iLaney90

Was not expecting to cry when I hit play on this, but the second you started getting choked up, it was over for me... SO THANKS FOR THAT! This was great, I'm looking forward to hearing you revisit it once TTPD is out 👀

Nikola

“Here we goooo” oh my god I wanna give you a hug

Erin S

Are there other songs you think are probably about Joe/that relationship but you just didn’t include them in this timeline? I would have had some others in here. Just curious what you might have left out and why.

EN

Is the playlist on spotify?

EN

Snow on the beach?

kinda_ares

Michaela Wagner

I had to pause and do work but i'm back now, at the end and i'm fucking CCRYINGGGGG

Michaela Wagner

also caring who the songs are about is caring about Taylor! Like if you sat down with ur bestie and thhey said "oh this guy rly hurt me he did this and that and this and that" would you not want to know who hurt them????

Ashley C

The horns in Sweet Nothing really do give funeral-esque send-off

dietmountaindewdrop

mental illness checking in. is turkey the wannabe z lister in paris? asking for a friend.

sara

girl how.

V

Delicious title. I will be well fed this morning

Linde Deckers

I don’t usually comment but holy shit… This episode was amazing Madeline. The thought and care you put into this timeline analysis was evident throughout and your emotion is clearly genuine and therefore very affective. I feel like my third eye just opened listening to this and I’ve gained an even more nuanced understanding of these songs I’ve been living with for so long now. Thank you for this delicious treat, my daily commute was rarely better spent!

Efi

Oh my God this was out of this world. Now I am going to listen to the list and it will for sure hit differently!

alanna b

This was sooooo enjoyable 10/10 the crying at the end was *chefs kiss* a beautiful conclusion to such a tragic tale.

Gracie Day

Madeline, you are a genius. Holy shit, I got emotional with you at the end and I’m still recovering!

TiffK83

This was so great and well thought out. Thank you I would be interested in where you think renegade and the Alcott fit in this timeline. Love you.😘😘

Roxanne Metivier

Thank you for reminding everyone that, in the early days, we were encouraged (*cough* trained) to look for clues, we spent so much time connecting the dots, guessing who the songs were about, and establishing connections between albums, it was a game and it was fun! These things do not take anything away from her skills as a songwriter, the lyrics, and her ability to craft songs that resonate with millions. I never cared about the present relationships, but I do very much care about the relationships "postmortem"! I just want to analyse the lyrics and dissect them.

Sacred_sunflower

Madeline fathoming dear reader is so important!! It really says so much and is the perfect bookend to midnights

Viviana Rodriguez

omggg this was amazing i would listen to a whole series of this dollhouse/dolls podcast where you speculate timelines using songs

Jordan

Omg when you started crying so did I 😭

V

Dani

third eye is open and also tearing up at sweet nothing

sara

well in that case he is

sara

well she did say "TO YOU i can admit" ..... and none of us is the you. like we werent supposed to know that. it was supposed to be something uttered to someone she felt safe with bcs of how vulnerable it is and that was literally her soulmate. this was not a press conference

Alexandria Roswick

I just love you so much for creating this and I’m like 98% confident that you’re 100% correct. I’m a believer. Im a Lizard truther. PLS continue with these theories and timelines. I’m begging!

Tyler

She’s been hinting at 2s a lot and I think it’s entirely possible this is entirely a Joe record, and then the 2 is because in the fall we will get a second new record, catching us up to everything else until now

Erika Hutchcraft

I thought sweet nothings was a song about Paul McCartney and his wife…

Katie

Ooooooh I love this theory

James M

oh i’m 20 minutes in and you cooked

Lisa

You choking up at the end literally made me so emotional

Katie Fritz

This was so thoughtful and brilliant and charming and touching 🕊️ Just a grown woman crying in her kitchen on a Wednesday afternoon right along with you 🫶🏻 It’s all very human and some of it is very sad 🤍 we were swimming in your thought experiment, playing in your dollhouse, and it seems like you really did their perceived relationship timeline some justice 🤍 I’ll be so curious how the TTPD tracks get woven in 😬 seems like the more roasty I’m-in-my-anger-part-of-the-grieving-process-plus-I’m-on-the-biggest-tour-the-world-has-ever-seen-and-I’ve-got-a-goddamn-job-to-do etc etc part of her experience. What clarity may come??? Maybe??? Thanks for sharing this post, it was such a treat to listen to! 💌🙏🏼

Tiffany T

I will never listen to sweet nothing the same way again 🥺

SwIfTeA

HERE WE GOOOOOO

Tspd7

the way you say something. and then go... WELL IDK IM SpeCulating. makes me laugh everytime

Melissa Banks

This was brilliant. I was crying at the end too. One thing, is The Lakes not about her and Joe? I hear it as her thinking about Joe's perspective. He wants that beautiful secluded life where she writes poetry and be in nature. But that's just not what she wants, she wanted to try but ultimately she just doesn't want it.

