This movie deserves all the praise that it's getting! There was such an important emphasis on not letting shame rule your life and learning how to accept yourself. What a deep and wonderful message in such a bright and sparkly film.

The songs were so catchy. I've had Golden stuck in my head.

What a fun movie!!! I feel like animation and horror is where we get the best and most original movies right now! I think my favorite character was Zoey if only because she was from Burbank which is where I grew up and lived the first 2 decades of my life!

I'm so glad that you got to watch this movie! I've been so excited to see how much you would like it! Honestly, there are a lot of amazing reasons that it just dominating the zeitgeist XD Heck, Golden is ruling the Kpop charts right now. For a while, Idol was top, and it has since been dethroned by Golden, which is holding very strong! I love that you flagged Celine so early in the movie. I personally hold that she's responsible for about 90% of what went wrong in this movie. I don't believe that Rumi was born with marks... those are products of shame. However, Celine *knew* that Rumi was part demon from the moment she took her in, and... Celine really isn't the kind of person who could really hold back her revulsion for Rumi's nature. So, even if she wasn't born with them, the way that Celine treated her like she was something shameful and unnatural would have 100% filtered into how she treated Rumi. I genuinely believe that is the reason the marks grew and spread... and what Celine saw as helping motivate Rumi to push over the finish line with the Honmoon... wound up being what pushed her over the edge. The reason that Rumi's relationship with Jinu did so much good for her is that it took something that had been painful and shameful for her entire life, and made it... something that was alright to talk about. That is something that can make *all* of the difference for someone. And... as someone who has lived with someone who, to a very large degree, treated me as a failure and a mistake for not living up to their standards, I know first-hand just how caustic the way that Celine raised Rumi is. I'm lucky. Outside of that relationship, I had the amazing support of my extended family, and everything they raised me with... but it still did a lot of damage. So... yeah. I'm *very* uncomfortable with Celine... especially the way that during their last confrontation, Celine visibly couldn't bring herself to look directly at Rumi once she refused to hide her marks and go back to the lie... nah. She may have had good intentions, but we know what is paved with those. I definitely feel a strong connection with Zoey, myself. I'm actually of split heritage, myself, and while you wouldn't think that England and America would be that strong a divide, I can say from experience that it did still leave me in a bit of an awkward liminal space. It isn't as sharp a divide as Korean/American, but I was always... the Brit with my friends. Don't get me wrong, I love that part of me, but Zoey really makes me feel seen. I also believe the theory that she is autistic/ADHD. Not as a negative thing, but... as someone who is definitely ADHD and *probably* autistic as well, Zoey rings very true with that aspect of myself. "Too much and never enough" is a harsh judgment that... resonates very strongly for me. Hell, it's basically the judgment that has killed my marriage. But... ah well. Life goes on, and I still love myself. I'm now just going to focus on people who love me for who I am... *all* of me, too. And... if this essay isn't evidence enough of that, I don't know what is XD

Great reaction. So, the Honmoon at the end wasn't blue like in the beginning of the movie; it was actually a rainbow. Rumi said that she was going to build a new Honmoon. And this one doesn't need to become golden. Since it's not build on lies and shame, it's probably stronger than any Honmoon before.
