About to head off to Anthrocon.  This is a tough read, just to warn everyone.  Normally I'm tongue and cheek about that, but this is an earnest warning - if you need to be somewhere soon, hold off on reading this until you have some time to yourself.

This was a difficult novel in general for me to finish.  I plot all of my writing out far in advance, so I know where the story is headed as I write it, and knowing the journey I had in store for these characters, putting in the hours to write this book was a very difficult emotional journey for me.

I hope at the very least it makes you all feel something.

Can I get through any of your stories without crying!?

Cosmo

You're right that was very tough to read. I'm not going to write a long winded spill here of the whole tragedy this is so I'll keep it short. Poor Kadar never really had a chance and it does break my heart knowing his wish was bitter sweet, he knew his son lived but never got to see him or hold him again. And Amon never knew his father, a father that loved him! I do find some comfort knowing that he a least felt loved and knew what it meant to love in return before it was to late. Lastly to Ahsan. It breaks my heart knowing how much he loved someone to only have them taken away... I do hope this isn't the last we see of poor Ahsan I would like to know what happened these last 24 years and what will his future hold, he deserves not to be forgotten. I hope at the very least he's one day able to speak to Amon and let him know that he did have someone who loved him and died trying to see him again.

I knew this was going to end bad (because, you know, red lantern happens), but I didn't expect it to end so well.

Deablo Reyes

Wow what a sadly beautiful story this has been, thank you for writing it:)

Dr. Anarchy

Great ending! Now I need to go pick my new SSRI prescription for the depression it gave me, but great nonetheless!

Skie

Hmm, well since I haven't had time to start reading Dusk yet, I'm just going to wait until I get the actual book at EF. I just hope there's some catharsis in here, even if it's gut wrenching, otherwise I'll be pissed rather than emotional.

If I said that this chapter wasn't hard to read, I'd be liar for sure. If I said that it wasn't hard to accept the loss of such incredible characters, I'd be a liar as well. But if I said that this was the best ending to a book that I've ever had the pleasure of reading, well I'd be telling nothing but the truth. You're skills as a writer have come leaps and bounds, truly. And that's hard to grasp considering how good the whole Red Lantern universe was to begin with. The way you bring things full circle and develop your characters is exemplary. Reading Kadar's and Ashans's story has been a journey to say the least, and while one's journey ended (poetically I might add) at least we'll see anothers live on in your grand masterpiece of a world. Thank you for sharing this with us Rukis. I look forward to what you have in store for us next.

So glad I didnt reach this at lunch! Not a way I would want the story to end, but a great ending nonetheless. Ive learned not to expect happy endings in the Red Lantern universe, sort of a GoT thing I guess. Looking forward to see the stories combine as foreboded in the epilogue.

LuckyMagus

I do feel a lot after reading this! I am bad with words and can't really talk now due to the emotions. Just read it, folks...

Marcwolf

Damd you.. Damd... *Takes a shuddering sigh* I was so hoping for them to have a future together. Sorry.. Just really feeling the emoptions right now.

DemonicAlpha

Should of know. Tragedy strikes again with Rukis. Kadar...ashan...raja....anala aka shaan....lavayna suffered so much this hurts something fierce as much as when another tragedy broke in off the beaten path. Now I pass this emotion to the red lantern. Amon and Luther please have a happy ending it's the least they can do for the fight that happened before them. And rajne her daughter grrr wish she didn't live through this ordeal because soon as they said her name hair on the back of my neck stood up. *sigh* rip kadar, raja, shaan. Btw spoiler comment if you read this without reading the stories first not my fault. Until next time demonic alpha out!

Fauxluv101

This may have depressed my day, but i do not regret reading this a single bit. An amazing adventure and amazing characters from start to finish. I loved every word of it. Thank you Rukis. The Red Lantern universe continues to intrigue and astonish me.

ArcticSpirit

"Stand up straight, Kadar!". Holy shit. That line destroyed me. Haven't cried like that in some time.

ArcticSpirit

I hope to see Rajne brutally killed in your comic or in another novel. I'd pay a large sum to see her suffer. She's not even real and I hate her more than anyone on the planet now! I hope that Ahsan can reach out to Luther and Amon and tell his story. Then Luther can take him away from this life. There needs to be a happily ever after somewhere.

Right somewhere in all of this I can't cry anymore this messed me up for quite sometime and still does. Amon and Luther has to be the happily ever after hey just gotta Amon people before him suffered Luther story has suffering and shivah from off the beaten path lost someone dear to her and her story eventually links to Luther so therefore they gotta be the happy ending just like for once can I get happy tears! Lmao

Cuddly Canine

Well, this was heavily foreshadowed in part 9. "If the worst happened, those tools were our legacy. . . the only impact on the world we’d leave behind after all of our struggles this past year, and for many of us, our entire lives." Still, great and heavy stuff. I cried. One thing that is a bit confusing to me is the clans. Were the Immar really just the small handful of people there? No close relatives outside of that island who would rather take over the clan over an indentured worker? And the other clan on that island, weren't they in some sort of conflict? Wouldn't they rather take over? Anyway, great stuff. I hope you'll continue the comic then.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, you are a literary Goddess. This chapter made me feel things I thought no book would.

Malec Wolgon

Well i was sure this book had to have him not finding his son, and something had to get in the way of that. Red Lantern did not mention Amon knowing his father and i am sure we would have noticed him being free. Rukis it would be worth your time to try and put a few more tender scenes into your books as well. They only really got to be together for a short while. I would have loved to read how Kadar got over his insecurities and mounted him, because Ahsan finally put him at ease and Kadar realized he wasn't taking advantage of him. Ahsan was taking advantage of him, he was being protected via Kadar. I guess i will have to keep that emotional breakthrough in my head instead.