Fifi

This is the best thing I’ve ever listened to

Yasmin

One episode into my $10 membership. This is the best money I've ever spent 😍

Sarah

Exceptional

Maja Gunhold

this is highly intelligent dude. u made me understand daylight fr

Maja Gunhold

hoax and false god are linked. also the bridge from don't blame me to false god is crazyy.

Maja Gunhold

hoax is "our love isn't true but i still believe in it" ?!?!?!?!

Lana

I absolutely loved this episode! Thank you so much Madeline. The only note I would add is I would maybe put Labyrinth between Hits Different and Lavender Haze ooorrr maybe before Sweet Nothing? Also I have a whole new appreciation for Sweet Nothing after your relationship perspective breakdown.

Ben Houtz

You made me fall back in love with Sweet Nothing….. I had written it off after it was higher on my midnights ranking due to the heirloom turkey but man it is SO GOOD. Loved your take on it

Lana

I read this like the OOTW lyric

Lana

That and the organ in the beginning

Sarah

You losing it at the end is simultaneously so cute and sweet and sad

Sarah

How do I find the list on Spotify? Please help, I am old apparently

Efi

I am looking the songs one by one 😂I am definitely older than you!

Jessa Jayne

1. This is my favorite view of you! I love how emotionally invested you got 2. When I heard the name of the new album the fists thing I thought of was Dear Reader

Raphaëlle

Honestly, I’ve been subscribed to TLR since day 1 and I’d sooner cancel my Netflix subscription than I would TLR or the EOAS Patreon. The content is just THAT good folks.

Raphaëlle

Also… I cried alongside you and that’s no small feat. Bravaaaaa for all you work lizard.

Diana

Bravo 👏 I agree with your timeline. I’ll add that in my dollhouse, I think things really fell apart at the Grammys. I really feel like Taylor was ready for Joe to attend the show with her as it was a big night for both of them (him co-writing songs on folklore and her third album of the year nom) and as usual he wanted to hide in the shadows. In my head, it was her realizing things were never going to change and wondering where to go from there.

Swiftologist

YEEESSSS I'm literally obsessed with it at the moment dajogiajero idk it's just really really clicked for me

Swiftologist

Oh I cannot WAIT to weave in TPD to this timeline that is going to be SO INTERESTING to do

Swiftologist

I do think The Lakes is about her relationship with Joe - but idk if my personal attachment to it clouded my judgment when I was making the playlist. I guess I consider it being more about her, but really it's about what she thought she wanted during her time with him, so it's really about the relationship itself.

Betty O

Oh wow I loved this one Madeline! I think Joe and Jake Gyllenhall (SP?) have similar situations- snobs from wealthy families that expect the guy to be the king - NOT second fiddle to our queen. I have no doubt that they both loved Taylor. With Jake she was just too young and with Joe just too famous and driven. So sad for her! Hope Travis can be the rock that isn't intimidated? Time will tell ya'll!

treesap

Love this!!! Liyerally never heard of substack but now im a TLR subscriber - thank you for feeding us all the excellent content that we craveeee

Lauren Batza

Madeline, you really have the purest heart, and it pours out in the incredible work you do. I sincerely believe you deserve the world! 🥲🥲🥲

Sierra Capes

i’m laughing and bawling my eyes out by the end bc i’m emotional af too and it’s like why are we like this LMAO

Pamela F

Cruel Summer = Ready for it Cornelia St = Delicate 🤯🤯🤯 MADELINE

Danielle_Tomi

Madeline!! Your perseverance in this episode as a true Stan 🥹 everyone who’s been hurt knows this feeling.

lyrium

Madeline this might be my favorite thing you guys have put out the whole year, I loved the kiki and the delusion but the sincere mourning and empathy you felt really got to me by the end. exes be exes but the love was there and you have to cherish that cause it's foundational. :( it's joever but it joehappened.

