When I lived in NYC I had an apt near Chinatown for a time and when I would go to the CVS for chips in the middle of the night there were tons of rats going after the trash bags that the restaurants would set out. Peter: happy to report that those giant cockroaches (aka palmetto bugs, aka water bugs) do not typically infest indoor dwellings and often show up during heavy rain or they come in through drains. I lived in an apartment where they’d come through the fucking tub drain (on the FIFTH floor) whenever it rained heavily. The landlord sent an exterminator many times and he confirmed there was no nest etc. it was just “water bugs” which, before then, I thought was landlord speak for an infesting cockroach.

Ugh every residential block in Bushwick/Bedstuy that I have ever lived on has been absolutely infested with rats. Currently I see a minimum of 5 scurry across the sidewalk or over the lids of trashcans on any given evening that I walk home from the train. I've had them run right past my head at shoulder height across railings before. More than once I have opened a trashcan lid to throw something away just a little too long after sunset and had a good dozen beady eyes stare back up at me. I've started kicking trashcans before I open them if it's after 5pm.

I was wondering this too. Yes, I believe the city or the state can still prosecute. In one of the earlier episodes, Peter mentioned that the fraudulent donations scheme started as a state investigation, before the FBI got involved. If the Feds drop the case, afaik there's no reason the state can't reopen their own investigation. Bonus point: the President can't pardon state crimes, so even if the Tangerine Dictator did pardon Adams properly instead of this weird quid-pro-quo, NY State could still prosecute. I'm not sure why they haven't done it yet. Possibly it's because the NY governor didn't want to remove Adams because she didn't like the guy who would replace him. But now that he's dropped out there is genuinely no chance that he'll remain mayor, so what have they got to lose?
