While we are waiting for the Blender 5 release date, I can already highlight my top new features.
Adaptive Subdivision
This feature was only Experimental in previous Blender versions; now it works right out of the box in Blender 5. Adaptive Subdivision allows us to subdivide the surface only where it's needed - based on the distance from the camera. Pretty well for displacement.
New Array Modifier
Before Blender 5.0, I’d usually use Geometry Nodes and Curves to place objects, bridges, fences, or similar stuff. But now all that’s becoming history, because the new Array Modifier can do exactly the same thing - only easier and faster.
Scatter on Surface
Scatter on Surface in Blender 5 is pretty simple to use, and I think it can easily handle about 95% of tasks. It’s available right out of the box and ready to go - that’s a big advantage for Blender.
Multiple Scattering in Sky Texture
Natural Sky and Light right in Blender without using HDRI.
ACES
Blender 5 brings built-in ACES support in color management. ACES - the industry-standard wide dynamic range color system - is now built into Blender 5.0, and that’s insane.
Pressets in Compositing
In Blender 5.0, I`ve got presets for composing. Built-in, and we can also make our own preset for color grading and other things.