Jaisam

THIS is very good Madeline, brilliant 💃❣️🍺

Kat

Seated for the Dear Reader episode- loved this one! Ty Madeline!

Kat

This has just been speculation, and the most compelling reason is Taylor liking related a Twitter post after the breakup. Joe supposedly cowrote it tho so I think Madeline’s analysis is spot on! And doesn’t mean it wasn’t also inspired by Paul McCartney & his late wife.

Kat

Agree, this was a top episode for me

Kat

Woof 🥺

Kat

I wonder if she played Question…? bc it was a great memory of her & Jack in the studio (like she mentioned) and her and Jack had just had a great session for TTPD that week?

Kylee

I can’t help but feel like Midnights is a breakup album in its own way. I’ve heard it described as secret, I see it more as a passive aggressive breakup album. I don’t remember exactly when he talks about it, but Zack’s interpretation of Sweet Nothing had me hearing it from a whole new angle, and it wasn’t this beautiful lightheaded love song that everyone seems to interpret as. It was heartbreaking & kind of sad. You can argue that Lavender Haze has the same sentiment, but it was Bejeweled that really had me thinking, oh she’s definitely gearing up to be single, if she isn’t already. Its a similar experience of being thirty something & newly single, after committing years to someone that I didn’t end up marrying (She brings this up multiple times throughout the album. The idea that you should be married with kids at this age according to societal milestones & that subconscious insecurity you can’t shake *pun intended?🤓* even if you are the most famous person in the world). But Bejeweled is very much Taylor’s ‘How Stella Got her Groove Back,’ if you will. She’s finding that same twenty six year old energy & confidence, at a time in life when you do start to feel insecure about age, especially when you’re not hitting those so called ‘milestones.’ As a pop girlie, Taylor has to deal with an extra layer of ageist bullshit. But regardless, I love the song, and it was the initial clue for me that it was joever.

Jed

So glad I saw this comment. IMO Coney Island is very 'The Moment I Knew' coded (but for Joe this time)... However, she is hesitant to pull the trigger on ending the relationship (hence the bridge, wondering if maybe she's ever ended things too soon in past relationships, "were you standing/were you waiting"). She seems very afraid of this decision, and getting it wrong.

Jed

Also I cried thanks Lizard fml

Jed

I'd also add Willow to this dollhouse right after Gorgeous. Honestly it's just Cruel Summer witchy version to me. "Rough on the surface but you cut through like a knife" (Met Gala helloooo). "I could feel you sneaking in" (snuck in through the garden gate). The non-committal vibes are obvious in "I'm begging for you to take my hand, wreck my plans". Even "there was one prize I'd cheat to win" cheekily referring to the overlapping men of it all. Idk i'm spEcuLaTinggg

liz

this uhm made me cry really hard

Amy Versprille

I think the fact that we got Red after a passionate 3 month love relationship with Jake - I am going to die after she delivers what a breakup after a 6year think this is the end game person - she never lived with anyone before him, she literally experienced a lot of new experiences in that falling out of love time - she will be able to tap into the pain of losing the one in a whole new depth. I just ended a 15 year marriage and the heartbreak hits different when you believe in your heart that you finally got it right and found your forever and then have that fairy tale disappear in a puff of smoke. I just think this could be epic coming from the lyrical mind that resides in Taylor Swift. I am seated and feel deeply connected to what I hope we are in store for. At this time in my life - I think it may help me heal. Look at how Happy she is!?! It gives me hope that happiness is possible again

Emma Brown

Absolutely stunning and profound

Indi

Late to this party but I’m so touched by this episode. You’re amazing Madeline. So insightful!

Angela Gilden

Yes, always thought 🦃 was the z-lister 👋☺️

A Thorns

Mastermind is about her fans/the eras tour though… Loved the episode! I never thought I’d be literally crying at the idea of Joe Alwyn cooking dinner in his kitchen, but you got me. I cried like a little bitch. Thank you for making me feel something. I will never think of Sweet Nothing the same.

Bella

Relistening to this and cracking up at 10:55 when you’re speaking about Matty, ‘I’m thinking maybe she always wondered?’ - the COSOSOM of it all!!! You knew before you knew!!!!!

Abby H

Revisiting ttpd content lately... And just before the 11 min mark Madeline says "maybe she always wondered" HELLOOOOOO
