but I can't help myself I just cannot stand the delusions...stop going to the tour 20 times...like pleaseeeee....I guess going to the movie a million times is fine but like. Now. Girlies. Why would you? YOU DON'T EVEN GET DIFFERENT SURPRISE SONGS...!

I think this is the natural conclusion of how large the taylor swift brand has grown to now become *this* monetiseable for people/brands, even this patreon is part of that in a small way! The interest in taylor has grown to a scale of IPs like harry potter, star wars etc and with that, the monetisable factions to cater to the spectrum of people who fall under “Swifties” has grown too. The tour film doing so well is probably partly because it’s the most accessible form of her brand outside her albums, and especially for something that’s been as exclusive as proper eras tour tickets

I will be seated for the concert movie twice at most to see it with different people, and because I wasn’t able to get tickets to the US tour and won’t be seeing the tour until May when I attend the Lisbon show. But going to like 20 shows and then seeing the movie a million times…. Why. I think a lot of these girlies are just very young with disposable income and it’s hard for my almost 30 year old self to relate 😅 it’s giving being in high school and going to see twilight: eclipse 8 times in the theatre just to say I did lmao

Abigail Compton

A lot of good points here! I was talking to my friend about the community element of the concert going which people I think are really craving. I really hope I can get to 2 shows, my first show the view was really bad and I was with disgruntled elder Swifties lol. I honestly for a long time felt guilty about getting to go and complaining about the experience.

I think the movie has been so successful because it's a (relatively) cheap way for people who have never been to the tour to see a high quality version of it. Plus, with the bracelet trading and the encouraged singing, it's also offering an experience that sort of emulates what you would do and feel at a show. And, it's also a way for people who have been to one or more shows to relive their concert experience with other swifties.

Lala

Wait. Do we not thing that she’s going to have 3 versions of the film with different secret songs to encourage this behavior?

Tbh, I disagree with the idea that there’s ppl more deserving of an eras ticket than anyone else. Going to eras for a bigger Swiftie who knows the discography inside and out and is emotionally attached to it obviously means more than a casual fan who bops to Blank Space, but no one is actually deserving of going when you think ab it….. people get so hurt over fans or lesser stans getting tickets, when it’s like GIRL, this is a STADIUM TOUR with 50+ US shows. The reason you didn’t get a ticket isn’t because the girl who just had Anti Hero in her top 20 on Spotify wrapped last year and hasn’t heard of evermore is there- it was literally the stars did not align for you. I get it’s shitty you didn’t get to go but it’s not anyone’s fault, some people can’t remember that lmao

I'll never stop being bitter that I fought in the trenches since I was 14 being a Taylor fan when it wasn't cool, and now going to see her show is damn near IMPOSSIBLE because everyone and their great aunt bertha and her dog are on the "taylor is cool again" bandwagon

This!!! Like as a teacher of 8th graders, the re-record project, midnights, eras tour has all been a perfect storm to legitimately grow her fan base. My first year was 2020-2021 absolutely no swifties to be found. Next year a few. Last year a good group. This year there’s so many I’m the sponsor of a club. Like she has 100 mil monthly Spotify listeners, she’s truly a huge star and I simply can’t gatekeep her anymore. I’m going to four shows and also feel like a fuck. Like you it’s my first time seeing her on tour with my own money!! I think the growth of her fan base is so so so wildly interesting as she has something for everyone. I just can’t believe after the Ticketmaster debacle, there’s still poor planning on events that have to do with her. Like if you put her name or face on an event, be prepared for a demand. I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve gone to a TS themed bingo, laser show, trivia and it was a literal shit show. The country hall of fame museum had an exhibit the week of her Nash show and we waited in line for four hours to look at a small display that didn’t take longer than two minutes bc they oversold tickets and it wasn’t properly advertised.

I have to say I'm number 4. I went once and I wanted to go to the movie with my sister and bf, but he didn't want to go to the theater we are going to because of his anxiety, but the same day, just later tickets went on sale at our regular theater we go to, so I'm going he'll be okay. But I'm only planning on it twice. But if my work manages to get it in Imax... I might sit on the steps for free.

I have no tickets to any shows and have given up hope of getting any, so the multiple-concert clout-chasing narrative doesn't apply to me (other than as a victim, I suppose). I was hoping for a theatrical film release so I could experience the tour on a large screen in a somewhat communal format, and our capitalist queen delivered, and on the week of my milestone birthday no less! So, I am making an event of it. I have bought two outfits, I'm ordering some bracelets, and I have tickets for two shows so far: 4pm opening day (to see it on the first day while avoiding the crazy evening crowd) and again on Thursday night after my birthday as a girls' night out celebration (but on a weeknight, again to avoid the crazies). I'm contemplating going again on the 26th in honor of the imminent 1989TV drop. Why would we go multiple times? For the same reason we've all watched the Rep Tour doc a thousand times, or the WANEGBT rock version from 1989 tour for that matter. It's an amazing show, worth seeing more than once, and worth celebrating however we can manage.

Any hopes/predictions for the surprise song part of the movie? Personally I’ve been ✨manifesting✨ some kind of “live from the eras tour” compilation album of all the surprise songs she’s played! The way she sings them is so special, I NEEED high quality versions. She could literally release acoustic versions of all her albums!!! It would be the easiest cash grab in the world and I wouldn’t even be mad!!!

Megan

not me escorting 3 different sets of friends and family to the eras tour movie 3 different times like a professional tour guide 😭

Emily Sanders

I totally agree that there's nothing wrong with going more than once, especially if it's to your city or somewhat near by one, but if you are going to ten show ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND MAYBE INTERNATIONAL then wtf is wrong with you? It's not the flex you think it is and it's quite embarrassing to see so many people bragging about it. It just makes you look bad🤷

Selli Diamonds

i think more than clout chasing its just the hype on social media that makes people who maybe usually wouldn't go to her shows want to go and check it out and be part of it. surely some want the clout, others just want to be included in the conversation or maybe don't want to miss out on something that must be spectacular considering the hype. i think to say someone is stealing tickets is a silly thing. no matter if it's a casual listener or someone going to their 20st show. of course them buying a ticket makes one less ticket for someone else but also there are 30k more tickets and everyone initially has the same chances of getting one

Dani

I went to one show and would have loved to go again (Ticketmaster had other plans) but idk…I feel like I’d be satisfied after seeing it twice. Maybe some people would call me a lesser swiftie for that but the concert experience is A LOT and im old

Erin Houghton

I will be seeing the movie once. I don’t care if people in my theater are standing and screaming, I will be seated in my recliner chair eating a large bucket of popcorn with snow caps mixed in and a large slushee as god intended us to attend the movies!! I will say once it’s on streaming I’ll probably watch it constantly lmao like the rep tour is my go-to when I want something on in the background and I’m sure I’ll treat eras on streaming the same

emma 🌷

there are people trying to scalp eras tour movie tickets now too which is so crazy to me 😭😭😭

Kalyn

I will see it once and buy the stupid special cup

Gianna

I’m going to the movies once for the spirit of things and that’s it. The rewatching will come once it hits steaming. As for the tour itself, i only went to one show at MetLife and I’ll go once more at one of the Miami shows next year. The end. That’s plenty for me.

Kylee

I personally find it odd that anyone really cares about all of the above. Music is a universal language and most everyone I know likes it. Taylor Swift has been a part of MAIN STREAM music for almost 20 years. There are going to be diehard and casual fans PERIOD. She’s not selling out stadium tours around the world if she didn’t have both. The clout chasing argument is dumb and childish. It’s what makes the person seeing 15 + shows even more hilariously hypocritical. Taylor Swift isn’t some ‘indie record that’s much cooler than…’ that no one knows about. SHES TAYLOR F*** SWIFT! I can guarantee you that most adults between the ages of 18 - 45 can name at least 2, even maybe 3 of her songs.

Emma Bovelet

PERIOD! I already felt like losing all my karma points because I’ll be going two times…
